The people working in this place are so scared of COVID that they don't let you in with your kids. They follow the Chinese style 0 case policy violating peoples rights. This is not 2020. If you are this worried you should change your line of business. They will order you to leave and wait outside while your little ones are inside. The doctor complained about my review and said it is the same as dropping them off to school. It is not the same because kids are scared of going to the dentist not school. They are minors and should not be left alone with the doctor. I believe this is against the law. And they do not go to the dentist every day as they do to school. This was my daughters first dental experience and I cant say enough about how positive the experience was. The facility was very sterile and well organized. Very theme oriented, my daughters experience was great. The concept is that the child is "flying" to another destination. there were planes, clouds, and destination murals on the walls. My daughter was only 3 so of course she didnt really get it but she had and awesome experience. The dental tech gave her cool shades to wear and told her the dental chair was an airplane. My daughter probably has more frequent flier miles than most so she knows about flying... she kept saying this isnt an airplane. LOl! anyway, she went along with it and got her teeth cleaned without any problem. Dr. Biggs saw my daughter and seemed very nice. During the initial interview she asked me several questions about my daughters overall health then she processed to ask my daughter a series of questions about her favorite foods. It seems as though she was waiting for my daughter to say something crazy like I eat lollipops and drink soda all day. Anyway, she kept asking about her favorite veggies and her favorite snack, etc. At first it was a bit insulting to me as a parent because I take great care of my kids and invest alot of time in making sure they eat balanced meals and are healthy. But then I guess she doesnt know me and was counting on the honesty of my child to shed light into our daily eating habits. I talked it over with my husband and he agreed that my rationale was probably correct. Anyway, the office is full of bright colors and has something for everyone while waiting. The mags were all up to date. The toys were challenging/ fun in nature for the kids and there is a huge big screen for the parents. No complaints here. Great place and close to my house. This of course is in accordance with the recommendations from the American dental association, that children should see a dentist before age one or at the eruption of the first tooth. We are so glad we found Dr. Tingling as she has been the most gentle amazing dentist, I only wish I had this same experience as a child. I am absolutely in love with this place. They are so accommodating and just amazing. From walking in the front desk staff is so welcoming and I had to fill out my new client paper work so they walked my kids in the tv and put their favorite cartoon on. So sweet!! The dental assistant was so amazing with my kids and was showing them exactly and explaining the whole process. She just had such a wonderful happy personality. My son is ASD and they treated him so well and were just amazing with him and that speaks volumes. He's not the easiest kid at times. Doctor Biggs was just such a lovable sweet personable dentist. TERRIBLE experience and first impression with Dr. Tingling she clearly hasnt been around children. HARSH ATTITUDE!! i think its pretty valid for a 6 year old who has never been to the dentist to express that she doesnt trust the dentist... I am just learning the importance of dental work... I understand that her teeth are in the state they are in due to my lack of knowledge, but me taking her is me making an effort. I was told by the nice assistants that most parents dont know and was encouraged politely, but i definitely felt judged and degraded when talking to the actual Dr. which is so unfortunate because the rest of the appointment before we had our ending conversation was great. The cleaning and xrays went great with the assistants being super nice and gentle... but as soon as Dr. Tingling entered the room to discuss everything the energy changed, my daughter became awkward and didnt know how to respond, the dr asked her twice if she was okay or having a good day and my daughter responded by saying "sorry i dont trust you". I immediately tried to ease the tension but the dr lashed out and yelled at my daughter telling her she is disrespectful, saying that she will not tolerate disrespect in her office and that respect goes both ways- then she continued her frustration demanding that my daughter sit properly in the chair, as my kids overall body language has now changed to slumped over and unsure of what to do or say -at this point the Dr. was yelling at my daughter to belittle her and put her in her place, now my daughter is crying and is trying fix her seating position but is unsure how she is sitting wrong and is then yelled at again asked if she needs to have a demonstration of how to sit properly in the chair. Apparently to be spoken to by the Dr. she needed to have her bottom all the way back to the back of the chair I was in shock. Unfortunately the work that needs to be done is more important than my feelings being hurt for my daughter... but i am disgusted with how my daughter was treated, especially after being aware that this child has never been to the dentist, i dont see how someone could just expect trust when no relationship has been established. I hope that there isnt any animosity when we come in but honestly we already are geared up to come in for our next appointment :/ Update- they first told me that i could work with Dr. Biggs Or a different doctor and that i would have to physically approve Dr.Tingling- then i get a call that says Neither Dr. is willing to do the work for my daughter due to her interaction with the doctor!