I got a couple's massage, and they allow you to book any two massages and have them in a room together. So one of the issues was partially our own fault, because we realized we didn't feel comfortable speaking up and asking for changes during the massage with so many people in the room. However, we were asked when we came in if we had particular areas we wanted focused on. We both said which areas, but felt that those areas barely got any attention. My mid back, which I had asked for focus on, got the least out of any area of my body, and I left with my main sore area hurting as badly as before. I did get a hot stone add-on, and that may have been part of the problem. It felt like my massage was a rehearsed process rather than tailored to me and what I needed. Both of us also experienced the therapists using elbows on bony protrusions in our bodies. Elbows were jabbed into our spines, and for me also a ton of the elbow sliding down my back and landing very hard on the top of my pelvis on my lower back. It hurt pretty badly, and I had bruising there the next day. I was tensing up a lot and not breathing, but it wasn't noticed. My boyfriend had deep tissue, but also felt that it was more painful because of elbows on his bones than it was actually getting deep into muscle tissue. Also on the plus side though, both therapists were very nice and professional. It just felt more like there is a specific rehearsed way of doing it than intuitive or tailored to the individual.

Let me say that God puts people in your path for seasons in your life and Nickole is one of them. Within 5 minutes she asked if I was headache central and if I had pain in my ears and jaw. She told me it was my traps and jaw (tmj). After the 1st massage I was headache free for days after months. I called my doctor to ask for a referral to physical therapy and sure enough Nickole was right on the money! I've been going to her for months and will continue to.
