Stopped in to pick up our annual bottle of 2024 Triple Cream Sherry. Matthew, the family's next generation winemaker, poured for us their new Viognier and the Petite Sirah, both with fruit sourced from Lodi, CA vineyards. They made a nice effort for their first try at wines other than their Sherry, which they excel in. We mentioned that we have a 1992 Triple Cream Sherry and wondered how they were drinking now, should we open now or can it still sit, etc. Since they had one open in the back, they poured us a little bit and it was still fantastic! Super friendly staff, Rancho de Philo opens up to the public for wine sales once a year in November for just 1 week. They sell out in no time, and for good reason, the quality of their product is top shelf. The Sherry is out if this world!! We've been coming here yearly for about 10yrs and buying a couple of bottles. It's always a beautiful atmosphere with music and cheer! We look forward to it. A small quaint winery that was built by the former president of Brookside Winery. Open to the public for Sherry sales for a short time each November. The quality of the Triple Cream Sherry is outstanding. The winery started selling Sherry to the public in the mid 70's. You would be doing yourself a favor if you were to stop by on the weekend in November take a tour and sample their Sherry. Mark November on your calendar. You see, this tiny, family winery is only open in November, and only as long as their stock lasts. You get a private announcement in the mail once a year to let you know they are getting ready for opening day. They only do one thing, SHERRY. And it is the most divine sherry ever. You have to buy several bottles, not because they say so, but because once you open your first bottle, it will magically disappear and you won't have more to allow it to age. This sherry ages so well, we have some more than 8 years old now, and it is priceless. It is so sippable it will blow your socks off and your eyes will roll in the back of your head. Yes, that wonderful. It wins blue ribbons at the LA County Fair almost every year. And that is before it ages. Opening day is very special. They hire a Renaissance instrumental quartet for live music, give you a taste of that year's (and sometimes the years prior), have some appetizers to nibble, and the owners graciously smooze and greet their guests. You get to go into the musty old barn where they store their wine barrels and do their blending, and sniff that gorgeous smell. And all for free. You actually forget for an instant that your are in crazy So. Cal and feel all warm and huggy. This is a special place and a opening day is such a special event. We go, rain or shine. I know there is at least one restaurant that carries limited stock of their sherry, Le Rendezvous in San Bernardino, if you want a taste preview. Had no idea I liked triple cream sherry but a friend assured me to give it a try. So we embarked on an adventure and was not disappointed. The owners gave us full permission to wander the grounds and contemplate the universe, with a little sherry in hand. A wonderful hidden gem in Rancho Cucamonga. This winery produces one wine, its award-winning triple cream sherry, and is only open one week in November every year. My wife and I are not sherry fans, but enjoyed our samples of Rancho de Philo's 2013, which was excellent, and the 2012, which was sublime. We bought a bottle of the 2012 for our New Year's Eve celebration, but we're considering a return trip ASAP since we probably won't be able to wait to open it up. Kudos to the friendly staff for making us and the other guests welcome. We chatted with owner Allen for a few minutes and he gave us some pairing suggestions (three words: vanilla ice cream) before regaling us with a few anecdotes about his wine. Highly recommended. I've had this place bookmarked for years, and I finally decided to get off my ass and do something about it. There are a couple of things you should know: First off, they annually open to the public for one week in November, so you either need to sign up for their mailing list, or know someone who is on mailing list when they send out the notice of their opening. Second, their primary product is triple creme sherry. In all honesty, I don't really drink wine or sherry, but I was completely intrigued by both the name of the product (I mean, who can resist something that's called "triple cream sherry")and the fact that this place has awesome reviews. Even more intriguing is the fact that this place is located in a residential area, so don't get thrown off by this fact when you visit it the first time. The staff here is amazing. They tell you both the history and the process of how the sherry is made, which was completely news to me. Best of all, they offer samples of their current vintage, and sometimes, the prior year's vintage. This place is definitely worth a visit. read more

I learned about this winery from Wendy B. last year. She alluded to it in one of her more recent reviews and I tracked it down. Because I live in Northern California, I called rather than stopped by the winery. I ordered some of their sherry, 4 bottles. That's the minimum you can buy. The owner and I got into a lovely extended conversation. I can't remember the content, just the feeling of pleasant connection. I didn't write this review until I had drunk the sherry, so the details are no longer as vivid as they would have been had I written it a year ago. I didn't open the first bottle until I finished the bottle of Lustau East India Solera I had on hand and that took a few months. I just finished the first bottle of Rancho de Philo. It was luscious, rich and sweet w/o being cloying. A couple of weeks or so ago I received a postcard from the winery, alerting me that sherry would soon be available. I'm debating whether to call them and order another 4 bottles, or to wait until next year. What to do, what to do? This is the best kept secret in Rancho Cucamonga. They are only open for 1 week every year. The Sherry is unlike any Sherry I've ever tasted prior, and after having