My wife and I really enjoy this place. It's a bit off the beaten path of traditional Ferndale-Woodward corridor which is a benefit in my opinion. During the warmer months, not only do they have their full menu and interior seating restaurant/bar but we love the patio! It's a great way to soak up some sun, enjoy the food trucks that operate on the patio, and enjoy a good cocktail outdoors. The staff is nice and the patio is super dog friendly for all of you dog owners out there! During the colder months, the patio isn't an option but their extensive list of craft cocktails, beers, and delicious food are sure to please anyone. Parking can be a challenge for those driving in as their actual lot is fairly small. You can park right behind on the street over though. All in all a great spot with good food and drinks, good service, and an awesome patio experience to enjoy during the warmer months! read more

Wish my experience had been like other reviews I read before going here for the first time - fun and cool, but it turned out differently than expected. Overall, there's a cool vibe and it's a cute spot - the kind of place I really like. There are seating options indoors and out and we were seated quickly - that was good. Then the trouble started. We were pointed to the QR code on the table for menus. QR code did not work. After 10 or 15 minutes, including a couple of employees walking by offering instructions (but never offering to verbally tell us what might be available to drink or eat or even offering water), finally one of them told us they had been experiencing trouble with their system. She said most likely it was them, not us and she was rebooting the server. Good to know, but I just wanted a drink! About that time the friend we were meeting, a repeat customer, arrived and saw the trouble. She asked for disposable paper menus, which they quickly delivered and soon our orders were going! I'm just going to leave it at that! You can figure out what kind of customer service that was. There were a couple of other encounters with staff and servers that I would classify as not being guest-friendly. Not only me, but others at our table commented on snarkiness. We did have drinks and food. There were lots of fun options and everything tased good but nothing could quite cover that sour taste I had in my mouth from the way the evening started. read more

This place was incredibly cool, loved it! They've got an inside/outside setup with a large dog-friendly patio and stand heaters for when it cooled down a bit as it got later. Staff was super friendly and asked if they could get my dog some water several times throughout our stay. The setup was also very easy to handle, with a QR code on the table that you could use to order directly from your smart phone or a drink truck outdoors that you could order at as well. We ordered from the website and had our drinks within 2-3 minutes each time, and food came out fast as well. The pineapple margarita was delish! For food, we got some chips and guac/queso/salsa and the pretzel sticks to share. The pretzel sticks were so good! Went with the bang bang shrimp tacos for dinner and they were solidly good - not great, but good flavor. I've been to Fleat a few times now. I was crazy excited when they were opening in Ferndale - not right downtown, but still within spitting distance of home. I often fantasize about quitting my job and opening a margarita truck, but that's a different story. And honestly, while I like Fleat, it's not normally my first choice for dinner. Here's the breakdown: The good: there's a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating. They have 3 regular food trucks (the Mac Shack, Delectabowls, and Pita Post - they are there all of the time. I have had food from each of them. They were all solid - good food but nothing too mind blowing. Dinner runs between $12-$15, depending on what you get, of course. Last night, they had a guest truck - Detroit BBQ - and remember what I said about the food not being anything special? They proved me wrong last night. I had pulled chicken on top of macaroni and cheese. Every bite was amazing. They gave me more than a generous portion and I ate the whole damn thing. My date got the ribs, which were also delicious. Fleat has a great drink menu. I've had lots of boozy, fantastic treats, as well as craft beers. The bad: not much. They can get crowded - like any other place that's popular. Came here today and was not impressed. Don't get me wrong, the service was great! But the food was subpar. I thought that the portion to price ratio wasn't fair and on top of that our food was cold :( my sausage and shrimp in the creole bowl was cold while the rice was warm. The sliders were also just 'eh', but I will give them credit for their chicken taco! Those were delicious! I truly love the atmosphere here, and the fact the patio is dog-friendly despite some pet owners being more mindful than others. No one likes not being able to have a conversation directly across a table throughout the duration of your stay due to owners ignoring incessant barking of their own pet. That's not why I rate it a three star though... The parking, for starters, is limited and extremely tight which is best suited for smaller vehicles. Our first time here we hit all the food trucks. The food from the Pita Post was amazing (big fan of the falafel) while what I ordered from the Delectabowl truck was bland and left much to the imagination....of what else I should have ordered in lieu. The rotating truck that day had desserts so I opted for raw cookie dough over the baked cookie, and it definitely suited the kid in me. Our last visit, we ordered from the menu instead of the trucks- tacos that compare to those at Imperial, and mini chicken sandwiches. Food- awesome. Service- not so much. Our girl was pretty much everywhere with the exception of our table. After having the tacos dropped off- which did have a lot of grease- she asked if I wanted cutlery