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I dont think these people want any new customers. They dont do well with any feedback. The truth seems to hurt their feelings enough for them to make a 6 year old cry for simply stating she didnt trust them. Disgusting!! I cannot believe the office is still running with all the bad reviews i can tell they all treat the customers with the same lack of respect. I feel bad for the nice assistants and desk ladies that have to put up with and take the wrap for the unprofessionalism of the DENTIST THEMSELVES. I should have written a review years ago as I think of our negative experience often. I was recently curious about the reviews and just saw that others have had similar experiences. First of all the office is very kid friendly and the receptionists were very sweet. The hygienists vary in their patience levels with the kids. Dr. Biggs always provided great service for us but one time we had to see Dr. Tingling. My kid is a highly anxious kid but usually does fine. This time she was anxious to be with a different doctor and Dr. Tingling ended up screaming at her to calm down. It was a horrible experience that made her not want to to the dentist anymore. We started avoiding going back and when the receptionist called to ask why we had not been back, I told her what happened and she did not seem surprised. Would not recommend. read more

I took my 3 yr old twin boys to see Dr. Tingling today at Destination Smile. This was their second visit to a pediatric dentist, but their first visit to this office. I was VERY impressed! The boys were not happy initially upon entering the waiting room - and took a while to warm up, but Dr. Tingling was very patient and let them warm up to her in their time. She did a great job building rapport with them. Finally they were willing to go to the exam area, where the boys were allowed to help each other with their cleaning and exams. They did great - and we were able to have a complete cleaning and check up! The best part, it was done with no tears and the boys left smiling and looking forward to their next checkup. The office is spectacular - done up in an airplane theme. The detail and artwork is fantastic and fun - bright and colorful! I can't wait to take them again! read more

Dr. Tingling and the entire staff are exactly what you'd want from a pediatric dentist- friendly, knowledgeable and caring. My toddler chipped her teeth after a bad fall and it was her first experience at the dentist. I was nervous that she wouldn't do well but everyone made her feel comfortable and at ease. I have to say I have been going here for about 5 years, first with son and now that I have my daughter I bring in both. I enjoy this office so much that I still come here though I have moved twice once from Alexandria and now Annandale. It's worth making the trip twice a year for my little ones comfort. My son is 10 and he loves coming here, doesn't mind the wait time (who would when they have video games?) the techs are all very nice and great at reminding them why it's important to brush and floss your teeth. My daughter is 4 and she was very scared the first time but after seeing her brother get cleaned it was a piece of cake getting her to cooperate. The way their entire office is set up is just amazing for kids. There is so much to do and so much to look at that they don't even mind the visit to the dentist. Their machines look like airplanes and with the clouds painted on the walls they look like they are on an airplane ride. TVs so they can watch while getting cleaned! I mean I wish they had dentist like this for adults :) The staff is very cordial from the very first time when you schedule appointments. Any questions you may have they will answer with please. My kids see Dr. Biggs and she is nice to the kids, she's very short but gets the job done quickly and painlessly! We just moved here and I took my 5yo and 2yo in. The kids loved all the toys and puzzles in the waiting room. The initial meet and greet (the first 10 minutes of the appointment) went very well and the dentist was very easy going and made the kids feel at ease. The 5yo had been to a dentist multiple times before so he knew what to expect and did fine. However, it was the very first visit for my 2yo (2.5 to be precise) and I wasn't sure what would happen...but she did amazing! (Of course, part of it is the child's personality, but part of it is also the doctor's demeanor.) I was perfectly happy with our experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. read more

