Location and ambiance! This little place had both! We got here early on a Sunday morning and were immediately seated. I liked the place so much I probably would have been happy with just a cup of coffee, which was good and strong. But of course we had breakfast and were not disappointed. From the bakery to the eatery next door, you can't lose when coming here. IMO, the best baked goodies are: walnut croissant and Mexican Wedding cookie. The eatery is warm, inviting, and has a crowd for good reason. Their biscuits are divine and I have to make room for it. hubs saw this place written up in the denver post - he asked if i wanted to try it. i wasn't super jazzed as it was the weekend and i knew it'd be busy, but WOWZA am i glad we ventured out! we started off at the cookery, which while small, only had a 30 minute wait on a sunday morning. they seated us outside on the cute little patio. my only real complaint about this place was the tepid water that was served. we asked that it be replaced with iced water.... and seriously, THAT is my only con! This place is phenomenal! we ordered a variety of items, mostly because i could not make up my mind, and because hubs wants me to have what i want. every bit of it was absolutely delicious!! biscuit with butter and jam (the butter is house made!!), a biscuit with gravy, the quiche of the day, cornbread waffle with green chile and eggs, shrimp and grits..... and i wanted to try the brandy brûléed grapefruit, but they had run out. the biscuits were incredibly fresh and soft, the cornbread waffle was unique and tasty (it was topped with pulled pork that was super tender) .... but the shrimp and grits?? literally THE BEST i've ever tasted! (and i've tasted a lot - it's one of my favorite dishes!) The cookery does it RIGHT!!!! we ended this trip over at the bakery with items to take home.... hubs loved the buckeye, but we bought a kouign-amman to bring home as well as a lemon tart, and an almond croissant. (i kind of love that he lets me get all my favorites!!) all of these were superb! perfectly crispy where they should be crispy and plenty of flakiness to make a mess everywhere..... but the lemon tart STOLE THE SHOW!! creamy with the perfect amount of lemony tart! added to REAL vanilla bean whipped cream and the perfect crust! i wish we would have bought two! i neglected to snap photos of the pastries before i gluttonously shoved them in my face, so you'll have to go see for yourself this slice of heaven! If you want the table side service, go to south side original ocation. If you want the coffee and pastries, go to the newer north side. Bit confusing but only for first timer like me. North side is perfect for quick bite to eat and have some drinks. South side with full menu and table side service. Went to the north side, grabbed some treats and walked to the south side and got awesome seating at the back patio. I always loved the decor and patio and delight. Little bit too wild for sweet gf. Food was bit over priced. My burrito was filled mostly with big chunk of potatoes. Had no flavor. Is it one of those "good for you" entry? French toast looked great but the same story. Line out the door! Ok, maybe that's partially because only 5 people are allowed inside at one time, but there probably would have been a short line out the door had there been no restrictions. The staff were great, very sweet. I got a lemon macaroon and a mint tea. He let me know to steep my tea for 4 minutes and that the bag had two cups worth of life so if I was still around later to come back in and get more water added to my cup. Very thoughtful. This review is for the bakery/coffeeshop side of Devil's Food which I've visited a handful of times. My family lives very close, making it one of my favorite places to walk to for a coffee and sweet treat, or to visit after a run around Wash Park. The coffee menu is pretty extensive. I usually opt for an espresso macchiato, but had a nitro cold brew my last visit which was quite tasty! To eat, I really enjoy their cookies. They usually have about four different types available. The snickerdoodle has been my fave so far! I also like picking up pastries to bring home or to friends as a surprise. There are other drinks available like tea (no matcha though) and a refrigerated section with some craft bevvies like CBD infused sparkling water. There's plenty of seating inside if you want to hang out (and marvel at the ceiling). I really love how you can see into the bakery. Gaylord Street is a special place in the hood and this will forever be one of my favorite stops! Next up, I know I need to try the cookery! read more

