If you want to go to a cheaper spa this is the place, I went to have a wax for my legs and underarms along with a massage, I have had many before but left right after the leg wax since it was not my vibe, it hurt and wasn't the best job, though for the price pretty good, the vibe was okay, i had an appoinment and they did my appointment 20 minutes late. It was a scary experience. I had a social shopper voucher for a 60 minute facial but I was out of the store by the 45 minute mark. The facial started with the lady rubbing cleanser all over my face, not avoiding the eye area. She then wiped it off with scolding hot water. Afterwards she scrubbed my face for about a minute. Again, wiping it off with towel soaked in hot water. Now comes the oil. She started rubbing oil all over my face, again, not avoiding my eyes ( really stings). She "massaged" my face with the oil then put the steamer on it for 5 minutes and kept "massaging". By now 15 minutes has passed. She then wipes my face with tissue paper and took out the extracting tool. This is the scary part. She started extracting, then I heard "oh shoot". And she quickly sprayed alcohol on the tool. I am about 99% sure the tool was not properly sanitized. Extraction was brief and tool about 2 minutes. She then puts a mask on my face and walked out the room. 20 minutes passed and she came back to wash off the face and put some cream on it. This was the end of my facial experience. After getting up, I saw the extracting tool sitting back on the table in a pencil holder, uncleaned. I can only imagine what kind of bacteria was left on my face. I have broken out from my "facial" experience due to the unsanitary tool use. Will not go back. PLEASE don't put yourself through what I did. read more

There is so much wrong with this place I don't even know where to start. Came here with a girlfriend with a coupon I had for mani-pedis. I don't even want to waste my time giving my structured opinion but I'll just say that I think spas should stick to what they are good at, don't branch out into nail work just to make more money if it's just some random facial/waxing/threading woman doing a sub-par job. Seriously will NEVER stray from my regular Vietnamese place again. It kind of sucks to pay good money to get a manicure that you could EASILY have done way better yourself. Cuticles weren't pushed back, paint work was patchy etc. The pedicures too were ridiculous; no exfoliation at all, just a quick rub with an exfoliator which left my heels ROUGHER than before. No proper seating, we were literally sitting in the waiting area/wraparound couch! And glass bowls they filled in the back. With the competition they are looking at in Vancouver, with massage chairs and foot-soaking, foot massage being almost standard, I really think this place should reconsider offering services that people will not be satisfied with. That said, the only other customers we saw during our stay came for waxing and threading, perhaps that's their forte? Overall, absolutely will not be back. read more

I got a voucher deal from Social Shopper for a 60 minute Thalgo Cleansing Facial at Deux Cihc Esthetiques for $25 (a $50 value). So I called in on Thursday to make an appointment for Saturday. A lady with a heavy accent picked up which made it difficult to understand her. What I interpreted was that she was busy at the moment and that she would call in 15 minutes. She took my name and phone number. When she was talking, she hung up mid sentence. I was already getting bad vibes from this place. I waited for her to return my call. 1 hour goes by. Then several hours. Then the next day...nothing. Since the voucher was expiring in 3 weeks, I was anxious to redeem it as soon as possible. No call ever came back. I guess I was too lazy...also, the following week, I was sick, so I didn't go. Plus, I started reading some negative reviews on the place on Yelp and decided that perhaps I wont do any facials at a place where there were many complaints. It sucks that I would lose out on the deal, but I would still be able to use the amount that I paid ($25) at the salon. I decided to get a massage or something that was safer than risking my facial skin at a sketchy salon. I emailed them to ask about the massages I could get for $25 worth. I never got a reply back. So don't even bother emailing them. I was in the area so I went into the shop in person. I talked to an unfriendly, no-smiling staff and asked if I could redeem my voucher for $25 as any deal sites states that the amount you paid for the deal never expires. That makes sense. You paid $25 - so even though the $50 deal has expired, the $25 is still valid after the deadline. But the staff argued that once the voucher expired, it is worth nothing. This was outrageous. I have used another voucher that expired and we used it for the amount that was paid. It's like a gift card or certificate. It was a nice spring Sunday around noon and the salon was empty, though the main person was apparently working on a customer in the back. I was starting to agree to some of the review that states that the positive 5 start reviews for this place is fake. The staff then told me that since she wasn't sure how long the person would take to finish, so she told me to book an appointment and she would call if there was a problem using the voucher. I booked for a head massage which is exactly $25 for the following weekend. I came back for the head massage for 25 minutes. She used oil to nourish the hair and make is more comfortable during the massage. She and the other staff kept talking while I sat in the normal seat where you'd get your hair cut or set. She didn't have enough change to break a $20 bill so I had to pay the taxes and tip on my credit card. Since you're suppose to leave the oil in your hair for some time, I left the salon with really oily/greasy hair. I was hoping to do some shopping in the area, but it was too oily to be out in public - like I hadn't washed in over 2 weeks or something. So I went straight home. I am pissed. The woman who did my brows did such a shoddy job. I've been getting brow threading for 8 years, and have never had such a painful experience. The lip wax was abysmal. She smeared wax all over my lips - yes, you read that correctly. All over my actual lips. She put on so much and ripped it all off so quickly and improperly that I look like I got punched in the mouth. I'd never come here again. So unimpressed. I bought pedicure deal vouchers for my girlfriend and I for her birthday which we were overall happy with. We were able to get our pedis done at the same time, there were no other services going on at the time so we did not experience them running around dealing with multiple clients at a time. There was a guest who walked in and inquired about getting her eyebrows done and they politely told her she could return in half an hour to get them done and gave us their full attention. The ladies we had were really great about our "birthday celebration" and took pictures and had good fun with us. The decor in the place is fantastic!! Love the idea of sitting on the couch-style but have to agree with another review on here that it doubles up as the waiting bench. Luckily there were no people waiting, but had there been they would have been sitting beside me. Overall, we both left happy with our pedicures and service. read more

