Designer Paws Salon DOES NOT listen to their customers. If there is any miscommunication, they DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY, and they will LIE to support their narrative. During the consultation with their groomer, I made these statements; "I like Higgins looking messy", "I do not want him looking proper", "I do not what any hair cut from his face area". Even after hearing these statements, they completely cut off his eyebrows!!! When asked why they cut off his eyebrows, they indicated that I said that I wanted to see his eyes, which is a complete LIE! I had indicated that it had been a couple months since his last haircut and the groomer reached down for a couple seconds and recommended "trimming his hair down". This meant to me that his hair would be trimmed down to 1/2 to 1" in length, so I agreed. As can be seen in the photo, they trimmed his hair completely down to the skin! When asked why they indicated that they said to me that he had to be shaved completely down ("naked") since it was only his second haircut in a year, which again is a complete LIE! We have been clients of Designer Paws in UA for a few years now. This is a long review, but please read in full, as they have refused to follow up with us. During one of our dog's grooming appointments earlier this year, he was groomed very close on his neck (so close you could see his skin tone) and he developed an irritated spot. We took him to our vet, who believed the injury was consistent with a grooming-related injury. They prescribed a topical ointment, and he had to wear a cone for over two weeks while it healed. Our vet specifically advised us to notify the groomer, which we did right after the vet appointment. When we called Designer Paws to follow up, we were not angry or rude. We simply let them know what had happened because we didn't want it to happen again. We did not leave a negative review, ask for a refund, or request reimbursement for the veterinary bill. That said, Designer Paws also did not offer to make the situation right. They told us they would make a note in his file not to groom his neck that short again. We appreciated that response and decided to give them another chance. At his next appointment, we were told to pick him up at 6pm (their closing time). I arrived at 6pm and were then told it would be another 30 minutes. No problem - I waited in the parking lot then went into the store at 6:30, but he ultimately wasn't ready until 7pm. They apologized, saying someone hadn't shown up that day - we get it, things happen. We didn't complain because we would much rather they take the time necessary to groom him safely than rush and risk another injury. Again, we did not ask for any discount or concession; Designer Paws also did not offer any. When it was time to schedule his next appointment, they booked us without issue. A couple of hours later, however, we received a text message stating that our appointment had been canceled because they were "no longer a good fit for his specific needs." This was confusing because the only request we had ever made was that they not shave his neck as short after his previous injury. Our dog does not receive a complicated, "Cocker Spaniel" style haircut--he gets a simple, uniform-length groom--and throughout the years we were consistently told he was always "such a good boy" and a "perfect gentleman." We have never received a negative report about his behavior. We have never left a negative review or been rude to their staff or the owner. Again, we did not respond with anger or rudeness after the appointment was cancelled. We simply called and texted to ask for an explanation. The person we spoke with could not offer a clear explanation, she was just given instructions to cancel the appointment. But we were told the owner, Misty Gieczys, would call us the following Tuesday. After we received no call, we also spoke with someone at the Westerville location who told us Misty would call us when she was back at that location next. Over two weeks, we made several attempts to speak with her and never received a return call or text. Yesterday, we discovered that one of our phone numbers had been blocked at both of their locations, and another one of our phone numbers had been blocked at one location but not the other. That confirmed to us that our calls were being intentionally blocked rather than there being a phone system issue. We've made a few phone calls over two weeks, in no way peppering them with phone calls or harassing the staff. We have been patient throughout this entire process. We simply wanted our dog to be groomed safely and hoped to have an honest conversation after his appointment was canceled. Instead, we were met with poor communication, a lack of accountability, and no opportunity to discuss our concerns. We hope anyone who continues to go to Designer Paws has great experiences as we mostly had for years. However, I hope this review gets the attention of the Owner and management, and they make a genuine effort to improve their accountability and communication with the clients they claim to value. read more

We've had our cat Tiffany for 5 years now and after 2 or 3 years she started blowing out her coat and developing mats in the Fall/Winter (she's a Siberian). We tried to brush her out everyday, but we couldn't keep up with the mats! Tiffany is also sensitive to brushing/combing. The groomer, Emily, did an excellent job removing Tiffany's mats and even suggested having her preemptively shaved, so it's less of an issue in the future (and also cheaper). She recommended giving our cat gabapentin 2-3 hours beforehand to calm her nerves as well. We got some from our vet, Cats Only, down the street. Tiffany is a nervous cat, but Designer Paws did an amazing job of keeping her calm and she was in and out in around 30-40 minutes. They gave her the classic lion cut, which works great for her coat color. I'd highly recommend Designer Paws Salon in Upper Arlington. Their staff is friendly and helpful and their groomers are talented and caring. read more