I had been going here for the last 6 years, but the last time i took my youngest daughter sealed the deal for me. Dr. Biggs and the dental assistant were not too friendly. My daughter ate before coming in which was a mistake. To fill her cavities they use a surf board type restraint and wrap her arms and legs in it. It was a horrible experience and there's much better dental offices in the area than this. Dr. Biggs was not nurturing to my daughter throughout the whole process. As well as thinking it was funny and laughing that she possibly had a big lunch before coming in for the visit. The dental assistant who cleaned my oldest daughters teeth was too hard on her teeth and seemed to have an attitude by the look in her eyes and how she was doing her job. I told her she was cleaning with the tools too hard, but it didn't seem to change it. She said she was doing her job and not pressing too hard. Terrible experience. I scheduled an appointment for my 4 children (ages 8 to 3) and had to wait over 25 minutes to even be seen. I was then told that I would have to split my children up 2 at a time, and could not go back with the older 2, even though I was able to stay with all 4 at the same time during our last appointment. I told Dr. Biggs that I was not comfortable leaving my children unaccompanied in the public waiting room while the younger 2 were in the back with me, she told me it was their policy. Their policy was apparently in effect during our last visit yet was never mentioned or enforced, but during today's visit it was impossible to bypass. Dr. Biggs was rude, inconsistent with her policy enforcement, and disrespectful of my decisions as a parent. She refused to allow me to be with all 4 kids at the same time so we had to leave without even being seen. She wasted 2 hours of our time and we will never go back. read more

I have waited to give my review on this facility, and today gave me complete reason to finally make the decision to do so. After moving to the area, military family, I was referred to destination by fellow spouses. I took my teen and toddler almost a year ago for the usual xray & cleaning. Well, as of last month, after calling to inquire about having my teens wisdom teeth removed; they're coming out sideways, I was told they don't do that service on teens. Fine, no problem. Yet being a dental facility you would think they would at least give a reference. But nope..nothing! Since then, I had been calling around for rates until fellow spouses advised me all I needed to do was call destination smile again and request a referral so my daughter could have the wisdom teeth removed, at no cost, at the military hospital here on post or Bethesda. When I called yesterday I advised the staff what I wanted, referral, and was told I'd get a call back the next day; today being that day. 24 hrs passed and I had not heard from the office? I called again, left a message, and advised them that another dental office told me if my child was a patient with them they have no problem getting me that referral to use at the military hospital. It took 10 minutes to hear back from destination. And needless to say I will NEVER refer families, let alone do businesses with them, again. Not only were they trying to push an oral surgeon they use; guessing they get kickbacks, but they were not willing to provide me with the referral to use elsewhere. When I told them that since they aren't willing to work with me, by saying I can only use the oral surgeon they use, that i need them to cancel both my children's pending appointments late july as l will be moving them to another dental facility. At that moment I was placed on hold and another staff member got on the phone. Not only did she have an attitude off the bat, but she became argumentive basically calling me a liar and talking over me saying I never specified what I needed, which I did not only the day before, but today to other staff member and her also. To receive such Horrible service from staff and be treated with such disrespect I'm appauled they tried to think they can talk me into continuing to keep my children's future cleaning and xray appointments. No thank you and no way! All it takes is once to be treated with disrespect to loose my business and also referrals to them, at least, the military community nearby. I have since scheduled an appointment for my daughter at a nearby dental office for tomorrow to have them run xrays and obtain the referral to the military oral surgeon. I have also had no problem scheduling both kids' future dental cleaning/xrays. read more

My children were patients at Destination Smile for about 2 years. We are a military family, and were referred to this office, though this last visit became the straw that broke the camel's back. Needless to say, I had always left the office feeling uneasy. The amount of x-rays that my children received upon each visit always upset me. I felt that it was probably a money making scheme for the office to have multiple x-rays every six months, as once a year was the usual at other dental offices. I spoke up about my concern for the x-rays, though my concerns were always pushed aside. Not only that, but the dental assistants who took the x-rays would have to do multiple x-rays each time on account of their "blurry" shots. The worst incident occurred during a routine cleaning by one of the dental assistants. It was clear that she was just starting out; and following the cleaning, my son came to me with a chip in the center of his teeth, right along the gum line. Looking at the location of the chip, it was 100% clear that this was a mistake made by the assistant cleaning his teeth. I made the staff aware of what happened following the appointment, shocked that it had