I cannot express how frustrated I am with the care I received from Dr. Abbott. Back in November, I visited her because I had a lesion on my lip. Without obtaining a proper skin culture or ordering blood work, she diagnosed it as a cold sore. What followed were eight months of frustration, recurring outbreaks, and treatments that simply did not work. I was prescribed a daily low dose of Valtrex, higher doses when symptoms began, and expensive Acyclovir cream. None of these treatments were effective. Since November, I experienced 7-8 recurrences, each lasting about a week before resolving. Few weeks ago, the condition became particularly severe, and I was so frustrated that I scheduled an appointment with my new PCP in Dallas, TX, requesting that every reasonable test be performed. My new PCP--who, incidentally, is an NP-BC rather than a physician--looked at the lesion for only a few seconds and commented that it did not appear to be a cold sore at all. Instead, it appeared to be a localized bacterial infection. The test results confirmed this assessment. My HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA tests were negative, and my HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG tests were non-reactive. A simple course of cephalexin 500 mg, taken four times daily for 10 days, resolved the problem. What concerns me most is Dr. Abbott's confidence in diagnosing and treating the condition without sufficient diagnostic evidence. As a result, I spent the past eight months dealing with recurring symptoms, ineffective treatment, unnecessary medication, and significant frustration. I've had about four visits including one in Buckhead. Midtown traffic is always hectic but I appreciate the validated parking in the deck next door. Coveted spots in front are also free. Small, comfortable lobby, friendly, polite front desk staff and free WiFi. My PA is nice enough and the visits are normally quick. My real concern is they don't have video visits and communication is lacking. When there is an issue (and there have been plenty), you call and speak to a customer service agent who re-routes your message to the office. Then someone who is not your provider will communicate via message portal which leads to unnecessary time and expense. Specifically, I was told to stop taking my prescription after I felt better. Then my symptoms resumed. There's one phone number for all locations, you can't call directly. I called, the agent called the office and a different person (not my provider) sent me a message via the phone portal. That person gave me a refill which I filled ($25) but I had questions so I was told to come in. $50 co-pay and time off work later, I was given a completely different prescription. Unfortunately, it was for 30 days ($10) instead of 90 days ($25) which required more trips to the pharmacy and added expense. I'd have saved $75 with Kaiser with a free follow up video visit with my dermatologist. Speaking directly to a provider = questions answered and the correct prescription the first time. Kaiser also had 90 day refills sent via free mail order. At Dermatology Affiliates they don't have video visits (they blame insurance) and you can't speak directly to your provider. It's like a game of telephone which results in multiple contacts, time off work and unnecessary expense. Also, they don't have a numbing agent for painful injections. They give you a small ice pack which doesn't do the job. In short, free parking and WiFi and decent service is fine. But if I had the time to find a dermatologist with free video visits, good communication and positive reviews, I'd happily switch. Dermatology Affiliates really makes me miss Kaiser. read more