WARNING: My cat was injured at Designer Paws (Upper Arlington). I brought my cat in on June 9, 2025, for a Lion cut. The appointment felt rushed--under 30 minutes--and the groomer (Missy) said almost nothing when I picked her up. Once home, I discovered two open, bleeding wounds on my cat's backside that were not there before the grooming. These appeared to be nicks from the clippers. I immediately began cleaning the wounds and applying antibiotic ointment, and took photos two days later to document them. I contacted the salon right away. On June 12, I received a call from the manager (Cheyenne), who was cold, defensive, and insisted that because I signed a waiver, they weren't responsible--even if they caused the injuries. I was shocked by the lack of accountability or concern. Accidents can happen, but how a business responds matters. There was no apology, no offer to help, and no compassion. Please think twice before taking your pet here. In my experience, the groomers were rushed and careless, and the management was unprofessional and dismissive. There are safer, more respectful places for your pet. ***In response to the owner's reply: *** My cat is not 20 years old--she is 15. It's clear that Misty is not only completely un-professional, but she also didn't even take the time to verify basic facts before making a public statement. That level of carelessness is deeply concerning. Additionally, the minor in-grown toenail referenced in their reply was treated by our veterinarian yesterday. It was easily resolved and antibiotics were administered. This issue had nothing to do with the open wounds on her backside that appeared immediately after her grooming appointment. I am shocked by the owner's blatant inaccuracies and lack of professionalism in their public response. After reading it, I called our vet directly. They recommended I report the incident to the Ohio Department of Agriculture - Animal Facility Oversight Division, the Central Ohio Humance Society's animal curelty department and the Ohio Attorney General's Office, which I have now done. To anyone considering this business: please think twice. There are multiple reviews across many social media platforms describing similar experiences of negligence, injury, and indifference. Buyer beware: Designer Paws Salon Rated a 1 because I couldn't rate 0 Short version: the salon bait-and-switched me into paying DOUBLE what I normally pay for grooming services at their location. I feel I'm very cautious about these things, so if your pet gets groomed, read my story before it happens to you. Whole story: I have a wire-haired breed, which by my choice requires a process called hand stripping, different from shaving or clipping (scissors). This takes longer, and not many groomers are trained to do this. It's a lengthy expensive process, and since I'm paying more I expect it to look excellent. Over the past year I've noticed the quality of the groom has gone down at this location and he has returned with wounds looking like scissor marks (once I was even asked to sign a waiver for the wound) but other times he came home with multiple long scissor cut wounds on his belly with no explanation. The hand stripping I pay for should have nothing to do with scissors. Furthermore, why didn't anyone tell me he was injured?? I understand dogs move! But no one wanted me to know bc they shouldn't have been using them in the first place. Most recently, I drove all the way to his appointment to find out it was cancelled bc the groomer of the day was sick. I complained stating I felt they should honor their $25 cancellation fee (which they did), and mentioned my grooming concerns. I do not feel it's ethical for me to be paying for a service they weren't actually doing. On my drive home the manager called to inform me the owner, Misty, asked to groom my dog herself to show me what they can do at his rescheduled appointment. I agreed, thinking this was them offering good customer service as a response to my concerns. A few days later I drop him off and we discuss dog CPR and how I'd like him to look. At NO point did she verbally mention or draw attention to the fact that because she's the owner of the shop her rates would cost more than a regular groomer, 20% more infact. it was apparently "written on the form" they had me sign. the same form they have me sign every time for services. Correct me if I'm wrong but if a bill is going up for cable, electric, etc.. generally there's some font change or yellow highlight etc that says 'hey look at me! Fees are changing!!' This would have been an excellent time for the owner, Misty, to tell me to my face "hey just so you know I cost 20% more than the regular groomers", however she failed to do so and just let me sign the form unknowingly. Yes, I could have read it. But it's very shady business to give me the same form they give me every time, specifically after she ASKED to groom my dog, and not draw this to my attention. Foolish on my part to think they were offering for the owner to groom my dog as good customer service due to my questioning if they were really hand-stripping. Apparently customer service is out the window. So, when I go to pick him up, he cost DOUBLE what I would normally pay for him (including the $25 discount) and in trying to be kind, in good faith I still gave a 20% tip, assuming there was some sort of clerical error at the front desk that I could work out with a phone call the next day. My mistake. The manager and Misty are refusing to acknowledge their shady way of running a business. Misty the "award winning owner" doesn't even have the decency to call me herself. They can't even return phone calls they just send me texts. The whole thing is incredibly unprofessional and feels like a scam. The best part? They said they will no longer be grooming my dog, as if I would ever return here lmao. I truly wonder if the original groomer was sick the first day like they said she was or if this was all part of a ploy. Buyer beware and don't subject your pets OR your wallet to this place. read more

Wished we liked this salon as it looks very popular ( busy) and is a convenient location. Our first appointment, the groomer dragged my sweet dog back into the grooming area by his leash on his bum, as he was frightened and wouldn't stand up. My mistake in not leaving with him right then. He came home after his 4 hour appointment so thirsty and exhausted that he acted stressed all night. We gave them benefit of the doubt and went back once more. He didn't get much of a cut and when I asked about his nails I was told they would "'try" to cut his ( very long) nails next time... he didn't like it. We won't try a 3rd time. The grooming was just fair. The largest reason for the low rating is that due to a mixup, my daughter, who had dropped off our cat and was supposed to pick him up, did not leave her phone no. with the salon. They attempted to call and text me when cat was ready but since I had just had major surgery a few days before, I wasn't able to access my phone. When I finally was reached by the salon, I immediately called my daughter who headed to pick the cat up. I apologized to the salon profusely but then was coldly advised that they had a $2.00 per minute late charge and since it would be 2 hours after closing b/f cat could be picked up, they were charging an additional $240 late fee on top of the $135 grooming charge! I tried to plead our case about the mixup, that my daughter was young, we were established customers, and about the medical issues but I could tell the girl wasn't listening, and just repeated that they "had" to charge the late fee since it was stated on the agreement form and they have to pay overtime when pickups are late. I want a job there if that's what they pay for 2 hours of overtime! I fully understand that we were late and would have expected to pay a reasonable fee for this, but not giving an existing customer a grace period or a break if any kind shows very poor customer care, support, service and understanding. It was clearly worth losing regular customers over a one-time mistake since we won't be returning. read more

