Fun simulation ride. Well done. Kid friendly. Recommend for families. I like these simulation rides, and I have mixed feelings about the fact that a lot of the attractions are moving in this direction, but this one was good for kids and they got a lot of fun. The nice thing is that they have access accessibility to people with disability or people who may are limited in their ability to participate in the ride fully, which is really nice. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a fun, silly break from the bigger thrill rides at Universal Studios Hollywood. The queue is entertaining on its own, packed with Minion humor and Gru's over-the-top gadgets. The ride itself is a motion simulator, so you're not going anywhere physically, but it does a great job of making you feel like you're being launched into Minion chaos. It's loud, fast-paced, and filled with enough banana jokes to keep kids and adults laughing. Not the most intense ride in the park, but it's a solid option when you want to sit down for a few minutes and get blasted with animated mayhem. If you're even slightly a fan of the Minions, it's definitely worth hopping in line. read more

Enter Gru's house and enjoy the ride!! I would not wait more than 20 minutes for this ride. It is fun and I like it, but not worth a long wait. Most of the time, the wait is not the bad. At least every time I go, it is a short wait. One time, I did wait 45 minutes one time, just because my friend realllly wanted to go on this. It was not worth that time. You wait and then are brought into this area for a pre-show. That is fun to watch! Then you line up to get on the actual ride. The ride is a total hoot! Its fun and immersive. You feel like you are in the Minions world! It is great! It is a motion simulator, so some might get a little motion sickness. But I think most people are okay on this one. Super cute 2D motion simulator ride. The ride entrance is Gru's house, complete with the purple front door and space craft car parked in the carport. Get set for a fun filled adventurous ride with Gru, Margo, Agnes, Edith, and the minions. I had an express pass, so there was no wait. Right when I walked in, I was in the foyer to Gru's house. Then I walked through a queue that lead to Gru's living room. The design detail was super cool. Luved the family tree drawing and faux mounted taxidermy heads. The girls appear on the house camera video explaining to use that we will be trained as minions. We are then lead to an adjoining room which is Gru's lab. Gru explains that he has a plan to change us humans into minions and anybody unwilling will be shoot with the fart gun. Minion farts smell like bananas?!? We are lead into the ride room. Each vehicle seats 4. Another cool thing is that the original movie cast members voice the attraction. read more

Hooray!! No more 3D goggles required for the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride! It's been over 6 years since I last visited Universal Studios Hollywood. My husband and I visited for a quick trip at Universal Studios Hollywood in early February on a Thursday! There was a minimum wait, approximately 15 minutes for the ride. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is located right across from the Secret Life of Pets ride, near Super Silly Fun Land! The wait queue has a few TVs setup. The questionnaire that you'll read has a few jokes to see if you're ready to become a minion! Afterwards, you'll enter a minion room with 6 different aisles. You'll watch a pre-show with Gru and a few other characters from the Despicable Me Movies. From there, you're brought into another room, with a pre-show TV screen. Gru informs you that you're a new batch of humans that will turn into Minions with their new technology. You may even get blasted with a banana fart at the end! Once the pre-show is over, you'll walk into the ride and sit down. There are 4 seats per car area. You do not need 3D goggles anymore! We were in the far back and could see the entire screen! We didn't have any viewing angles cut off. This ride does have a height requirement of 40' in order to ride it. It's considered a motion simulation ride. If you have a Universal Express Pass, it does work on this ride! If you get motion sickness easily, I'd highly recommend avoiding this ride. Once you're off the ride, you go into a dance party room with minion music! You're then dropped off into the Super Silly Stuff store for ride-inspired gifts and souvenirs! read more

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is located on the Upper Lot at Universal Studios Hollywood. The actual ride is great for both Kids & Adults. Ride has a height requirement of 40". Check ride wait times on the Universal Studios App on your phone or find posted wait times at ride entrance. It's a motion picture type ride which you sit down & you move simultaneously w/ the screen. It's not an actual roller coaster but the ride can very much feel like one. It definitely shakes, moves you & jerks you around. Some sudden movements like dramatic accelerations, stops & drops. It's a cute, fun & colorful ride without having to leave the room. This is such a fun and cute ride you'll need to wear 3D glasses for. The queue keeps you entertained with story is pretty entertaining. On the screens, you learn about being recruited to be a minion, and there are Minion-quizzes that you can take. Before you get into the theater, they "turn" you into a minion and you get taken through a wacky ride that's kind of like the Star Tours in Disneyland. I won't spoil the story for you, but if you enjoy the Despicable Me movies and the minions, you will like this ride. read more

