First visit. Food is generally flavorful. Chicken 65 biryani, veg samosas and naan were really good. Chicken Tikka Masala was typical, tasty but not the best ive had. The indo Chinese noodles were the least of our favorites as we get these elsewhere and these paled in comparison. They are saucier than we are used to, they use spaghetti noodles rather than angel hair which made them a bit thick. Sauce was tomatoey and chicken had a coating to it. Not bad just not what we are used to.. " Mom and pop " run so the service is as you would expect for that type restaurant. The interior is plain so not any ambiance really. Good spot for take out/to go, I'd say.

The food was really good. I went with my family and the food was delicious. The naan was so addicting! We received complimentary dessert too, was a warm rice pudding type dessert! Very tasty with nuts and other things.

Desi Kitchen is a little hidden gem in a shopping strip, but the staff deliver on quality and service. The restaurant may be small, but the dining and decor gives off a comfortable atmosphere. The staff of Desi Kitchen are kind, attentive and patient. The prices are decent and I can tell that the staff here love their work. There's a big TV inside that plays music videos of Indian musical artists or videos beautiful scenery of India, it's quite relaxing. Desi Kitchen was where I tried Indian cuisine for the first time. You can pick the spice level for your dish too. I loved their samosas, Tikka Masala and Gulab Jamun. I can tell that the chefs take great pride on their cooking. They only use fresh, real ingredients. Never frozen, instant or reheated. I'd recommend Desi Kitchen to everyone I know.

Paid $25 for Butter chicken and Garlic Naan. Portions were very small. Only had 4 little chicken chunks in the cup. Naan bread was soggy and seemed old. The rice was very good! Food didn't sit well after and ended up being sick.

Their butter chicken and cheesy garlic naan OMG so good!! 10/10! I definitely recommend this place!

Came here what a gem of a fine! The prices are astronomically low. The food is even better! I ordered Gobi Manchurian they came out double fried and dry! I love it this is how I normally want it and some places make them wet. At seven dollars per order, I ordered two and a side of biryani to make a whole dish you see in the photo. *** The photo consists of two orders of Gobi Manchurian and a side of biryani rice. This is one place that i keep returning to. Be it pandemic or not, the food is delicious and more importantly affordable. I have ordered food from this place numerous times and they have never disappointed. It is always hot, fresh and yummy. I have had indian chinese, appetizers, veg entrees or rice/biryani, love love love it. I will keep returning to this place. read more

I got out of the car and could smell the enticing flavors righr away. I was torn between the dosa or the buffet but I went for the buffet. The gentleman working was very polite and helpful. Everything was very clean and there was a great selection. It's a simple cafe style set up. Perfect for lunch or a casual dinner. I really enjoyed the daal....I loved l or it. the menu looks great too. So I'm looking forward to coming back. They don't do lamb dahnsak but nowhere here seems to. The salad was fresh and I saw the buffet was constantly monitored, kept clean and stocked. the mango lassi was really tasty and i finished off with a masala tea. The lunch buffet was $12.99 as it was saturday. On Wednesdays they have a special on dosas and I am told it's very busy then but I still intend to go and myself some. I will be back. read more

We came in for their lunch buffet and were not disappointed! With the lunch buffet, we got access to goat curry, chicken curry, Biryani (chicken and vegetarian), and so much more! We also got free chai, and dosa to go with the buffet. I'm very pleased with our service and the food. I would suggest music and possibly different tablecloths for an even better experience. We will definitely be coming back! read more

First time. Very nice saag and shrimp, unique jalapeno poppers, and some curd dishes (as in dairy curds) like curd rice, a savory rice yogurt pudding. The place used to be another restaurant but this is new management. Hightly recommend. Unpretentious decor. read more

