The chicken tacos were pretty good, the elote wasn't bad but was smothered with way too much butter for me, prefer it with just the cheese and spices myself. The cheese fries were soggy and sub-par as far as flavors goes for me. There was a decent array of condiments for all. The fries looked too cooked as well. This place is awesome. I used to live in another city that had something similar and I was so excited to see this place pop up. The food trucks are all delicious, the outdoor seating is pet friendly and has great music and a relaxed environment. Inside, the actual bar area is large and the drink specials and beers are to die for. If you're not sure which drinks to try, get a flight! The bartenders and super friendly and will help you pick some that you'll love. They also offer menu items directly at the bar or you can go outside and grab something from the trucks. If you are looking for a new experience, come here. Considering my husband and I are champagne snobs, we had to try the "champagne experience." For $30, you get a bottle of champagne, different juices, and fresh fruit. I'd say it was a fair price considering the amount of juices you get to try. It included orange juice, cranberry juice, grapefruit juice and pineapple juice. It was fun making our own mimosa variations. As for the food, we ate from the Mediterranean truck. I forgot the name of it. I ordered the chicken shawarma bowl. The chicken was moist and fresh. It was a good size portion. My husband ordered the fish tacos and fries. He said his was great. I've been here on a few occasions, once when the food trucks were open, and had a great time, then I came another time, and was sadly disappointed when the trucks were closed. I ate the "house" made sliders, which took surprisingly a LONG time to be made, and were a bit lack-luster. If you go, I highly recommend calling ahead to make sure the trucks you're looking for are actually there/open. Overall though, it's a cool environment, and the drinks are also pretty tasty. read more

Detroit Fleat is a really cool concept! You go in the building and you can order drinks or from their food menu (small plates kind of bar food, Mexican etc.) Then you can go out back and order from whatever food trucks are there. Our favorite is Pita Post, but Mac Shack and Delectabowl Park there too. There was also an Italian truck the first time we went. You pick your food truck and order food, then they give you a buzzer for when the food is ready. Tonight was beautiful, so we ate on the patio. The string lights, umbrella and porch all give a great vibe to the atmosphere. Also, you can bring your four legged friends with you to eat on the patio!! (Bummed I forgot my dog)! It's such an innovative idea in a culture where food trucks are becoming more prominent. I really want to give this place 4 stars but I think 3 is the most honest. They have a really great beer list from bottles to taps. They receive in a lot of rare releases and offer them at fair market pricing considering. I have tried several items off of Fleats own menu and have yet to find something memorable. While I am positive their menu is good to some people, I am just not a fan. Not everything has to be crazy-fusion-look-at-me-I'm-hip Tacos or Sliders. Without their food trucks, I probably wouldn't keep visiting. With that being said, they always have a great lineup of semi-permanent trucks (Matt & Mo's being the absolute best) and some fun rotating trucks. I like the concept, and the beer selection is good. But wow, are these food trucks overpriced. $8-12 per item (no sides or drink) and small portions. I don't know... food trucks in other places are affordable and delicious. Food trucks at Detroit Fleat are maybe a bit too fancy and underwhelming. Also -- get some freaking space heaters for the patio! Almost every other bar in the area with a patio puts out space heaters so you can still enjoy the space during a crisp fall evening, but this place just leaves you out there to freeze your butt off. The atmosphere is nice and I was excited to take my family here when they came to visit. The outside area was busy, but the inside had many tables open. We ordered 2 burgers (with no sides), 2 tacos, and a side of chips and salsa. After about an hour of waiting for our food to arrive, we hesitantly asked the host about it because we were worried our ticket got lost. Someone then came to our table with a terribly rude attitude and said, "I heard you want to cancel your meal." We said, "no, we just wanted to check up on it because we've been waiting for an hour." They looked at our ticket and said, "actually, you ordered 58 minutes ago." I think we were all in shock that this person was not joking about a 2 minute difference. We continued to wait, and our food ended up coming after an hour and a half... and we all left still hungry. The wait for little and simple food was one thing, but if their employee would have been a normal and nice person about it, it would've been a different story. I finally got a chance to stop by the Detroit Fleat with some friends and I was very impressed! The parking is the only thing I'm still a bit confused about. Their parking lot is very small, less than 20 spots, so we parked on a side street and just walked over! There's a really cool looking inside where