Great selection of craft cocktails and friendly bartenders. The food is decent--we especially enjoyed the burger, cheesesteak eggrolls, and blackened mahi tacos. However, the service tends to be quite slow. On several visits, we've experienced long stretches without check-ins, even with empty glasses and plates, and had to wait an unusually long time just to get the check--this has happened even during non-peak hours. That said, the most disappointing part of our experience was the hostess whose interaction with a customer came across as noticeably rude and unprofessional. It left a bad impression and really detracted from what should have been an enjoyable afternoon. read more

I dined here this afternoon with my family and the experience was ATROCIOUS. Firstly, the server was not interested in being helpful or being a waitress. We arrived at 3 and appetizers arrived at 4 and by 4:30 we still had not received our meals. I asked for the manager at that point and a young gentleman appeared with the server in tow. As he was approaching we heard him say " what the fuck they want". We told him we wanted to close out the tab and leave. He just shrugged and walked off. Let me cut to the chase. The place is nice and clean. The service was very good also. Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered Cheesesteak Egg rolls that were priced at $16 . Normally this would not bother me in a high end restaurant, which this place is not. Small portion not very tasty. My order of wings done in a mango habanero sauce were totally tasteless, the order of steak tacos looked like a kiddie platter, with dried out meat. Definitely not worth the money. I want to say congratulations for be the worst bar in Glenside with wings. You charge $18 for 12 wings with very little meat on them. I must say though that the bartender was excellent. Maybe you should buy your wings at the grocery store because they would be much better. read more

I recently visited this establishment after its rebranding. I was impressed. I loved the Philly themed atmosphere. The service and food did not disappoint either. I went on a Wednesday evening and found out that they do Quizzo at 7pm! I didn't get a chance to participate but I'll be back very soon on a Wednesday night! read more

Sometimes you just have to have a burger - we all know that urge. I had one last night. Luckily, we relied on an old stand by in the neighborhood, The Highland. We'd been before for a burger, and knew we'd be able to satisfy any urges we had. We both ordered the burgers, she opted for the spicy mayo - I went with only lettuce, tomato and of course cheese. Please note, they have only American cheese - no cheddar, which I found to be quite unusual, but not a concern. The burgers were spot on - cooked exactly as we ordered them, flavorful and juicy! Everything you would expect from a good hamburger! Next time you get that urge, The Highland's the place to go. read more

We got the "jawn" sandwich with fries and a regular cheese pizza. Idk if it's because we are spoiled in NYC, but we simply weren't crazy about the food. It was all decent, but nothing memorable. Decided to try this place for lunch with a friend (we had an appointment near by). Thursday afternoon lunch, it wasn't crowded at all. We were seated near the walkway to the bathroom. After a couple people squeezed by, we asked to be mi ed which was no problem. Our server was pleasant and welcoming. Their Instagram shows a grilled cheese with Brie and fig jam, however was told my only cheese option was American. No biggie. I opted for the burger which was good but an $18 dollar burger should come with more fries in my opinion. The food was okay but pricey. read more

I enjoy the food here. Came here previously when it was Bernies. Environment is casual yet local classy. Cafle lighter didn't excuse themselves when they came to the table which was a little unprofessional. Food was good not great. Would definitely come again to try out other things on the menu. Good food. Good service. Good ambience. This place used to Bernie's, now highland. The inside didn't change much since they took it over but it's super cute. We got to the restaurant little earlier than our reservation and we were expecting to wait. But nope, when we checked in, we got sat right away. The server was super friendly and patience despite our large group. We didn't get my entree but all the appetizers we ordered were so good. Plus the kids seem to really like their kids menu as well. This location also has ample parking space which is a plus and thanks to so many windows in the restaurant we were able to catch a sunset and a rainbow!! read more

First and last visit. Even though we had a reservation, we were shoved into a corner with two of our backs bumping against other diners. I had to get up to find a hostess to ask for our waitress...after @ 15 minutes. She literally was standing with her hand on her hip, bouncing, taking our orders but no other interaction. Never came back to check on us. Room was very cold and music, that started 1/2 way through our meal, was too load. Food was so-so, small portions and not creative, but the Caesar with chicken had great portions. Again, tried it, but we will never go back. read more

