I'm really sad as I was hoping to enjoy this place expecting a high-end spa/massage experience (especially at this price point). Unfortunately this was a complete miss. There really aren't any spa amenities and the locker room is a bit grungy. Once you get to the co-ed communal area, it has some tea and water where you wait for your masseur or masseuse. It was a little too warm and unfortunately my masseuse was late (still setting up the room). Once in the room, the masseuse didn't communicate, not even asking if there was anywhere I wanted to focus on or if I was comfortable. This led to the massage being not great. I had to keep asking for more pressure and the most pressure provided was actually on my feet rather than anywhere else. I also hated that she went from my feet then straight to massaging my face and head! It was more of an uncomfortable experience rather than enjoyable. Came across this little gem when my girlfriend and I were staying the night in DTLA. We wanted to get a massage somewhere and surprisingly we didn't find that many spas except this one. We thought it was a little odd that it's in the Westin hotel. Once you enter, there's a women's locked room equipped with lockers, showers and saunas. Once you change into your robes you go to the waiting room where there's tea and water while you wait. Our masseuse greeted us and brought us into our private room. I forgot the name of my masseuse but omg was she strong! My massage actually ended up being amazing! I came here on a Sunday morning in late August 2022 for a deep tissue massage. There was a farmer's market in the front but because it was a weekend, I found street parking super easy. The metered parking is all free on Sundays and there were plenty of yellow curb parking. Even though walking into the building and down into the basement felt pretty sketchy in dtla, once you get inside they offer you water or tea and a robe. They had me waiting in the relaxation room, which is another cozy waiting room deeper into the facility. I finished my water and waited until a couple of minutes past my appointment time before my masseuse introduced herself. The massage I got on ClassPass was for 50 minutes (33 credits [a little of $2 per credit]) long and Emma gave did exactly 53 minutes for me. She did an incredible job and actually knew what she was doing. I came in with a lot of pain on my back, neck (to the point where I had limited range of motion when turning my neck), and knee and came out with it tremendously reduced. She gave me my range of motion back! Not only did she knew how to fix my pain, but she even gave me suggestions for how to improve upon the pain I was having. I'm so glad I found her! Since a normal deep tissue there was $125, I tipped her 15% of $125 using my credit card. The front desk told me that if i wanted book her again through ClassPass, that I'd have to call and schedule her before I booked. I will definitely be doing that. read more

I wanted to take a shower before my massage. Desk saw I had been there before and let me shower before my massage. A big thank-you for this. My massage therapist, Sarah was behind schedule. My appointment started 15-minutes late. Sarah's touch was just ok. Sarah however started to knead my left arm, which has a port on the upper arm. I asked her not to touch that part of my arm. She ignored me. Massage ended 5 minutes early and Sarah turned on the lights full blast as she left the room, I did not get a chance to relax after just an "ok massage." I like this spa, but warn customers not to book Sarah, she could really hurt someone. Also don't book thru class pass. She really gave me the massage my body needed versus the typical massage where they've preplanned how long to spend on each area. Plus the bed is heated, but only thing is that it might be a little too hot. Parking is a little difficult depending on when you go. I am not a fan of writing negative reviews - however, I want to simply share my experience as a cautionary one for others who may be in similar situations. I called in and came in for a massage after about 6 months of shoulder rehab and recovery post-injury working with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. I had made significant improvements and communicated sensitivity and limited range of motion prior to treatment which I wanted to work through with more in-depth mobilization, but unfortunately, the treatment was far more aggressive than expected. I was told in two days, things would be good and was assured from the therapist they had 10 years of experience, there was no injury and it was just massage/stretching that was needed (even though I mentioned I had seen a DPT and there was immense restriction initially and there was definitely an injury that took place). Instead of carefully working within my tolerance, significant pressure and forced range were aggressively applied to already-irritated areas based on the massage therapist's belief that it would "fix" the issue. While I know recovery takes time, the following days I experienced instability with a flare-up of symptoms that hadn't bothered me for a long time which felt like it set back my rehab progress. I was told "if I feel pain now, I won't feel pain later," and when I expressed pain, I was called a "crybaby" from the therapist while she continued to put significant stress on the restricted areas. I have had many deep tissue massages in the past, and in many ways do enjoy the "pain" that comes from deep tissue work. However, I found that this location did not meet expectations when it came to really communicating and working with mobilizing an area post-injury at a level of tolerance that was in line with my current recovery. There was really no assessment of range restriction and communication could have been significantly improved in regards to working with my current range and recovery progress. I come from a highly educated background in fitness as an athlete, trainer and degree with applied physiology emphasis and expected more care and communication given my communicated recovery status. A massage from this location may be fine for general tension relief, but I'd advise others with injuries or chronic issues seeking mobilization to approach with caution and seek professional help from those who may be more qualified for rehabilitation work post-injury. P.S. Be wary of hidden fees - it was not clear to me that parking was $10 additional and that service fees were automatically added at 20% on top of the quoted charges read more