This is definitely my new favorite Indian restaurant in Houston now. My go-to order is butter chicken, garlic naan, and samosas. Everything is delicious and the portions of the curries are pretty generous. Also, the curries are made spicier than some other Indian places so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to spice. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place! We have been ordering food to go at least once a week for several months now and have never been disappointed. The food is wonderful, flavorful and the portions are big! The menu is huge with many options for all dietary needs. Our favorites are the samosas, gobi manchurian, Chana masala and potato gobi curry! Just amazing! read more

We came here at 11AM today and ordered 2 plates of idlis. When I took the first bite of the idli, I found a large piece of clear plastic paper embedded in it. The idlis also tasted old and not freshly made. Very disappointing. And likely lacks good cleanliness standard. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover as the saying goes.. well this place is not fancy but the food and service is amazing, I've been several times and the food is always hot and fresh! My favorite is the chicken tikka masala and a side order of garlic nan, for an appetizer I'm hooked on the dosa, they have several to choose from. I'm not an expert on Indian cuisine but this place never disappoints my taste buds! Lol read more

I truly do not enjoy giving out poor reviews. I had high hopes for this place on the recommendation of a friend, so I ordered some delivery. Sadly, this was some of the worst tikka masala that I've ever had. Chicken was bone dry (like meat crumbling as you chew dry), the sauce was extremely heavy with salt and tasted closer to pizza sauce, and there were several pieces of chicken-bone floating throughout the sauce. Yes. Bones. The samosas were okay. Not terrible, but nothing stellar. A little mushy for my liking on the inside and the dough was a bit thick, so the outside was crispy, but the inside of the dough not cooked through. The green sauce tasted like lawn clippings and the dark sauce tasted like soy sauce mixed with balsamic vinegar. On top of that, they forgot to include the garlic naan I had ordered. (Who wants a tikka masala without naan??). All in all, very very poor experience. Hoping it was just an off night for this restaurant, but I don't see myself ordering from here again. read more

This restaurant has the best carryout for the Hyderabadi Dum Biryani (Vegetarian) that we have utilized very frequently. In terms of other dishes, the Kurma ranked very well, but the North Indian dishes were not unto par because there was a Southern bent to them making the dishes not very authentic. read more

I'm not quite sure how walking in for the lunch at 12:30pm qualifies as "dinner buffet". I wasn't impressed. The chicken was a mix of things that didn't really make sense. The saag panner didn't have any real flavor. I am so disappointed. read more

I am a vegetarian, I miss eating paneer biryani in India(mostly in Bangalore Meghna foods) after coming to the USA. Strangely I did not find many restaurants offering this dish. Furthermore, even if it's offered it was no match with the paneer biryani that I normally eat in India.Today I discovered that this item was in the menu of the Desi Kitchen.So I ordered a to go. I enjoyed eating every bite of it, this is definitely close enough with the paneer biryani I had. PS:- If you are a vegetarian, and like paneer. Then you are gonna enjoy eating it. read more

This place is amazing! We had the buffet and literally everything we ate (and we did try everything), was exceptionally flavorful, fresh, and had a great variety. The atmosphere was nice, the staff was attentive in clearing plates and providing water, and were very friendly. They provided two types of bread which were great, and a nice selection of desserts. There is even free chai! There are several Indian restaurants in Clear Lake, but this is at the top of our list! read more

I had the buffet. It wasn't that good I really hate to be like that. But, some of the selections where actually to hot. Meaning still cooking. And the water they give tasted like a crawfish hole water. But it's probably tap so that's answers that. Maybe I came on a bad day. Give them a chance. read more

Desi has the freshest and most flavorful saag I have tasted in town. Saag is a creamy spinach dish I go back to often when I am not trying new flavors. We had the chicken saag this time as opposed to my usual lamb saag which is richer and more robust in flavor. But we were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and flavorful Desi Kitchen's chicken saag came out. It was creamy but not greasy, flavorful but not salty or heavy, and slow cooked but not mushy or old. The spinach still has a nice green to it and chicken pieces are holding up nice and tender. It is definitely not the regular red and spicy curry dishes we all associated with Indian cuisine. Try it if you want something off the beaten path but in a delightful way. I plan to bring my 11 year-old tandoori chicken fan back to enjoy the ever crispy and delectable array of dosas Desi serves soon. I am going to test out their peanut allergy awareness and knowledge. Honestly, we have been to Desi numerous times and never been exposed to our allergen. But we don't take food allergy lightly ever. read more