I went to this spa for a birthday party with 6 other friends. We scheduled a mani, pedi, and a facial. There wasn't many people when we got there. I saw two older ladies getting their nails done, but the left soon after the last guest came. It was sort of like a private party. The atmosphere was okay, the decor was pretty. However, when a friend and I went to the back to find a washroom, it looked very old. In some places, the paint was coming off! There were 3 employees there. One was very kind and answered our questions (one of my friends didn't go for mani's often). The other two weren't as friendly. I think one of them specialized in nails, the other was for threading/facials, and the last for waxing. It was great for our little party; they left us have food there and everything. They did the birthday girl's eyebrows threaded (just a little bit) for free, and also opened the shop for a few minutes longer to finish up on everyone. However, when we got home, a friend noticed that one of her nails was chipped already. They had missed a few parts on my toes, too, and I like having my whole nail covered. The experience was nice; I don't go to get mani's often, but I could tell that some parts of their mani were not very good. It's great for a party, and great for just some fun, but if you are looking for a professional one, I'd say to go somewhere else. read more

Worst mani pedi I have ever had! They had 3 different people work on my nails periodically. Left me sitting for 30 minutes while they went to work on other clients. My cuticles were not cleaned properly, I had to point out areas where the skin was sticking up. Super thick application of polish, 2 layers at the same time, which does not give it enough time to dry. My toenails are not cut evenly and one is jagged. They massage your hands and feet with cream AFTER applying the nail polish. It ruined my friend's toenails, the woman had to redo the polish. My fingers and cuticles were left dry because no cream could be applied to them. Polish was not cleaned off of my skin. My nails and toes look terrible! I am very upset that I paid full price for this place and for those people who got the groupon, it is not worth it either! I feel bad because I took my friend for her birthday. Terrible place, I will never go back and never recommend it to anyone. read more

