Who do you call when you have a clogged sink? Who knew that plumbers are so specialized now that only certain specialties can unclog sinks and pipes. After calling several plumbers I was left dismayed until I called Des Moines Drain & Sewer. I could not get a specific time when they would arrive, but at least it would be the same day I called. The service call rate seemed comparable to others within the trade. Once they show up I will let you know the quality and overall workmanship. For now I am rating them on their meet and greet over the phone mannerism that made it easy with same day scheduling. Stay tuned for an update on the repair! The tech did a fantastic job. I called on a Saturday which was after hours. I got on the schedule but when the guy was here he wanted to go through our toilet, which my fiancé and I were ok with, until he discovered the other way they've used previously would work better. We didn't have any issues before besides a small mess to clean up. This time was way different, I had asked if laying towels down would help with less of a mess of sewage water on the stairs and by the drain to which he replied "it won't make a difference" then while he was leaving he broke two Of three brackets off the rail leaving the rail broken. I tried to call the same day it happened but didn't get an answer and still haven't got a call back even though I left a voicemail. We won't be using this company again. read more

Called on a Friday to set up an appointment for Monday and they answered right away and got me an appointment set up for Monday morning said they would call me when they were on their way Monday morning I called at 8:30 to see if they knew a time frame and they said a plumber would be out within the hour the plumber called about 9:30 and did the work within 10 minutes and we were having a little difficulty with our shower after he left so I called him and he was back at our house for no extra charge within 20 minutes. The plumber was super nice and explained exactly what he had to do and what the problem was. They also have a 30 day guarantee so if they fix something and something happens with it again within 30 days of their service they come out for free. All staff I spoke to were great and the price was AMAZING I have yet to find a price like theirs for good quality work. Highly recommend. read more

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This company took advantage of a 92 year old man on a fixed income; I have been living in the house since covid, helping him with the day to day.We called des moines drain and sewer out and they spent half a day on our clog. Within a couple weeks it clogged again, so we called them back. Paul (owner) came out and very quickly took care of whatever had been left over from the first job, no big deal, great. We were kind of surprised when we were charged for that, more than for the first job, and we also were surprised when we realized it was the owner himself who failed to give us the discount for paying in cash. All of this would've been left in the past, though, if it weren't for what happened next. That night, when I went into the bathroom for the first time since he'd left, I discovered a very steady leak from the shower and the know could no longer be rotated pulled. The shower is one of those very small stall showers, it had a handle that you had to pull toward yourself (standing on the shower) and then turn; the whole process was a little tight, but it worked perfectly. It had been installed in the 90s, but it was the guest bathroom for a man who had lived alone all that time. I believe what happened is that when Paul checked to make sure the issue wasn't with the plumbing vents, he tried turning the shower on from the side; not realizing that the handle needed to be pulled before turned, he forced it to the side. I get it; it's a super easy mistake to make. However, Paul and the woman who answers the phones usually at DSM Sewer were both disrespectful on the numerous call we made asking them to help fix this. I was trying to be nice and let them fix it; it seemed to me that would be more cost effective for them than us having another company come in and billing them for parts and labor. Paul came by one time, completely dismantled the shower handle, and told me he couldn't fix it but he would have someone call me who might be able to. I waited a week for that call before trying again. Every time I spoke with anyone at DSM Sewer about this I was told the shower probably leaked before, even after I said that wasn't the case; their tone was super disrespectful. Apparently they were betting on being able to take advantage of a man in his 90s, and they were right, we gave up and just paid for it ourselves. I hope I can give this place 0 stars. If it requires me to give a start to complete the review I just want anyone who reads this to know it was an obligate star, and I would never recommend anyone give these crooks any money; there are just other, better options out there that aren't robbing old men. read more

I was forced to use this company because I rent a duplex and my landlord has used this company in the past. The employee who showed up failed to mention how big of a mess he would make while trying to snake out the drains. He did not put down any tarps or towels and did not advise me to do so either. He then proceeded to make an enormous mess of my bathroom and the carpeting right outside the bathroom. The carpet was stained extremely badly and all of the stains have still not come out. The carpeting was brand new. I took a video of the mess to document it. When I next spoke to the owner of this company Paul and tried to tell him what had happened he was rude and refused to let me talk as he continually tried to talk over me instead of listening to me. He admitted that a tarp should have been placed down but that was it. No apologies. Just plain rude. One of the worst displays of "customer service" I have ever experienced. I will not let this company back into my house and my landlord is busy looking for somebody with a bit more professionalism to replace this clownish company. read more
