Visiting from out of town, and our waitress down the street at a restaurant told us we could come here until 9 PM. We left a restaurant at 7:55, got to the market at 8:01, and they closed the door in our face. Online it says the market is open till 9 PM on Saturday night, so we were hoping to get some over-the-counter medicines and waters for our family. Times should be updated. read more

Plan all I want, I always forget something. They have it all; even power steering fluid! We visited every day. They accept you as you are.

I tried coming in early one morning, as soon as they opened, so there wasn't anyone in there besides the employee and a vendor on the other side of the store. As soon as I walked in she asked if I had a mask, which I did not, so she preceded to inform me that she had one, I said no thank you, I'm ok, I just need to get coffee filters. She proceeded to tell me that she could not check me out if I wouldn't wear a mask, I asked why, she said she had no idea she had her vaccine and all, she is just doing what "they" say as she pointed to the sign on the door. I left the store, I wasn't trying to cause problems or stir anything up, but when no one can answer as to why we are still doing this in "some places" and not in "other places", it just doesn't make much sense to me to put a mask on just because someone says. I found out later that the mayor of Red River owns this grocery store & she forces her employees to wear a mask & be "mask police" to the customers if they want to shop in her businesses. I apologize to the cashier for asking you why, you are just doing what you are told. I don't care if you want to wear a mask or if you don't want to wear a mask just don't force people to do something when nothing about it makes sense. You do you and let me do me! This is a small little grocery store in the middle of a tourist town so it's exactly what I would expect. A little small and way overpriced LOL chicken is almost 6 dollars a pound! I found that out after we thought we would plan an inexpensive meal in our room instead of going out to eat but it ended up costing the same! If you are in a pinch, this is a decent place. But, if you time to do so, especially if you need to buy a bunch of groceries, make the drive to Family Dollar in Questa or Albertson's in Taos. Prices are way too high, even taking suppliers into consideration. $4.75 for a box of Capri Sun is outrageous. Don't count on any sales being held either. One of the few stores open until 9pm... Has most items you need including frozen foods, snacks, candy, alcohol, plates etc etc. Red River needs more tourists and more stores to be open later. read more

Pricey but the worst thing is when they change their hours on a whim. Be sure to call first-hand (if they'll answer) to make sure they are even open. Don't trust the online times. You'd probably make more money if you would stay open. Just saying. read more

The real problem with the store was the smell...My wife and daughter weren't even able to walk in to the store. Every time we went to the store there were only 2 check stands open with lots of people waiting to check out. If you're heading to red river go shopping in Taos before you arrive! read more

Having lived in the area for several months, now, I've gotten a chance to explore the many different options for grocery stores. Der Markt is still my last choice for groceries. The produce section is bad. The products are overpriced. They are almost always out of bread. It's little more than an oversized and extremely expensive convenience store. Locals barely shop there because the prices are ridiculously high, and the most business comes from tourists. Only shop here if you're desperate or can't get to Angel Fire, Questa, or Taos. read more

Very pricey ($6.48 for a box of Frosted Flakes), was out of a lot of types of bread, fruit selection was poor, and the bread we got (some kind of store brand) was strangely moist and almost chewy. Only use this place if you have no alternative. read more

As the only grocery in Red River its well stocked ( at least on our visits) and has good variety. Prices are high but consider where you're at and how far they have to truck in the groceries. Only thing I could not find was steak but they do have chicken and some pork. Good selection of beer and wines. read more

Open through the entire week. Depending on the day, shelves may be wiped out. The day we bought food for the week, the produce needed to be thrown out and half the meat had green spots on it. The next day we went in, the shelves were full and some fresh produce was in stock. A little more pricey than at home, but that's to be expected in a mountainous tourist town. read more

Great market, carries a little of everything and the people are friendly.

We were there last week, October 6, 2016, looking to buy 2 bottles of local wine. The wine had turned to vinegar - but we didn't find out until we were 700 miles away the following Saturday. Be careful of the wines they carry - we bought the wine because they advertise carrying local products, but you probably want to stick with a commercial wine that moves off the shelf quicker. Nice LITTLE grocery store. Nice variety of items. Carries about everything EXCEPT gluten free foods. Kinda pricey but it's the only thing available unless you want to drive over 10 miles. We've shopped here both times we've visited Red River. read more

Extremely overpriced on everything. Want cereal? Prepare to shell out at least $5 for the cheapest brand. Sure, it's got a little bit of everything, like another reviewer said, but everything is too expensive for the average person to afford. Plus the produce selection is anemic and overpriced at best. Personally, I think if you can drive the extra miles, go west to Questa. There's a Family Dollar there and another grocery store with lower prices. Example: in the Questa Family Dollar, a small can of deviled ham is $1.80. The very same can in Der Markt is over $3. I get that it's a small town and relatively isolated, but seriously, just because it's been the town's only grocery store since 1960 doesn't mean they can rip off everyone who shops there. read more

Yes, prices are high but the place is convenient and they have what you want when you want it - everything; meat, booze, mexican food, hot foods, snacks, they've got it all and just a short walk from all the hotels and cabins. I've been going to this store for 40 years and have never been disappointed. read more