I had a manicure last Friday with Rani and it was literally the best manicure I've ever had. Here I am more than 7 days later and I only have one small chip on my index finger! They offer a bunch of different OPI colors - some subtle, some are bright and fun. They also do a great job with their threading. It was a rainy, quiet day when I was there, so I had time to talk about skin care with Tanya and she's just so knowledgable. I get my waxing and eyebrow threading here. Rani is great, she is thorough, quick and relatively painless. They do a fantastic job with my brows, which I like to keep full but well shaped. Most other places SUCK at this. Seriously, there have been a few times I've gone to another place out of laziness and then regretted it immediately. Having to draw in your eyebrows for weeks while they they grow out is the worst. They may seem a bit curt but you just have to be clear in explaining you're expecting / want, they genuinely care about keeping their customers happy. Booked a 5 person party mani/pedi with wine and strawberries through a social shopper deal. It was for my sister's birthday and I wanted to do something special for her. Overall experience was good. The girls doing our mani/pedis were quite friendly and talkative. However, at the end of our 2.5hour session the boss lady seemed impatient and it felt like she was wanting us to leave. She started packing up the strawberries and wine before we even finished. I thought it was a bit rude. Overall good experience, other than the end. I have had such great experiences at this little neighbourhood spa that I had to write a review here on Yelp (which I seldom take the time to do!). I first heard about Deux Chic through a groupon for a manicure/pedicure. I was thrilled that I took a chance and purchased two, as I found the service, quality and pricing to be fantastic. Manicures usually only last a few days on me, but the girls at Deux Chic take their time and I find my nails last forever. They have a great but not overwhelming selection of colours, and I find the service efficient but relaxed. Even more important for me than the quality of the services provided (which are great!) is the service itself. The extra touches like squeezing me in for an appointment before my baby's due date, to allowing me to sneak in a quick manicure while my daughter was sleeping - Rani and her team are fun, kind and obviously take pride in what they do. While I haven't tried the threading there yet, I have overheard other clients say they drive out of their way to come to Deux Chic because they do such a great job. The phone was ringing off the hook today with clients wanting to know if Manjeet was back from vacation so I take it she has a loyal following for threading! If you are looking for a quiet, neighbourhood spa that offers a great place to get your nails done and get tidied up then I highly recommend Rani and her team at Deux Chic. read more

Worst facial ever! I had a Groupon for a facial and eye treatment. The 'eye treatment' consisted of the same product that was put on my face being lathered on my eyelids. My eyes watered for an hour after the facial. I was in and out in 40 minutes. This place has terrible customer service. When I came in for my appt the woman at the front desk was on her cell phone clearly taking a personal call. She motioned for me to come over and, while still on her call, asked to see the Groupon then motioned for me to sit down while she continued her personal conversation. After 5 min she sent me to a back room and told me to change. I was very disappointed to see that she would be doing my facial. She never introduced herself. At one point she put cream on my face then said '10 minutes '. I asked her what she meant and she said 'this stays on for 10 minutes' then she turned off the light and went out of the room. I sat in the dark with no music and waited for her return. I felt like I was in a time out. There was nothing relaxing about this facial! Never go here!!!! read more

This is my first time writing a review. But I almost feel like it's my duty to warn every girl about this place. I honestly do not want anyone to go through what I did as I know a lot of people bought vouchers for this place just like me. I bought two indulge living vouchers for $15 each for eyebrow and upper lip threading and brazilian wax. What a good deal right? BOY WAS I WRONG. I've had many brazilians before at le petite spa and it was great. I could hold the pain. But here, I felt like I was getting my skin ripped apart. It was so painful, I thought I saw blood everywhere on my first strip. But thank goodness it was just the pink wax. Unlike other places, they just slop on so much wax and apply a huge strip and sometimes the beautician had to do one strip over again because the strip did not fully seal. Imagine getting the same hairs repulled! I should have stopped after the first strip but I kept going and when you're in the middle of it there's almost like no where out. I sweated so much through out the service that my entire sheet was wet and when I finished my service I could hardly walk. This is my first bad experience with Brazilian and I hope no one has to go through this. I went and bought hydrogen peroxide to clean up afterwards because there was some blood afterwards. I know this is exaggerating but if I'm ever going to be in so much pain down there I want to be in labour! The threading was also painful (brought tears to my eyes) but it was short and I've never had it done before so I can't compare. Girls, do not be fooled by the exterior, because the back room I did my brazilian was hardly furnished. It had holes in the walls and a tiled wall like an old gym shower. I should have taken that as a hint and ran... Never going back again...don't know if I can handle a brazilian again for a while either... read more

