Destination Unknown Brewing was a brewery Steve and I had a little while back. We had two of their beers and one we felt was just fair while another we thought was fairly solid. One of the beers we had was The OCHO, a New England IPA which was just fair in our opinion. There wasn't anything too memorable about it as far as I was concerned. Flavor highlights that I jotted down for this beer is hoppy and juicy. It's also very crushable and light bodied. The other beer that we enjoyed a bit more was the one we liked a bit more. It was called the Gavone which was an Italian Pilsner which is a type of pilsner I am very find of and this one was decent. The highlights to notice with this beer is crisp, clean and dryness. A group of us came here on a Sunday around 12:30 after some time in Hecksher Park 10 minute ride away close and convenient for the ride home. The bartender let us try anything on the board, and one of our friends was part of the Hidden Treasure Secret Society, he got a free flight (https://hiddentreasureli.com/). We were definitely an eclectic crew in terms of drinks and not one person was disappointed. I had the Dub Club 2023 a hazy IPA most delicious. Another a pink looking sour, super sour for my taste but my bestie loved it. No food truck a little disappointing as it listed it on the website and this was literally my first time here in years, what luck with a hangry wife. Needless to say we had 3 and left. After drinking and enjoying DUBCO beers at different bars across the island, I felt it was time to visit the brewery itself. Tucked within a commercial park is DUBO. Parking isn't great but works on the weekends without issue. The outside looks small but inside it is a sizable brewery with the bar right when you walk in, high top tables downstairs, and a sprawling back area. Upstairs there is a tiny balcony which is where we grabbed a table and were able to look down below at the other folks visiting the brewery at that time. They have a ton of different beers to try, including flights. I've always appreciated their "fun" beers and was not disappointed. One bathroom, not a lot of parking, long waits for the bar, all those contributed to knocking down a star. But this remains a great brewery with fun beers and a relaxing place to hang out and enjoy a drink with some friends. read more

Such a solid lineup! Everything was so refreshing and flavorful. I am a sucker for sours, and they had a good selection. I love when breweries have flight options so that you can try a little of everything. Being from FL I had to try their Miami vice inspired beer, which definitely made me feel at home. I also tried the acai beer, passionfruit pavlova, which was my favorite and science of selling watermelon, perfect for a hot summer day. I have come to the point where I have to take away stars. They have become very overpriced compared to the other local breweries. No pint pours, only 14 ounce glasses that are not completely filled (12 to13 ounces), for $5 to $7. You get 16 ounces at other breweries for that price. 32 ounce crowler fills are $13 to $15. Would anyone pay $26 to $30 to fill a 64 ounce growler?? I have been to other Long Island breweries that charge much less. You can get 72 ounces of better, higher ABV beer in a six pack for around $10 or less, just about anywhere else. The beer is still good, it is just not worth the premium price. I enjoy going to all the microbreweries, but I am beginning to think that they are going to price themselves out of business. read more

How is it that I've never been to DUBCO?! It's a cute little brewery tucked away in an industrial area. But obviously lots of people know about this place because it was pretty crowded. They have picnic tables and games and seem to be popular with the hipster crowd and families with little kids and dogs. I don't drink beer but I was here for a friend's birthday party and I liked the vibe very much. On a good weather day, this place is a fun place to just hang out and talk to friends. Based on my husband's review of the beers, he said they were all fairly happy. So, if you don't like hoppy beers, you might have trouble finding some beers that you like. So, two ratings for this place. One, the place itself is in the middle of nowhere in what used to be an industrial part of town, fine, and actually kind of cool, I can dig that. The problem is that the crowd this place has started to draw in is not what or who I want to be around. I'm a huge fan of Dubco Acres up in Warwick, so I was extremely excited to come check out their original spot in Bay Shore. The beer was still delicious, and overall, the space was extremely nice, there were a few things that I found disappointing. First off, the heat inside was blasting. We went on a fall day where the temperature outside was 70 degrees, but the heat inside was still on full blast. Our whole party was uncomfortable. The 2nd issue was the flies. We originally sat in the back of the brewery, where the heat wasn't as bad, but we had to move because there were flies everywhere. Despite these issues, the bartender was extremely friendly, and the beer, as previously mentioned, is always excellent. They also had a delicious Vietnamese food truck on-site for the day, and that was incredible. I'll go back, but hopefully on a cooler day when the heat won't be as oppressive, and the flies won't be as plentiful. read more

