    Bucatini with Scallops
    Mike C.

Beautiful restaurant stationed on a lovely street in Ambler adjacent to the old Ambler Theater. Exquisite atmosphere if you dine outside and the inside is nothing to frown about either. Now on to the food. Bucatini with Scallops - They had two options for this appetizer, small or large size and we opted for the large size to split. This is house made Bucatini which is one of my favorite pasta's and this appetizer did not disappoint. Terrific appetizer and unfortunately it looks like they already have replaced this on the dinner menu with Bucatini with Meatballs in its place : ( Raspberry Point Oysters - Very different, these were prepared with what appears to be a lime sorbet or something of the like frozen in a small pearl shape on the Oysters. I respect the establishment trying out different methods of preparing Oysters but after having two with this flavor blast similar to lime water ice I opted to remove the unique item from the remainder of my portion of the Oysters. Question for the owners, is this the only type of Oysters you offer? May want to offer generic Oysters for those that want the option for traditional Oysters. Mushroom Toast - This appetizer was a home run complete with Buffalo Milk Burrata and Black Truffle Aioli accompanied by local mushrooms on Toast. If you do not have a large appetite this appetizer and a glass of wine may be a perfect pick me up and a healthy fun option. Wine Selection - I was a bit surprised being a Wine Bar that they did not have more options for Red wines by the glass. I wasn't a fan of the Cab that I had but that's ok as the overall meal I was really happy with. I will have to check the other reviews to see if they have Happy Hour as it does not state on their website but if they offer it I would be inclined to come back here for a beverage and some more of their house made pasta options. As always people SYOY!!!

Beware - New Owners and a very rough start. Been to Dettera many times since it opened years ago, this was the first truly bad experience with service and food. Came at 6:25 for a 6:30 reservation. 20 minutes to get drinks and the Old Fashioned was poor. Ordered food at 7:00 and mentioned that we needed to leave by 7:50 for a show. Waitress just shrugged. At 7:35 asked about food and they went to check. At 7:40 they said it was in the window and I asked that it just be put in a to go box. That took a while and finally walked out at 7:50. The host was sincerely apologetic, comped the meal and gave us two gift cards which was very nice. Said they were busy but the outside and upstairs were closed and the downstairs was maybe 70% filled. Then when I got home and opened the meal (Salmon) I couldn't believe how pathetic it looked (pic below is before I touched it). Also really disappointed with the lack of any flavor. Will not be going back until I hear they've gotten their s**t together.

My first time to Dettera! We made a reservation via OpenTable and were seated immediately. Overall food was incredible but service was not wonderful (started very slow but improved over our visit.) We will definite return to try the rest of the menu! Food: 10/10, would give higher if I could. We started with mushroom toast, dozen oysters and baby greens salad (shared between 4.) I could have eaten the apps and been satisfied based on great portions. I will come back just for those three apps alone, they were fresh and delicious. Loved the granita on top of the oysters, very unique touch! For entrees my mother and I both had pappardelle which was a creamy sauce with scallops. The scallops were very tiny but cooked perfectly and flavors were incredible. Hubs had the rack of lamb which was cooked perfectly. Dad had the burger which was outstanding. My only disappointment was the wine selection. For a wine bar I would have expected more options, maybe I just didn't get the wine menu? I will say that the rosé I had was outstanding. Apparently it is new to their bar and offered on draft. Highly recommend (Cantine Povero, Vino Rosato, NV, Piedmont, Italy.) Ambiance: Beautiful. We sat on the outdoor patio which was nestled between two walls of brick with string lights. Patio furniture was incredibly comfortable. Service: Improved over time and our waitress was excellent. However, after being seated we had to wait a very long time even before getting water and being able to order our drinks. Unfortunately had to wave down hostess to track down our waitress since we'd been waiting so long. My father also asked for an actual menu (as he has a hard time reading on the phone) and had to remind them to bring it out. Once our server did come she recommended putting appetizers and entrees in at once as the kitchen was very backed up, but then our appetizers came before we got our drinks from the bar. As the night went on our waitress was more attentive and apologetic for waits. Very friendly and had great insight into the menu.

I loved this place! I'll be back. The Montepulciano, mushroom toast and beet salad were perfection.

I LOVE the Corpse Reviver! It is a perfect Gin drink and the absinthe is a great touch! Love the ambience in the restaurant as well!

Wasn't bad but not my favorite. Noticed from a review they had soft shell crabs. My hubby has been on the hunt for them. So of course we had to stop in and try them out. The service was great despite being super busy. Our sharable plates came out fast and hot. The calamari was good, not a fan of the Brussel sprouts. Brussels were a little to burnt for me. I had the brazino dish and of course my husband had the soft shell. My dish was good, should've substituted my chick peas and my hubby was let down with the crabs. They were flashed fried and not much seasoning, but it did taste better with the sauce on the side Our lemon drop and margarita was made to perfection.

