DO NOT TRUST DESERT FINANCIAL WITH YOUR BUSINESS ACCOUNTS! We were victims of check fraud, where someone stole and forged a check from our account. Desert Financial CONFIRMED the fraud--yet they REFUSED to reimburse us because of an absurd policy that requires business account holders to report fraud within 24 hours. This policy is ridiculous and unfair because most business owners do not check their statements daily. Fraud is often discovered weeks later, yet Desert Financial blames the victims instead of protecting them. We have filed complaints with the CFPB, NCUA, and Arizona Attorney General's Office, and we are prepared to take legal action if necessary. Credit unions are great! There are some great employees here but some appear as though they would rather not assist you. I am grateful they have a line of credit option available for just in case/emergency services. There are a lot of perks, such as wills and trusts services. You do not always have to deal with the people in branch, they are great at customer service over the phone and online. read more

I've been with Desert Schools for over three years now. I've been to several of their locations. This one is very nice and fairly convenient if you're over on the west side. It does have a drive-thru. I like that at this location they have a screen in each drive-thru lane allowing you to see the teller when they talk to you. The inside line and drive-thru can be a bit slow at times. The one negative about going inside is that for whatever reason the tellers have been trained to try to be more personable. They like to chat with you by asking how your day is going and such. It's okay to a point. Sometimes though, I feel they go a bit too far by asking if I have plans for the weekend. Honestly, this annoys me more than anything. Its a huge negative to me. First of all, it's unprofessional. Second, just deposit my money. Third, it's none of your freaking business!! After the death of my father I needed to open a trust account. I have been a member for more than 50 years and so Desert Financial was my first choice for opening the account. Horrible idea! It took 17 days, 5 visits to the branch and many hours to finally get this accomplished. It was a miserable experience. Many mistakes were made on their part, and there was no empathy for the grief that was being added to as a result of their incompetence. It felt like being betrayed by an old friend. Went in to pay off a loan via shared branching. Needed to have them fax confirmation of cash payment to my credit union to expedite a title release. I've now called five times and still not had the confirmation sent to the proper receiving party. When I called the fifth time, I reached a central hub and spoke with an extremely rude female who hung up on me when I requested to be transferred to someone at the specific branch I'd gone to earlier in the day. Long story short: I will NEVER do business with this institution again. I know financial institutions are notorious for bad customer service, and I've dealt with my fair share of banks and credit unions in the past; this one takes the cake for absolute worst customer service. read more

I have been with them 2 years and they are just not very helpful. First i referred someone and they did not honor the referral program for me or the person i referred. Also i am trying to build credit so my family can buy a home, i opened 1 credit card but my lender said you open 2, desert financial denied me a card, ok no problem. Now about a year later i inquired on refinancing my car i have been paying on for 2 years, not 1 late payment mind you, and they told me the car has too many miles for them to refinance. Let me just say this!!! This is a place that does loans right??? Exactly, I did just what I was instructed to do to qualify for a 4700.00 auto loan. Per their employees in the loan department I followed their instructions and got a loan for a car. 2 years later when the loan was almost paid off, they came and towed my car away as the rep I spoke to on the phone 2 months prior had it in for me. This bitch said I was never gonna drive my car again. I was ike what the hell are u talking about??? As i was asking her bto send a copy of my title to DMV so I could renew my tags???? We got into it as she would not tell me ehat she needed from me or why???? I begged but got nowhere with her. Well I guess she won because they took my car without an explanation. Other then it was an illegal loan???? WTF does that mean I did exactly as instructed by their loan department!!!! Out a car and 40000. For no good reason at all. Can u believe this??? The represenatives there suck. They rather argue with you and explain why they are right rather than listen to what you are saying. They think they know the answer to the question before you ask it. Each month i pay on my loan a minimum of $100, they decided to process my direct deposit check towards my loan, which i didnt authorize, and split it into 17 payments for that month and charge me interest on each payment!!! What the hell?!!? Then a $400 electronic transfer to my savings account aparently was lost according to them because of their system, and told me that i probley wont be refunded that money. Are you kidding me! What a joke. I closed out all my accounts that day, never have i ever had a bank steal from me, not only that but poor service from an employee there. I called to get business account number, simple task, after numerous attempts of having to hang up and call back, they finally gave me a number, the WRONG number on purpose after we exchanged words.... That's got to be illegal and she needs to be fired. Then she even has the nerve to freeze my account while I'm out of town and can't go into a branch when they're clearly in the wrong.. I suppose anyone can have a bad experience, but I've been a Desert Financial member for about 40 years now and, outside of being disappointed with the variety of products / services offered, I've always found them to be helpful, squared away, competitive and surprisingly cutting-edge. Their investing practices seem conservative. They don't always have the cheapest products. And, yes, they do push additional products from time to time, but not in an annoying way. I used desert school for a new truck I bought at the dealer ship. But then later found out the dealer ship went to another bank with out me knowing about. One of the bankers called me to inform me the application wasn't with desert school. The interest rate was 3.2% with the other bank. I went back to the deal ship asked them to switch it to desert schools. Once the paperwork was finalized my interest rate dropped to a 2.79. Thank you desert schools for doing your due diligence. read more

This Desert Schools location is great! Whenever I need to deposit a check, I can get in and out quickly. The staff members are very friendly and helpful. Most recently, I took my dog with me through their drive-thru, and the teller put a dog treat into the canister thing that holds the money. I thought that was a nice touch! ;) read more

Everyone I've encountered at this location has been great. The problem is Desert School's online banking! I started with desert schools about 3 plus years ago, I had trouble with the online banking at that time and was told they were making changes and working to make it better. Fast forward to almost 2016 and for some reason they still cannot figure it out! It's so frustrating that I might actually switch banks. Every single time I've NEEDED to sign on and make a transfer etc. it says online banking is temporarily unavailable... Every. Single.Time! It works about 40 percent of the time if that! Figure it out already Desert Schools, you're losing customers because you can't do what every other bank is doing successfully! read more

I had been getting approach by other banks to refinance because I have 700+ credit score and the equity on my house went up $90,000 since I bought on 2009 with the lowest rate offered back then 5.375. Instead of changing banks I decided to apply at Desert Schools at Arrowhead, where I've been banking for many years, paid off a couple of car loans and they also hold my current mortgage loan since 2009. I'm very disappointed on the service this time, I am trying to refinance to a 15 yr loan with a 3.5% rate. I agree to the fees and I've been providing all the documents they ask for and I'm still getting the run around. I was told we could Close by 07/27... and now the people that was helping me with the new loan are out on Vacation until 07/28. Now I'm having to answer the same questions to different people that just took over for the week. They are again for the twentieth time asking me about why my over time was different 3 years ago!, when it's pretty clear on all my pay stubs and W2s that my pay has not gone down at all... but they questioning about the same stuff like if they don't want to let me close the new loan any time soon. I hold the same job for 8 years, Don't have any past due account... and they have all my car loans, checking and savings accounts for over 9 years. ... why can they refinance my loan to a lower rate if I qualify? ???.... is it just because they loose money or their underwriter is a retarded person that can't figure out that the reason my total pay for the year doesn't equal to last year's is because it's only July! !!.. are they really going to make me wait til the end of the year just to see that I was right and my salary didn't go down. ...????!!!!*&€%÷×? read more

Going through the drive through to change a $100 bill and received the worst service ever. Although I've done this before, I was told they couldn't and wouldn't help me. Even though I have been a previous account holder and just needed a simple, quick exchange, they refused service. Now I know why I am no longer an account holder and I will never do business with them again and would advise prospective customers the same.
