This was genuinely one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had. I called at 3:30 pm to ask if I could come in for a pedicure before they closed at 5. They told me to come at 4:30, so I did. When I arrived, the technician who was supposed to do my pedicure was still working on someone else. They had me wait until 5 pm. At 5, she finally brought me to a chair, removed only the topcoat of my existing pedicure, and then walked away. Instead of continuing my service, she called another client over and started a completely new full set on them. The only other technician in the salon was still in the middle of their own service, nowhere near finishing. I waited until 5:35 before I finally asked if it was going to be my turn soon. She told me they were waiting for the other technician to finish--no apology, no explanation. After wasting an hour of my time, I had to leave with my feet in a condition so bad I couldn't even wear open‑toe sandals. They ruined the nice French tip pedicure I had before I arrived. If they couldn't take me, they should have just said so instead of having a new client come in and be treated this way. My boyfriend has been a loyal client for over five years, but after this experience, they've lost both of us. If you're looking for a positive, professional experience, this should be the last place on your list. Attached below is how I left the salon.

I came here for the first time from a recommendation from a friend for my wedding nails. Henry gave me the most amazing nails and is a true artist. He reshaped my natural nails and recommended I do sculpted acrylic to give it an elegant and low profile. I showed him a reference pic and he made my nails look even better than the photo. The person who did my pedicure also did a great job manicuring my nail beds.

Henry is the best! I've gone to at least 6 different nail salons wanting nail art, which led to 4 hour nail appointments and nails I wasn't satisfied with. I came to Henry with ideas of what I wanted, and he quickly made recommendations from there! Henry works so quickly with such high quality and dedication to his art. He's so easy to talk to and bubbly - he makes it so easy to trust his recommendations. You know you are in great hands ^*^

This is nothing close to what I asked for. I could do my own nails better at home don't know why I paid over $115 for this job tbh.

Super friendly and nice people but for $200 for full set basic French tip mani and pedicure I'm not happy with my manicure at all I asked him to make the nails thin and not thick and this is what I got.

After my nail tech moved I was forced to find a new place and since my company moved I picked this place and OMG I had the best experience at this salon everyone was so very nice the place is SUPER CLEAN !!! I have to say, this place is all about ppl wanting something very specific. All the rave reviews are mainly about Henry's craftsmanship. Not necessarily his "bedside manner." If you come here, don't expect the four seasons treatment. You will likely have to wait even with an appointment. Come here chill and relaxed, not when you're pressed for time. I get the sense they're doing their best, but they are busy. Henry plays a very specific role. He doesn't do your manicure start to finish. Someone else will do the basics and he will do the design or sculpting if you want the powder option. Similar to a hair salon where someone else washes your hair, then the stylists comes and does the cut after. My first visit here, I observed his interactions with others the entire time I was there for several hours. He seemed to try his best to explain the process to ppl and understand what ppl wanted before he started working. What I noticed is that ppl come in and state what they wanted but then wanted to tell him how to go about executing it. Or came in asking for him specifically because they saw his work on IG but then weren't decided on what they wanted and expected him to just read their minds. He is an artists. If you're not looking for someone to either sculpt your nails with powder, or do a design, don't ask for him. A lady came in and asked for HIM, and then was upset because she wanted a basic manicure. That's not what he does. Don't look for Picasso and then get upset because he doesn't draw stick figures. Tell him what you want, and then give him the space to achieve the look for you. If you've seen his work, and come looking for that, trust that he knows how to do what you've seen him do. It's that simple. If you're looking to have your rump kissed, this isn't it. My experience was friendly and nice because I came in laid back and understand that nail salons are PACKED right now trying to make up for the lost time of a years worth of steady revenue. Manage your expectations and you'll be ok. Also, this place is by no means cheap. They're in studio city. You're not going to get bargain prices here. You're just not. You can definitely find a salon to do the basics for less. But frankly, I'm tired of searching and after not spending money on my own maintenance for a year, I was able to swallow the initial cost and get back in the game. I will say that I would feel far better if the prices were posted or printed for quick reference so you can do quick math and know what to expect. In that area, I did feel pricing is not transparent which is bothersome. Bring cash, because it's become the norm in nail salons to make not having cash a hassle and you will be highly encouraged to find a payment method other than by card. There is a fee to pay by card that varies based on the amount you're spending. There's an ATM in the salon that also charges a fee. They make it very clear they prefer cash or Venmo. I can see why other ppl feel the way they do, but again, I went with the flow and managed my expectations. If you want a consistently white glove experience, I don't think that's the culture here. It's nice enough, but he fully expects you to respect his effort and he won't hesitate to tell you that he works hard to be the best and give you his best. Based on his work, I can understand why he's not shy about that. While I was there, a woman walked in close to closing. She didn't know what she wanted and he tried his best to be patient with her. She finally gave a half hearted vague description of what she wanted and he began the job. She was questioning his method at every turn because she didn't understand the process. He explained it to her repeatedly. He tries his best, from what I can tell. But sometimes seeing is believing when you can't envision what someone is trying to explain and that's where the disconnect happens. In the end, she was THRILLED. She couldn't stop gushing about what a great job he did. She was genuinely blown away and apologized for giving him a hard time. Henry is not gonna kiss your a** but he's gonna deliver on the nails if you give him room to work. read more

