By far the best restaurant pizza we have had on the west coast (best street style pizza was Pellicola pizzeria DTLA). As a riverside native, I love the Backstreet patio and was excited to return in an evening setting. Husband and I did a short hike up Mt. rubidoux then enjoyed a romantic dinner at Devereaux House. We agreed it was one of the better date nights we have had in Riverside. We went on deftones and chess night. There was an excellent curated music playlist, chess boards everywhere, candle and string lights, and a really solid wine list. Ambiance was10/10. We tried the salad, meatballs, two pizzas, and an orange wine. Everything was 10/10. Service was insanely fast for how busy the place was (not an empty table in sight). The line to order appeared long but moved quick due to competent staff. Choosing a wine was a delight with a knowledgeable server happy to pour us tasters until we chose our bottle. I came here with my friend on a Saturday night after a crazy month of working dawn to dusk. We were really looking forward to the food and ambiance, but were severely disappointed in our meal. The pictures posted by the business are extremely misleading. The pizza we received looked like corporate chain pizza which also lacked the homemade crust and sauce we expected. Either the recipe changed from when the pictures were posted, or it was an advertisement trap. The ambiance was great though. I loved the lights and decor. Another table also played mario kart and the switch which looked like lots of fun. Logistics-wise was a bit confusing. We parked in a lot across the restaurant. And I wasn't able to find a clear entrance and just walked through open gates and tables. I think you order at the bar and seat yourself/someone will seat you if it's busier. Absolutely love this place! I went there for a date night and it was such a great experience. The food was delicious--we got the pesto pizza, which was absolutely amazing. One of the servers recommended a bottle of wine, and we both really enjoyed it. The service was perfect. You order at the front, which makes it nice to have your own space with your partner, but if you need anything, the staff is always there to help. The atmosphere was incredible--probably one of the coolest spots I've seen here in Riverside. They had live music and a beautiful outdoor section, which I highly recommend sitting in. When me and my boyfriend arrived we ordered at the front and got sat down right away . We ordered a yuzu cocktail a glass of wine and the hot honey pepperoni pizza . Wow, wow, wow!! I can't believe this kind of establishment exists in the Inland Empire. The ambience, food, vibes, reminded me of a Northern California establishment. I came here for the first time to catch up with an old friend. We were immediately greeted by the owner and offered a free wine tasting. After choosing our wines to pair with our food, the owner suggested we try the chef's special which was the Short Rib pizza. And wow! That pizza was one of the best pizza's I've had in my life. The vibes at Devereaux House are always amazing. Whether it be going out for an amazing selection of wine or to enjoy the live music on a weekend, it's always a fun place to unwind at. Great wine bar in Riverside!! Plan on having mostly pizza, I think they have 1-2 rotating appetizer type dishes but otherwise mostly pizza. We liked all of the pizzas except for anchovy, don't get that one lol. It's about $20 per pizza and we got about 6 for 10 people which was fitting. Ambiance is great. If they have live music it's a bit loud but loved the outdoor atmosphere with the candles. It's mostly a serve yourself type restaurant but I do think they need more places to access plates, napkins, etc for customers to help themselves as it was difficult to obtain these while we were there. AMAZING WINE OFFERINGS! This is one of my favorite places for some good wine and a good vibe. They have different wine offerings, beer, and spritz. Service is amazing. They check on you continuously and everyone is so so nice and helpful. I've been able to try different wines and get to order more things at the table. I have had charcuterie boards here, handmade noodles, and pizza! For the most part food offering are great! The handmade noodles were so soft and tasty! The charcuterie was delicious. Both pizzas I have had on different occasions have been burnt to a char at the bottom. Every bite tasted like ashes. While the toppings are delicious i do wish the pizza was not charred. Service The servers are always so kind and attentive. The last time I went with a larger party (10+ people), it was hard to access extra napkins and water, but the staff was still so accommodating and my friend's birthday celebration went off without a hitch :) You should definitely be able to accommodate smaller/medium sized parties with ease, but maybe give a heads up for larger parties. The band "midnight snack" performed tonight with talented individuals. Would definitely want to hear them play again. The short rib pizza had a rich Gouda cheese and jus to dip. You place your order upfront, pay, take a number and choose a place to sit. The staff will bring out your order. If u need to order additioanal drinks or food, you repeat the process. I think it's a good system for groups. Everyone can order and pay for their own things and not not have to worry about splitting the check. Food is on the higher price range, but not crazy. Not sure what happened last night, maybe expectations were too high. Highlights: our server and live music. Unfortunately our pizza was nothing like ANY of the pictures that enticed us to try this place out. Their wine selection is good however I would recommend either getting a whole bottle or just the cocktails as a single pour runs about $15-20. Next their meatballs were about a quarter (coin) in size, first disappointment, very small, and tough except for the last one that broke apart and seemed more fresh than the rest. Next came the pizza, first impression was not pretty on the eyes like the photos mentioned before. Clearly something had gone wrong with the crust, either under proofed, over proofed, or EXTREMELY over worked. But we still gave it a try. This was one of the hardest crusts to chew, I've never had cardboard pizza, until last night. Crust was hard and tough. For having one item on the menu you would think this is a perfected dish. Menu prices could use some work as it doesn't seem logical to charge the same price for a "barely anything there" topping pizza and another that has significant amount of toppings. Cheese didn't seem like it was being made in house to charge such a price for cheese pizza and looks nothing like the photo seen on others reviews for the same flavor. It seems like consistency in quality is another major issue here. I love pizza, I'm a pizza carni-asado so being disappointed by pizza was something I didn't think was possible. I loved the texture of the pizzas and each had plenty of flavor to go along with it! I preferred the clam casino over the margherita, as the combination of clam, dill, and garlic really brought it home for me. The salmon rilletes were very refreshing and served as an awesome appetizer to the pizza. The waitress regularly checked in with us and always had a smile on her face. We've been coming here awhile and always enjoy the wine and beer selections. Friendly staff, good pizza, good music, and a chill vibe. That's why this last visit was so disappointing. The seating situation was a mess. We've always seated ourselves without issue, but this time a newer staff member immediately questioned us about reservations when we walked in. As we were walking into the patio she asked if we knew where we were going. Odd, but fine. Then after we had already ordered and settled in, she came back asking if we had a reservation because the table was reserved. There was no reserved sign when we sat down and she even acknowledged that, but still said it was reserved. Instead of handling it properly with management she asked us to move to another table that was marked reserved and told us it was available until 9pm. So now we're being shuffled around and put on a timer mid-meal. We spent a decent amount of money expecting a relaxing night out, not to be rushed and inconvenienced like that. To top it off, no one checked on us the rest of the night. We had to flag her down for refills. Overall, it felt disorganized and poorly managed. What's changed? Vibes and live music were pretty cool but they definitely need to work on their customer service and drink selection. My party of 4 was already seated for about 20 minutes and we were having a good time, when one of the servers (or manager i don't know exactly who she was) comes up and INTERROGATES us on who exactly sat us where we were seated and why...we had already checked in and opened 2 tabs soooo that's not our problem, go resolve that with your team.