you greeted by a host/hostess and as soon as you walk in you see a huge circular bar that looks pretty perfect for happy hour. The outside is even cooler with their food trucks set up, a water station and tables all around. I went straight for The Mac Shack, because it's my weakness and it's delicious :) BUT! They don't have Amaze-Balls :'( My heart broke a bit once I found that out but I collected myself and got a favorite of mine, the "Papa Smurf" with cartelized onions, mushrooms and grated parm! It was yummy as usual and I regretted not getting the larger bowl almost immediately after my first bite. I can't wait to come back! Umm the water taste like used toilet water... The fried avocado taco, it had more things on it but it was just tasteless. Like I should have put salt on my taco! We Stopped in on a sunny Saturday afternoon grabbed a picnic table on the patio, and looked over the menu from 3 different food trucks and the bar/inside kitchen choices. The combination offered a good choice of various street foods, local brews, mixed drinks and wine. I selected a chicken pita, and my wife choosing a stuffed baked potato. Well, this used to be one of my friends and I favorite places but as of recent that has changed. We went on a Wednesday night for girls night. Upon arrival at 6pm they didn't want to seat us because it was Trivia night and everything was "reserved". At 645 we got kicked out of our seats to the bar. When we left the bar an hour later, there were multiple tables empty. There was also no social media postings about trivia and needing reservations. The waitress, who I didn't recognize was rude. She had no customer services skills and told us that we "had to ask for salt on a margarita" and that it doesn't just come with it, nor was it her job to ask. My wife and I wanted to have our 1 yr old daughter's birthday party at a location that was hip, had a great ambiance with solid food, could host up to 65 people and served alcohol. We chose Detroit Fleat in Ferndale and was thoroughly impressed with it all! Katie, the co-owner, and her staff were amazing to work with from start to finish, the food from the kitchen was on point (try the beef and pulled pork sliders, Mac and cheese, chips and queso and fish tacos) and the venue could handle our large group easily. While the kiddos were playing at our designated arts and crafts tables and getting their faces painted (one of their hostesses is an artist), the adults mingled and enjoyed some beer, wine and cocktails until it was time to cut the cake. The staff even cut the cake in slices for us and served our guests! It was a perfect day for our daughter! I have been here several times and have mostly enjoyed my experiences here. They have a wide variety of beer and I just enjoy having easy and regular access to some of the food trucks that rotate through. However, I actually prefer the food they offer in house versus the food trucks. On my last visit, I walked in late for a nightcap with a friend and as we were trying to sit down the bartender mumbled something about my buddy having trouble pulling out a chair. We both didn't think much of it and they proceeded to take our orders. My drink order came without a hitch and a glass of ice water was provided to my friend. We were a bit mystified and we tried to ask what was going on, but the staff was ignoring us. Finally, another staffer came by and told us that he refused to serve my buddy because he thought he was inebriated. Hand on heart, we had just come back in from a Tiger game and it had not been a heavy night. Both of us were completely mystified by the experience. I totally understand the bartender/business's reasoning, but I think he jumped the gun and did a HORRIBLE job of explaining the situation to us. Had he made it clear that he would not serve my buddy from the beginning, we would have just left. The annoying part was they took our order and than ignored him. Also, I found the bartender's tone surprisingly patronizing and smug, and said as much to him. My friend was understandingly pissed and eventually lost his cool and was told to leave. Fortunately, I was allowed to stick around and finish my drinks an on a positive note, I ended up with a free flight of beer. Overall, not the best last impression, but still enjoy the idea of this place and glad it does exist. I would suggest that they try to get Ricewood from A2 over there for a short stint. read more

This was my first time visiting Detroit Fleat...I had never heard of it until a friend recommended it. It's located on 9 mile close to I-75. This place would be perfect if it was located on Woodard with all the other hot and popular restaurants and bars. Our party of 4 arrived on a Friday around 9pm...there were plenty of tables open inside but the outside patio was packed (first come first served) so we sat at the bar. The concept of this place is pretty cool. Having a bar/restaurant with food trucks outside is new to me. I'm making it a priority to try the food trucks next time. The decor appeals to the younger crowd and looks like a very cool place to hang out with friends. The menu is small/standard bar menu sized. but they have a lot of beers. I had the shrimp and steak tacos which were really good. The shrimp was fried and the steak wasn't dry. Our server/bartender was really nice and cool to talk to (I forgot his name). The food did take a little longer than expected to arrive but it wasn't a problem. I definitely recommend adding this to your Ferndale bar hopping lineup. read more

