There's some recent food that I had at Universal Studios: Luigi's Pizza Meat Hater slice This wasn't bad. It was one of the better things I had in the park that day. The pizza had fresh veggies! I liked that. There was a decent amount of cheese. The crust was alright. It could have been hotter maybe? But other than that, it was decent. I would eat this again. Toadstool Cafe Mushroom Soup This was horrible. It was the worst mushroom soup I have ever had. It tasted like mushrooms ground up and thrown in a broth. Just gross. I would not order this again. The cup is cool, and you can keep that. Tasted like garbage. Hogsmeade Butterbeer Actually, not too bad! It's bubbly and frothy lol Had an okay flavor. It tasted like root beer to me lol I would get this again! Power Up Cafe Veggie calzone This was not half bad! It is super cute, comes a mushroom head. It tasted pretty good. It had lots of veggies in it and I wish it had more cheese. It was edible though. I would order one again. The cafe itself was adorable! Toadstool Cafe Pirahna Salad The salad was very fresh. Mac & cheese w/fries (wedges) 1/5 (harry potter) also came with purple grapes. greasy and no cheese flavor at all. kids wouldn't even eat it and my son eats everything. $10 Cream cheese pretzel (snack bar) 2/5 wanted to try the jalapeño and cheese one but they were out of jalapeños but after eating this one i might not bother trying it. it was super dense and not enough cream cheese and it tasted weird like maybe it was cooked to much (maybe they're better fresh) 10/11/2023 chicken sandwich (jurassic cafe) 4/5 pretty bomb. my favorite thing i ate the whole trip. they skimped on the aoili and cooked veggies but over all very good. came with wedges. burger (jurassic cafe) 3/5 according to my husband it was kind of dry but okay over all. came with wedges. chicken empanadas (jurassic cafe) 2/5 tasted nothing like traditional empanadas. similar to the filling of a pot pie and weren't great. the chimichurri sauce was also just okay, very thick. sticky toffee pudding (harry potter 3 broom sticks) 5/5 we loved it! reminded me of a warm apple cake with a crunchy outside & paired with vanilla ice cream made it perfecttttt ice cream soda (mario cart outside mario land) strawberry 3/5 & green apple 2/5 my kids were not impressed with either flavor and didn't finish them but they were cute and fun. they had flavored sode, vanilla ice cream & boba at the bottom. read more

When I heard about the Taste of Universal, I was highly debating whether or not I should go. I decided to take a look at their menu, and didn't see too many specialty items. On their final week, I decided on a whim, to get tickets to the tasting event and was super happy I did! At the Taste of Universal, you get a total of 5 food vouchers included with your ticket price. At first I thought 5 food tastings weren't enough, but then realized that these weren't tastings but full on meals! My husband and I shared most of our entrees and we were full by the time we got halfway through. Our first stop was the three broomsticks, I ordered a shepherds pie, and some fish and chips. Both were delicious and was quite filling despite the size of the pie. We then made our way to the minion cafe and had a very delicious meatball and grilled cheese sandwich. The desserts there were adorable, but I decided to save those for another day. Headed over to Springfield next, and ordered a Krusty Burger. It was quite average, but nothing special. Went down to the lower lot to The Mummy Cafe to try the Korean and Spicy Hotdog. The Korean hotdog didn't taste Korean, and the spicy hotdog lived up to its name. Went back to Springfield for a Lard Lad Donut, grabbed a turkey leg to go, and packed a shepherds pie for the road! My biggest regret was not eating the clam chowder bread bowl there while I had the chance! read more