and I just had to look at her for a minute like....No, why would I? I am only eating after all. So I had to sit and look at my tacos while she took the clearly scenic route to get silverware and return. Then, unsurprisingly, she pulled a Houdini and didn't show until the bill was dropped off. Went here for trivia on a Wednesday with a group of friends. The first time I came here we basically couldn't get in because you needed reservations. This time I used the Yelp app to secure reservations. The owner responded promptly and put me on the books. This place is eclectic in layout and style- very casual. The bar is the centerpiece and in the winter the doors are all shut up as food trucks largely not available. My friend remarked the seats were rather uncomfortable and they were/are- they are metal. I ordered an array of different stuff (to share) and over ordered easily. Among that- queso and chips(bit of a kick), chicken legs (4 whole ones- great to share- got the spicy seasoning rub and it was! And good), fried avocado tacos (tasty). Annnd maybe a few beers. Good selection of beers - had a blood orange beer (also very good). Trivia is two rounds- all the usual stuff. Happily somehow we came in second due to a nice big bet of points at the end . It would have been nice to have question displayed during trivia but doesn't appear that they are set up for that. We didn't realize this, so when we arrived over an hour early, all of the indoor tables were reserved (even though the parties did not show up until much later). The hostess told us we would still be able to play from outdoors, but once the trivia host started talking it was apparent that this was not the case. There was no way we could hear the questions from where we were seated, so we left soon after. The concept is cool and the drinks were decent but the food was nothing impressive. Disclaimer right from the start, this place is much more enjoyable in the summer months. I've been back over the winter, and while it's still a great place to check out, it can get a little drafty and there's no heaters for outdoor seating. I first stopped by about a week after they opened. I work just down 9 Mile, but made the mistake of trying to drive down here and park. The lot is tiny, and if the weather is anywhere near decent or it's after 3PM, it's almost impossible to park here. If you do find a spot to park, or respectfully park elsewhere, it's usually not more than a 15 minute wait for seating. We were seated within 10 minutes the first time, and ordered a some stuff off the in house menu as well as ordering from the three usual food trucks - Mac Shack, Delectabowl, and Pita-Post. Sadly, the food from the food trucks is much better than the house menu - The cheese on the nachos tasted like plastic, the sliders were tiny and boring, and the pulled pork and fries were nothing to write home about. Everything was overpriced. This might sound like a really bad review, I know. I've been back several times, because Mac Shack owns my soul now. The last time I was back in good weather a small group of us sat outside. I ordered from the trucks, and a friend ordered from inside. We picked at each other's food (typical girls), and the food was MUCH better than my first visit. They were a new business, and clearly listened to their client base, which makes me truly want to stick around. With improved food, amazing drinks, GREAT customer service from in house and the food trucks, and a ton of adorable puppies on their dog-friendly patio, there's something for everyone. Staff is super-friendly and stays on top of things. The 3 food trucks here today offer you pitas, mac 'n cheese and comfort food like loaded baked potatoes. The schwarma pita was really filling. I happened to come here twice in the same day. First visit: It wasn't overly busy, but my waitress took a bit to come by. I was still waiting on my other guest so no big deal. I had the jerk chicken tacos, a Faygo float and a small cup of buffalo chicken mac n cheese from the Mac Shack. Excellent food. No complaints about the service. Music was a little too loud in there but no big deal. Second visit: I came back later that evening with a different friend. Got the same waitress as earlier. We ordered an assortment of small plates to share while playing Bango (super fun by the way). We got the fried chicken sliders, garlic romano fries and the chicken nachos. Once again, all the food was excellent. The waitress, on the other hand, went from average to bad in the span of a few hours. She must have been getting tired or irritated by the end of her shift. We wanted to order more food. The waitress came by to check on us and we attempted to order more, but were informed the kitchen had closed at 9 on Sundays. This was only my first day being here so how was I to know? There was no last call or warning before the kitchen had closed, which irritated both of us. Then she rushed us out of there by immediately wanting to bring us the bill. As a former server, this is rude and offensive to me. If you don't want people to sit and rack up a bill, find a different profession. Food is fantastic but service needs work big time. read more