I've had two appointments at Dermatology Affiliates' Midtown location. So far, so good. I'm happy with this practice after switching from Peachtree Dermatology Associates in Buckhead. Not that Peachtree Dermatology was bad; I had several good experiences with different providers there. I switched because: (1) I wanted a dermatologist closer to home and (2) one of Peachtree Dermatology's MDs left a bad taste in my mouth because of her arrogance and condescension. Parking is free at Dermatology Affiliates Midtown (at least, for now). I had to pay to park at Peachtree Dermatology. I didn't mind paying for parking all those years; it's just nice when there's free parking. Dermatology Affiliates is located on street level of the Cottonwood Westside apartment building, across the street from The Interlock and catty-corner from Westside Provisions District. Park in the building's garage - the entrance is right next to Dermatology Affiliates' storefront on 14th St NW. Let the front desk staff know so they can help you validate parking. Remember your license plate number. When Googling for a new dermatology practice to go to, it came down to Dermatology Affiliates Midtown and Atlanta Dermatology & Aesthetics in Atlantic Station. I chose Dermatology Affiliates because: (1) I liked that they had a team of physicians and PAs instead of what appeared to be just one physician at Atlanta Dermatology & Aesthetics, (2) Yelp reviews, and (3) Atlanta Dermatology & Aesthetics' website was down. Overall, I got a better feeling about Dermatology Affiliates. It was really easy for me to book my first appointment online with Katherine (Katie) Quinley, PA-C (Physician Assistant-Certified). I chose her because she graduated from the Wake Forest PA Program (my dad did his residency at Wake, my mom went there for undergrad, and I grew up in the area as a Wake fan -- yeah, no "real" reason). Katie also had plenty of appointments available. I've seen Katie for three issues: (1) acne, (2) a scar on my leg, and (3) atopic dermatitis, a.k.a. eczema. Katie prescribed various drugs and got me on various routines, which have helped all three issues. For acne, I continued the use of adapalene / Differin 0.1% gel, which Peachtree Dermatology started me on many years ago, and Katie added sulfacetamide sodium / Klaron 10% lotion to my daily routine. For the scar on my leg, I was prescribed hydroquinone 4% cream. For eczema, I was prescribed triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream. Several years ago, Peachtree Dermatology prescribed triamcinolone acetonide 0.1%, but it was the ointment version, not the cream. Katie recommended Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream, available at Sephora, to help moisturize my face. My acne and eczema are under control and resolved again. The scar, which I sustained from storming Georgia Tech's basketball court at McCamish Pavilion on January 30, 2024, will take much longer - I'm guessing years - to show significant visual improvement. In my last patient handout, it said: "Explained to patient that after improving the brown pigmentation, we can use the V-Beam to target any leftover redness which will also improve its appearance." Katie told me Vbeam is a laser treatment available at Dermatology Affiliates' Buckhead location. (Dermatology Affiliates has three locations: Midtown, Buckhead, East Cobb.) Per Vbeam's manufacturer, Candela: "The Vbeam pulsed dye laser (PDL) has been proven time and again for the successful treatment of a wide array of vascular, pigmented, and certain non-pigmented lesions, with a low incidence of side effects." https://candelamedical.com/patient/brands/vbeam/ The front desk staff at Dermatology Affiliates Midtown have been polite and efficient and Katie's medical assistants, Savannah Herring and Aaliyah Mantock, have been great as well. I was seen on time at both appointments, my prescriptions were sent promptly to my preferred pharmacy, and Katie and the rest of the staff answered all my questions. I've found Dermatology Affiliates' website patient portal to be helpful. My only gripe is it's not configured to allow me to send a message to anyone at the practice. For example, I use MyChart to message with other providers. It's easier and more convenient than calling and leaving/receiving voicemail. Since hydroquinone isn't covered under my insurance plan, I called the office to let them know (as Katie told me to do) and left a voicemail. Later, I received a text with a link to Klara, which is an online platform for providers to securely message with patients. Using Klara, I messaged with Aaliyah, who sent me a GoodRx coupon that reduced the price of my tube of hydroquinone from well over $100 to only $27.04. I appreciated that. So, I think I have to use Klara to message with this office instead of through Dermatology Affiliates' website patient portal (QualDerm Partners ModMed / Modernizing Medicine). I came to Dermatology Affiliates because of my history of melanoma and a friend's positive recommendation. Unfortunately, my experience was very different. In July, an abnormal freckle was excised on my thigh, but only internal stitches were used in a high-motion area and the steri-strips were not applied correctly. As a result, the incision wasn't fully closed from the start and began to open. This complication was completely avoidable had the closure been done properly. When I raised concerns after the steri-strips began to fall off early, I was told the wound looked "normal" and to apply Vaseline, which caused the remaining strips to fall off early as well. By 12 days post-surgery, the wound was visibly opening more, but at follow-up visits, I was told this was "completely normal" and there was nothing they could do, and that healing would take six weeks, and at one point, I was even blamed for "using lotion before surgery." When I later sent photos of the worsening wound, I was scolded and given contradictory responses about whether it was infected. I eventually sought care elsewhere and received a clear plan that has put me on the right track to healing. I share this review not to be harsh, but to inform others: my complication was not inevitable; it was the result of a botched closure and inadequate follow-up. Scheduling is easy using their online portal, but they are very busy and you'll likely be scheduling for a very long time out to get an appointment here. I saw Dr Abbot a few months back. She was nice and personable enough and understood the nature of what I came in for. I feel like Dr Abbott tried to get to me take an unnecessary test, because that's just their SOP, but my biggest complaint with the clinic is what happened afterward. Dr. Abbott told me to schedule a follow-up appointment for the test and I spent almost a month going back and forth on the phone trying to schedule the appointment. Apparently, I couldn't just book the appointment with their front desk. I had to tell the front desk I was booking a follow-up appointment and the front desk would then say a nurse/PA/whatever would call me back to schedule the appointment. Whoever's job it was to call would never call back and then tried to lie and say they tried to call me back 3 different times, when the number to the clinic never showed up on my phone. After over 3 weeks of this back-and-forth, someone did call me while I was in the middle of meeting at work and couldn't answer. When I returned the call, the front desk, again, said they couldn't connect me directly and to wait for whoever it was to call me back. At that point, I just found another dermatologist that wasn't such a pain in the butt to schedule an appointment with and who didn't try to hit up my insurance with unnecessary tests. read more