The iced latte I ordered was good, but I was entranced with all the cute latte arts so I might get mine hot next time just for that lol I decided to try a pastry since all of them looked so aesthetically pleasing and I randomly chose the blueberry strudel which I'm SO glad I did. Absolute blueberry heaven and so crispy on the outside. It's gonna be hard during my next visit because I don't know if I can resist not getting one of every pastry. I adore this place for breakfast/brunch. It's adorable and the food has pleased me both times I've been there. Our servers were nice and our main server even brought me a new drink when I didn't like my dirty chai. I got the ratatouille, which I was expecting to hate a bit for brunch... but it was amazing. They poached the eggs PERFECTLY. The veggies were so delicious and fresh. My friend ordered a cornbread waffle for the table, and it was so good. Great for sharing! She also got the Benedict eggs.... those were good too, but the highlight was the potatoes. "How did you fit Thanksgiving into these potatoes?!" My other friend got the French toast. After waiting an hour for this restaurant to put quiche in a to go container, I tried to cancel my order. The general manager, John Edwards, tried to refuse the refund, then physically and sexually assaulted me by grabbing my left arm and then my left breast. I videoed the incident and contacted the police. Edwards escalated the incident, elongated it, he violated my physical space. He should be ashamed of how he handled this. The owners should fire him. The Denver police investigated the incident and verified that I was physically assaulted. The DA gave me the option to pursue the issue in court or to avoid court and the police would educate the owners and employees of the restaurant on how not to assault customers. Because the incident was traumatic enough, I decided to drop the charges and opted for the aggressor to be educated. The most disappointing part of the entire incident is that the owner, Angela, has refused my calls and has taken no action to apologize or to check on me, a female assaulted in her establishment. I was a frequent customer. Angela should be deeply ashamed of herself and her staff. read more

Ordered 4 things at the bakery, all of them fantastic. Truly probably the best plain croissant in the mainland USA. Haven't had one this good since visiting France. The Cookery is incredible. We first learned about Devil's Food while watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives when their Hedge Hog, a chocolate covered red velvet cake ball, was the featured product. And, we've have been driving here from Castle Pines ever since. This is a two-part eatery, one side is the bakery and the other is the restaurant. At the restaurant, everything from the shrimp and grits to the farmer's mac & cheese, which is a creamy M&C with and over easy egg. Please note, however, the menu changes frequently. Ok, back to the bakery....believe it or not, we driver early on Saturday and Sunday mornings for the buttermilk donuts and the Kouign Amann, pronounced: Queen A-mon If you've never had a Kiuign Amann, well....it's a flakey, crunchy, sweet version of BUTTER. I wish I could remember the name of the person who suggested we put chocolate ganache in the red velvet cake-- but thank you to that man. What a game changer!! The cake was ready for me at my pick up time and the price point was super reasonable for the wonderful quality of service and product we received. I couldn't recommend this place more! I came here today with a single goal: to eat a cinnamon roll. I hadn't been told about the cinnamon rolls at Devil's Food rather i stumbled upon it's deliciousness while yelping for a coffee shop to do homework in. At first glance I felt invited into the charming little shop as it was a beautiful day and their windows open up as doors to the walkway outside. The first thing you notice is the display case with tasty treats screaming out at you to be eaten. Once I walked in more fully I lost the sense of living in the city and instead enjoyed the cozy country homey atmosphere with canned pickles, preservatives, and dried flowers lining the little shelves along the wall. At the register I ordered a London fog and of course the prize I was seeking, a cinnamon roll. I then set about finding a seat when I noticed the perfect row of chairs that made a bar for computer users behind the counter. After setting myself up for an hour of homework, I dug into my drink and treat. The cream cheese frosting on my roll was light and fluffy and generously dolloped onto my pastry. My only reserve would be that it was not warm or warmed up which would have just sent me over the moon. They may offer i just didn't think to ask. All in all, an 8$ well spent and I would recommend anyone looking for a wonderful little cafe to try this wonderful place out. read more

Went here for brunch with a group of 6, we were lucky that we came early enough and were able to get seated together, but I wouldn't recommend anything over 4 people here as it could be a long wait. That being said, this place was great even if you have to wait. My latte was perfect and I had the cornbread waffle - perfect!! I added some maple syrup on top because I love sweet and savory. There was so much pulled pork though I ended up giving some away, but no complaints there.