Hands down the best mani/pedi I've ever gotten! Henry is amazing and all the other staff who work there are very talented as well! Plus everyone was super friendly and welcoming. The salon is very clean and stylish, with a great selection of polish and so many beautiful designs to choose from. The technicians really take their time to make sure each and every nail is flawless. My pedi was fabulous and I enjoyed the massage and scrub. For my mani, I wanted new full set acrylics with a very intricate design- I showed it to Henry and he and another technician worked to make it happen even though I was a walk-in and it was a busy afternoon/evening for him. Henry is truly an ARTIST and I'm in love with my nails! He is also very sweet and personable, and really cares about providing excellent service and outstanding quality to customers. He invited me to contact him and come back into the salon for a touch up if needed. I also found their pricing to be very reasonable for the quality of work and intricacy of designs they offer. The best ! Henry is the best! Clean neat... great communicator .. experienced .. this is the place. Go. Also today I needed any appt so they kindly accommodated me with to Katie his wife/co-owner... She is amazing nail artist also! Wow what a talented team they are at designer nails! There really aren't that many true nail artists on the boulevard and they really are the real deal! they Are always going to seminars to learn the newest in the greatest and investing in really good products and having it all available to us so much to choose from you honestly can't decide what kind of design gel dip powder acrylic etc. whatever you need whatever your heart desires they can deliver! SLOPPY AND RUDE I have been coming here for a little over 8 months, every 2 -3 weeks. TODAY WAS MY LAST DAY!! And let me tell u this place isn't cheap. They need to get people who know what they are doing. My first time here V was the first to help me, she's nice but I didn't like how she did my nails. She leaves them crooked , uneven, doesn't paint evenly and whenever she does them nails chip quicker. When I go in I try not to get here but sometimes I deal with it. I think the positive reviews are all for Henry and Katie's work. They are the only ones who care how their work looks and speak and understand English. TODAY!!!!! V Was doing my Gel manicure, after filing I mentioned to her a split in my nail, and asked for her to put something on my nail to prevent it from breaking more. I suggested crazy glue because she obviously didn't suggest anything. Then I notice that wasn't working. I tell her and SHE RUDLEY TOLD ME "Next time don't have me do your nails let someone one else do them, because I do them perfect and u mess it up" WTF!!!!!! I didn't choose her, I got stuck with her. I couldn't believe it, I said what I had to say, I had her stop on my mani and I left . And lady doing my pedicure painted like a 6yr old, barely cleaned my cuticles, and lightly scrubbed my feet. She finished in 15 min. It's terrible. Even V doing my nails was talking shit about her to me. To bad I didn't get her nail The owners witnessed this and did nothing to fix it. I tell Henry that I can't believe the way I was treated especially after spending so much money here. I was still charged 39 dollars for my 6 yr old pedi and nails unfinished. I shouldn't have paid and just left. Already 8:00pm I can't go anywhere else. Bye everyone I will never be coming back. read more