This is more than just a restaurant; it is a culinary experience. You're guaranteed to love any dish you order here. Chef Jeffrey Power is an innovative genius, which is probably why he and his staff were invited to cook at the prestigious James Beard house a few years ago. He's uber picky and selects/serves only high quality all-natural meats and the freshest seafood. He also uses sustainable ingredients that are locally grown. The farm-to-table dishes offer a perfect balance of delicate, yet sometimes surprising, flavors and textures - all carefully prepared to perfection. The staff is amazing and the service is second to none. The wine and liquor selection is one of the largest you'll find and the owner is an experienced wine connoesieur. The two story restaurant is cozy and charming- complete with fireplace, large windows, high ceilings and wood beams. I feel so honored and privileged to have been able to enjoy a multi-course meal here (in good company). Very few restaurants make me feel completely blown away and this is one of those magical unicorn restaurants. I'm very much looking forward to a future visit.

But when we finally had the opportunity to get a reservation at Mary, I felt compelled to write one. It didn't just "not disappoint", it exceeded every expectation we hoped to have. We sat at the bar, which gave a cool bar vibe with our own bottle of wine (which you don't always get at BYOs), and we had a clear view into the open kitchen. Plus, the service was perfectly on point throughout the entire meal. We started with the ceviche, which was a very generous portion for us to share, and absolutely delicious. I was planning to order the burger, but when the waitress told us it was always on the menu, I opted for the blackened swordfish... and, boy, was I glad I did. My husband got the pork chop; I snagged a bite and it was amazing, too. Both entrees were also very generous portions, and my leftovers were just as good the next day (maybe even a little better once the flavors blended together). We finished with a brownie dessert, and when we finally got the check, we were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it was. Overall, it was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time, and I can't wait to go back and get that burger!!

Well it's been open two weeks now and we've already been there three times. Unfortunately, it was closed one time and we missed that, but I digress. Yes, it is the real deal! Delicious, quaint, friendly and affordable. So far we've had bacon cheeseburger, shrimp tacos, brisket sandwich, Mac and cheese, truffle fries. All were superb. I could barely fit the cheeseburger in my mouth. Loaded with bacon and flavor it is a wonderful experience. The truffle fries have an incredible taste that hit the spot with a tasty meal. The brisket sandwich melted in my mouth and was packed with yummyness (if that is a word?) Ms D had the shrimp tacos both times and can't wait to go back for more. Perhaps the nicest part of the experience has been the friendliness of the staff. Both Charlie and Desirey have take time to chat with us and all the customers. They are excited to be in Spring House and eager to make sure that everyone's experience is wonderful. If you are looking for a new spot to check out, this is the place. I kept suggesting we go there one night for dinner and finally on a bustling Saturday evening we did! We were asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside and we chose outside so we could listen to the music and enjoy the ambience. We perused the menu and decided to start with a cocktail. I ordered "the Unicorn" which is described as having "assorted fruit liquor" and the server told me they were out of the fruit liquor. So I went with Robert's dew, while my bf got the Dragonberry mojito. Our drinks arrived fairly quickly and they were decent. We decided to start with the cheesesteak egg rolls as an app and for our entrees I did the crab cakes and he did the fried chicken. The egg rolls were also served very quickly, but it was at this moment we realized we had no silverware or napkins while everyone around us had cloth napkins on their laps. We managed to flag down our server and asked for napkins. She came back with cocktail napkins. It was our fault for not explaining we did not have silverware either, but our table was bare so we didn't realize we needed to be more specific. The egg rolls were served with a spicy ketchup, and were hot and delicious, with fried onions and a crispy coated outer shell. When our entrees arrived we still didn't manage to get silverware but the person delivering our food brought it over quickly. Now it's at this point I should mention I'm quite the foodie, who not only dines out frequently but also loves to cook. My crab cakes were a little on the "fishy" side and lacked flavor. All of the flavor was on the lemon aioli they were served with. That being said, they were definitely filled with crab and didn't seem to contain much filler. They just need some additional seasoning. The risotto it was served with could also use seasoning as well. My bfs fried chicken was served with French fries, Cole slaw, and corn bread. I tasted it and would give it all a 3/5 rating. Not bad at all, but nothing to rave about. It was on the dry side and again lacked flavor. We were considering dessert since we saw there were a few cookie style skillets when we looked up the menu in advance, but we were on the fence about if we should. When our server didn't ask if we wanted dessert we opted to skip it this time. Overall, the ambience is fun and it's a great place for a drink and apps with friends. The flatbread pizza seemed to be the star of the show and I think next time we will order from the sandwich, burger, or pizza menu rather than a full on dinner. Our server was HUSTLING and may have had a few tables inside too, which can be stressful, plus the restaurant was busy. We will come back and try again.