Normally I cannot ride on any of the roller coasters at Universal due to motion sickness issues, so I got the most value at Taste of Universal! Thank you to Universal & Co for organizing this fun and delicious event! Even though I miss the usual shows and tours, we fully enjoyed our day walking around the park and eating all the treats! You can pick 5 items from your Tasting ticket which includes entrees, desserts, snacks and drinks! Do come when it opens to avoid crowds and lines. We pretty much enjoyed our Krusty Burger and Sideshow Bob dogs by ourselves right outside of Krustyland the ride. We even got a few selfies with Homer at Kwik-E-Mart! Backpacks are allowed so we brought additional bottled water and containers for leftovers. Parking was free the first week, however now that the theater is open up it is $10 for general parking. I noticed the weekend pricing for the ticket itself has gone up $5 since I bought them as well. The two of us shared: 2 Krusty Burgers, 1 Sideshow Bob Nathan's hot dog, giant pink donut, banana and chocolate Minion pudding, frozen Butterbeer, and the Shepherd's pie. We had to take home the giant Bavarian pretzel, chicken sandwich and the brisket slider because we were so stuffed by then. Have to admit the chicken sandwich was the best tasting item and the brisket was a close 2nd. However be warn the slider is very tiny! I didn't know Megatron would be such a hoot talking down to everyone, and Bumblebee was very adorable. We got pictures with Hello Kitty and the Minion character as well. Overall I would have to say the food at Knott's festival are better, but Universal definitely gives a different vibe because of the movie themes. I wish all theme park would do more events like this in the future because I just love theme park food so much! read more

I went for the Taste of Universal event and LOVED every minute of it. Universal did such a great job in hosting this event. The process for parking, bag check's, and getting your food at all the venues was super organized. The staff was super friendly, and were following all the covid safety protocols. We'll start with parking: Preferred is $20 General is $10 For whichever one you choose, there are friendly employees everywhere to direct you exactly where you need to go. Bag check's: After parking, you make your way to the front of the park for the bag check's. It's your normal bag check procedure. You walk through the metal detectors while placing your bag on the conveyer belt so it's checked for safety. Picking up tickets: Once you're done with the bag checks, you then make your way over to the turnstiles to pick up your ticket. It comes in a linyard so you can just wear it around your neck for easier access. Each ticket has 5 boxes, (adult ticket, childrens ticket has 3 boxes) that is crossed out by the employee once you redeem your items. Now for the food: The food was excellent. It was the right portion so you can enjoy your options while not feeling jipped with the portion amount. We chose the Fish & Chips, Butter Beer, Krusty Burger, Lard Lad's Donut, Tater Tot's, Grilled Cheese with meatball, Mini Funnel Cake, Chocolate Brownie, Clam Chowder with Sourdough bowl, and Elote. We were a party of 4 so we were able to share our options so we can all try more. Tips: 1) Bring either bottled juice or bottled water in a bagpack, that way you won't have to use your ticker for purchasing drinks. 2) Bring some small tupple ware or foil so you can take some food to go. Honestly, it has literally been 20 years since the last time I came to Universal Studios. Having watched the youtube personalities, we knew that they let people in early for photo ops. We arrived at about 1030 and opted to pay the extra for the preferred parking, which is the small section directly in front of the spinning globe. Entry was pretty smooth, as you first get a temperature check via a scanner thermometer. You then queue up for the metal detectors, and they xray your bags for safety. You can bring in bottled water and hydroflasks, but i'm not sure if you can bring in cans or soda bottles. If you take photos or selfies, KEEP YOUR MASK ON. Taking your mask off when you're not in a designated eating or drinking area and not in the process of eating or drinking grants you a quick visit and reminder from the employees. Cleaning and sanitizing occurs frequently. The workers are trying their best to immediately clean every vacant table, and the tables are spaced out as best as possible. When you are about to get on a ride, your hands will be spritzed by a worker with sanitizer before you are allowed onto the ride. When we came on April 9th, they were in the process of "testing" the rides. The park officially opens on April 16th, so those rides will be sure to be packed. TIP: sign up for the virtual queues as soon as possible, otherwise you'll be SOL. Foodwise: when they advertise Taste of Universal, it pretty much is that. There's no innovation or new products being offered, it's just the same menu that they've had before. Make sure you ask for any utinsels when you get your food, as there are no dispensers for them out and about like a certain Farm in Buena Park. The Krusty Burger was a little dry and messy, and the bun felt stale. The Sideshow Bob Footlong Hot Dog was slightly better in taste, but nothing to write home about. We liked the Big Pink Donut, as tbe bread was moist, but the icing felt a bit heavy. We were pretty much full after that, but had 6 tabs to still go through. After doing a bit of sightseeing and ride "testing" over in the Jurassic World area, we came back up and wandered into Minion Land, then over to the Secret Life of Pets ride. When I say get that Virtual Queue in place, I mean it, as we were there at about 1, but the rest of the day was already booked out, and the park closes at 7pm for the tasting event. If you are unfortunate enough to not fit in the ride seat using the sest tester outside, you can still enter with the virtual queue and walk through the apartments and see the animals. We then wandered back over to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and had the Frozen Butterbeer and the Shepherds Pie from Three Broomsticks. I'll probably get some flack for this, but the Butterbeer is just Okay. It's not mind blowing, but it's not disgusting. The Shepherds Pie had good taste to it. It comes out very hot, so make sure you blow on each spoonful or you won't be able to taste anything afterwards. To close out the food portion of it, we got two of the Giant Bavarian Pretzels and two more of the Donuts. When we ordered the pretzels, we were told that they were being made and were told to come back to pick them up 15 minutes later. Watch out though, because you'll always have that person who doesnt listen and gets upset because they're standing there waiting and don't realize that you ordered earlier and are just picking up the order, not cutting them in line. We were on an intensive hunt for penny presses, and sadly were only able to find only 6 machines in the store, one of which was broken. In the studio store there's a Minions press, Harry Potter series 2 press and a Transformers press. There's a Simpsons one by the side of the Kwik E Mart, a machine next to the Mummy's ride, and a press inside the Jurassic Outfitters store. The rest of the machines are not in the park, but rather spread throughout the stores in CityWalk. Some stores do have more than one press in their premise, and if you get confused on where they are, just ask someone. Some machines only have 4 designs at $1 each. The machines that have 8 designs offer pring at $1 each, or all 8 for $5. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the park at all, so get that patch or chew that gum. It looks like they'll be on top of things when the park reopens, but Taste of Universal was a great way to preview and enjoy the park for basically the cost of parking and food. read more