It's always nice to hear about a new brewery on the island as I'm a huge supporter of drinking local. So yesterday, once done with lunch with my girlfriend and one of my buddies in Bay Shore, we forwent the possibility of cruising over to Great South Bay to give Dubco a try (and a taste). Destination Unknown Brewing Company is off the beaten path a bit as it lays amongst a building of old storefronts, but driving up the road you'll spot the large compass logo and flag out front. The set up is a combination of laid back and intimate with a nice bar, some high tops, a small booth-esque area, and some picnic tables if you wanted to take in the sun with your suds. Plenty of Sublime played as we sat there, mellowing us out on a sunny day. At a new brewery, I almost always tackle a flight as it'll give you the best bang for your buck. With six beers on tap, the flight set me up with my choice of four for $10. The bartender was knowledgable about the brews and explained a little about each style. I went with the Beach Chair, Sore Thumb, Sonar, and For Shore which was a collaboration with Sand City Brewery. Writing this review a day later, I can't say I distinctly remember the taste of 2/4 of the beers (Beach Chair and For Shore). What did stick out were the Sonar for its barrel aged flavor and notes closely resembling a white wine, and Sore Thumb as it was a double IPA packed with a good punch of hoppy bitterness. These two would be something I would tackle in pint form in the future. Overall, Dubco seems like a promising, new LI brewery and one I would gladly return to in hopes of trying some other decent brews. read more

What a great little hole in the wall brewery. In a industrial building next to a bakery (man the smells were great). The bartender was extremely friendly and the beers are solid. I really enjoyed the ALTernate Method, a German alt bier. The mocha red eye Stout is nuts too, and if you like sours the FUZZY FLAMINGO is great (raspberry peach sour). I would rate Destination Unknown four and a half stars. I had their Quadruppel Rainbow. It was deep and flavorful Belgian ale with a high ABV. It was super boozy. It had sweet and floral notes with a rich body. It was on par with many of the Belgian style beers I've had from Allagash and Ommegang. It seemed like their flagship beer was their Sore Thumb. They must have a ton of this beer canned and ready to go on palettes. They have at least a dozen board games including Jenga, Trouble, Sorry, Battleship and more. Destination Unknown also has some bunches out front, so patrons can sit outside on nice days. read more

East Bay Shore. Aka DUBCO dog friendly. I saw a Cavalier King George, black lab, mug, chiwawas! Small one long table and about 20 seats at the bar., with an upstairs balcony. There is a garage door that pulls up in the nice weather. Activities like game nite and music on weekends. The beer- they were low on their own beer, but hade 4 "guest beers" like sand city. That's what we had. They sold some sweatshirts and snacks, no hot food. You can bring your own, or delivery. read more

Since I work right around the corner from this place, I decided to go here after my office closed. We got there right after a beer yoga event had finished up and grabbed a high table by the bar. Justin M and I shared a flight to get a taste of what beers they had (get it??) and were pleasantly surprised. The Dominick was our favorite, the passion fruit was delicious in it followed by that IPA bite at the end. There was another IPA that we weren't too impressed with but the brown ale and the dubbel rainbow were also delicious. The bar is in this industrial zone and is a little hard to find as per the name. While we sipped our beers we had entertainment as well! They've got board games and after I kicked Justin's butt in connect 4, we watched the islanders game (boo) on the giant projection screen that they have. There's an upstairs part of the bar that's kind of like a loft and overlooks the bar downstairs so it's got a nice open area. There's no food at the bar besides a popcorn machine but I heard that they have food trucks that come in the evenings and that you can bring/order food to the bar. Overall I loved this brewery and their beers, it was a friendly environment and I will love to come back since I work so close to this place so maybe I'll become a regular! :) read more

