I went to the Stray Dog Café for New Year's precisely for the following reasons: fun, great parking, a great menu -- and the fourth, most important reason, their rescue efforts for dogs. My brother's disabled pitbull mix, Radar, died about a week ago, and spending money at this local venue felt like a meaningful tribute to Radar as I entered 2026. I only knew Radar since September, but I instantly fell in love with his gentleness, gratitude, and perseverance. Being here felt like a small but intentional way to honor him. I am so delighted to support a restaurant that cares about the wellbeing of animals, and that love is clearly reflected in everything they do. I had a delicious Impossible burger and a great vodka soda, and the service was excellent. This is a great place to meet people, with a welcoming and lively atmosphere. 10/4/2025 We went here to cool off, eat and rest at Skippack Days Craft Fest. I hadn't been here in so long, when this restaurant used to be called Justin's Carriage House. I was a little leery of trying a place that I used to like that changed ownership but I was delightfully surprised! I loved how the server brought over a fresh carafe of chilled water. I like that because my glass never will go empty. We ordered the California turkey club and the bacon Gouda Mac n cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious and our server was so attentive. She was frequently filling my friend's ice tea glass. I also appreciated how she explained that they were short staffed and the kitchen was backed up. She kept us updated and honestly it really wasn't delayed much at all. I appreciated her setting the expectation and her transparency. I would definitely go back when I'm in the area. This was our first visit to Stray Dog Tavern since it changed hands from Justin's. We had lunch here on a Tuesday afternoon so the restaurant and bar were almost empty. We were seated promptly and got menus quickly. The menu is somewhat heavy food-wise, so don't come here looking for a light lunch. My husband got a roast beef sandwich. Generous portion, with a really tasty side Caesar salad. He said the beef was good, but wasn't very warm. I had the crab Mac and cheese. It was delicious, but a very small portion for $19, considering there was 1 piece of lump crab in the whole dish. Again, flavor was good, it was well cooked and seasoned, but not enough crab for the price. It doesn't look like much has been done with the restaurant since it changed hands. The have a lot of dog decor, but overall it still feels very dark and dated. It seems like there is an opportunity to brighten things up and modernize a bit more than they have. I found this place as my wife and I were out for an evening and i said let's just drive until we see some place new. It is pretty basic for what it is, a bar light restaurant the sort you can find in many places. It is not high haut cuisine but if you're looking for a burger/sandwich and beer, you're right at home. The staff seem light on the floor but there's no long waits, they come with the food after a reasonable time then seem to disappear. My wife had the pot pie and I had a Ruben, both came with sides and ran $17 each which gives you an idea of the costs. I'm hard pressed to find adjectives because it was what we expected. good portions, delivered fast and tasty without being wonderful and a pleasant stop. So why points off? well it was good but unremarkable. not a place I'd say 'oh let's go there again' so much as a "I'm hungry that's nearby' sort of thing. Also the bathroom facilities are extremely limited which is not good if they're busy AND the bar behind the dinning area, where you come in from the parking lot, is a little...rustic. like bare boards and wondering where's the spittoon and dueling banjos. read more

Great beer selection, and quality food. My better half enjoyed the shepherds pie, while I opted for the brussel sprouts au gratin Which could have been cooked a little longer, (very hard) and I also had the fish and chips that were awesome. And you can bring your four legged k-9 friends to keep you company while you dine at their outdoor seating area. Can't wait to come back and try more of their offerings. This is the second time I have tried the Stray Dog. Both times it was by default, once because they were the only place we could find with live music, and this time because they were the only place open on a Monday! I was very impressed both times with the food. First time we shared a flatbread and it was delicious! This time we hit upon happy hour and tried a bunch of different apps and shared one meal. Everything we tried was great! The prices were nice because of the happy hour deals. And we all enjoyed the ambiance. We were a little cold, near a window, but it was a cold day. Both times the service was a little slower than we would have liked, but all in all, a nice place with great hours and live music every weekend! Can't ask for more than that! read more

