We love DAM and highly recommend getting meats, deli salads, Homer ice cream, frozen meatballs, soups, pretty much anything. We also get a ham for Easter and have catered the Mac and cheese (amazing). We love the family who owns DAM and they know our son, Michael, and we always look forward to seeing them. Its the only place I buy meat. I usually go to Mariano's then drive over here for all my meats and Marianos is pretty decent. I usually make taco's from the ground sirloin which I love because its double ground. Any negatives about the look of the place can be ignored as they are now out of Morningfields and in their own storefront. read more

This is THE go-to place for quality cuts. The service is super friendly - you can ask them about how to prepare anything you are looking at. They know their stuff. And they are locally owned and have an investment in the community. If you are not familiar, there is a huge difference in the quality of product you will get from a place like this and your standard chain store. I was actually just looking up their hours when I saw the Yelp link and had to see what other people had to say. I am actually amazed by some of the ticky-tack 1 and 2 star reviews (read them....laughable). Just left. Last time I'll go there. Asked for a Rump Roast. Was told that they don't carry them. Asked how a "Butcher" doesn't carry part of the Round primal. Was told that it's a low quality meat, lol! Meanwhile, 2/3 of the store is frozen food and Boar's Head crap. If you really read other reviews, people are just impressed with an experience that is different from the supermarket. DAM may have a butcher counter and some decent cuts of meat; but it is a far cry from being an actual butcher with a real selection. A real butcher would be able to supply a simple roast and know that all different cuts are delicious when the proper cooking method is used. read more

With the new location, Devon Avenue Meats have seriously improved not only the variety of the foods they serve, but they have continued to maintain the high quality, friendly and PERSONAL counter service, and really kept the prices consumer friendly. The seasonal frozen soups, especially the pumpkin chowder, are always fresh and outstanding. The family favorite is the Italian beef but the chicken nuggets have been loved by my kids and now by my 1 year old grandson. They have included Boar's Head deli meats and cheese, and increased their homemade salads. Greek yogurt used in the chicken walnut salad, and the lobster salad is not only delicious, it is much more heart friendly than most. Can't say enough about the family that runs the place. Vince and family are just very nice people who care about their customers. Only downside for some is that they only take cash or checks. Not a problem for me. I ordered a sandwich platter for a party. Sandwiches were made with Boar's Head meat and cheeses and were made on soft potato rolls (I think). I received many rave reviews from my guests. On their menu in their store they only mention a few types of sandwiches but they are willing to accommodate you with whatever sandwich you would like made. It came with pickles and sandwich condiments on the side. They were arranged very nicely on great party platters. I also ordered both the pecan chicken salad (on the sweeter side) and the lemon dill chicken salad (more savory and my personal favorite) that I placed on my own croissants the day of the party. They were a huge hit! It's made with Greek yogurt as well which I find to be a perk. I will definitely be back. Just know that it is cash or check only. And remember to grab a number right away even if you are just picking up an order since it can get busy. read more

Have been meaning to stop and check out DAM and after having a taste for Philly cheesesteaks I decided to finally pay a visit. I called ahead to see if they had presliced shaved ribeye, or if I had to order ahead. I was told to order ahead at least 4 hours. So, I preordered 1lb for the next day between 2:30-3. I also had inquired about the price over the phone i was told $16.98 a pound. Anyway, I arrived about 2:10 ( yes a little early) it wasn't ready. I was slightly surprised I would have thought it would be prepared a bit ahead of time. Anyway no biggie. I was told I can wAit about 10 minutes or come back. I decided since I was there I rather wait. The man comes out with what looked to be more than a pound asking if i wanted to wrap it separately. Originally i said no. Then Since it looked like it was more than one pound i spoke up. I stated i only wanted one pound. The man shook his head and looked up my order on the wall (post its). Then they ring me up and it was $21 and change. I assumed that that he must have gave me a bit more than pound. When i got home, I weighed the ribeye it was just under a pound.99 according to my home scale. So they also charged me more a pound than i was quoted. Never will go there again. Not my fault you messed up the time the amount and the price. I didn't call to complain about the misquoted price. read more

Where else can you get fresh ground beef for under $2 a pound? Stuffed chicken breast is out of this world. & the guys learn your first name pretty quick. Best choice - Homemade beef jerky. Goes fast & for good reason. Only downside is that the new owners of the store it's located in cut the closing time from 8 pm to 7. Butcher is located inside of Morningfields Market. Great quality meats! Their marinated kabob's are amazing. I can't say enough about this place. LOVE it! Stopped in for fresh shrimp which they didn't have, but that's okay because I walked out with prime rib eye burgers, bacon mozzarella burgers, and two perfectly marbled ribeyes for about $30. Threw some basic Montreal seasoning on them, let them get to room temp for 30 mins, seared both sides and stuck em in a 500 degree oven until they reached 135 degrees. We do this same method with steak three times a week and these steaks from DAM were by far the most delicious steaks we've ever had. We haven't had the burgers but I'm sure they'll be just as amazing. Staff was so friendly and helpful. I'll probably be coming in at least once a week. read more

I needed ground lamb for some Greek stuffed tomatoes I was making. Ground lamb is not too easy to come by but they had ground lamb patties available in their freezer- thank goodness! They were so kind and helpful, it was a great and easy experience. read more

This place is great! They have a freezer full of delicious homemade meals. My kids love their chicken nuggets and I don't feel guilty about feeding it to them! Great fish and meat selection. This place has the best price on capon (fresh or frozen) that I have ever seen anywhere in Chicagoland. I just paid $1.98/lb for fresh capon. I've only seen them frozen at other grocery stores for around double the price per pound. A capon is a castrated rooster. They get bigger and fatter than hens. They're awesome. Much better than regular chicken. Some people with smaller families even use them in lieu of turkey for holidays. read more

WOW! Completely blown away. Went in BC of Facebook garage sale recommendation & yelp reviews. Purchased 2 rib eye steaks, $21 & some change. Cooked on cast iron pan oven & stove top. Most delicious steak I've made at home. (I've only made filet in the past.) The service was informative, including pulling the entire tray of steaks to the side to personally choose which ones we would like to purchase with a line of 2 people behind me. Not rushed whatsoever, explained cuts & gave recommendation of each. Will be back for more!! read more

The evening before Thanksgiving I purchased a four rib prime rib roast from here. The quality of the meat was wonderful and our dinner came out spectacular. The location is peculiar as the butcher shop was previously part of larger grocery store, but now with the grocery store closed, the butcher shop sits by itself in a largely abandoned storefront. Really nice, quality butcher shop tucked away in the old Morningfield's building in the South Park area in Park Ridge. It's a gem. Great service, meat and extras (I just had their mashed sweet potatoes - yum!) If you are looking for great Lent meals -- their Salmon Salad is really good. My 18-year-old loves it. I LOVE Devon Avenue Meats. I have been a customer for years and it is even better now in their new location. I rarely buy meat at the grocery store anymore because the quality at DAM is significantly better, even something as simple as marinated chicken breast. It is so easy to stop here on the way back from Mariano's and get all my meats and deli items. Forget waiting in the line at Mariano's! If I have a larger order or one that requires more work, I call ahead and it is waiting for me. Nothing better than having them cube the chicken or prepare a special cut! I also am a big fan of the ever expanding selection of prepared frozen foods - mashed potatoes, soups, cookies. Great for when you want a quick option.
