Bloomin' Cafe had gone through some growing pains when initially started, but definitely found their footing in a nice spot with ample parking in north Normal, Illinois. There have been changes made within the past year, some more subtle than others, but they make all the difference. The friendly, open atmosphere for breakfast is inviting and welcoming. The owners and their servers are all friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable, and that just makes you feel at ease to enjoy your meal. Speaking of which, some of the subtle changes you may notice are the organic ketchup condiment you have on the table and the real butter being used with your meal and for sides. This is intentional as it's about ensuring better quality, less additive ingredients are being used when preparing and serving your meal. Adding quality garnishes and spices to things like your eggs and hashbrowns are minor yet quite noticeable and enhance the meal in just the right way. Something that almost sounds silly when I'm saying it, yet is grossly devoid in many places is the fact that when you take a bite and taste the eggs, they taste like really fresh real eggs. Hashbrowns as well don't taste or feel like they have a bunch of extra or processed junk with them. A little salt and pepper to taste for each enhances the already great flavor. Additionally, the pancakes are exactly the same; great taste that just seems right. The meal tastes as it should, and brings me back to memories 40 years ago how my breakfast food used to taste. A few years ago, I may have said the meal was a bit on the pricey side, but in reality these days it's on par with other restaurants. However, that is a gross understatement as the quality is punching far above this standard of a weight class as the quality ingredients and preparation are much better. I've been here when it's early morning and not so busy as well as a mid Sunday morning with a packed house, and the meals stay consistent. The cooks do an excellent job and can you can tell they actually care about how they are preparing and serving the food. The cook and the owners do come around and ensure that things are just right as they care about their business and most importantly their customers, the life blood of why they do what they do. This may sound like a lot to just talk about some eggs on a plate, but if you really do care about what you eat and enjoy a simple yet quality meal, please consider patronizing this business and supporting what a family run restaurant in your local hometown should be. We took our car to Discount Tire and walked here while we were waiting. There were only a few other customers at 8 AM. I ordered a cheddar cheese omelet, hash browns and some French toast with fruit. My husband got the Decker skillet which had biscuits and gravy with eggs on top. The food came in about 5 minutes. The portions were huge and we both only ate half. Both were excellent! What went wrong: We both Ordered items that came with pancakes and toast respectfully. When food was brought out after a considerably long wait we didn't receive these items and when we asked about them the waitress didn't believe us that they came with the food and then verified it then came back from the kitchen with just two pieces of bread on a plate and severely burnt pancakes. This was my second try of this cafe in the past two years after a non resolved over charging situation in 2022. Sadly I still cannot recommend this for breakfast after this much time of trying it again. Happy to see a new owner take a shot at this place based on 2 sub-par visits to the previous 'egg cafe'...and it did seem like they cleaned up some of the logistics, And while the menu hasn't change significantly, it's not necessarily much of an upgrade either. Everything we had was what our party of 4 would call a mixed bag of 'adequate'. - The poached eggs were over-cooked. - If you prefer crispier hash browns you really need to let them know, cuz what came out was under-cooked. - Neither the cinnamon roll French toast nor the corned beef hash were home-made. - Like most other places, the current prices make you question the need to go out for brunch at all, - However, there seems to be a lot less unnecessary grease involved and the coffee is an incrementally small step up. The bottom line for visit #1...we would put everything (including the service levels) into the 'currently acceptable' range. This was our first time visiting this restaurant and boy it didn't disappoint. We were seated very promptly and our server Jordyn was quick to bring us coffees and water. She kindly let us take our time to peruse the menu, before we decide on the Hobo skillet (with the hash browns to be cooked extra crispy) with French toast, as well as the Garden Omelette also with French toast. The food came out promptly; in under ten minutes after we ordered. Everything tasted wonderful, especially the French toast. What I liked most was the convenience of paying right at our table after we were done with our meal. I'm so happy to see another brunch spot open in Bloomington/Normal! There's definitely a need for more places like this, especially in North Normal. Overall, my experience here was good! We came with a large group and our waitress totally nailed it - everyone got exactly what they ordered in a timer manner (except me, but that's okay, read on!). I got the Chicken Bacon Avocado Salad and that's where my 4/5 stars really comes into play. I really wish I had taken a picture of it, but by the time my salad finally got to me, most of the people I was with were halfway through their meals and I was getting pretty darn hungry - so, I scarfed it down before I could snap a pic. To describe the salad itself: It had about one cup of chopped romaine, 4 slices of cucumber, one tomato slice (cut into 4s), bacon bits, 1/4 of an avocado, and maybe 1/4 of a smashed/grilled chicken breast. It tasted good, but I think $12 is quite steep for this little salad. TV screens show their specials and the menu has something for everyone. I can only testify to the Benny's they serve. My favorite is the Bistro Benny.