happened at all! I was told that it was unlikely, but they would be happy to fix his teeth. We returned to have my son's tooth repaired. Checking out, I was told that there would be a fee, and I reminded the staff that my son's tooth was chipped during a visit to this office. I was told that she would speak to the Dr. Biggs and adjust the fee upon her approval. Needless to say, Dr. Biggs did not approve the repair. I was told that there was absolutely no way that his tooth could have become chipped while in their office, despite my telling them what had happened. They refused to take responsibility for something that had clearly happened in their "care". The treatment that I received from Dr. Biggs and her front desk staff was not only disgusting, but completely unacceptable. I would never again refer a single person to this office! read more

My two year old had his first dental appointment today and it couldn't have gone better. My son walked in a little nervous not knowing what to expect and walked out with a big smile on his face saying he couldn't wait to come back. I have 3 children. My oldest is a teenager and my youngest has some special needs. I was hoping to find a nice, dentist and Staff. I felt like we were pushed through. The super young hygentist were not friendly to my sweet daughter. It felt like they wanted to hurry up and go home. I am used to a dentist and hygentist that takes there time and shows them the tools, lets them see the water and suction tools and talks sweet to them. It took forever for my daughter to trust dentists again. This office is deffinantly not what I was looking for. Thank God they had no cavities. My oldest son said that his cleaning was the most painful he has ever had. Not impressed at all. The dentist took 2 seconds to even look in their mouth. The dentists at Destination Smile go out of their way to do yearly dental hygiene education for my sons preschool. It's so cool for my kiddo to see his dentist outside of the office. I would hope that would help him be at ease over the experience. However, my kids both have a natural aversion to dentists and doctors. It could be a perfectly miserable experience. They scream. But, both the dentist and the hygienists at Destination Smile help them to calm down. They're still nervous, but their great staff keeps things relaxed and low key. My kids are happy to be bribed with getting to go to the "tv room" afterwards. Their lobby is pretty cool. But a dentist who knows how to handle my screaming kids is even cooler. Horrible experience. We will never return. And unless you enjoy being rushed by a dentist who is overbooked, consider another provider.Took our son there starting when he was two and half. First time they couldn't get him to open his mouth long enough to do a cleaning. Second time they got the cleaning and X-rays done but the whole appointment felt very rushed by the staff which just made my son feel more uneasy. Third time, six months later, we go it for a cleaning and they claim he has four cavities and needs a root canal. REALLY??? A four year old you have seen twice times in 1.5 years years, who only drinks milk and water, has four cavities and needs a root canal? Give me a break- where you awake during the previous two visits? Did you bother to read the last set of x-rays cause surely there was something there six months ago. Just before Thanksgiving, we schedule the root canal and this is where things get worse. Other parents I spoke to said their dentist offers a pill to relax their children before they take their nervous kids in for a major dental procedure. Not this place - after the fact- I found out they never do it. So my already scared of the dentist child comes in. They stick a needle into his gums with no numbing and he screams for the next five minutes as if he is being tortured. Then, without waiting for the numbing drug to kick in, or asking the patient if the drug has started working, they immediately start drilling his tooth. And the high-pitched screaming cascades throughout the entire shopping center. Never again. Lessons learned with our first dentist visit- do more research when selecting a dentist for your young kids. We may never be able to get him to a dentist again, at least not without a struggle because his first four experiences here were so bad. Good luck in your search. read more

Let me first start by saying the office staff could not have been nicer. They are warm, friendly, and courteous. Very impressed with the colorful waiting room and toys. I had appointments at 12pm for my 3 children, ages 2, 5, and 8. We were seen promptly by the hygienist, and she was done with their individual cleanings by about 12:25. We were then left waiting in the communal cleaning room with the other patients and hygienists. My youngest two children were bouncing off the walls, so at about 12:35 I asked what time she thought the Dentist, Dr. Tingling would see us. The hygienist told me the dentist was doing a filling and our appointment was not until 1pm, at which point I told her it was scheduled for 12pm. Fast forward to finally seeing Dr. Tingling a little after 1pm (after she finished her filling and saw 3 other children), she barely said hello, before informing me they schedule a half hour for each child and that she had heard I was asking about the time, that "that is how they do things and did we have somewhere we needed to be?" I was a little taken