WOW If you are looking for a committed, artistic, talented NAIL TECHNICIAN look no further. The owner of this salon, Henry is the most incredible nail artist I have ever seen and all of the other technicians are just as dedicated. They have an endless supply of colors, dipping powders, designs etc. I have lived in Los Angeles for 4 years, been to several salons that are over priced and can't do most designs you bring in. Henry is not only dedicated to making his customers happy but he enjoys learning new designs so if your into pushing the envelop this is YOUR place. All of their services are very affordable and they won't let you leave unless you are satisfied. I live in Pasadena and I refuse to go anywhere else, Designer Nails studio is THE place for a fantastic one of a kind manicure or pedicure. It is clean, well run and all of the employees are friendly. 10/10 cannot recommend this place enough!!!! read more

Absolutely in love with this place! It took me a year to finally come and now will be coming here and here only. Everyone is so sweet and welcoming. They are the true definition of hospitality. The place is spacious and clean, very accommodating and warm. Wendy was fantastic and took such good care of me. She gave the massage I needed for a year like a mothers love! Best nail salon in the Los Angeles area by far! I'm from the Bay Area where they have awesome nail designs and glitters and go all out, I had given up on finding a place like that here in Studio City, but luckily I found Henry!! I originally had an appt at Nail Garden but with all the rain their electricity had gone out! I was in desperate need of a fill so I googled what was open and near by and this gem popped up! STAY FAR AWAY!!!!!!! I never give one star reviews, but I will say this is the most unprofessional and truly UNSANITARY salon I've ever been to. My girlfriend and I were hoping to pamper ourselves so we stopped by here before going out for the evening. The main male nail tech was so aggressive, very rude, and quite honestly SO BAD AT DOING NAILS. He even cut my cuticle so bad I bled for 20 minutes. You know what he did to solve the bleeding? He put a drop of nail glue in the cut!!!! I wish I was making this up. They never cleaned the tools. This place has a strange smell. The floors are dirty. Half of their equipment doesn't work. If you want to get INFECTIONS and DISEASES this is your place! After this horrific manicure I politely asked for discount, mind you, IM STILL BLEEDING. The man instantly starts yelling, screaming, and demanding I get out of his store. This place is a joke and it won't take long for it to be shut down. STAY. AWAY. read more

Cute Nail Salon! I am so happy that I found Designer Nails Studio on Yelp. I came in for the first time before my bikini fitness competition to get my nails done. Henry and Katie are so nice and welcoming. I got a mani/pedi and I felt so pampered! They have so many color options it was hard for me to decide what I wanted to do for my nails. There is a private parking lot shared with the other businesses and plenty of spaces. The salon is very clean and spacious. Other clients also seem to enjoy their experience as well. Make sure you check in on Yelp if it's your first time so you can get the 10 percent off discount they offer! Also, CASH ONLY FOR TIPS!!! What a great place! I was on my way back from Burbank airport heading home to Santa Monica when I decided on the spur of the moment to try and find a place to get a gel manicure since mine were in desperate need of getting redone. I did go on yelp to see what was available in my general location and I came upon Designer Nails. I got a fantastic gel mani (with awesome nail art design by the owner who is a great artist) and a luxurious mani/pedi with a scrub, mask, hot towel, callous removal, extended massage The Works!!! I wasn't rushed out of there and my nails look amazing. I highly recommend Designer Nails for the great service and super friendly people! I am sure I will drive back here from Santa Monica just to get my nails done here again! Plus I am excited to know that if I ever need custom nail art done they can do it! One of the only salons that would even do the nail art I wanted (rose quartz/Himalayan salt mani). Henry is super talented and pretty much knows how to do any nail art/trend out in the market right now. Staff is nice. It was expensive but you get what you pay for and I'm not super familiar with nail art prices. $5 per nail for this kind of design, which I learned is called "marble." I came here on Thursday and today is Sunday. I got a gel manicure and the top coat of my nails are already chipping and have a huge crack on my ring finger. For a gel mani and a regular pedi I paid $75 bucks- so not worth it for them to only last 4 days!! Edit: I forgot to mention that they charged me $1 for water and $1 for using a credit card. Just as an FYI- it is illegal in the state of California to charge a credit card fee- California Civil Code Section 1748.1(a) prohibits retailers from imposing a surcharge on customers who pay with a credit card, but allows them to offer discounts for cash or check. read more