Absolutely horrible! Do not go here...and here is why! The receptionist are the RUDEST people you will encounter. While I was waiting, they talked trash about every single patient...in person and from phone calls. They referred to people as "morons" and "idiots". They even went so far as to say "...if they read...or may they just can't read." And started laughing! As I was waiting for my husband, one of them Emerges from behind their desk, comes to be and asks me what time my appointment is. I said I was waiting for my husband. Then she proceeds to speak to me, again in a very condescending tone that I need to leave because of Covid. Now, this I understand but there is NO signs or no verbal communication that no one can wait inside. Plus, the second person had come out to clean seats and said NOTHING to me earlier. Mind you, I was wearing a mask and nobody was in the office! Whoever owns this place needs to hire receptionist with care and respect because the two two who were there on July 8th around 1PM were absolutely unprofessional. I went to the 14th Street location on 12/12/2023 and I like it so much more than the Maple Drive office. I saw Kristina Goforth and she was excellent. She removed a mole and sent it for biopsy and messaged me the results in the portal one week later. I just really liked her manner and she took her time and listened to my concerns and had new ideas on treatment. I will book appointments with her exclusively from now on. Gentlemen at the front desk was very welcoming and efficient. SOO much better than the Maple Drive location person who was miserable. I have never been treated so rudely by a doctor, and I work in the healthcare industry. I called as a new patient to have a skin cancer check and to ask about breakouts. I was told that I could be seen for both by both the phone representative and the tech who took me back into the room. She even asked me about specific concerns I have about breakouts. Then the doctor comes in and does my skin check in about 3 minutes. As she is walking out the door I say "I have a few other questions for you" and she said "this is a skin cancer screening. If you have other questions you're going to have to schedule another appointment for another time." As I am sitting there with her right in front of me, she refused to answer any additional questions I had as a paying patient, and walked out the door. For me, I wasn't there for a "skin cancer check" I was there to have my dermatological concerns addressed by a physician. It should not matter how your practice classifies a visit in the computer, I am a human who has more than one need when I seek medical advice. Dr. Abbot is extremely rude and unprofessional and I absolutely will not be coming back for my additional questions. No wonder it was so easy to get an appointment with her (next day after I called.) Don't go here and take your business to a kind and helpful doctor who isn't just trying to scam you out of your money. read more

I am not the type of person to write reviews. But this review, I am confident, is an important one to write. I was diagnosed with melanoma in 2014 by a dermatologist not affiliated with Dr. Abbott. This melanoma diagnosis came after Dr. Abbott failed to correctly remove and diagnosis a mole. During my pregnancy, I noticed a mole that had changed. I made a new patient appointment with Dr. Abbott and saw her in person, in her office. Dr. Abbott removed the mole in question but did not send it off for a biopsy. Instead, she assured me it was a benign mole and did not need to be sent to the lab. A few more months passed, still pregnant, and the same mole returned, looking more odd and different than the first time I saw Dr. Abbott in the office. Again, for a second time, Dr. Abbott assured me the mole was benign and specifically told me she did not want to cause a scar by removing the mole because I was pregnant and she wanted to preserve my skin as to not cause a scar near my belly. At the time, I thought that was the oddest thing for a dermatologist to tell a patient but I trusted that she knew what she was doing considering she is a dermatologist. Just a month went by after that second visit and I delivered our first child. Two weeks after giving birth, my mother noticed an odd spot on my skin as she was standing several feet away from me and questioned me about the mole. I assured my mom that the mole was "OK" and that I had it checked twice, two separate office visits, by Dr. Abbott. My mom convinced me to get a second opinion. Two days later, I was at a new dermatologist, Dr. Humphrey, who immediately removed the mole, sent it off for biopsy and prayed with me in the office as she was honest in telling me that she did not like the way the mole looked and would contact me as soon as the biopsy returned. Biopsy returned Melanoma Stage 2A with a depth of 2 mm! 2.0 mm! I had to undergo surgery immediately and still, today, I must see a melanoma specialist at Emory every 3-6 months. I definitely would never recommend Dr. Abbott for dermatology services. I strongly urge anyone needing to see a provider for skin checks to find a provider that focuses on the practice of dermatology and not on fillers, botox, cosmetic "dermatology" as that is Dr. Abbott's focus. read more