Every day (all 7 of them) they have a happy hour menu that includes Buck a Shuck oysters and they are amazing. Bartenders are friendly, the regulars are chatty. My boyfriend and I decided to stop here for a drink and something to eat. From the outside the place looked pretty nice. Once inside we saw that it really had charm and after speaking with the hostess about how the owners have a dog rescue and that there are pictures of rescued dogs throughout the restaurant, we were really glad we stopped in. If only we had known. First, our waitress was super nice and VERY understanding. It started with the first drink and just got worse. The cocktail list was impressive...but that's it. The first drink I ordered had a cucumber base with gin. What I got was sour lemon water, no cucumber taste, and the hope it had gin in it. I was going to keep drinking it but it really was ...just bad. My boyfriends drink-I remember it was supposed to have coconut milk in it. It was an almost clear drink with no hint of coconut, or anything that fit the cocktails description. Now, my second drink-this time with tequila....water. cold, bad...water. You reallllly have to try to make a flavorless drink using tequila. I'd say the bartender really pulled it off but she wasn't the bartender-she was the MANAGER...not a bartender making the "drinks". 3 drinks sent back. Since we ordered food we decided to stick with beer and wine...we didn't think the manager would be making those. I ordered the pastrami reuben on toasted rye. The toasted rye was ok, the slabs of pastrami- no, not thinly sliced as you're picturing-thick slabs like thick ham...with a funky taste. Honestly, I tried...but, nope, didn't even eat half. My boyfriend ordered grilled cheese. This came with soup. He doesn't like tomato soup so he asked if he could sub the onion soup even if it meant paying more. The answer was a straight up no, they won't change the soup, not now, not ever, can't be done. Evidently they cannot separate the tomato soup from the grilled cheese. We told the waitress to keep the tomato soup so it doesn't go to waste and put in an order of French onion...and though obviously frowned upon, bring the French onion out with the grilled cheese. Our server was nice enough to bring out a couple of ounces of tomato soup to take home since it was included in the cost of the sandwich. I really didn't think grilled cheese could be so...plain...but there it was....We absolutely decided to turn down desert. It was very hot in there (we moved the fan that was blowing into an empty area over to our table hoping it would help...nope) so we just decided to cut our loses and get out. I have never walked away from a restaurant shaking my head as much as I did that night. Walking in the door you are greeted by a warm and cozy establishment, almost like a cottage feel. The staff are warm and welcoming as they find a seat which you are interested in, restaurant, bar or bar table. Soon after being seated you are greeted by your waiter or waitress whom requests your drink order. In our case we were very interested in their extensive draft list but had several questions. Josh who was our fantastic waiter walked us through the draft menu offering us recommendations based on previous guests; being very patient in the process as we took some time to decide. After that they were very efficient with procuring our drinks and taking our first and second course orders. The food was out of this world, surpassing our expectations being a small tavern on the outskirts of a large city! This food was out of this world. French inspired cuisine with a flair of local decadence, I am serious when I tell you this food will not disappoint. I highly recommend the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese and mushroom, Gouda pizza, and seared tuna. These dishes were large in portion while being reasonable in price. Additionally the short rib and beef tips were fantastic main courses but the pot pie was a close 3rd with the apple dumplings and the s'more's tart being my favorite desserts! Then there was Karla our fabulous bartender and mixologist who provided our flight of beers perfectly labeled for the tasting and after drink cocktails with the most beautiful garnishes. Each drink was hand crafted with the most perfect touch to signify that there had been much care and thought delivered into the formulation. The Stray has hands down the worst bar service in the area. The bartenders are MISERABLE and act as if patrons are an inconvenience. This has been true for years so it's not just an "off night". They don't smile, are not seemingly happy to be there and don't even look up... making it quite impossible to get service. Time and time again we wonder why we go back. Very sad as it could be a gold mine.. instead it's quick sand. The owner seems to be oblivious as to his or her bar staffs attitudes as they should ALL be fired. read more