This was our first time at the The Highland. Our table was situated next to the server area which made it a bit awkward and it was extremely loud. When it was announced that The Highland was taking the place of Bernie's, I was thrilled. Not only is it in a prime location but it's nice to see a restaurant back in this neighborhood. Everything within the interior stayed pretty much the same as I remember it from Bernie's. Very clean and well-kept and the furniture was still in great condition. We were promptly greeted by the hostess upon entering and seated right away. We ordered the Fried Pickles from the Happy Hour menu to start. I gotta say these are up there on my fried pickle scale! They were delicious and the "high" sauce that comes with it uses Russian dressing as a base. It paired well with the pickles. I noticed the shirts on the employees said "Let's get High" and thought that was clever. They had some in a case for sale at the front entrance. I can't say enough good things about our server, Tatiana. She was amazing from start to finish, and the employees who assisted with food delivery were also pleasant. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively but not overpoweringly loud. My vegan seitan wings were excellent, but I wish they were a little crispier and not so dry. The flavor was definitely there though! Truffle fries are always good, regardless of where they're from. I enjoyed them. I got a slice of Peanut Butter Pie to go (not pictured) and I loved it. It has a cheesecake-like consistency and the crust is chocolate graham instead of plain graham cracker. Highly recommend! I'll definitely return to The Highland soon! Celebrated a small birthday brunch this past Saturday. We ordered off the brunch menu and everyone enjoyed their food. From omelets, bowls, wraps and kids menu, all was delicious! Brought my son after Karate, he had the Chicken Fingers (as usual), I had the wings with Mike's Hot Honey and the Mac & Cheese. ALL TOP TEIR! Came here starving on a Monday afternoon. I was hoping they could let me slide with the Monday $20 crab leg special 6 minutes shy of the 3:00p start time. No go. I would have to wait due to the "computer" not allowing early entry. Good to know for next time! I still had seafood on my mind so I picked the lobster roll and side Caesar salad. Salad was good. I loved the crunchy Parmesan crisps and cashews. The lobster roll was just alright IMO. If only it was slightly bigger for the price point or slightly cheaper for the actual size. A size comparison can be seen in the pic of the roll next to the ketchup sauce cup. MIL ordered the fried chicken sandwich with high sauce on the side. The fried chicken cutlet was huge. She thought there were too many pickles but that was an easy fix. Surprisingly, she liked the high sauce and said it reminded her of the blooming onion sauce elsewhere. I agreed. She was very happy with her selection. My fave item from today's visit was the watermelon jalapeño margarita. MIL ordered hers with regular tequila and omitted the Tajín. I ordered the cocktail as is with all the spice. Dangerously good! Next time I would request the bartender to rim the edge of the glass with Tajín versus the side of the glass. Our server, Wendy, noted my MIL's food and cocktail modifications. Everything came out correct and quick. I need to come back for that Monday crab deal but also to try out other menu items. read more

Came here on New Year's Eve to ring in the New Year. We had reservations for 7:15pm. We were sat right by the fire. There was a saxophonist playing in the restaurant, which gave this place a really comfy jazzy vibe. Perfect atmosphere for those looking for a relaxing romantic dinner. I ordered the lobster roll and it was the best lobster roll I've ever tasted. My husband ordered the seasonal salad which he added grilled chicken to. There was also butternut squash mixed in it. I really enjoyed our time here. Service was great. Management was present making sure everyone was having a good time. They had a backdrop for guests that wanted to take their picture, so we couldn't say no to that. Very accommodating and pleasant experience. read more

I came for happy hour and the bar was packed. The great thing is happy hour is available throughout the whole restaurant! I got the mahi tacos, wings, and cheesesteak egg rolls. Everything was soooo tasty. I been to their other restaurant, West Ave Grille and I just knew this place wouldn't disappoint me. My drink was the banana old fashion which was a nice spin to the traditional old fashion. I also had the Campfire cocktail, I don't remember the waitress mentioning it was coffee in it but it was still a tasty drink. My waitress was amazing btw. I was very happy to see that a new restaurant opened here. It's a great location for the community. The ambiance is bright and the decor feels modern farmhouse. We had a large group for lunch. I arrived late and the server was very accommodating and quick to take my order so that it came out with the rest of the group's meals. I had the blackened mahi mahi tacos - I was glad that they were on corn tortillas, a personal preference. They were good! The fish could have used a little more of the blackened seasoning. The rest of the group was happy with their burgers and salads. Overall, I'd go back - maybe for happy hour next time. read more

I really wanted to like this place but the service was lackluster. My son's meal came out and he was 90% done, I said he could eat before my food arrived after a few minutes, and mine didn't come out for another 13 minutes... absurd. I let them know I didn't want my food anymore after 10 minutes and they brought it out anyway and had me pay full price. It could be a decent place but probably not coming back after that experience. read more

Dinner for 2 last night. The fried chicken sandwich looked great with chicken overflowing the roll. Unfortunately when I removed the breading and looked at the chicken, it was less than a 1/4 inch thick. Thrilled to see that West Ave opened a restaurant where Bernie's was at. Drink - I had the watermelon margarita. It didn't have a watermelon flavor. It was pretty bland. Food - Pretty standard bar food. We had cheesesteak egg rolls with spicy ketchup. The ketchup wasn't spicy, the egg rolls wasn't crisp and was pretty oily. The burger was pretty good and the fried chicken sandwich was ok. Both sandwiches had way too much sauce. The french fries were pretty soggy. read more

WAY overpriced. Although I appreciate a thoughtful and spicy cocktail, a drink that costs $15.80 off the regular menu is just too expensive. It's a turnoff. We aren't downtown and the service is very delayed; both table side and at the bar. Servers/ Bartenders are nice and professional. read more

We were just at the bar during happy hour. The food prices were great and the food was good. There was no drink menu, but the price for drinks at happy hour was listed as $6. Drafts were $4. We ordered two margaritas and a draft in addition to some food. When the check came, the margaritas were listed as two tequila shots at $10 each plus one margarita at $6. I asked the bartender what that meant. She expained that the tequila was charged for each drink and that the $6 charge was to make them margaritas. I did'nt want to go further with this with my guest, so I called and asked to speak to a manager an hour later. They put me on hold then I was cut off. I then called back and there was no answer. Either that management/bartender is inept or cheating. Not a good show for a newly revived restaurant. read more

As a vegetarian, I love the appetizer options, but there are almost no options for actual meals for us! Food was pricey for what it was, and wasn't worth it, in my opinion. And again, super upset I didn't have many options other than salads. I probably won't go back.