I had such a positive experience at designer nails studio! I am extremely picky and manicures are always so stressful because I have to correct the technician on the shape constantly. Nobody likes to do that so it was such a relaxing experience to just sit back and not worry. I got my manicure from Henry and he is not only extremely detail oriented and talented but he is also so kind and great to talk with. Wendy did my pedicure and she was meticulous and gave a great foot and calf massage. I will absolutely be coming back and sending all my friends here! Also, if anyone has a negative review on here just trust me when I say, they are just a negative Nancy who likes spending their time leaving mean reviews on small businesses pages during a pandemic simple because they actually just hate their life. Unfortunately I didn't read the other reviews prior to going there. Terrible customer service. All I asked was to have the same manicurist to do my mani&Pedi and they were so rude saying that's not possible, they had other appts.It wasn't true and so they only allowed a Pedi. I should've walked out when they said the customer can't have what they want. Then they over charged for a pedicure. Will I NEVER go there again. read more

My wife introduced me to this spot she's really picky when it comes to her nails, and she absolutely loves this place she dragged me along to get a pedicure. I was reluctant because I'm not into sitting and waiting for hours while I get a quick pedicure. Thankfully and to my surprise they off many different pedicure service I record the luxury pedicure for anyone tagging along while there girl gets her nails done. My feet never have felt better Katie and Henry are amazing. I have been back regularly and many of there staff has taken care of me and all are great. Girls, if you want your nails as nice as my wife's defiantly go here! This place is very nice! They were able to book an appointment for me day-of and I did not have to wait upon my arrival. They do put a bit of pressure on you to choose gel polish vs regular, but it is their specialty (I personally prefer plain colors with regular polish). Its been about two weeks since my appointment and my nails are still intact and look nice. I will be returning. read more

My sister and I walked in on labor day and they graciously accepted us as their last services of the day. And lucky us! Henry and all the other ladies who helped us were lovely! My sister gets this ingrown nail in her toe that usually has her in so much pain but get artist removed it and I didn't hear my sister gasp in pain once.! That's huge yall! Also! This was my first time getting acrylic nails and it was a great experience! Henry helped me figure out exactly what I wanted and made me feel super comfortable. I got my nails done for my carnival themed engagement party, so I wanted something bright and colorful! It is a bit pricey but it is an art. I ended up getting glow in the dark pink nails. They turned out so beautifully. I'm getting so many compliments on them. I'll definitely be coming back again. read more

I found this place on Instagram @designernailsstudio when looking for a new nail tech in the LA area.. I've been coming here now for the past 6 months and I absolutely love it! The place is clean and well kept. Everyone who works here is timely and extremely friendly. Best salon I have ever been to, great prices and the design work by Henry is like nothing else, you can see all of his work up to date on Instagram at @designernailsstudio all of the staff are very friendly and remember you after coming in just a couple times, the salon is very nice and clean and play amazing music with nail art videos. I have been there several times. The price is always different. They don't post the prices. They never take you on time with an appointment and often call you and tell you they are running late. Henry's attitude is snippy if you don't do it his way and has no consideration for your time. I hope he gets rich off all those people that he is so talented for, because the regular person who just wants a "good job" on regular nails he does not want your business...... read more

The name Designer Nails Studio is very straight-forward and basic. However that is anything but what the salon is. We are always changing and learning and looking for new ways to improve and be the top. To do that, every single one of the salon's technicians put 200% effort into our services. Each one of the staff have experience in basic services like manicures, pedicures, gel, etc. We also have specialists in custom nail designs and all the latest trends in the nail industry.

Meet the Manager: Henry V.

Hi, and welcome to Designer Nails Studio. Opening a salon has always been a dream of mine since I started working with nails. As a child I loved to draw and paint. Art was my passion. So I brought my talents into nail art. I have worked as a self-employed for so long, moving from salon to salon, and after more than 15 years in the industry I am truly blessed to be able to open my own salon. I am grateful for every single one of my clients who have been supporting me since they first walked in the door. Now I cannot wait to see the future of my business and the new faces that enter my salon. I hope you all can experience this journey with me as this blog is updated often. I guarantee if you visit once, you will never have to look for a nail salon ever again.