aback because I felt like she was chastising me for asking the hygienist how much longer we had to wait. Also, did that mean we could have potentially had to wait until 1:30 to have Dr. Tingling examine the children for their 12pm appointment? Seems like overbooking to me. I told her next time it would be easier to wait in the waiting room with the toys and she responded we could certainly do that. She then spent about a minute examining each child and went on to tell me we could do my 8 year olds sealants, instead of making a new appointment for them. Against, my better judgement I said okay. I noticed she had repeatedly asked my 8 year old, if she was in a better mood today? My daughter is pretty laid back and sweet, so I found this confusing. Then I remembered the last time I brought her she got scared because I left to go to the bathroom when they were doing the sealants and refused to let them do them. That time I felt Dr. Tingling was very understanding and upbeat about it and really appreciated that. This time, they whisked my daughter away (after asking several more times if she was in a better mood?) and the same thing happened, at which point the hygienists trying to perform the procedure seemed totally exasperated and announced to the room "This is what she did last time!" I said I thought it might have gone better if we had not already been waiting so long and the procedure had been explained to my daughter, to which Dr. Tingling responded "It didn't matter last time!" I had wanted to ask about my daughter's need for braces and some other things, but was so tired and taken aback by the way I was being spoken to and the way we were treated in general, that it completely slipped my mind. We walked out and the kind receptionist offered to make us follow up appointments, at which point I explained I wasn't sure we would be coming back. Really disappointed as I thought we had found a great pediatric dentist and did not have this horrible experience the first two times we went there. read more

Horrible experience! Never coming back here. She stuck the needle in my daughter's mouth without enough numbing then when my daughter started crying the dentist started screaming at her which made everything worse. She's a 6 y/o. If you show her and tell her what you're going to do before you start the procedure then numb her gum well before you inject a needle, my daughter wouldn't have cried at all. This is a girl who had fillings at another office before and never complained. It was a very bad experience for my daughter to go to see a dentist again. It all started because I questioned the cleanliness of the tray since the assistant was using bare hands with no gloves to prepare the equipment. Instead of making me feel safe by explaining and changing the floss, the dentist started arguing with me and mistreated my daughter purposely. Horrible place . This was my three year olds 5th time to the dentist since she has been going every 6 months since she was 10 months. I should've known this place was going to be a problem when they told me over the phone they take X-rays as soon as the molars come in. I use to work in a pediatric dental office a few years back and have been in the dental field for 5years. I know doctors don't take x rays on kids younger than 6 unless they feel it is very necessary. I told them over the phone I did not want X-rays taken and that I will be paying out of pocket. They told me they would be sending me the new patient forms by the end of the business day. I didn't get them until two days later but I did get a call from them everyday for about three days before my appointment calling to get my insurance information. On the day of the appointment they still asked me about my insurance and explained to me that they would be taking X-rays . I told them the same thing I told the person on the phone . Then waited 45minutes until we were finally taken to the back and only because I said something about how long it was taking. The hygienist told me they were going to take X-rays again, I told her that I didn't want them. When it was time to do her cleaning my daughter didn't want to sit down by herself I was talking to her just trying to calm her down and the hygienist seemed rushed and told me to just sit with her , put one hand on her forehead and with the other hand grab her arms. No child should be forced down like that. After she cleaned my daughters teeth with REGULAR TOOTHPASTE AND A REGULAR TOOTHBRUSH we waited for the doctor for about 10 mins until I told them I couldn't wait any longer. I left and went to pay and still they wanted me to wait for the doctor so she could do the exam on my daughter. They charged me for "prophy, cleaning, fluoride" roughly around $156 I didn't pay attention until I left so I called back and asked what they charged me for. If anyone knows anything about dental you know a prophy is a short word for prophylaxis . She told me they charged me for a prophy and a cleaning which in their world are two different things. Anywho at the end of the day yes I received a refund but still paid around $75 for a cleaning that was done with a toothbrush. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE OFFICE !! I have worked for top notch dental offices in Del Ray, Tysons , and Woodbridge. And this office just wants your money they do not care about the kids DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME !! read more
