I took my late father's car in for service. It's over 10 years old and I wanted a full inspection and service. Mark, was the service agent assigned and he was rude and dismissive. I didn't really encounter any other employees. The guest lounge was nice and I was out within an hour. I live out of state and drive a Honda SUV. Third Honda vehicle I have owned. Their customer service is top notch and the service employees are very respectful. No condescending attitude. Subaru has a great reputation but Dewey Griffin needs to make sure all their employees communicate professionally. read more

Put in a battery in a used car when I decided at 6 years it needed one with a trickle charger so I don't have to drive all the time to keep it charged. Put in 4 tires and found a reasonable price even during the war and tariffs. They don't pass on tariff costs to customers. Free carwash with service, quality service, emergency service so drop in work can get done. comfortable waiting room with hot chocolate and coffee, wifi, tv or they take you home and pick you up. We bought a 2022 Subaru Outback from Carter Subaru Ballard down in Seattle in September. They sold us a car with a bum battery, unfortunately. Carter Subaru's customer service was also genuinely horrible. We didn't want to make the drive down to Seattle for a battery test on a week day, so we ultimately scheduled for maintenance at Dewey Griffin despite the longer appointment wait with Chelsea's help. She was great - explained the details of the warranty battery test simply and fully, and gave honest feedback about the timeframe! When we arrived, Jeff in maintenance was kind, efficient, and ready to help. Couldn't ask for a more engaged, friendly face! He answered our questions openly, and had everything put together and ready for us. They also had a shuttle to return us home and pick us up, which was SUPER helpful since it was a work day and we only have the Outback for transportation! The car was tested and the battery was replaced in under 2 hours, despite the quote of up to 4 hours. It's run great since! We will certainly be returning to Dewey Griffin for any future car-related issues or purchases. They turned our experience with Subaru around for the better within 10 minutes. This is one of the easiest reviews I've ever done. My wife and I went in to look at the new Outbacks and we were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. Kris showed us the vehicles on the lot, knew about the features, and absolutely no pressure. We left the dealership to view other SUVs and realized we needed to return. So, a few hours later, we bought a new Outback. I'd definitely go back to Griffin Suburu and would be happy to work with Kris again. Well, we did. He has been transparent and always shown us what needs to be done. We did end up selling our Forester and knew we wanted a new SUV. We had met with John Evans and drove the 2020 Forester. He was professional and friendly. The 2020 Forester is a massive upgrade from 2010. We went to multiple dealerships and drove many SUVs. We wanted to make sure we wouldn't have buyers remorse. It wasn't the absolute lowest price, but the added value of the fixes and their very fair trade in valuation of my old car more than made up for it. The worst experience I have had with any business. Brought my 2009 Outback in for service on 9/10 (Tuesday) as AC stopped working and needed an oil change and new brake pads. My assigned service provider was Mark. Note - I did not have any issues with my power steering nor was there any evidence that power steering pump was leaking when I brought the car in. They took a look at it on Wednesday (9/11) and determined AC compressor needed to be replaced. Had to order the part which should arrive over the weekend and then they could install Monday or Tuesday. No mention on phone call or anything on the written report about leaky power steering pump. I call in Tuesday afternoon (9/17). They call back say they'll get to it on Wednesday. I get no call on Wednesday. I call in Thursday morning. Get a call back later that morning reporting that they installed the new compressor on Wednesday but immediately broke it as there was still metal shavings in the system. They are now going to have to replace the compressor and the condenser (a few more hundred dollars). Mark stated they will lie to their parts supplier and report that the compressor received was faulty so that they could warranty it and wouldn't have to pay for and then charge me for a second compressor (acted as if this was a favor to me). Again probably won't get the parts till the weekend. Get a call in the afternoon the next day, Friday (9/18), saying that they have installed the compressor and condenser and AC seems to be working. However, Mark reports that my power steering pump is now leaking, cost of replacement $875. Again, the leaking power steering pump had not been mentioned previously and I had no issues with it when I brought the car in. Opted to pick up the car. Already owed $2700. Pick up the car and power steering is completely nonfunctional and car is borderline unsafe to drive. Drive a couple miles home. Pop the hood and power steering pump is leaking profusely, actively dripping onto my driveway. I'm no mechanic but I do check my fluid levels periodically and this was certainly not occurring when I originally brought my car in. Call Subaru to voice my complaint. It's late on a Friday so nothing to be done till Monday understandably. Speak with manager, Robert on Monday morning . Asks me to bring it back in to see what might have happened. Tell him I'll bring it in Wednesday morning as I'm out of town. Bring car back in first thing Wednesday morning. Hear nothing all day. Call in near end of day. Receive call back from manager who states that even though power steering pump is right next to the replaced parts since they didn't fully remove the power steering pump when working on the AC it isn't their fault. Offers to "meet me halfway" and cover labor cost and replace power steering pump for $500. State that I have no desire to give them my business anymore and will be telling friends and family about my negative experience. Manger asks for more time to see if there might be another solution. Conversation gave me the impression that nobody actually looked at my car that day. I am done at this point and pick my car up. Take my car to Barnett Automotive per a coworker's recommendation. They replace the o-ring on the power steering pump and clean up the huge mess of leaked fluid for $150 and power steering is working flawlessly again. TL;DR Avoid Dewey Griffin Subaru unless you enjoy poor communication, dishonest business practices, and your car in worse condition than it was brought in. read more