I couldn't resist sharing my wonderful experience at Detroit Fleat so here goes my first yelp review! My boyfriend and I went to the Fleat for our first time tonight and WOW! I was so impressed. We got a patio table (patio is also dog friendly - bonus) and had service right away. Our server was quick and personable! I ordered from the food truck, Pita Post and the shawarma was delicious. My boyfriend got the buttermilk chicken sliders and a side of French fries. Both were amazing! Will be back just for the fries... If you are not familiar with the concept. Detroit Fleat is a stand-alone restaurant with full bar, TV's, and food. There is indoor and out door seating. Added to this are two to three food trucks that park. You can order from the restaurant or food trucks or both. They have a happy hour, an alcoholic slushy drink which they change on a regular basis. The patio is dog friendly. Not a fan of the pulled pork sliders, but the fries, nachos, and burger sliders are good. With the variety, great space (indoor and out), I am a fan of this place. Very cool experience. The food was fun if not excellent. My 12 yr old loved her mac n cheese. My Korean beef bbq taco was disappointing but the nachos were good. I had been looking fwd to an Asian bowl as on the online menu but it didn't show up in real life. The Kufflink band was great fun. Most of the service was good. Parking is an issue and the employee who blocked me in with her car and was more preachy about it than pleasant to a customer who's just dropped $100 in her store really could use some customer service re-training. Ferndale continues to bring in new hot spots that are simply fantastic! Fleat is of the newest and delivers just what we needed. Formerly Wing Hing, the new digs are a breath of fresh air, literally. With an open air dining room that opens up to a patio complete with a pergola to add a little shade to your patio experience. Diners can either order off the house menu or grab a bite from one of the rotating food trucks featured. I'd first like to note that the inside dining room looked really clean and gave off a really chill vibe. The staff was one of the friendliest and informative I've had the pleasure of dealing with. Our server was very relaxed and attentive but didn't linger and was actually delightful to deal with. For the food we stuck with the house menu since we both wanted tacos. We tried two of each of their four tacos. The pork was an Al Pastor style with bits of pineapple. The fish tacos were served with a citrus crema and the fish was seasoned with a dry spice blend. They were fantastic. The fried avocado taco had deep fried panko coated avocado and were maybe the least flavorful of the four but still really good. A little heat here would've topped these off. The favorite for me was the chorizo though. They were really flavorful and each taco tasted ultra fresh. That said, I feel like this place has better tacos than Imperial akin to what they used to serve before they got hella busy and a little too big for their britches. On top of the great tacos, their slider options had me wanting to entice my inner fat kid with a taste of each of those too. They have four French fry flavor options, boozy shakes and a full bar, complete with featured cocktails. The atmosphere here is the perfect blend of relaxed and trendy, with the promise of delivering some really tasty food to your face hole, with a quickness. The concept here is awesome! An indoor restaurant with a huge bar and plenty of seating plus an outdoor area with some permanent food trucks and other rotating food trucks with additional outdoor seating. The menu of the restaurant has some really great sounding items, cocktails and a decent beer selection. There's also a Happy Hour with weekday specials posted at every table. I was determined to sample chicken and waffles from the guest food truck and my husband ordered the whiskey and bacon sliders from the restaurant menu. We both also ordered IPAs from the beer menu. My husbands sliders were great, the chicken & waffles average, our Diabolical IPAs came served in old style short bottles that were extremely hard to drink out of and our server didn't make another appearance until bill time, so we had no opportunity to ask for a glass. Service in general seemed very odd here with long waits and a very confused food runner carrying my husbands sliders literally all over even after he told the runner they were his. Do they have some service kinks to work out? Clearly. The space has a lot of large tables. Unfortunately, the large group right behind us were determined to be literally as loud as humanly possible. A large group of shouters right behind us colored our entire experience in a very negative way. And one really loud table forces the volume up in the entire place. Is this Detroit Fleats fault? We visited last weekend AND LOVED IT. We were the only people there on a chilly Sunday morning until about 12:30. My three year old and I both ordered Mac and cheese from the Mac Shack place. My son loved his and so did I! My order was wrong when I picked it up, but as soon as I brought it back, the guy remembered he messed it up and apologized and made me a new one. The real winner here are their bacon and cheese fries. Holy. Heck. Yes. Please. Still dreaming about these!!!! My husband ordered from the Pita place and he got the schnitzel sandwich thing. I never go for things like this - but I nearly ate half of his. Oops. Perks of being married is that what is his is mine! Score! We ate at Detroit Fleat on the first Saturday of November. It was their first ever themed cook-off day. We paid to be a part of the cook-off, which allowed us to sample each food truck's take on a Thanksgiving dinner. (From what I understand, they have a different theme each month.) The food itself was great, and the experience it self was a lot of fun. I definitely would like to go back again to eat from their in-house kitchen, try some of their craft cocktails, and drink some more beers they have on tap! read more

Amazing concept, great location, fabulous food. Checked out Detroit Fleat on it's second day open and had a great experience. More parking than anticipated, although street parking shouldn't be a problem here. The outdoor patio was adorable and quite spacious. The bar area is very inviting with tons of reclaimed wood and Detroit themed artwork. While I didn't sample the cocktails or Fleat menu, both looked worth coming back for. The vibe is casual and relaxed. The food trucks are used to cranking out great product in a hurry already, so no kinks to work out there. They are constantly updating their Facebook page, so I would consult that to know exactly what trucks to expect. This evening there was Mac Shack, Delectabowl and Pita Post.