I had my facial done there today. There was a Russian lady did my facial at the beginning. After I lied down, she asked me what kind of skin type I have. I was so shocked that she asked me this question. A professional aestician should be able to tell you your skin type when she looks at your skin. This is a very basic skill. Even for an aestecian who just came out from a beauty school is able to judge that. I have never had any beauty trainings. But I can tell what kind of skin types each person has when I look at someone's face. I don't believe a professional aestician has to ask her customer which skin type she has. After she cleaned and exfoliated my skin, she started to tone. I felt that is a little bit strange of the procedure she performed. I had done facials hundreds times and people usually steam my face before they tone. Then I asked her if she was going to steam my face because she toned without steaming my face and removing blackheads ahead. I was trying to understand if steaming and black head removals are included in the facial. She was then YELLED, yes, it was YELLED, at me by saying I did not want people to teach me how to do. I know what I should do. I was very polite when I asked her if she would steam my face. It was just a normal question. Why would I be mean? Then she was the first one who gave me an attitude. I think a mature customer service person should stay calm in front of her customers, even if her customers are difficult. Ability of handling difficult customers is a prove of your successful customer service and interpersonal skills. But I was not being difficult, I was just asking her a simple question she already be meant to me first. I have had facials over ten years and I have never encountered an aestician that rude. My impression to aesticians is: they have good interpersonal skills and they are all sweet talkers. This aestician is so distinct. Then I said I was gonna to complain about her and I asked her who is the manager. She told me she was the owner. Then we started to argue and she left home and found another lady to help me. She was trying to defence to that lady that she did not do anything wrong. Obviously she was the one who started the fire. So who was wrong first? Then that lady helped me to do the facial. She told me that Russian lady was not the owner. So she was lying to me she was an owner? But that's fine. The second lady sale me to add-on an eye brow threading. I said I could not do eye brow threading as it was too painful to me. Then I said I would prefer to do eye brow waxing instead and she did that for me. But a tiny piece of my skin was torn off. She did not even apologize to me about that. It seems like nothing had happened. When I checked the blackheads on my nose, 80% are still there. It seems like there was no difference before and after the facial. They are located at a busy location at Kitsilano and the spa has nice decorations. Why do they have to sale so cheap and still not so much business? There must be a reason. They are not professional at all. Don't go there. read more

I am an experienced waxee (brazilian) and I have had some bad experiences- trust me! I booked here cause I couldn't get in at my usual place and I was very pleasantly surprised! The ladies were really nice, they were right on time, quick and painless (well- as painless as waxing that area can be!). When the final tab came in at less than half of what I was used to paying I was pretty impressed! I also noticed they were quite hygienic and didn't "double dip" in the wax- they always used a new stick- which is good because double dipping can transmit diseases such as Hep C. After a previous bad experience, I used yelp to find good reviews of beauticians in my neighbourhood and found Deux Chic. The staff are friendly and professional and put me at ease straight away. I felt confident both ladies were trained and competent and the place is really clean and comfortable. Rani did my Brazilian bikini wax and it is by far the best I have had in Vancouver, and very reasonably priced. I was extremely happy and will definitely be returning! I can definitely recommend Deux Chic to anyone for this treatment, and no doubt I'll be returning to try some others too myself! read more

The only reason I've been coming here is to see Manjeet who used to be at Dona Lucia's on Broadway, but now I've been told she's away in India and won't be back for another month or so.. I'm really hoping it's true because when she left from Lucia's they first told me she was on vacation, then extended vacation, then just not with them anymore. I went there for full face threading (incl. eyebrows), and I'm definitely going back. The esthetician was very friendly, made me feel comfortable, no annoying small talk that makes me nervous. She was very quick and accurate, and she actually asked me to check and see if I was pleased with the shape of my eyebrows. I've been to Dona Lucia before (on WBroadway and WGeorgia), and I've also been to Rescue (on Granville). Honestly, Deux Chic is just much better, I'm just annoyed I didn't go there before. I mean, at Dona Lucia, I was told that wax would be easier, so the esthetician would just switch to wax saying that threading hurts more, even though I told her that wax makes my skin flare up for days afterwards. When I finally got a hold of someone they made me an appointment for Saturday at 5:30. After leaving work and paying for parking I go to the salon is closed!!! I got a social shopper deal for a mani-pedi here from a friend for Christmas and finally got around to using it. The girl who did my mani-pedi was just subpar at best and eventually I ended taking the polish off at home and redoing it myself. I appreciate the fast service but really it was a bad paint job. No massage chair, or feet soaking tub which I appreciate at all the other salons I normally go to. The polish colour selection they had wasn't great but I think they're better suited as a waxing/threading place than a nail salon. All in all it was good customer service, but not great quality for a manicure/pedicure. read more