My daughter that just turned 18 wanted to buy a new vehicle, we have purchased three Subarus from this dealer in the past. So I recommended her that we should go see them so we did. She fell in love with a used Subaru, Impreza, and they made it easy and simple, we drove off, happy. It wasn't until a couple weeks later we noticed that the car was burning excessive oil so we reached out to them. It didn't take long before they ran some test and determined that the car had engine problems. This is where the story gets better. The service department, and the finance department got together, and reached out to Subaru of America, where they worked a deal on repairing my daughters vehicle, and it wouldn't cost us anything, I'm not saying that this will happen to everyone, but I am very happy that it happened to us. Our vehicle is now in the shop, and we get a loaner during the repairs. I had always been afraid of dealerships because of the reputation, but Dewey Subaru and Keith from finance, and Robert from the service department really prove me wrong. I puchased a 2021 Outback at Dewey Griffin and after 10 months experienced issues with the battery. I could not start the car on at least 6 or 7 occasions and made an appointment (Friday Feb 25) for a warranty replacement. This required a $60 ferry ride and 4 hours of driving. After spending 2 hours for them to examine the issue they said the car was 100% and could not find an issue. I returned home very disappointed. This cost me an entire day, at least $100 and hours of frustration, only to find the car was dead the next morning - less than 12 hours after leaving the dealership. Each time every lights was off and double checked, the car had been driven 200 miles mere hours before. I dislike being ignored and do not believe the dealership has respect for their clientele or community. I would never trust this dealership again. read more

Beware the "free" car wash! I took my car through the car wash a few weeks ago and came out the other end with significant damage to the driver's side. I was shocked at the managements lack of enforcement of their own mask policy. I have spoken with management before today and received the usual assurances. Actually nothing has changed. Salesmen offering to get you coffee, without masks. Service people driving your car to the back, without masks or gloves. Not only was I not heard when expressing these concerns but the manager I spoke to was condescending and implied that it was really my problem. I don't care how they spin it. They are not protecting the public and if you object then you're the problem. How anyone can get a position of leadership with such weak communication skills is beyond me. Take your business elsewhere. I've purchased a lot of cars in my life and never, ever had an experience like this, which included being lied to and having credit issues leveraged to try and force a bad deal to take advantage of me and my wife. I made the mistake of first approaching this dealership to lease a new 2020 Forester Touring. I was told by Lori Bockwoldt (the finance manager) my wife and I were approved for a Lease (after running my credit). Then she provided the numbers. The dealership offered less than the minimum KBB trade-in value for my 2017 Forester Touring (which was in excellent shape with a top-notch tint job), and only took $1,000 off of MSRP. I tried to negotiate, but they knew we had credit issues and refused to budge. It was a bad deal. So I went shopping. I found other Subaru dealerships (south of here) would sell me the exact same vehicle at Invoice, give me $1,500 more for my trade-in, and one even offered to tint the new vehicle as part of the deal; the difference was more than $3,000 in savings. The problem is these other dealerships couldn't secure a lease because Dewey's inquiries had lowered my credit just enough to where other dealerships couldn't get lease approval. So, I went back to Dewey and asked Lori to confirm we were approved and able to move forward (taking a bad deal, but now having no choice if we wanted to lease a new car). She said yes. A day later she got back to me and said I was denied because there were new multiple credit inquiries (which she said were "red flags" to the lender), and some incorrect employment issues (they claimed my employment was something it was not). So, the catalyst for this mess was the fact I went shopping because Dewey was giving a bad deal, and now had new inquiries from other dealerships. And this was after I was "supposedly" approved (and she told me the approval was good for 14 days!). Now we're unable to secure a lease anywhere. Dewey wasted more than two weeks of my time, lied to me about approval, and then created the very situation that caused the deal to fall apart because they tried to overcharge the sale and undervalue my trade-in (causing me to seek a better deal elsewhere, unaware doing so would destroy any chance to secure a deal). Once again, two different Subaru dealerships south of me offered me more than $3,000 in savings for the same thing Dewey was proposing. None of this would have happened if Dewey offered me reasonable trade-in and sold the vehicle at a reasonable (or even competitive) price. So be wary; this dealership will try to gouge you if they think they can, they will lie about approval, and those who have credit issues can find themselves locked out of securing a deal anywhere else. read more

