I initially found and made an appointment with Dr. Wong through ZocDoc. I like the convenience of doing things online. Annie is also great about communicating on the phone or email whichever is easiest for you. They are flexible with rescheduling and it was super easy to get my x-rays sent to them from my old office. If only their patient forms could be filled out online too! ;) I was kind of dreading my appointment even though I read plenty of positive reviews because well, it's the dentist and my first time seeing Dr. Wong. I just don't find it pleasant sitting there with my mouth open or biting down on awkward things. BUT I have to say I felt much better after my appointment which is definitely a good thing. I'm relieved that I feel comfortable and look forward to addressing some of the issues I've been putting off. His office is simple but has personality which I like. The one thing that I did notice was that they're not just cranking through patients, getting them in and out the door in a hurry. Dr. Wong took his time and didn't rush at all. It has been a while since I wrote my first review of Dr. Wong, so I wanted to update it. My husband and I have now been going regularly to Dr. Wong for our dental care for 3 years, and I can confidently say that he is hands-down the BEST dentist that either of us have ever had. What is really unique about Dr. Wong is his kindness and his compassion. He cares about his patients first and foremost, and that is reflected in everything he does. His bedside manner is impeccable - he goes out of his way to make you as comfortable as possible, explains every step of the procedure, and listens to feedback. Even for routine preventative cleanings, Dr. Wong does all of the cleaning himself, and doesn't delegate tasks to assistants. He doesn't try to fill his schedule with as many patients as possible in order to maximize revenue - instead, he downbooks his clinics slightly so that he can give each patient his individual attention without rushing, even if it means less revenue for him. He really respects his patients' time, and he is always punctual. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. Dr. Wong's kindness was apparent from the first time I met him. I went to him after a bad experience at another dentist in the Bay Area, who had recommended deep cleaning. When my insurance denied coverage because her prior authorization was missing information, she told me my only option was to pay out-of-pocket and refused to either write a letter to the insurance company with the missing information or give me my medical records without charging an exorbitant fee. When I saw Dr. Wong, he assured me that he would submit the required information for the prior authorization, and even if it didn't get approved, that he would do the procedure for me because I needed it, and he didn't want money to be a factor. Luckily, my insurance approved his prior authorization, but I have never forgotten Dr. Wong's words. He truly showed that he cares about his patients rather than making money off of them. I could keep writing about how amazing Dr. Wong is, but I believe that the number of 5-star reviews he has on Yelp speaks for itself. I highly recommend that anyone, even those who are not in San Mateo, go to see him. You will not find a better dentist anywhere. Found Dr. Wong a couple of years ago when my old dentist retired. Very glad I found him. Reassuring, confident, pleasant, competent professional. Most of all, genuine and caring. Nice vibe, nice music in the exam/treatment rooms. Most recently, I had a long time crown on my front tooth suddenly fall off before a vacation trip. Called the clinic dreading the answer that the next appointment would we be weeks away. I was extremely impressed with the way Alisha expertly assessed the situation, even looking at my record to confirm which tooth and its history, and advised that it would be unlikely that I would be able to get a new crown before my trip. She quickly found a same day slot and encouraged me to come in with my loose crown and have Dr. Wong determine what could be done. I was in there for less than 1hr, Dr. Wong cleaned and reseated the crown, advised caution and I was able to go on vacation sans Mike Tyson look. I fully expected to be asked to come back right after vacation to do the new crown (I do intend to do that), but Dr. Wong advised that I may very well get some "more mileage" out of the old crown and to come back if /when it failed again. Never any high pressure scare-mongering even though, in this case, it would have been completely appropriate to ask to get it done asap. The only negative...the parking underneath the clinic. Guaranteed scraped chassis every time. Finding street parking is a bit tricky. I will be sending my kid over next for her continued dental care. read more

I was being referred to Dr. Wong through a friend. I schedule for a visit intend to remove my upper right wisdom teeth. The teeth have been pushing my other teeth away to the left. I had dental braces when I was 11, I finished the procedure at 15. It was a longggg journey. I wish to keep the alignment of my teeth nice. Dr. Wong was professional and gentle, from explaining the procedure and make sure I understand everything before we started. The whole procedure was smooth, easy. and not painful at all.