theirs. Their Triple Cream Sherry is absolutely amazing! You pair this up with a chocolate soufle and its absolute to die for. I am in the restaurant business and not a single person who I have tasted this on has not liked it. If you are a wine drinker more specific red wine drinker than you know how well chocolate goes with red wine. A 10-20yr Tawny Port and chocolate is a relationship. This Triple Cream Sherry and chocolate is a marriage matched in heaven!! Can't wait for November! And you have got to educate yourself on the Solara System they use to produce and bottle their Triple Cream Sherry!! This is a great place to get one of the best sherries produced. I visit here to purchase my annual bottles when they are open in the beginning of November. It's really fun to talk , taste, and visit at this winery. They interact with the visitors and are more than willing to answer any and all questions of their production and the local history. Each and every year we make a trip to Rancho de Philo Whiney to buy a bottle or two of their DELICIOUS Triple Cream Sherry! We used to buy extras to give as gifts, but since we've done that, now most of our friends all buy it for themselves!! Just sipping on a small glass of this Sherry as an apéritif, and/or on a cool evening before bed in front of your fireplace, gives you a warm, cozy feeling inside!! Highly recommend! I have been coming here for years for the Triple cream sherry after having tasted it at the LA county fair, where it was a gold medal winner. No matter where you're coming from it's worth the drive. Make sure you read the description before you come because it is only open to the public for a few weeks. But if you can, it's great purchase. This is the 3rd year we've stopped by to pick up a bottle during their annual sherry sale. Once again, they've got a fantastic tasting bottle of sherry for 2016. They are a small family owned winery and when we popped in to pick up a bottle, we didn't have time to enjoy a long tasting, but I did taste it while I was paying for the bottle! I listen to podcasts when i go to bed and happened to hear a food podcast talk about this hidden gem of a winery in Rancho Cucamonga that only sold one wine, triple cream sherry. In the podcast they were talking about soaking pomegranate arils in this sherry for about 2 to 3 hours and then enjoying it. So i decided i would try it, went there yesterday, was greeted warmly and tasted one of the samples. Talk about love at first taste...whew! We came and we were welcomed by the owners to give us a sample of sherry and pomegranate jelly. I didn't like sherry before I tasted theirs. It was delicious and no sharpness leave in my tongue. What a cool experience. I had some of their Triple Cream Sherry at friends houses around the Holidays for the past couple of years and was determined to get there for their sale this year. I went today and I guess I lucked out because I was the only one there at the time. Meeting Janine and her husband Alan made my day. Not that I don't think that they wouldn't spend the time with anyone, no matter how many people were there, to explain the business and the product that they are so proud of, and rightfully so. Like most, my experience with sherry is very limited, but with the name Triple Cream, and the pride that is obvious in their love of their sherry Janine inherited from her father, I was excited to buy a couple of bottles. I came to this gem of a place hidden in the hills of Rancho. It was so good that I had to return and bring my mother. The sherry wine is delicious. Not too sweet, not too dry. The lovely couple gave a grand tour, showing the entire wine-making process. I can't wait for them to win another gold medal so I can return with my 2012 bottle and get a sticker! Love this place and the fact that it is local is even better! I just wish that it was open longer than one week out of the year. This winery is family owned/operated and the business is run out from their home. Everyone is very friendly and when you visit, you can taste their triple cream sherries from various years. The triple cream sherries here are fantastic and often winners of multiple awards. Their sherries are perfect for the holidays and pair well with chocolates and desserts. You'll often find customers here stocking up on sherry before the holidays hit. They are open to the public usually the around the first or second Saturday of November and remain open for a week there after, or until they run out of sherry. FYI: Seldomly, are they open longer than a week as this place is quite popular among locals. If you are a sherry lover, or want to visit this local and legendary winery, I highly recommend be placed on their mailing list. They will send you a postcard mid October, letting you know the specific date in November they will be open for business. read more

This place is very unique. From the design to the product quality. So many options.. wine lovers can see and appreciate the different kind of wines and where they came from. It's hard to taste the difference between a good and bad wine but when you have the experience- you can definitely feel the difference as soon as you sip it. We first experienced this unique winery back in the late 80's. Back when Philo was giving personal tours of the facility. What an absolute delight to hear and experience his passion for his product. We were fortunate enough to be able to buy a case at each of the releases we attended. Because of that we not only enjoyed this unique and deeply flavorful Sherry, but we're able to gift a bottle or 2 to friends & family. We apparently gave a bottle to my wife's youngest sister & her husband as a going away gift when they moved to Ohio back in the early 90's and vowed to share it with them whe we came to visit. Ohio has not been at the top of our "must see" destinations. We did however finally go for a week this May of 2016. Long story short.... The bottle was there.... We opened and enjoyed all the flavors (none which were vinegar I might add) that are uniquely their trademark tripple cream cherry. read more