I chose to give this salon a shot after finding out my usual place was booked. I think my photos will speak volumes. A brief description on Henry's up selling tactics may be helpful to the unaware customer: Henry and his staff appear to be extremely sweet however I spent $110 not including tip and I felt robbed. I was use to having a gel manicure and Henry sold me on the organic powder nails by explaining how damaging the gel manicure was over time do to the UV Light. I figured I would try it out, when Henry had finished my nails they lacked shine and luster, I was extremely disappointed. At that point Henry asked me what I didn't like about my nails and I had explained to him I felt my nail should be shiny, these are my natural nails not acrylic. Henry then recommended that I do the gel on top to achieve that look! Almost forgot....my cuticles were not even groomed and when I mentioned that I was told that I should also have a manicure on top of the $60 I was already being charged for my nails. The next morning my fingers were throbbing due to how the product was applied. Henry is not an artist...perhaps a con artist, my nails look awful and now I have to go to my usual salon to have the product removed and my nails redone. Moving on to my $50 half ass deluxe pedi which was suppose to come with a shoulder message however did not....please see photos....enough said. read more

SPEND YOUR $$ ELSEWHERE!!! I was so excited to finally find a nail design specialist nearby. I contacted them via Instagram, and booked my appointment for the next week. Henry is the owner and the main nail tech for designs. My first appintment went great. 180$ for that set, which I tipped an additional $45. Great service. Pic below. Second appointment... HORRIBLE horrible EXPERIENCE. I placed a 50$ deposit for a 12:30 appointment. They did not take me until 1:15.. was then unable to do my design. And instead of asking for one that I wanted instead, that he WAS able to do, he gave me a red French tip(part of my initial design)which took 10 minutes. He rushed through because another appointment was waiting. I'm 6 months pregnant, and he knew these were my nails for my maternity shoot. So after waiting 45 minutes for my PRE-BOOKED, DEPOSITED appointment, while being 6 months pregnant, and not giving me the nails I wanted. He charged me 180$!!!!!!! I was livid. Still gave him a 20% tip. And left. I went to Instagram and messaged him how unhappy and disappointed I was with my service, and he blocked me!!! He talks shit about other salons the whole time, and says how great he is. Well.. homeboy couldn't even do my nails the correct way. I have been going to Henry for a few months now and all I have gotten are compliments on my nails do to his great work. As a person who has had acrylic nails for 15 years I can say that Henry is the best. Recently my manicurist had left the state and I was left looking for a new person (which is terrifying when u go to the same person for years). I saw the yelp for designer nails and thought I should give this place a try. I called, spoke to Henry, and expressed my concerns because I am so picky about my long nails. He was so kind on the phone and totally understood what I was looking for in a new manicurist. On my first visit, I was able to explain EXACTLY what I wanted and WOW did Henry exceed my expectations. I have been a client of Henry Vo for over a year and half. I have always been the kind of person who has gotten her nails done for years. I have never stuck with one nail technichian until I met Henry. His work is outstanding! Believe me! I tried many nail technichians in the past. Henry's work lasts up to a month on my nails. Not to mention the time and care he takes to make sure my nails are perfect. He does pink and white unlike anyone I have ever seen before. And he also is the most creative nail artist when it comes to doing fancier designs. One time I was going on a trip to Napa Valley to go wine tasting... Henry drew a wine glass on one nail and grapes on the other! And it was beautiful! Another time I was taking a vacation to Stone Harbor, NJ so I wanted a beach theme for my nails. He's patient, he takes his time with you, he's a great guy, an honest guy and he's so creative! I have not had acrylics on my nails since the late 90's..I am an artist and my hands are always in some sort solution...they grow long but putting polish on is a waste...Henry and Wendy were kind and helpful in explaining my options...my pedicure was heavenly Wendy is gentle and thorough...Henry is adept with the color acrylic application and my nails are exquisite!!!...definitely a jewel of the neighborhood...will be a regular customer... Such a professional, extremely kind and polite not your typical nail salon where you feel like they talk about you as they do your nails. Henry is an amazing artist that can do wonders. He is always on schedule and if running late (he wants happy customers so will fix redo art work if needed) Henry will call at least 30 mins in advance of his next appointment to advise. Henry is the GOAT! First time client. I really wanted a couple "Keith Haring" designs and was skeptical because of the intricate details but was BLOWN AWAY by Henry's artistry and attention to detail. Excellent service!! I've been coming here for over a year now and I always leave with perfect nails that last! This set lasted 4 weeks with all stones still intact and looking amazing. I've been having Henry do my nails for 5+ years now and I can say that his nail quality is amazing because even after 3 weeks there's no lifting and the color is still shiny without chipping.