Really great experience here on Friday night.I tried mutton, chicken and some vegetables option.Some garlic naan and rice.I really like the refined , serene atmosphere.I have been seeing an Indian place that, feels a bit more upscale and this satisfies that.I tried medium and, Indian- hot spice levels. We recently went there after reading the reviews here. For a South Indian restaurant, the basic sambar was just okay tasting and nothing to rave about. Their service is rather slow but the people are nice. As we go eat in other Indian restaurants in Houston, in comparison to other South Indian restaurants especially on the west side of Houston, the portions are much smaller for the price and the taste is not really authentic. You get a lot more items in restaurants elsewhere for the same price. Here you only get what you order with not many sides ( for example, dosa with cold aloo sabzi, idli with sambar but no chutney). We may or may not give it another try. read more

I'm literally Indian and our parents makes us eat Indian food only during any family vacay. However out of all the Indian food I've ever eaten, this was AMAZING. They literally cooked for us during closing and were super friendly and the service was immaculate. Meet the Business Owner: Raju M.

Raju is the owner and the manager of Desi Kitchen. Raj was tired of overpaying for under-whelming Indian food. He tasked himself to try many Indian restaurants across the country to learn what works and what doesn't from a culinary and economic perspective. He discovered that many restaurants cut corners in delivering good taste. He wanted to change that. We ordered lots of different dishes for 6 of us (bhendi masala, palak paneer, kadai paneer, Chana masala, garlic naan, rotis, Gobi manchurian, schezuan fried rice) and they were all delicious. Every subzi has a distinct home made taste, the tandoori rotis were the crunchy, thin and so well made! The garlic naan was so soft and garlicky! The Gobi Manchurian was very fresh and flavorful - and oh so plenty! And you MUST try the salted lassi - that's heaven! Whole heartedly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic, delicious, home made, non-oily Indian food. Pity we were in Houston for only 1 day, else we could eat here often. This is one of the best places to try Indian food in Houston. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall at the corner of Bayarea and Space Center. It's very close NASA Johnson Space Center. I went on Wednesday, they had Summed Dosa $3.99 deal going on. The place was packed with eager patrons. We didn't have to wait too long to get seated. They had a limited Dosa menu since it is the Dosa night but everyone should be able find what they want. The food came on time and to put it midly, the Dosas was fantastic. I had lunch buffet at this restaurant last week end. I had chicken curry, butter chicken with garlic nan and other vegetarian dishes - potato curry, palak paneer. I found that both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes were with medium spice and very tasty. I order masala mirchi bajji and it was a real treat as I did not find anything so good in any other Indian restaurants that I visit. Great service by the staff. I will definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good South Indian food. I will definitely visit them again on my next trip! read more

Rice&Spice - it's called Desi Kitchen now, under a new management. Being a south Indian, I love their rustic flavors which reminds me of home. I go to their buffet at least once a week, and was never disappointed. I especially love the south Indian appetizers in the buffet - like Idli, Dosa, Upma, Pakoda etc. The curries are always delicious and I especially love their veg curries. The new management is taking it seriously, and they are very friendly people. I wish them all success, and I'll keep going there. read more

We catered them for our office Christmas party, and our staff was trying the Indian food for the first time and they all absolutely loved it. Fantastic food! They serve many south Indian dishes as well as food typically found in Indian restaurants around here. My favorites are the masala dosa and the goat biryani in the evenings, and of course a mango lassi. They have a great buffet too! It's a no frills restaurant with a friendly staff.