I took my car to get an oil change at their Express Service this morning. When checking in my car the man told me it would be about an hour and fifteen minutes until it was ready. I waited there for two and a half hours, watching my car be ignored, before going to ask for a status update. One of the desk employees tracked down my info and another gave me attitude when he found my contact info with the first employee, who said they couldn't find it. She told me my car hadn't been worked on yet, and it was suddenly the next in line. She asked me to "give us another hour" to finish the job they hadn't started, which was supposed to be finished over an hour and half ago. I asked for my car back so I could leave, as I had waited long enough and asked how I could avoid this mess-up in the future. She told me to make an appointment, I responded by saying I've tried making appointments for express service and they told me it wasn't necessary. She said "yeah, I hear that a lot," and I was afforded a simple "sorry" for whatever tomfoolery occurred with my service today. Terrible first impression, and their self-proclaimed 'discounted rate' is $98 before taxes. To end this tirade: I will avoid returning to Dewey Griffin Subaru unless absolutely necessary. read more

Very disappointed here. Bought a used car which had supposedly been through their evaluation process but at home it began smoking and it appeared that the gasket was broken. Had to go back & pound in the counter to get them to fix it. Looking back on it the whole buying process was bait and switch. We were unsure about buying an older car. Salesman assured us we would have a warranty and a service plan. He handed us off to another person and When we were buying it appeared that they don't do service plans or warranties!! He respected my point of view, and the resolution was generous - I felt understood and supported at the end of the call. I can't speak to the sales team but I'm now a serious fan of the Dewey Griffin service team, especially Tara - I was on a road trip, had a problem with my car, and her explanation of what might be going on and how to manage it was such that I rented a car for the rest of my trip so the issue could be addressed back in Bellingham. I am allergic to car payments so finding a dealership that sells used vehicles and has a great team helping out is the best!!! I can't say enough. The communication was more than on point. My questions were answered. All follow through was complete. They had service paperwork that had been performed on the car prior and actually made sure to send it with my vehicle, which I had transported since I bought out of state. I get not all prior owners maintain the records. My point here is they didn't claim to have on hand what they didn't. I've encountered many businesses that say what you want to hear and then tell you they don't actually have what you want once they think they've reeled you in. Whether it's service records or types of vehicle you're looking to purchase, etc. Not the case here. Some things were longer than expected but this was really due to COVID and I purchased smack in the middle of the Christmas season. Double whammy for me but I understood that going in and the dealership doesn't control the transport company. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the service. read more

DEWEY TECHS LEFT A SLIFF IN MY CAR -In 2020 I bought a brand new subaru crosstrek from Dewey Griffith. It has13 K miles on it now, and has started making an intermittent sound when the wheels rotate at low speeds. The car is still under warranty, so I took it in to have it looked at. Two days later the tech called me back and said they could not duplicate the sound. Fair enough... I know that the sound only happens about 50% of the time I drive it. When I picked my car up, it smelled like skunk. It was dark out, and about 4pm so I couldn't see that someone had left joint on my drivers floor matt. Not left just it there but put it out on my floor boards. What if I had gotten pulled over? Or tried to cross the boarder? How would I explain that? An officer probably wouldn't believe that a "reputable dealership" left a full size JOINT in my car. Now, I don't have anything against people that smoke weed, (although my wife and I do not) But was this tech driving my car around high? Why was there 1/4 of a tank of gas missing when the problem was at low speed(4 mph) and why would they be foolish enough to leave it in a customers car? So I called to tell them about this. I was told I would get an immediate call back. I did not. I called again, nothing. I finally went in and talked to the service manager. He was apologetic, but basically told me he trusted his techs. Well.....then how did a joint get in my car after I dropped it off? He was apologetic and told me he would make it right. GREAT! That's all I need to hear. He gave me his card. I left three messages with him to have the car looked at again. No calls back. So again, I went in. This time they told me that they want me to drive around with the tech to identify the noise. I have kids, a full time job, full time nursing school, and this is an intermittent problem. I don't have time. I bought the car. It is under warranty .Fix it. Figure it out. I finally just left, with the car still broken, and feeling like I can't trust these people to fix my car that is under warranty. Will they leave another spliff in it? Drive it around high? I would expect this from maybe a smaller shop, but a huge dealership...unbelievable. I'll never buy another car hear. Love subarus but ..yea...pretty awful experience with these clowns. read more

