Detour Coffee promises to be one of the best go-to coffee spots in central to northern Arlington. It's coffee come closes to matching the quality of Northside Social, while it's internal seating area is much more comfortable and amicable. In its current location, it can be easy to miss; however, I was led here based on a recommendation from a friend. Detour's staff were extremely friendly and amicable, even on a very early Saturday morning, and their service have won multiple return trips from me. read more

This place is simply amazing. You walk in, and immediately, a blast of warmth from their fire (literal, not figure of speech) really takes away the chill of winter. Then as you try to take in the splendor of this wonderful cafe, the staff engages you to help you find what suits you best. You take a deep breath and make your order. Quick and dirty review of the essentials of this coffee dispensary: they have working Wifi, fair prices, and free parking! That alone sets this place above the norm of the downtown Arlington area, but there are a few other qualities of this place that has made it my go-to for Saturday and Sunday afternoons over the past few weeks. 1) Layout. They have a variety of seating arrangements from booths to community tables to lounge chairs, something to satisfy just about anyone (and the chairs are actually comfortable for a long day of sitting). 2) Atmosphere. It's pretty much perfect. The music is good, I usually have to put headphones in to focus but the playlists are of a good variety of music that I enjoy listening and know that I can always switch to headphones if I need to buckle down. The location also allows for a good amount of foot traffic--some people come in for dates or studying while others stop by for a quick cup of joe. Just the right amount of movement without it being distracting. 3) Food. It's unique. I've gotten breakfast sandwiches and also more snacky food like pita and hummus and have enjoyed everything I've had so far. 4) People. The owners and employees are all super nice and have all made a point to say hello to me when I walk in, it's super inviting and cozy. Good quality people = a great environment, so I think they've got this part nailed down. This is my first Yelp review and I'm happy it's going toward such a great place. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with a CHIVITO Sandwich !!! I went to this place because a friend of mine, recommended it since they have a special sandwich called CHIVITO, which is a typical sandwich from my country and South America. I invited a friend to taste it and we went. The place is great but the sandwich, and the person who was in charge of the register and service, was HORRIBLE, he never pay attention to what I was telling him. It supposed to be a hot tender steak on bread with lettuce, tomato, mayo, mozzarella cheese, mushroom, red peepers, ham, bacon and egg. On our CHIVITOS, it was only a cold sandwich with lettuce, one of them no tomato, cheese, but not mozzarella, the rest did not have anything else.and the rest was missing. The meat which supposed to be tender and hot, it was cold and hard to eat, made it before and put in the freezer, dry, like the meat was grilled before but burn. BAD Experience, since everything is on the menu, but not in the sandwich. We spoke with the person in charge at that Saturday at 7 pm, but he did not care at all, when we told him, he first blame it on the cooker, he said he was new, when we ask him to talk to him, he said he was busy cooking for the upstairs hookah lounge, when we ask him to get a refund, since it was a rip off, and we did not eat it and paid $16, he said he had closed the register and he told me leave my name a tel number on a piece of paper and that the manager will call me next day. This was 3 week ago, no one call me yet !! The worst CHIVITO sandwich I ever had!! read more

Detour coffee has one of the best workspaces I've seen in Arlington! The food and coffee complements it as well; you really can't go wrong with anything you order. I love all the pastries they receive fresh daily from a local bakery and the beef empanadas are my absolute favorite!! If you want a break from the busy Northside Social cafe down the street come here for a more peaceful, spacious cafe!! The staff is also SO hospitable and genuine. Really, really like this place. Great food - I'm partial to the egg dishes - and people but they somehow refuse to bus/clean tables. I've been here on busy days when people are stacked up waiting for clean tables. Servers move past dirty tables to deliver food, ignoring pleas from customers to clear space. Just now, I asked the server to clean up a table that has obviously been abandoned - dirty dishes, napkins crumpled - and she said I could sit elsewhere. read more

This coffee shop should be rated higher! Definitely a neighborhood gem. It's a lot better than a Starbucks or Northside Social. Way less crowded, coffee (Vigilante coffee!) and food were great. Free WiFi. Not too loud. Plenty of seating. Music was cool. I ate the Magician which was a delicious egg avocado arepa and had a dirty chai latte with almond milk. Yum! They serve wine and have some great vegetarian options, as well as, delicious looking Mediterranean sandwiches (with meat). I would definitely come back here. The people working here are nice also. They did a cool job decorating. Its located on the bottom floor of Darna next to a Jiffy Lube. The Detour Coffee sign wasn't hanging when I came by so don't walk past it! read more

We love this place! The food is excellent, much better than you would expect from a coffee shop. The coffee is comparable to other local spots like Northside, but the atmosphere is much more pleasant and less chaotic. And perhaps most noteworthy is the friendliness of the staff. The place is very cozy to study read or just have a chat with someone. The coffee is amazing and really good taste (if you are into real coffee and not sweet type of ice cream coffees, although i did order that type, they might have it). The service is also very good, while you're sitting down they will stop to see if everything is ok or if you want a glass of water or anything else. Highly recommended !!!! Great place. Cozy vibe, fast internet, and coffee is excellent. Service was very friendly. Had lunch a few times and it's definitely a step up from your normal coffee spot food. My coffee was completely burnt and the interior decor looked halfway between a remodel and a plaster of decorations because they don't know if they're going to stay or not. Fantastic service and product. Vigilante coffee is on point and plenty of seating. The vibe for the most part is cozy and clean. However, the hashtags on the seats and watercolors are downright cheesy and tacky. Pick one vibe and stick with it. read more