Misdiagnosed + charged $187 for "surgery" (adjusted down to $58). At my first appointment I was given an upsetting diagnosis, which turned out to be incorrect. After 5 months of anguish (the med they gave me wasn't working), I went back and received the correct diagnosis, correct meds and the condition cleared immediately. HOWEVER, during the appointment the Dr. asked if she can pop a pimple for me (I had pointed to it), not knowing they consider this "surgery" and charge $187, I said sure. Later when I received the bill and after adjustments I owed $58. $58. to. pop. a. pimple. She should've warned me of the charge. No one would say yes to a $58 "surgery," which was actually just popping a pimple. Quite the business model. read more

I hate writing this because I love Dr. Abott and have been seeing her for over 10 years. Today is the last time I or anyone in my family will ever step foot in any Dermatology Affiliates office. The private equity firm that bought this office took out any humanity from the equation and has hired a team of rude robots that only care about the bottom line. The office staff is the worst I have ever experienced. The office manager obviously doesn't read the reviews because she said that I was the only one that complained about the staff. The guy in the front desk is absolutely worthless and has no clue as how to treat people. He asked me to put a mask on (which I have absolutely no problem doing so) with his mask sitting under his nose and half way down his mouth. If you are rudely going to ask people to wear a mask, make sure you are wearing your mask properly. The cherry on top of the cake was when I had to get upset because they wouldn't give me a copy of my prescription. I asked for a paper copy of my prescription, because I waited three years to have a prescription filled by their pharmacy which I never received. Looks like the secret is out - Dr. Forney is AWESOME! So awesome that I can't even get an appointment with her. Joke's on me, I guess... Fortunately, Dr. Taliaferro is fabulous. I think I might love her more than Dr. Forney (although for different reasons). If I need to hear bad news I'd probably rather Dr. Forney tell me. There's something about her that makes me trust everything she says. She's got an awesome bedside manner. Dr. Taliaferro would probably be good at stuff like that too, but she's turned into my go-to for cosmetic stuff. I'm sure Dr. Forney would be great at giving injections. She's so good at giving motherly advice that I think I might feel some sort of way while she's shooting me up with Botox. Dr. Taliaferro is younger and seems cooler. Their differences work well. I've been to their new Midtown office twice and I like it a lot. Parking is great, although it's literally a block from my house and I walk most times. I liked their fast service and Dr. Taliaferro listened to all my problems and had an assistant write down prescriptions so that she could pay better attention to my questions and concerns. I do wish that she was more friendly and that she smiled more because she seemed a bit stiff but I would probably come back and see her again. The staff is nice and helpful. I arrive for an appt I've had scheduled for a year for them to tell me I have an unpaid bill and they won't see me until its paid. I pulled up my bank account online and proved I paid it. They are demanding I send them proof, which I can't right now. Plus, They are refusing to see me because I have my 6 year old daughter with me and they say there's a 1 person limit. Im a single mom and my child has virtual school. No one ever told me about any such policy. Now they've had us sitting in the waiting room 15 min while they check with a manager. Had my first appointment and yearly body scan with Dr. Abbott who was referred to me by my primary care physician. Arrived her office, front desk staff was super kind and welcoming. I was seen within minutes of arrival. Her medical assistant welcomed into the room and listened to my concerns and took copious notes for the doctor. Dr. Abbott came in and was pleasant and smiling the minute I met her. She is kind, knowledgeable and really listens. She shows a real concern for her patients and has wonderful bedside manners. It was an amazing experience and I immediately passed her name on to two friends that were looking for an stellar dermatologist. Hands down, Dr. Abbott is phenomenal. Worst place in Atlanta - have to ware bandaids on my neck due to the keloids that formed - and they want to charge me again $$$$$

This firm is not good. I went there for some sort of a breakout on my arms. The dermatologist did nothing to properly diagnose what was wrong and she just guessed at a treatment by prescribing some medication which didn't work at all. They didn't take any samples or run any kind of test on what it was. While I was there I also inquired about having some moles removed from my face and the cost. She said "I will remove as many as I can for $200". I want the job done right - I didn't ask her to limit the quality of the service based on the price she gave me. If it is more to get it done right then just say that. They also treat you like it's a fast food drive through and the doctor is in and out as quickly as they can so they can get to the next patient. Plus they don't return calls or emails promptly. I do not recommend them to anyone. read more