This is like the minion video came but in 3D. You put on glasses and watch as the wacky Minions prepare for their anniversary of being adopted by Gru. You get to see their lair, run with them GoPro style through their world, and become a Minion. Just an overall fun ride for adults and kids. Waiting in line you get to go through Gru's living room and see scenes from the movie like paintings and stuff. If you like Minions, this ride should be on your list. read more

Let me take you back to 2002 - Bump bump bump!!! B2K baby. Every time I ride Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, this song plays in my head. If you are a top endowed woman like myself, you gonna be bouncing and bumping having to hold your bits & pieces in place! If you don't, you will live in regret after. Trust. That's my Pro-Tip for the ladies on this ride! The theming on this ride is fabulous! The outside looks just like Gru's house and while in the pre-shows everything is so fun. That being said...two pre shows is a bit much. Once you get on the ride, goodness gracious is it fun! It feels immersive and real even though you're in a huge theater with others. It's a motion simulator 2-D ride so buckle up! I'm not sure why they got rid of the 3D but whateva. I've ridden this many times and haven't ever had issues but my last visit was a hot mess. When getting into line, we went in an empty line we thought was for people with Universal Express. We got to the front and the worker yelled "What are you doing?" causing everyone to turn and watch. I replied "Oh we have the Universal Express pass." Then she yelled "No, get in that line". Sheesh, no need to yell or not be kind. We didn't know and it's a theme park...you can't expect everyone to know everything. Then, when we got on the ride they had to stop it three times because someone kept standing up until they finally kicked them off. Double sheesh! Anywaysssssss, when you exit, you're hit with a big gift shop and across from the exit is Super Silly Fun Land from the movie, basically a play zone great for little ones. Hit this right when you enter the park (hard left at Starbucks)! It does get to be a long line (sweltering outside during summer) on weekends/holidays. Alas, no more 3-D goggles due to Covid. And that outdoor line is still not fun with the loudspeakers too loudly proclaiming that you should become a minion! Once inside, you enter two different rooms (holding chambers) where you are entertained by Gru, his minions and his three adopted daughters: Edith, Agnes and Margo. I love the adoption and importance of family theme here. Finally, you'll be able to enter a large auditorium-like room and be seated in the simulator. This was the old Terminator simulator room. Banana farts. Minion induction obstacle course. Dance Party. It's all good fun. Pro Tip: Take a Shower first or Gru will know!! ;-) read more

Super cute ride! I love the Minions! I'm just okay with Despicable Me as a movie, but I did like the Minions movie and how hyper these little dudes are in general. It was about a 15 minute wait inside during a private event in the evening. There was a looping walkway in and 2 waiting rooms. One being Gru's living room with a Gru family tree, art from the gorls, and some other neat things to look at. Once inside the second room, you get the story of what's about to go down on the ride. Gru's hiring extra Minions and he's transforming you into some and the gorls are gonna give you some Minion training! It's very fun to get a sweet, strong smell of bananas! The ride is another motion simulator with a screen to look at. Very fun, cute, and wholesome. Nothing too intense. I'd rank it lower than the Transformers and Harry Potter ride and sort of on the same level as the Simpsons one. Once the ride is over, you can walk through and see yourself at a Minion dance party! read more

This ride looks like a Star Wars ride at the Disneyland Resort. It represents turning humans into minions from the screen that the girls do. We saw Gru inside the ride talking to people. This is a fun 3D ride that caters more to children obviously but pretty fun overall for everyone... The waiting room right before you enter the ride has some pretty cool props to hit up on the gram before you enter. There's a mini movie introduction before you enter the room for the experience itself. It's cute and funny for all ages. When you walk into the ride room, you put on 3D glasses and sit in a motion simulator that seats 4. All the motion simulators face a giant screen that plays the adventure. The pairing of the simulator and the giant movie screen is on point and choreographed well. The 3D glasses didn't enhance the experience as much as I thought it would but it didn't hinder it either. The story theme is that the whole audience is turned into minions. You go through minion training and get caught up into an adventure with the kids saving a present for Gru in the minion factory. The minions being goofy minions really make this ride fun. The express pass is a must for this ride. If you waited a long time to get in you might be pretty disappointed as it's a pretty short experience overall. Get that express pass ya'll! Enjoy! =) read more