This was my first time visiting Universal Studios in about 10 years so I really wasn't expecting much from this food event but was hopeful! It was not very crowded when we arrived, temperature screenings and place markers on the floor to maintain social distancing were clear and everywhere. Our first stop to eat we sat near the edge of the patio and they set up partitions on the other side so people wouldn't be walking right next to our table. Very happy to see that. Signs to help with one way direction were very clear and separated as well. Any character meet and greets were socially distant by having you stand on a marker and the character is behind you. The food I had was actually really good! Nice big portions too! I had the hot chicken sandwich, shepherds pie, fish & chips, beef birria nachos, and Mac and cheese with chicken and bacon. FYI, You do have to pay for parking! I would definitely recommend this food experience at the park and go with an empty stomach or some Tupperware! read more

We went on Friday of the second weekend, and I had some expectations because I watched a few vlogs talking about their experience. First, $10 parking is back so be prepared for that. For our visit, it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. Yes, there are lines but I expected worse since that's all people seem to be saying about it. If possible, choose what you want to use your tabs with so that you can strategically plan which stalls to hit up. The lines for us seemed to go fast and we didn't have any issues about finding any tables to eat at. I tried the Hot Chicken at Hollywood & Dine & the sandwich is pretty big with an equally impressive piece of chicken--wasn't dry and the spice was fairly mild for me. Of course, I had to get the Giant Donut at Springfield USA, and I'm not like a huge connoisseur of doughnuts, but the chocolate (of which I am a connoisseur of) is soft and super good. I thought I was being adventurous by trying the Spicy Pomegranate Glazed Turkey Leg at the City Snack Shop, but it was SOOO good!!! I haven't always had good experiences with turkey legs at amusement parks, but this one was tender and flavorful. The all-new Minion Cafe is aesthetically pleasing and a very pretty addition to the park. I tried the chicken, Bacon Ranch Mac & Cheese because I saw several recommendations for it, but I was disappointed with this one. It was flavorless and didn't have enough (or any) cheese--seemed weird even calling it "mac & cheese". Again, I seem to differ from other reviews of this dish so try it for yourself if you must. If I may, I suggest trying the Loaded Tater tots instead. Also, try the Hazelnut Banana Pudding--it's so pretty and okay tasting. It's only $5, so if you don't want to use a tasting tab, just pay out of pocket. I also had the Chicharrones de Pollo at Cocina Mexicana & this was crunchy and tasty--pretty much what I expected. We also paid extra for butterbeer at the Wizarding World because we couldn't leave without having some and THAT is just super good. It was a great experience for us since it's been over a year since we've been to an amusement park. The sights, the sounds....it was wonderful. Bring your mask, social distance & join in the fun if you can! Oh! And be prepared to be super FULL by the end of it all. LOL! read more