I started off seeing Dr. Abbot at the old midtown location and then had to follow her to the Buckhead office when they closed it. I loved the midtown office bc it was convenient, but the Buckhead office was honestly not much further and it was equally as nice! Staff has always been very friendly and I am always so impressed with their professionalism and client care. I'm happy to visit their new West Midtown location. Conveniently located on west 14th st, underneath a residential development. It has a different feel than the other locations, but it fits in well with the west midtown establishments. Also, there's a coffee shop right next door which is very convenient! I grabbed a cold brew when I arrived with 10 minutes to spare. The facility itself is very nice and clean because it's new. I will never go back and I will never recommend them to anyone. I agree with Darryl T.'s review, the DR was in and out in less than three minutes. Did not offer any solutions beyond seeing other specialists. This would have been fine with me but being billed $193 for this "quality" of service made me feel indignant. I visited one of the specialists they recommended and the specialist was stupefied when I told him that Dermatology Affiliates said they couldn't do anything for me. The specialist said that DA most certainly could have performed the same procedure: expressing a cyst and injecting it with steroid. I regret ever visiting Dermatology Affiliates. read more

I had an awful experience with Dr. Reid. I believe her first name is Kristen or Kirsten. I initially went in because my Doctor had recommended that I see a dermatologist for a lump on my head that has caused hair loss and a bald spot. She did the absolute bare minimum, handled me in an extremely rude way, and without running any proper tests told me that I have alopecia and that I'd need to get injections on the spot which of course was extremely unsettling. She was very dismissive on her way out. The male assistant was very kind and apologized on her behalf when she left. I definitely will not be coming back or referring anybody here. read more

She realized a had a fear of needles and managed to make me comfortable. She did not attempt to milk my problem with extended visits (I have experienced that in the past) or expensive medications. I'm impressed. I've visited this facility for both their traditional medical dermatology, as well as their more, well, aesthetic services (facials). Dr. Abbott has been a great doctor to work with, and has been willing to work with my requests about medications, particularly in finding generic versions to help keep costs down. When something isn't working, she does not hesitate to mix the treatment plan up in order to find the solution to your skin care woes. Karen took care of my extraction heavy facial treatment, and did a fantastic job. The best part is, she had notes from Dr. Abbott as to what exactly I needed to compliment the other things I was trying. Karen recommended an item from their in-house product line, a sulphur and clay mask, and since it was only $14, I decided to give it a try and was very pleased. I wouldn't hesitate in trying the other products from their line. The facility here in Midtown is beautiful. 5 Star Service with a 5 Star Doctor. Dr. Rutledge Forney is a rockstar. We started using this practice for our dermatology needs about 2 years ago. Dr. Forney is a dermatologist in demand so if you would prefer to see her you better book now. We live in midtown and the list and schedule was long to get into see her so we booked our initial "New Patient" appointment to see her in her Alpharetta office so we could get in sooner. Once we were established as patients in their north office it was much easier to get into see her in the midtown location. The entire staff, medical assistants and Dr. Forney are truly rockstars. They understand the fundamentals of great customer service, communication and beside manners. I would highly recommend seeing their practice if you need a dermatologist. They are AMAZING! read more

I got the scathing emails detailing I needed to be there early and fill out the forms which I did. Got to the office early the day of my appointment. Got taken into a room and left there for almost an hour and a half in a gown with no aircondition in the room. Half way thru the wait I had to open the door to the room as it became unbearable to continue to sit with no air. The assistants guide tomge doctor into the rooms but I think the my missed mine as they did it again before pulling her from that room to come consult with me. My consultation was less than 20 mins and Dr Abbott was really nice but they completely disregarded my time and based on all the reviews online, this is something that is normal there. I definitely won't be back. Gave 2 stars because the doctor was pleasant. read more

I rarely leave reviews on Yelp but I feel compelled to warn others away from this practice. As a new patient I scheduled a skin screening. They confirmed by text message and I accidentally hit wrong response and selected reschedule instead of confirm. I immediately called them to explain the error and confirm that I did not want to reschedule. They confirmed my appointment. However, when I went to the appointment they said it had been rescheduled and that no one could see me. I had already waited weeks for three appointment and received zero empathy for their error. I will be finding a different practice for my skin need. read more
