Liars, scumbags, and thieves.
I had a similar experience to another reviewer, K.A. - DO NOT LET THIS PLACE TOUCH YOUR CAR!!! I went to them with the need to have my driver's door replaced, and got an estimate of $600 - just for the door (when there was about $1500 damage to the car, but I had to pay out of pocket). I asked them to replace the door (and it obviously needed a mirror, since it was gone), and just spray primer on it (the car is grey, so the primer wouldn't look that bad).
Jon Carey and his sons Scott and Steve are lying scumbags, and not good at lying - but very good at being scumbags. I had done business with Jon in the past, and considered him trustworthy - holy cow was I WRONG!!!
The FIRST time I went to pick up my car (after leaving it for a day, which is all they said it would take) - the door was there, in its original blue color, no mirror, and the power window was broken so that it came out of the tracks. They gave me the master switch from the replacement door, "in case I ever need it", but there was no mirror, they didn't primer it, so I had to bring it back. It was evident that they didn't even bother working on my car until they knew I was on my way to get it and when I arrived I saw 4 people frantically working to get my car ready. No primer or mirror, as requested - and the repair was awful. The mirror would cost another $80 and they acted like they were doing me a favor by giving it to me at cost - ya, thanks - how about covering my other expenses in dealing with this nonsense?
The SECOND time I went to pick up my car, Jon Carey (the owner) told me "yea it's all set" when I called, and when I arrived, the receptionist told me "they haven't started working on it yet" so I waited for an hour. During that hour, Scott (one of Jon's sons) told me the reason why it took more than one try to get it right is because they had to rewire the master switch because the replacement door was wired differently (which would be the first time in history that a car manufacturer changed up the connectors for the same model in the same year - they don't even do that across their entire line of cars - and I knew it was BS). Jon's other son, Steve, told me a different story - that the reason was because the replacement door had manual windows so they had to replace all of the internal mechanisms - that would have required a lot of work that they clearly were not doing.
Can you smell the BS yet? I asked him what they would do if this were an insurance claim and he flippantly responded "oh we'd negotiate with the insurance company for more money". Scumbag. And then Jon told me that they had a hard time finding a replacement door to begin with, which is hard to believe considering my car was one of the most common on the roads, but what I DO believe is that they found it in a junkyard for $20 and said "good enough to rip off a customer paying out of pocket".
When I got the car, I noticed that they had sprayed primer sloppily and it was all over the hood and roof of my car. I first thought it might just be dust and would wash off, but no, they totally messed up my car.
They had the audacity to ask if I could leave the car for yet another day, and at this point all I could think was "no way are you ever touching my car again". I waited for an hour while they finally did the work they were supposedly doing during the day - after Jon told me the car was done - and the STILL messed it up, even worse. The window didn't position properly, the weather seal was rotted on the replacement door, and it leaks and is now rusting from the inside out because of their careless and irresponsible work.
I brought my car to my mechanic, whom I trusted, and asked him to fix the damage DeWire Brothers did - and check on that "rewiring" - and of course, it was all a lie. The window had to be replaced at my own expense (another $400) because it came out of the tracks and basically came out of the door, and the clips to hold it to the mechanism are part of the window itself, so they couldn't be replaced. No wonder DeWire didn't bother fixing anything. My mechanic was also very familiar with DeWire, and confirmed that at one time, they were okay - but for years they had gone downhill and just didn't seem to care about your car (unless you have a nice Ferrari or something). He stopped sending people to this body shop because he knew, they stopped caring.
My insurance company gave me $1500 to fix the entire car after my accident (the whole driver side), and after spending $1000 on just fixing the door twice, and then fixing the "repair" that was done, I was happy enough that I could open the door and the window finally worked (no thanks to an entire family of liars) - and that I could drive away from this f'n place and never return. read more
