Gary was very pleasant to do business with. My Samsung dryer developed a leak after cleaning the filter. He recommended I try running it again in a few days to see if it was just residual water from opening the filter to save me some money. Unfortunately it wasn't and he came down a few days later to see what the issue was. He popped it open and discovered the source of the leak. This is one of those rare companies that deserves MORE than 5 stars! I called Gary Monday morning, left a message, and within a short time spoke to him about my dryer problem. He said that he would be at my house in a couple hours, and showed up a few minutes early. Looked at my dryer, diagnosed the problem, told me how much it would cost for the repair, and within 10 minutes was back out the door to pick up the part. I rarely write reviews but had to share my experience with Gary from Dependable Appliance. He was prompt, courteous, extremely knowledgeable, and professional. He knew immediately what was wrong with our microwave and went way above and beyond to fix it; when he learned that the replacement part was no longer available, he took the entire motor apart and completed the repair with other available parts he found for us. It would have been a lot of trouble to replace it as the one we have is a built-in and an unusual size, so the workaround repair was a godsend! And he charged us less than the estimate! Gary came over yesterday to fix my dryer. After lots of testing, he discovered that it was only one particular setting (the one I had tried) that wasn't working while all the other ones worked. He told me to save my money, because the dryer was still perfectly functional and not to bother fixing it. Which I 100% agree with! The fact that he didn't try and sell me an unnecessary service showed me how much integrity he has. In the process, he also discovered that the gas line to the dryer was loose, which in the long run was the most valuable thing ever! I happily paid Gary his $40 fee for his inspection and help - it was quite worth it. So glad I called him instead of someone else. My husband and I recently purchased a chest deep freezer on Craigslist...yes, sounds like a terrible idea. We've literally never had a problem with anything we've bought used, until this deep freezer. My 25-year-old Whirlpool dryer was turning but stopped heating up. I was half-giddy at the prospect of buying a new, spiffy, high-tech dryer to replace it, but also was aware that my spiffy, *young* high-tech LG *washer* was giving me some trouble (moldy seal), so I was slightly concerned about turning in my old-faithful dryer for a younger model. Gary helped convince me to keep old-faithful and get it repaired, saying that the saying "they don't make them like they used to" applies to washers and dryers for sure. I appreciate that Gary removed his shoes without my even needing to ask. He also thoughtfully got a cloth to protect my carpet from the dryer he needed to move out of the tray. Gary ran tests, determining that the dryer no-heat problem was a bad thermostat protector. He also checked my dryer vent to see if it seemed to need cleaning. Sadly, he also discovered a dead bird in my dryer vent, which he disposed of for me. He also explained that I could not arrange for mesh to be added on my roof to prevent birds from dying an untimely death, since the mesh would end up clogged with lint. Gary saved me hundreds of dollars by my getting my dryer repaired instead of replaced. Sure, more could go wrong with the dryer. But, I'll take my chances. read more

Update to my original review: Six days after I had Gary come out to fix my dryer, I needed another appliance repair. I had taken the door off my oven in order to clean something that spilled between two glass panels on the front of the oven door. I had the original owners manual, and it said you just lift the door off the hinges, so how hard could it be? Big mistake!! I got the door off ok and cleaned the glass, but spent most of a Sun. afternoon trying to get the door back on to no avail. I emailed Gary on a Sun. evening, and although it was Fathers Day he responded immediately. Gary was able to come out Mon. late afternoon and put my oven door back on for me. I can not stress enough how nice it is to have someone who is competent, dependable, honest and is extremely responsive. We were told that the repair on our newer French door Whirlpool 27 cu.ft. refrigerator would be 1,000 to repair. Based on this, we ordered a new refrigerator as we had no warranty left. The thermostat in my refrigerator ( whirlpool 2003 model) was apparently broken and would cause it to stop working intermittently for hours at a time. The first diagnosis of the problem performed by another company was incorrect & they only changed some electrical components ( relays and capacitors ), which, as was explained later by Gary, would not have helped with the actual problem in any way. I thought Gary's experience in the field came through clearly and he was able to immediately identify the root cause of the problem as a broken thermostat and fix it right away. He also patiently spent much time answering our other questions and most importantly, he was able to accommodate our service request on a Saturday afternoon within a couple of hours of my call.