Perfect kid ride! Even for adults because I love it. The ride is super cute. We get turned into "minions" and the ride is a motion simulator. Do not ride if motion sickness affects you easily. I love how when you walk out you can see yourself on screen at the minion dance party! Right before the ride there are 2 main waiting rooms. You walk into Grus living room first. Then the second waiting room you're like in his lab where you basically get a sense of the story line. As well as get to smell a strong scent of bananas. The ride isn't very long but perfect for children. Line is typically long though especially on the weekends/holidays. So be prepared to wait unless you have an express pass. The props for the ride are amazing. I love the detail throughout the wait like the detail from Grus living room. read more

Line up for this ride was always on average 20 minutes when we went. I don't think it's worth the wait because it is more geared towards kids. They do let lots of people in at the same time and it's like watching a movie on a spherical screen and the bench you sit on moves. You get 3D glasses. The story is very cute, as you wait the tv's play some clips from the movies and they quiz you on minion behaviours. Once inside you get instructions about the "transformation" process and because minions are always quite clumsy, you revert back to human as the ride ends. The set decor for Despicable Me is really great. I think they did a great job recreating it. read more

This so-called ride at Universal Studios Hollywood is not one of my favorites, but like all things theme park related, my three little ones insist that we need to do it every time we visit. There's only so many hours in a day, but annual passes have a way of balancing things out in the long run. Considering the price differential between universal studios and that theme park in Anaheim... The name escapes me at the moment... This is a better deal for me. Minion mayhem used to involve some kind of 3-D glasses, that in my opinion never really worked all that well anyway. The motion simulator - - now enjoyed for a minute or two without the aid of glasses - - sort of bounces up and down and side to side, as the giant screen displays all sorts of animated twists and turns. For my part, I guess the thing I enjoy most about this ride are the artistic posters displayed every so often while you stand in the insufferable long line but always seems to be here. Did I mention the line is long? At least universal offers pretty good opportunities for people watching. And I remind myself, quite often actually, that I'm not really here for me anyway. This miles on my kids faces, and their utter exhaustion as I carry them in from the car asleep at the end of the day give me all the motivation I need to go back. Besides, someday I will just smile and nod knowingly, as my kids tell me about their adventures as parents, hopefully doing the same sorts of things with their little ones. read more

This simulator ride in 3D is all about people being turned into minions. If you have seen Despicable Me, you should be familiar with Gru and his adopted daughters. If you haven't, don't fret because it's not really a requirement to know the storyline of the movie to enjoy the ride. While in line, there are several tv screens introducing you to the different characters in the movie. Then they show what minions do and if you want to be one, you need to enter the secret door. The ride is kind of short but entertaining enough. There's a lot of shaking and sudden turns while viewing the show in 3D glasses. It's highly recommended for kids who love Minions. Express Pass only! If you're a Single Rider, you're gonna be stuck waiting in line like everyone else. First and foremost, go pee! I've seen parents with lil kiddies or people, who have to leave this line because they couldn't hold it any longer. Waiting Time: LONGEST WAIT EVER! 1 hour, but it felt more like an eternity. I got to this ride around 4pm after leaving the Animal Actors Stage Show. Had they allowed Single Riders, the wait time probably would've been less than 15mins. THE WAITING GAME: You're stuck waiting in these long, zig-zag of rows (about 12 rows of them). Just when you think you've reached the end, nope it keeps going until you finally reach the very top where the employees with lab coats on are passing out the 3D goggles. Make sure you have a decent amount of cell phone battery power, folks to chit chat with or something else to read with. You can eat and drink while waiting too. There are also two water fountains along two midway points (just make sure you can hold your pee). Once you reach the top, you're almost there. Next, you're ushered into NOT ONE, BUT TWO more waiting rooms. The First Waiting Room mimics Gru's living room, and you'll be introduced to Gru, his three adopted daughters and the Minions. Next, you'll be ushered into the Second Waiting Room, which is Gru's laboratory to be transformed into a Minion. Finally, the ride starts... One Star for the Ride: 3D Simulator Ride, which was quite fun and entertaining. The seats move along with the story. There's a lot of jerking back and forth. However, this ride is much more gentler than The Simpsons Ride. Though, if you are prone to motion sickness, you might want to skip this ride. Once the ride is over, you'll be ushered into the Third Waiting Room to see if you've become a Minion or not. Only 5mins of waiting (thank gawd!) A quick Mini Minion dance party ensures and then you're lead out to Funland / Minions Gift Shop. Overall, the wait for this ride was the worst. I really do wished they allowed Single Riders on here. It could definitely help alleviate the flow of traffic. read more

