We had a snowstorm and while essential businesses closed (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc), Northside opened their doors and was one of the only places to get coffee and food in all of Arlington. Their employees were kind, welcoming, and happy to serve. I commend Northside Social. They showed up to feed and serve their community. This is what running a successful business looks like. Came on a Saturday morning - super crowded but there's a good amount of seating both indoor and outdoor so we found a spot outside pretty easily. You order via QR code - I got a latte and its was honestly terrible. A very bitter gasoline type taste. I ended up not drinking most of it and it was pretty expensive even for the area. ~$7 for a 16oz (a medium) that was ~$9 after tax and tip. One of my favorite coffee shops in Arlington....if you can find a seat. Great for a social coffee house, but not the best spot to work. It gets noisy in there. The coffee is good, and they have plenty of milk options. They have a large breakfast sandwich selection and many can be made gluten free. Gluten free and vegan pastry options, which is tough to find in Arlington. The staff is always smiling. Every one I've encountered is very nice. read more

We came here after the board room was closed since we planned a board game night with friends. Scrambling to find a place, we stumbled upon this cafe since they had live music in the evening. We saw tables large enough to set up our board games and decided to stay. I'm so glad we found this place because they have some of the best grilled cheese I've ever had. I got the Italian feather loaf bread and mozzarella/gruyere combo for my grilled cheese and a side of potato salad. I don't have pictures since I finished my food so quickly. They also have $5 mimosas which we kept ordering and their beers were between $7-$10. Their bathrooms were also very clean at the end of the night too which I appreciated. This is one of my go to post run lunch spots. They all this place the social coffee and wine, and it really fits the bill as a social gathering hub. I just really like the energy. It might be because it remind me of dining halls or cafeterias - in a good way. I will say parking here is really difficult because it always seems so busy. I think lots of folks have the same idea because we came after a race this time, and I saw lots of folks with the same participation Me and my friend got the BLT burger, and he did notice that I got noticeably more bacon than him. This is my favorite coffee shop in Arlington! They offer plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I especially enjoy sitting outside at their picnic tables. Their coffee is top notch - they make a delicious latte! I especially appreciate the artistic skill of the baristas who work here. I did a quick takeout order for a weekday breakfast and I really wish I'd have had time to sit and eat! The options were all exceptional looking but I ended up with the sugar plum latte and avocado toast and both were some of the best I've ever had. The team was super busy, but was able to get my order out really quick; they were on top of it! My avocado toast was amazing mostly because it included a lot of greens and the poached egg had just the right texture. I also ended up with a cookie, those pastries were so enticing and there were so many options! My daughter and SIL 2B just moved to Arlington, VA and by good fortune are very close to this establishment. We sat outside bcuz we were walking their lab and there is a water bowl for your pup. Coffees, breakfast sandwich, and blueberry scone were all excellent. The scone was loaded with delicious blueberries. Nice breakfast menu choices and I went for the special of the day egg sandwich. A classic. Great coffee and breakfast, nice wine and small bites in the evening. They often have music on Friday evenings which I love (might just be a summer thing). I dream of their earl grey scone. The biscuit sandwich with ham, arugula, and apricot jam is also fantastic. Definitely lively and can get noisy on the weekends, but if you're okay with noise it's not usually /too/ hard to find a table if you want to read a book or study. I wouldn't recommend their matcha latte. They do a lot of stuff really well, but don't think this one is their strong suit. read more

Returned after a year and it was not as good. The coffee had a bitter after taste making it not as enjoyable. The milk was textured well so it wasn't too hot or any other reason it might be bitter. Can only assume the counter culture beans are different in some way. read more