This past week I brought my dog into the salon for her regular groom. We were excited, it was needed, 6 weeks is way too long to wait however with the weather, it was the best we could do. Charlie though nervous knew there was no way out......his groomer when she took him from me said he was very much matted and would have to go down to 1/2 of inch on his coat. He is regular brushed however with wearing a winter coat and with it getting wet as he is a teddy bear shiaztu/maltese mix he is low to the ground. I was explicit DO NOT SHAVE HIM......after 3 hours of him being there and me living 40 minutes away I went to get him. The person at the front desk said she would bring him out in a few minutes and if I wanted to pay for the service while waiting...MY GUT FEELING WAS WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE HIM, WHO PAYS FOR A SERVICE WITHOUT SEEING YOUR DOG? However, I obliged and then after I am sure she went in to tell the girl who destroyed his coat, the owner is here.....she came out and behind her came my dog, head down, not the perky guy I dropped off. She was far from kind and both her and the other person at the front desk stared at me waiting I am sure for a reaction. I simply said "I am not Happy with this" literally wanted to cry and picked him up and left, absolutely devastated. Now their response will be it was in the best interest of Charlie.... and maybe it was in their world, in my world of heart, I could only imagine his fear as they sheared his entire coat off of him. He since has not been the same. Very quiet, aloof and sad. I was refused a refund, of course I was, it is not about the money, it is about the spirit of my dog, his inner spirit, money cannot buy that, keep the money, take a bath in it, I do not care, I just want my dog back..... After all my complaining I was sent this picture of the groomer proudly holding up my dog's entire coat, like a trophy, to support her decision as she knew there would be repercussions from all of this and needed all the evidence she could muster. When I saw the picture, I literally cried, how scared he must have been, he is just a baby, who went through those doors and came out a damaged spirited dog. I've been going to Designer Paws Salon for the past 3 years. Misty does a great job with my dogs - I am thankful to have found a groomer of her caliber. She goes above & beyond with continuing education with her staff & reviews each of my dogs every time we come in. She'll ask about changes to their medical history. vaccine updates, how the last hair cut lasted & if there's anything I want changed this time. On top of that my dogs LOVE Misty & the salon & that's because she's so terrific with them. She's the only person on the planet that can cut Scout's nails & Scout still loves to see her & gives her kisses when we get there! I'd recommend her to anyone. She will give you advice on how to maintain coats, deal with matting, recommend products to use - she's the whole package. I'll also say after reading some of the 1* reviews - if you bring in your dog & it's a matted mess - she's going to put the dog first & do what's best for the dog. Both of mine have had mats on occasion, although I'm proud to say with her coaching I rarely have mats anymore, and they have not needed shaved down & it wasn't even suggested. She will do her absolute best to give you the groom you want. She has a case of trophy's & is very serious about her craft. We are lucky to have a Master Groomer like Misty in Columbus. read more

BEWARE! This is an updated review based on my horrible experience today. My pup had a puppy package appointment today, but unfortunately I got delayed due to work and ended up being 15 minutes late. They tell me they're not sure they will still take her, and that they will charge me a cancel fee. I say, I'm not canceling, I'm here. They say well then we'll charge you a late fee. I'm still annoyed by this, but agree. They call me FOUR hours later (ya know because I'm sure they spent all that time on my 5.2lb toy poodle), and tell me she's ready. I go there and go to pay, and find out that this "late fee", is actually $40!!! The puppy cut only cost $30, and they're charging me $40 for being 15 min late to a dog grooming appointment. My dog is a dog who requires weekly grooming. For the longest time she saw a mobile groomer in NYC and so when I moved here to Columbus I was dreading finding a groomer to put up with my dog's shenanigans. After a few people recommended Misty I scheduled an appointment at their new Upper Arlington location where she grooms exclusively at. The facility is new and super clean, and everything including grooming notes is in their computer system, which is a huge plus. Misty was pulling double duty between working the front desk and grooming but once the 9 AM intake rush was over she spoke to me for a while about what needed to be done and what was a yay or nay about my desired grooming experience with my pup. A little less than 4 hours my pup came out looking fluffed, puffed, and smelling great! She isn't an easy dog to groom being super vocal and dramatic but Misty did a wonderful job! The best part is I don't have a spazed out and overly stressed dog, which is always the biggest concern for me beyond how she looks and smells, since this will be a part of my dog's life for the rest of her life! read more