I don't know what a Minion is, but this ride is fun even if you're minion-challenged like I am. The actual ride set-up is similar to the way you're loaded for The Simpsons ride and this entire experience is a lot like the other attractions at Universal. I did think the Minion ride lacked some of the stomach dropping effects of the Harry Potter or Simpsons ride - so this one may be better for those that are prone to motion sickness or for kids. We waited 40 minutes in line. We hardly noticed the waiting time since there were TV monitors everywhere with minions. It's fun for all ages, you don't have to see the movies to appreciate it. I highly recommended this ride. Once your ride is complete, make sure to visit their cafe or snack bar for their Hazelnut banana minion pudding and churros. read more

Who wants to become a Minion??? If you do, walk right on in! As you are waiting in line, you will see TVs overhead with Q&As to see if you can are Minion material! Too cute!! You will also need to pick up a pair of Minion Goggles. Although the goggles you get are for two eyes, you will see a video about the goggles that is pretty silly. I never saw Despicable Me, but I did see Minions. I missed out on all the things about Gru, but with that said, I still enjoyed this simulator ride! It was really fun! Gru, even though he has a dark side, is really loving to his 3 adopted orphan girls. And, those cute little Minions are adorable, even though you can't completely understand their gibberish. During this ride, you will be transformed into a Minion. There is a panel on your car which indicates if you are a Human or a Minion. The question is, will there be a ton of Minions exiting into the park when the ride is over? Just sit back and enjoy this Minion ride!! This was my first time and I'm glad I got to experience it! This is the latest attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood! Located where Terminator 3D used to be. When entering the park, go left after House of Horrors and Blues Brothers stage. If you're lucky, there will be live minions to take pictures with at the front. I recommend coming here first since the lines can get long. The wait time went up to 110 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. Make sure the little one's height is measured at the front before lining up! There are plenty of TVs in line playing minion quizzes to help pass the time. Once you get your minion goggles, your party is put into another line to watch a safety video and how to wear your goggles. You're then led into another room where Gru and the girls explain that you'll be going thru minion training.. I won't spoil it, but it's entertaining! Make sure you take a shower before coming ;) Just like the Simpsons and Transformers, this is a 3D ride. Each car has 8 seats (4 in front, 4 in back) and I spotted approximately 20 cars. Lots of bumps and jumps since you ARE training to be a minion! I don't recommend riding if you're easily prone to motion sickness. My nieces and nephew were screaming in excitement the whole entire time! When the ride is over, you enter a "dance party" where you can see yourself on screen with minions! Universal also strategically placed the exit as an entrance into a gift shop with everything minions!! FYI: A stuffed unicorn (the one that's "so fluffy!") goes for $30. Let me put it this way, the graphics are so realistic, I got a little bit of motion sickness from the first 30 seconds on this attraction - it really did feel like I was on a little roller coaster ride. THE MISSION: You are recruited to be part of Gru's scientific experiment where humans are turned into minions - hence the goggle glasses you are given - and your task is to complete the course to prove that you are a worthy minion. Gru and Gru's daughters also play a role through the attraction and make it heartwarming and entertaining, just like the movies! OVERALL: The ride was super cute, it made me laugh, and the wait time was not bad at all despite it being one of the newest rides at Universal Studios. The ride was being advertised as being open on April 11th, but we were pleasantly surprised as we were walking by that it was already open to the public! Gru and his daughters were also outside the ride taking pictures with the park goers. ***TIP!: Make sure you tag your pictures with the hashtags "#MinionRide" and "#UniStudiosAP" to be entered into possibly winning free front of the line passes! read more