Today I had the most amazing, positive experience I have ever had at a car dealership. I went in for a service issue which was promptly scheduled--and it was not a routine service concern. Then I went to the parts department to get some advice on an interior and exterior detail issue I was having with--wait for it--dog slobber which had settled into the leather on the inside of the door and the outside on the paint. So they called in their detail guy who buffed out the stubborn slobber as well as a scratch I had on the outside of the door. All for free, while I was waiting, no questions asked. They were also kind enough to sell me an accessory at a reduced cost out of the kindness of their hearts...It was the most remarkable experience I have ever had in my life at a dealership. I traded another vehicle for a 2019 Subaru Outback (68,000 miles) from Dewey Griffin Subaru in Bellingham Wa in late November of 2022. Within 6 weeks I discovered an oil leak from the vehicle. Over the next few weeks I localized the leak to the CVT pan and noticed a significant amount of oil on top of the plastic chassis cover adjacent to the cvt pan indicating the leak had been occurring for a several weeks/months. I did not purchase an extended warranty because I was convinced Subaru vehicles were dependable, so I contacted my salesperson at the dealership to determine if the dealership could help with the diagnosis and possible repair of this problem and my sales person indicated she would pass my information to her sales manager for follow-up. I reached out to her again but never received follow-up from the sales manager. I eventually took the vehicle to a local private mechanic and not only was there a cvt leak, but there also was a drive axle boot split requiring a new axle, and the front brakes were reportedly unsafe requiring brake replacements. My concern is that Dewey Griffin Subaru traded me a vehicle with known issues that were not remedied, and furthermore were unsafe. I paid $2500 for service required soon after I traded for the vehicle. I would not recommend purchasing a used vehicle from this dealership. read more

I was helping my adult daughter find and purchase a car in September,2016. She had financing prearranged,and also a significant down payment. After several test drives at several dealers in Bellingham,we found a 2015 Crosstrek at Dewey Griffin. The salesman that greeted us when we arrived I believe was Kevin. He was very nice and very informative. We chose to go home and think about it and returned the next day. Kevin was not there when we came back and were greeted by another salesman whose name I cannot remember.Older gentleman,with a mustache and missing some teeth. This guy was condescending and had trouble acknowledging that it was my daughter buying the car,not me. We made an offer,and he literally laughed at me. I wanted to walk,but my daughter was convinced that was the car she wanted. We eventually made a deal,then it went to the finance officer. The finance officer made it seem like it was a problem to deal with the credit union in Seattle where my daughter had financing set up. She would not deal directly with the credit union,and we had to have the funds sent to a Bellingham credit union,and had to physically pick up a check at the credit union. She informed us that if we financed through one of "their" credit unions,the funds could be transferred automatically. She could not match the financing deal my daughter had with her CU. We left,and said we would be back to pick up the car when we were able to pick up the check. When we returned about 4-5 hours later with the check for the full amount due,we were told by the salesman that we should have called first,that the car was not ready yet. It was still sitting on the lot. I reminded him that we said we would be back as soon as we got the check. Despite the fact that the deal was made and the papers signed,he did not think we would be back. We had to wait close to two hours while they made the car ready for sale. What they did not know was that I also was car shopping,and considering a new Subaru. After this experience,Dewey Griffin will not be high on my list of places to shop. read more

Went in to Dewey Griffin today to purchase the BMW i3 that is on the lot. Not one person came to help us. We waited at the car in the front of the lot and waved for a salesperson to come. We waited and waited and no one came. Went up to the salesroom. NO ONE helped us. One salesman at his desk drinking a beverage, one person adjusting a window shade, all too busy to help. Hello salesman, you won't sell a car unless you engage with the customers. You let a Cash buyer drive off your lot. I will be happy to drive to Bellevue BMW where the salesman will be happy to help me buy an i3. So Sad. NO Customer Service. read more