Had a great time at Taste of Universal. If you're hungry, I recommend using your ticket for entree items, and paying for drinks or dessert separately. Sodas are $5 and desserts are $5-$7. I'm using a scale of 1-5 for tastiness. I had the Beef Birria Loaded Nachos from Cocina Mexicana, I give them a 3.5/5. The Minion Cafe has some good offerings. Their loaded tots were tasty, 4.5 out of 5. Unicorn cupcake tasted like a muffin, 3 out of 5. Hazelnut banana pudding was a solid 4 out of 5. The Krusty burger was delicious, 4.5 out of 5. This was such a fun outing. It was really socially distanced, which was great. You get five tasting coupons and unlike Knotts, you get full sized portions. The best place that we tried was in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We got the Fish and Chips, the Shepards Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was really good, like real restaurant quality. It's very difficult to eat all five portions. We ended up taking home the big donuts, a pretzel and some cashew brittle. It was a lot of fun to be out and about and to have a lot of space to feel safe during this time. It was definitely worth the money. read more

My first ever Taste of Universal - Tasting Event was A-MAZ-ING! I'm so glad that Universal Studios has decided to partake in this (finally, it's about time!). COVID-19 Safety Procedures: Security will check your bags & do body temperature checks. Face masks & social distancing are strictly enforced. Hand sanitizer stations are located everywhere. Staffers wore face masks & gloves. In addition, Staffers are wiping down the tables whenever guests are done eating. Walking around eating & drinking is highly discouraged. Restrooms are quickly cleaned. The event itself is very organized & orderly. I felt very safe & comfortable being there the whole time. Parking: $10 General or $20 Preferred Dates: Starting March 12th until Sunday, April 4th ***ONLY Selected Fridays - Sundays, 12pm - 7pm*** Keep checking their website for extended dates. Ticket Prices: +Adults: Fridays $44.00 ($48.18 w/ tax) Saturdays/Sundays $49.00 ($53.66 w/ tax) +Children (3-9): $25.00 ($27.38 w/ tax) - FRI/SAT/SUN Please note: Rides & attractions are still closed. However, they do have some characters out for taking photo-ops w/(Donkey from Shrek, Minions, Hello Kitty, & Homer Simpson) as well as various selfie areas. Aesthetically pleasing w/a rich & moist Funfetti cake batter & creamy, but super sweet unicorn color frosting. $5 Hazelnut Banana Pudding: Another aesthetically pleasing dessert! The hazelnut banana pudding was sweet & delightful, just like those adorable Minions, hehe! +(Antojitos) Cocina Mexicana $10 Chicken Street Tacos (2pcs): The braised, shredded chicken was delicious & topped w/pickled onions, tomatoes, queso fresco & cilantro. Served w/a wedge of lime. $10 Chicken Tinga Nachos: Generous portion w/a bit of a heated kick to it, but still tasty. $10 Beyond the Meat Mulita: This yummy, smaller version of a quesadilla was "meaty" & savory. $6 Spiced Cashew Brittle: My friend bought this & I sampled a piece consisting of cashews, coconut oil & pumpkin spice. It was good but gets easily stuck to your teeth. In between eating, we also checked out various souvenir shops & walked around Universal Studios & played Pokémon Go!