I stopped by here to grab a quick brunch to catch up with a friend. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with egg and bacon, and my friend ordered the avocado toast. I also ordered one of the seasonal lattes, and my friend had a chai tea. Both of our drinks were really excellent, and they were fast to come out. The food took a while to be made, and there were a few issues with the ringer, but we were happy to get the food eventually. Overall, I thought my breakfast sandwich was just OK. I wish that there were more sauce and filling, and overall the sandwich was on the dryer side. My friend enjoyed the salad that accompanied her avocado toast, but overall felt like the toast could've been warmer, and by the time she got the second piece of avocado toast it was a bit soggy. Overall, the ambience of the place is really cute, classic community, coffee shop, with decent, but not remarkable breakfast food. I've tried almost every breakfast and bakery spot in the Ballston-Clarendon area, and this has to be my favorite! The coffee always hits, and the pastries are incredible. There's a reason this place is always packed! I love the cozy, homey feel here and cant wait to make use of their patio this spring/summer! This place was super crowded when I came on a Sunday morning but the line moved quickly and I got my food and coffee in 5-10 minutes which was awesome! There's a ton of outdoor seating and a few seats indoors but I chose to take my sandwich to go. I got a decaf americano and it was great. A lot of times they're on the water side since they're just espresso and water but they nailed it and it was the perfect strength. My breakfast sandwich was just so-so though which was disappointing. It had bacon, a poached egg, greens, and white cheddar (+$1.50) for the cheddar though). All the ingredients tasted pretty good but it didn't have a sauce so it was all around just a little dry. They have delicious iced tea. They're hot. Tea is served way too hot! Ask for a side of ice unless you want to burn your face off! Their coffee is OK but doesn't have a high caffeine level unfortunately. Their food is delicious, they have good salad sandwiches and chicken pot pie and pastries. The bathroom is dirty, if you sit in the back, you can kind of smell it, which is gross, especially in the summer because they have poor air conditioning. I've been to Northside a couple of times before and haven't had a bad experience except this time around. My husband and I ordered a green tea and a chocolate croissant to dine in. The employee asked if it was okay to put the tea in a to go cup because they didn't have any clean tea filters and mugs for dine in. I said no problem but I would like to sit down and eat the croissant. Another employee proceeded to give me the croissant in a bag even though I had already asked for a plate 3 times. I decided to just stay and eat it as I was waiting for a friend. I then saw another customer order a tea after us for dine in as well and he was served in a tea filter and a mug, the same customer was also served his pastry on a plate. This left me with a bad impression from the staff. The place was not very busy and it is a great place to hang out but I am not sure if I will go back again. read more

Coffee is okay, but good enough. Espresso is very passable, I recommend lattes only. They also have happy hour for wine, which is great! Service is pretty quick, unless it's packed. If it's nice weather outside during weekends, seating can be difficult to find. Overall food is 3/5, drinks are 3/5, but the location is excellent and space for work and meetings make this place hard to beat. The outdoor space consists of benches and stand alone tables. It's dog friendly as well. We went outside with our buzzers and the buzzer rang right as I snagged a table, which was crazy fast service, especially since they were decently busy. I ordered the smoked salmon and poached egg sandwich. It also had arugula and cream cheese. It was really tasty, and the egg was perfectly cooked. I also got the raspberry lemonade which was so refreshing and perfectly tart. The only downside was the sandwich was a little on the small side, so if you're really hungry, you may want to order a side or a pastry in addition. As it was lunchtime, there was a line, but it seemed to go quickly, maybe also since we were chatting in line. There are tables inside with another room in the back and upstairs. We opted to sit outside since it was a fairly nice day. They give pagers out to let you know when your food is ready to come pick up. My really enjoyed my salad. I was happy with the salmon portion. And the greens were fresh and I loved the texture the bits of black sesame seeds added to the salad. And there wasn't too much as to overwhelm it. I so enjoyed it that I considered purchasing some and adding them to my future salads I make at home. The dressing was bright and flavorful. It wasn't too heavy or greasy tasing. Loved the slices of radishes, too. My friend ordered the Salmon burger/sandwich. It also looked very good and he was happy with it. The cappuccino was standard. Nothing to complain about. I took the chocolate chip cookie to go, but also enjoyed it. Service was friendly enough. It took a while for them to page us for our food, but we were busy catching up so it was tolerable.