Buck-a-shuck oysters? I'm there...at happy hour from 4-6PM...except one freakin' problemo, THEY HAD NO OYSTERS!!! AT ALL!! OK, so with a half decent beer selection, and a $4 rotating craft during happy hour, a new keg had just been installed. All foam, 3 glasses and 5 minutes of rest to get to one warm glass of beer. I am sure this was a one time screw up, maybe someone dropped the keg while hooking it up. 30 minutes later, the second beer the same thing, only the bartender let it sit and rest for 10 minutes this time, really warm now. Until the third beer she offered me a different one, not as good as the initial one I would have liked, but no wait. 50 cent wings during happy hour, they were actually very good and the best wings in Skippack in my opinion. These 4 star wings took my overall rating from 2 stars to 3. Next time I am getting the burger, it looked really good and the 80% men crowd were sucking them down. An old-school, dark brown interior which you may need your phone flashlight and a pair of readers but I'll return to give another try. I mean the bartenders were very busy and I felt guilty for always having to verbally grab one as they were flying by, but very good they were. read more

I came here because I saw the new vegetarian menu they recently added and I was not disappointed! The vegetarian Gouda Mac & Cheese was delicious, I devoured it. My family also enjoyed the Chicken Pot Pie and Vegetarian Gnocchi. The bread that came with the Gnocchi was fresh and plump! This place is a disaster. Went about a year and a half ago and waited about 20 minutes at outdoor bar until someone greeted us. Gave it a second chance about 10 months ago and sat at inside bar. There was a crossword puzzle and scattered wawa items at a barstool. It was the bartender's stuff. When I asked if she could move it, she was visibly annoyed with me. My wife and I enjoyed lunch here. She had a grilled reuben with a side salad with house balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The pastrami used in the reuben is purported to be home made. The pastrami was great but smelled smokier than it tasted. There was a generous serving on the sandwich. The salad and dressing was good too. We recommend this item. I had the fish tacos and can only award them a C+ . They were fine but not full of flavor. They consisted of three soft taco shells, each with a strip of deep fried fish and topped with a sweet Cole slaw like you might eat with BBQ. Mostly I tasted the slaw. Personally, I like a cilantro/jalapeno based slaw with this dish and I like the fish, if fried, to be seasoned and coated with Panko for crunchiness. I couldn't taste any seasoning on the fish. Nothing wrong with the preparation and the portion was quite adequate, just not worth more than a C+. I chose homemade bleu cheese dressing for my side salad. The dressing had plenty of flavor and I really enjoyed it. I had and Irish ale and my wife had a glass of wine. That's why our bill was over $50. It would have been around $34 otherwise. The Dog has a nice, old time atmosphere than made us both feel very comfortable. It's a good place for lunch. read more

This was our second visit to the Stray Dog, the food was good, the outside bar is a great. The service left a lot to be desired, asked for a beer 3 different times waited over 20 minutes, the bar was not that busy. What was really interesting was having dinner then drinks, (when you could get them) I was tracked down to pay the cover charge for the band, hearing someone else say they were asked if they had dined there when say they didn't, oh you have to pay the cover. I very rarely leave bad reviews but our experience here last night was horrible and one visit before was so-so. Perhaps they were short-staffed but the staff seems completely disorganized and as if they don't care. Called ahead for a reservation as it was a Friday night and were told they don't take reservations. Arrived to find out they do recommend reservations however the hostess was amazing and accommodated quickly offering a table for two in the bar. Our server quickly greeted and asked for our drink order as we were sitting down and grabbing menus - prompt however we hadn't had an opportunity to look. Seeing she was busy we asked for a few minutes. She returned a minute later for our food order to which we ordered drinks and asked for a little more time with the menu. Drinks came in 15 minutes, ordered food. Food was out relatively quick - 30 minutes or so however it was brought out by someone other than our server. At this point, drinks and water were long gone, halfway through our meal our server came back to ask if we needed anything. Yes, drinks, ketchup, more water. Over an hour into it we got our second round of drinks arrived but she failed to scan the table and remove our empty glasses, plates. Another 45 minutes pass so hubbs goes to the bar for drink, while gone, server shows up. Timing is everything. I ask for the check and she brings it right over. We insert cash, she is back in a flash. Doesn't return with our change and it was easily a 40% tip - we were leaning towards 20% at best because the food was good however, she went missing the rest of the night.