Definitely needed after sitting so long in front of my laptop, at my desk, slowly contorting myself into a shrimp. The individual managing their Instagram and social media were super helpful and friendly with setting up my appointment. I parked at the structure near Grand Central Market and I was able to find Desuar Spa within a block or 2, not too far. It's insane, you take an elevator down to the basement and you are instantly teleported to a Nirvana-like oasis. Relaxing ambience, low lights, and some metaphysical aesthetic. Loved it. They check your temperature before entering, there are booties you wear over your shoes, and you have to fill out a waiver too. All staff are wearing masks the entire time and social distancing is strictly enforced. Felt very safe the entire time. LUZ IS THE ABSOLUTE GOAT. It was my first time getting a massage in such a way and she patiently walked me through all the steps and made sure to check up if the pressure was too light or too much. Very relaxing experience and I felt all the knots worked out from around my neck, shoulders, and the base of my head. I also got the CBD oil under my tongue before the experience and was offered water (there's the option for champagne too, but since I was driving by myself, I opted out). Definitely felt relaxed and almost like a slug afterwards with how moisturized I was. It was a Swedish full body massage and when they say full body, they aren't lying. Although I booked a Swedish massage, she provided a combination of deep tissue and Swedish that really worked out all of my knots. She even stretched out my back, which felt phenomenal. I really enjoyed my experience here and I plan to return. I purchased a gift card for a couples massage and facial for my fiancé's birthday. Neither of us had been here before, but the reviews were good and I liked that this spa is owned by a woman of color. We chose the downtown location, but I'd be interested in Silver Lake, too. We chose this location because we thought there would be relaxation rooms. But the owner mentioned that they have closed most (maybe all?) due to COVID. I was still able to enjoy the sauna for a bit in the women's locker room. Upon arrival, you check in. They bring you to the appropriate locker room and give you sandals and a cozy robe. You can shower after your service. I met my fiancé in the back room and we got 30 minute massages and 30 minute facials. The massage felt short, so I would recommend booking a full hour. Both services were great. My skin felt very soft and had a beautiful glow following my facial. They brought us some champagne after our services. All of the staff was friendly. This couples massage experience was a real mixed bag. First off, the good: the therapists were fantastic, sensitive, and responsive to our requests. We loved the offers of free tea, water, and champagne. The middle: the facilities were okay. The men's shower had low water pressure and it never really got hot, but it was also cozy in its own way. It would've been nice if there was a sauna or something to relax in after the massage. The bad: We got this massage through a Groupon. There were no restrictions on the Groupon istelf, but when I went to reserve our appointment, I had to argue with the person on the phone who said that while we weren't allowed to use the Groupon on the weekend, they'd allow it if we called the week of the reservation. That week happened to be incredibly stressful for me, but I called in because it was our only opportunity, had to argue with another person on the phone, finally got our appointment reserved, only to have it changed the day before to a different time - because we were using a Groupon. It didn't feel great to be treated like a second-class citizen and I don't care what the owner's intention is, but if the Groupon doesn't have restrictions on it, it doesn't have restrictions. Overall its a pretty solid place. I was a little unnerved on arrival as we walked from our DTLA hotel (Im a city girl coming from SF so we know how downtowns get) and with the proximity to the pershing square station know its in a really seedy area, in a basement. Youre basically walking through a small drug market. Not a great first impression. However the spa area itself is quite cute. All the staff was lovely and I always appreciate a yummy welcome beverage of champagne! Massages were both good and the room and linens felt clean. The blanket they cover you with is cozy and a great weight too. Only complaint is the ceiling is quite thin, and you can hear people rolling things around upstairs many times throughout the massage but overall they had cute facilities, a few snack and drink options so cant fault them too much! I booked a Deep Tissue Massage through ClassPass and was highly disappointed. So much so in fact that I terminated the session early. I asked the masseuse multiple times to increase the pressure to no avail. It felt like I spent 35 minutes being lathered in oil all over my body with very little pressure. To be fair, my partner had a wonderful experience, hence the two stars, so the service seems to be "hit or miss" based on your assigned masseuse. Had management been more understanding of my situation, I would have definitely considered coming for a future visit.