I am kind of surprised I like this place as much as I did! I am critical when it comes to breweries considering I go to so many so when my girlfriend told me about this new place opening up I was shocked. We came at 1:30 on a Saturday (check their hours on the website, very odd hours) and the placed was popping! They just had beer and yoga upstairs so there were plenty of people who stayed after for a drink. We managed to get a high table but we noticed as more customers came in space became an issue. Upstairs they have some benches and I have heard in the summer they move them outside and lift open the large garage door to create an open space. The bartenders are great here very attentive. The beer list is limited but great quality. I loved the passion fruit IPA, hope they decided to bottle that. Again the place is starting up so small selection is expected. We stared with a flight of four 5 ounce pours for $10 which is the right price for a flight. They have 14 ounce pours for between $5-6 which is the correct price for a brewery. I'm so tired of breweries charging bar prices ($8-9) a beer at the brewery! This place does it right. They have a popcorn machine as well plus a couple board games to keep you entertained. Also, they have a projector set up on the back wall and had the islander game on which kept us hockey fans there longer. Overall, this place is straight out of Brooklyn with the beer and environment. Space is going to be their biggest problem because more people will find out about Destination Unknown and the great beer they make. read more

This brewery has a nice tasting room that is gradually growing to meet it's potential as more people discover -- they discover "Destination Unknown"? That's confusing, I need a beer. Whatever, that's not important. Inside, it's typical brewery (bare industrial) with lots of finished wood to soften it up. It's basically the kind of place that makes the kind of guy like me feel right at home - whatever that means. There's a few tables and stools, as well as an upstairs which is (as of my last visit) still mostly off-limits. The big bar (with stools in front) houses the taps and a double chalkboard of what is being offered (along with standard information like ABV and what sizes they're available in). There were about 6 beers on tap (I think they had room for more on the board), and they also have a rotating "guest brewer" tap which was explained to me as a way to keep the craft culture alive on Long Island by expanding the availability of further-flung (yet still "local") breweries into more areas. Over the summer, a Moustache (out of Riverhead) keg was on tap and it was especially nice to be able to pick up a growler there instead of driving all the way out to Long Island's cloaca for it. As a "farm" brewery they have to get a certain percentage of their ingredients from New York, so you know that buying beer here is definitely helping someone in your state*. I love supporting New York, it's my natal state! (WORD OF THE DAY ALERT) There's really not any place to get food here on the regs, so stock up at a deli or order a pizza delivered or something (probably don't get spaghetti, that'd be weird). Popcorn is available, and they also sell Beer Soap in case you were wondering "does this place sell beer soap?" Yup, yup they do. Destination Unknown: Best Beer Soap in Bay Shore (Also, VERY good beer - I enjoy the Dubbel Rainbow and I can barely stand Belgians.. Probably my inner-German at work) *as long as your state is at least 20% NY. I guess the other 49 states can share that measly 80% remainder of the ingredients** ** that sounds snarky, I really do like the idea of incentives for locally produced stuff like the Farm Brewery law does. I was looking forward to visiting this place so much, and had such high expectations of the beer, that I was ultimately let down. Destinations Unknown is the most appropriate name for this place since it nestled in an industrial area and there's no sign on the door (the food truck gave it away). Inside was a decent size but there was a beer bus tour there as well which made finding a seat and getting a beer a bit difficult. While half of my group managed to wrangle a table, a couple of us went up and got some beers. They didn't have a large selection style wise on tap, so I actually ended up with their guest beer (Jalepeno Rye from Big Alice in LIC). A couple of my friends tried the White IPA which they liked, and we also tried the Amber Ale...and that was hard to get through. Pros of this place: it is really nice inside with all of the wood finishing, they have a ring toss game, and free popcorn. Cons: I've had better. Will I be back? This was my first time here! It is in the cut, I would have never knew it existed if I was introduced. Everything is currently outside due to COVID. They have tents and tables are socially distanced. They have live music and performers were actually good. Would prefer just music from a playlist or such (just a personal preference) You have to go inside to get your drinks.
