Desert Financial CONFIRMED the fraud--yet they REFUSED to reimburse us because of an absurd policy that requires business account holders to report fraud within 24 hours. This policy is ridiculous and unfair because most business owners do not check their statements daily. Fraud is often discovered weeks later, yet Desert Financial blames the victims instead of protecting them. We have filed complaints with the CFPB, NCUA, and Arizona Attorney General's Office, and we are prepared to take legal action if necessary. If you are a business owner, DO NOT BANK WITH DESERT FINANCIAL. Their fraud protection policies are weak, and they will NOT stand by you when fraud occurs.

You do not always have to deal with the people in branch, they are great at customer service over the phone and online.

I was told that the approval rate is vast and my chances of acceptance were high. I explained my situation on what i was looking at and why i was trying to buy what i needed. As i was giving more of my personal information the criteria became more and more strict. I was then told that what i was buying was out of the question for that loan type and i was in need of a personal loan with a much higher interest rate. i reluctantly opted for that option as it was my only choice at that point. Days later after giving all of my information and lots of time on the phone i was then denied. If i were to recommend any other place for a loa, it would be any other credit union but Desert Financial. Doesn't surprise that the reviews are as low as they are.

Unfortunately, my experience with Desert Financial above the branch level was completely different. Everyone I dealt with beyond the branch treated me in a dismissive and condescending way, as though I was not capable of making my own financial decisions. I was attempting to complete a documented business transaction, but Desert Financial created a narrative that I might be the victim of a romance scam and used that as the basis to interfere with the transaction. That explanation was inaccurate, insulting, and deeply frustrating. The transaction involved a real business, formal documentation, and available verification, but instead of handling it through a serious diligence process, Desert Financial treated me like a child. To be clear, this review is not a criticism of Sarai. She was excellent. If the rest of Desert Financial had handled the situation with the professionalism and respect she showed, I would have been happy to remain a customer. I'll skip to the end. After multiple attempts, each time receiving a different answer and incurring legal fees, it came down to bringing my daughter to the bank to cash in an IRA that was less than $1000.00. They gave us a check. For SSI Reasons, she has a cap on how much money she can have in the account, and it was already over the cap. I took her across the lobby to cash the IRA check, and they refused to cash it. On the good side, I was able to buy my wife her headstone. The final problem was my daughter's account that holds SSI money. I had to go to the SSI office to get a letter stating that I'm the party responsible. I returned the letter and tried to have the account changed so I could gain access. They told me that I had to wait until they heard from SSI. I called SSI, and they said that any existing money was between D.F. and me. I checked the account online; my name was on it. I went to the credit union, and they told me I still didn't have access. I had to beg her for her back rent money. Too: Desert Financial Credit Union, you win. Keep the money January 29th, I'm going back to SSI and having the deposit moved to another Credit Union I can trust. At least you won't get anymore. I'm selling my house and will cover expenses until she gets caught up. If Desert Financial says, "I'm making this up," they have a record of each visit and can publish it. However we recently purchased a new vehicle and they gave us a 30 day window for our interest rate on the loan while we worked with the dealership to finalize. Despite remaining within the 30 day window, when we called back to inquire about financing with them, they told us they closed our file but acknowledged we were still a couple of days within their timeframe. Because they would need to run our credit again, we are going with someone else. I'm unsure which location Mike McGuire works out of, but he was particularly helpful and courteous, despite Desert Financial dropping the ball.

I deposited my tax return check on February 27, and because my tax preparer is in Illinois while I am in Arizona, they decided to hold my funds, claiming it was fraudulent. I explained that I am originally from Illinois, and this is my tax return, but they refused to believe me. The representatives I spoke to were extremely rude, especially the gentleman, who was arrogant and condescending, insinuating that I was lying. To make matters worse, they are holding my money until March 13 with no clear explanation of why such a long delay is necessary. This has put me in a terrible financial situation--my rent and utilities are due, my car needs repairs, and my son's birthday just passed on February 25. I was counting on these funds to provide for my family, and now I am struggling because of Desert Financial's unnecessary hold. This feels like financial bullying. It's my money--I worked hard all year for this refund, and yet they are keeping it from me for no legitimate reason. The way they handled this situation, from the lack of understanding to the outright rudeness, has completely ruined my trust in this institution. I've had a terrible experience with Desert Financial Credit Union credit card issued by Elan. I…read moredidn't use the credit card much because I had other credit cards with better rewards so historically they would let me know that if I didn't use the card they would close it. Since I'd had the card for over 20 years I didn't want to give it up and once or twice a year I'd make a purchase to keep it active which is what they told me to do. I received an email on July 1st at about 8pm that said "You have a new notice for your card ending in xxxx. Account Closure Notice is now available. To view your notice, log in to your account." This is what I'd historically get notifying me to use the card, however, this time when I tried to log in it wouldn't let me. Instead it said "It looks like your account requires some extra attention. Give us a call at the number on the back of your card, and one of our customer service representatives will be happy to help." So I called them and they told my account was closed July 2nd, and a letter was send on June 30th saying my account was closed due to inactivity. So no notice or opportunity to use the card before they closed it, all timed perfectly so that I didn't get the opportunity to do something about it. Interestingly, the supervisor I spoke to on the phone said they'd be happy to take a new application to open a new account. I told them that if that's how they treat someone that had their card for over 20 years, I wanted nothing to do with them. I have a near perfect credit rating and work hard to maintain that, quite upset that they care so little for someone who had been a client for over 20 years that they do this, and do it this way.
