My car failed the NYS safety inspection here due to an issue with the brakes. I was told a brake…read moreline had leaked and soaked the rotors and pads, and that I would need to --at the minimum-- have one side on the rear changed completely (calipers, rotor, pads), and that they would only guarantee it if they did both sides. I was quoted ~$700 for that. Obviously not good news, but sometimes things break, so oh well! My dad does brakes, so I told them they could go ahead and fail it, and we'd take care of it then bring it back to pass the safety inspection. Days later when my dad got around to looking at it, there was no leak, everything was still in new condition, and the only issue was some air in the brake line, so we bled the brakes and took the car elsewhere for reinspection. It passed. I'm shocked at the dishonesty and lack of professional integrity, and will never come here again. $700 dollars is quite a lot to be willing to steal from someone.

My strategy for finding any new third party is to read the reviews and try and synthesize the truth, speak to a decision maker and assess and finally ask for some quotes for the parts and labor. I spoke to four shops and of course everyone needs to see the job before finally committing and that scope can obviously change. Sam freely and patiently gave me some quotes for both (others couldn't get past - we need to see it), the quotes and the final pricing were both very fair and competitive. Mo communicated freely during the fix and heres the kicker and why we'll trust these guys moving forward. They easily could have turned the minor job into a relatively major fix and they didn't, the problem and solution was less in every sense than what I assumed it would be including their cost - great job the both of you!

When they checked the dipstick before starting, Jordan said that my oil was much too clean to change at this time. Most places would have just changed me oil and not said a word. Matt checked my cabin air filter as long as I was there and it was super dirty so I had them change it since I was there. He also told me I probably had another 3,000 miles left on my current oil. Ayana was very helpful as well getting me checked out and she and Matt made sure I knew about the discounts available when I came back when I actually needed the work done. The honesty and professionalism I saw today is a reminder of why I keep coming back to Take 5 instead of the other "quick oil change" places in the area (of which there are plenty who will never compare!). Then they walk out with my cabin air filter and my air intake filter, keep in mind I just replaced my air intake like 3 months ago. I don't like ppl taking the air intake off since you have to push up against an electrical connector with ur socket to get the cover off. I brought this in for an inspection, why are you showing me my air intake filter?!?!? I take care of my shit, don't touch anything unless asked. I absolutely would not go here again. I would give this 1 star if the manager I worked with wasn't a cool dude. I'm assuming Valvoline corporate wants ppl to "upsell" ppl. Regardless I don't think what u diud was right. I make a decent amount of money per hour and by you wasting my time pulling my cabin air filter and my intake filter your preventing me from getting back to work.