It was a cold and rainy, blah kind of evening. But we wanted to do something. We wanted to go somewhere that didn't require a ton of walking, because...well...my hair of course. Anyway, we had a gift card for Detroit Fleat and enjoyed it last time so came again. The parking lot was full, so we did have to park on a side street and walk but it wasn't a huge big deal. I didn't melt or anything. All of the igloos were in use (bummer), and it was quite busy, but we did manage to find a seat at the bar. Yay! There was live music, which sort of made me nervous. I have to be in the right mindset for live music because of how loud it can get. I hate when I can't carry on a conversation. But these two were quite good. And we were right in front of them and were still able to carry on a conversation. So that made me happy. The cocktails are always fun here and change often. The food does as well. The theme for last night was "Breakfast for Dinner"...other than Brunch, I don't think there's much I like more than breakfast for dinner! Yay!! There were a few different options, and I sucked it up and went for biscuit and gravy sliders. He, of course, went for chicken and waffles. The food arrived and the servings were generous. The biscuits were "hard" which is how I like them for biscuits and gravy. They were delicious! I could only manage to eat one, but very good. He seemed impressed with his chicken and waffles because he ate the whole thing. He did mention they were a little spicy. Fun spot. Nice place to chill. First time at zee fleat a couple weeks ago. Sat at the bar. Seemed like the bartender was ready to leave. She was very nice but definitely seemed rushed (a little later in the visit we realized it was shift change) We ordered food at the bar. Started with the queso dip. I wish I took a pic for all of you but trust me when I say that it was the BEST queso I've ever had. Reason for the 2 stars is because I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sliders (posted some pics). They looked great and first couple bites were great until I recognized a squishy consistency. Looked down and the chicken was raw. Not like, oh its a little pink.. No no. RAW. I'm in the restaurant industry and totally understand that things like this happen so I certainly wasn't furious by any means. However, service was verrry slow. Food runner ran our food and our bartender did not check on us a single time. When she finally came over I showed her the raw chicken and she instantly said the whole tab was paid for. I would've gladly paid for the queso and my friends pork sliders but I figure she may have realized that she hadn't checked on us. I was very surprised that a manager did not come over which is why I chose to post this review. Flatbread was burnt, and inedible. No one checked on us and my husband went into the bar to get a second round of drinks. Finally flagged down server after about 45 minutes to ask her to remove the flat bread from our bill. Not sure why the kitchen thought it was acceptable to serve. Server told us she didn't come back to check on us because we had moved into a different section (one table over). Would get that but she didn't check on the people who took our old table either so that excuse is pretty flimsy. If you go here order from food trucks, not their restaurant. definitely going to be my new spring/summer spot! the new truck line up is awesome and so is the new house menu. everything we got was great including the drinks (peachy palmer, smoky paloma) and house chips and queso (amazing). we ordered an italian beef sandwich from matt & mo's, and split shrimp and chicken tacos from el guapo grill. the tacos were so good, definitely get the shrimp taco! especially if you like guacamole and tons of flavor. we got the italian beef with sweet and hot peppers, provolone, and dipped in au jus and it was SO good! pretty sure my husband and i were wishing we didn't have to share this sandwich. peppers were so spicy but i loved the heat, it was just what the sandwich needed. i am looking forward to coming back and getting more food from these trucks. the service started off a little spotty but it was super busy and the patio was packed. if you want a seat on the patio during summer months make sure you get here before dinner time (we arrived at about 6:30 and people started to pile in around 7). the patio was dead to start off but by the time we left people were standing around waiting for tables. read more

The patio is dog friendly and where I prefer to sit if weather permits but they offer inside seating if you'd like. Their food menu has a variety of options from salads to flatbreads, to what I noticed everyone ordering, the loaded fries. Taco salad with the Chorizo was a winner for me. Their cilantro lime dressing was fantastic! OR you can opt to get up and order from the food trucks. They have rotating trucks and the resident ones which include Mama Mia, El Guapo and Pita Pit. They've recently changed the menu (twice) however you can now mix and match sliders (even though tacos still have to be ordered in pairs of two ).
