I have to give a lot of props to Payne Marine - they helped us out of a major jam and were friendly and professional. Can't ask for much more at a marina. My group and I ended up pulling into this place on our boating trip through Georgian Bay, and were welcomed in with open arms. This is the first marina I'd visited in the area, and the site itself is nicely laid-out. We all had a chance to visit the main office/store, which has a surprising amount of amenities available including an internet cafe and its own gas station. There are also a number of maps and guides you can buy for the local area. I knew I was in unfamiliar territory when I watched a boater sail up, have an attendant fill the boat's gas tank up, then tell her to charge it to his account without ever once leaving the dock. There's definitely a different vibe and culture to this place, which we experienced first-hand. We ended up getting into a boating accident after a member of my group (who had no boating experience whatsoever) accelerated out of the dock and ended up getting us lodged onto the dock via an errant wave. The boat nearly sank, but the staff were quick to run out and help us. They went above and beyond for us, lending us a motorized pump to get all the water out. Special shout-out to the employee who worked there, Alyssa, who was friendly and helped us out through the whole process. She even posed for pictures with my friend, LOL. The staff at Payne Marine were a great help and turned a momentarily-precarious situation into a fond memory. Will definitely be back if I'm out in Georgian Bay again. Worth a visit.

We bought a boat from these CROOKS and when we took it back due to an undisclosed problem, they spent more time boasting about their marvellous reputation and "integrity" than time spent fixing what they had attempted to cover up. They have no regard for their customers. They are only concerned with managing perception and a false facade. Now, only after 100 hrs on the boat since we bought it, the work they claimed to have done so impeccably and professionally has to be removed and redone - PROPERLY! They are the most dishonest group of people, starting right at the top, Mr. Poole. And what's worse than dishonest is their general incompetence, which is only preceded by their arrogance. It's this arrogance of theirs that gave birth to a higher level of absolute ignorance than I have ever experienced in my 35 years as a business owner. A decent little marina/rental shop that's located right outside Sturgeon Bay Provincial Park and…read moreoffers boat rentals for the day. While the building itself may be a bit dated, it more than makes up for it in service. Get past the lifejackets stacked in the corner of the store and the general disorganized feeling and you'll find that this place has a lot of options for boaters, including several types of boats (with variable speeds) that can be rented out. My group ended up settling for a 15-horsepower boat that cost us $80 for the day plus gas charges. Luckily, they'll refund a portion of the gas charge based on what you have left at the end of the day. This is a very laid-back place. The owner's dog saunters around and sees visitors off in the boat (by sitting at the end of the dock), and we had some old (very old) paddles in the boat that we attempted to use to row (to no avail). The boats get you to where you need to go and the general experience is very good. The owner gave my group a short lesson on how to use the boat (one of my friends had boating experience and knew how to operate one), which was appreciated. Sturgeon Bay Marine is a great place to rent a boat if you don't have any other options.
