How do you know who to call, who to trust, who will fix it right. Ethan did it! He put me at ease, I told him the story about York the heater. Through a process of elimination the problem was determined to be a blown transformer. Ethan had a transformer in the van Wa La! I'm not sure if it was age or the power surge that occurred after the vacuum got a jammed motor and it smoked the outlet. The outlet for the heater is in the garage directly below the fried outlet. Hummmm I also discovered the power strip to the tv center got fried too, but it was an expensive one with the fuse built in so tv's saved! They came out as scheduled. Tech was good but office staff tried to OVERCHARGE. They were supposed to call me with a part # and never did. I called 2 x to get the part number and was given the runaround. Found the part # and it costs about $250-$275. They tried to charge over $850 for just the part let alone the labor to install it which would be extra. That is a RIDICULOUS markup on a part. GREEDY people looking to screw you for as much as possible. No wonder they never called back with the part #. They didn't want me to find out how much they were going to gauge me for. I hate it when I have to call a contractor for any job. I have a handyman that takes care of most of my repair issues for $35.00 an hour. I'm a senior on a fixed income and I'm paranoid about getting ripped off. Three weeks ago I called McBrides and they wanted $255 to replace the pilot light on the same heater that Ethan worked on. Ethan replaced the entire gas valve, a much, much, bigger job for $240. I called Ethan (the owner) at 1O:00 a.m. He was very straight forward on the phone. He arrived at 4:00 p.m. and had the part I needed with him. The others I talked to said they would have to order the part. He preformed the job in a professional manner and was very personable. I hope this is the last of my heater problems. I will call Design again if I'm unlucky. read more

Totally professional, reasonably priced, on time, great communication, etc., etc. Ethan first tried to fix our 35 year-old Rheem furnace, but it only worked temporarily and had coughed its last breath. Then, they applied our repair cost towards the purchase of a new Trane furnace (same specs), doubled the size of our return sheet metal for better air flow, replaced the thermostat which was previously not included in their quote, and finally completed everything in just one day. Based on a neighbor's referral, we called Design Air Heating and Air Conditioning to check out our central heating system which was not working. They were on-time, friendly and professional. They determined the need to replace the circuit board which they did quickly and at a reasonable rate. Even better, when I called to say (mistakenly) that our heater was putting out cold air, Ethan came out on Christmas Eve to take a look. Turns out I've been using my system incorrectly for years. Listened to the problem, scheduled an appointment immediately (same day), showed up quickly (within an hour!), fixed the problem within 15 min.(failed capacitor which he brought to the job) and checked the rest of the system to make sure we wouldn't have any more surprises.
