Now if you don't want to walk the hotel has the best restaurants: Dorregos and Acenar. You can not go wrong with the restaurants. The breakfast plates were amazing and the Mexican food was delicious. The employees were friendly and helpful. They knew their jobs and they knew their town so if you need information or advice on where to eat or what to do they will give you great advice. We were very happy and pleased with everything here.

In the lobby for checkin today, I had an instant headache because the fragrance was so strong. At that point they informed us that there is some additional fee per day on top of the already pricey room, a fee that they never disclosed before today. We continued upstairs, and I could hardly breathe in the elevator it was so scented. When we got to the room it was also heavily fragranced. I tried to call the front desk, and the phone in the room didn't work reliably. Our call dropped several times. They offered box fans for us to air out the room. However, when we opened the windows, a blast of cigarette smoke wafted into the room because it is directly above their designated smoking area. We asked the front desk for help, and they said not to worry, hardly anyone smokes in that area. Meanwhile we watched several people out there smoking almost constantly. They offered no other accommodation or help. Not worth it. Very uncomfortable and upset because this will ruin our vacation. Edit: 1 to 3 stars. The manager eventually heard our concerns, responding to a secondary issue with cigar smoke in our room after leaving windows open - their recommendation- to air out the room. They found us a different accommodation and made it more than fair and comfortable. Why not 4 stars? Because it took the entire first day to be resolved.

The front desk staff was fine, but I saw an area of opportunity to get to know why the guest had come to this historic hotel and give us a quick FYI about certain areas, relics, and fun facts as there is so much to read and learn. Checkout was also fine, but the person didn't ask about our stay, welcome us back in the future, or anything that suggests above and beyond. Our room was nice and well-maintained. The balcony view was worth the extra couple dollars, but the furniture out there was not super comfortable. The beds were comfy, and the room was in good condition given the age. The pool was nice, huge chess board and outdoor games for fun too. The older part of the hotel had a smell that only very old buildings have; it doesn't smell musky or moldy at all, but it has that comforting old building smell. The stained glass, chandeliers, windows, elevators, all were in very good condition. I loved all the relics and getting the chance to look at the wood carving details all throughout the buildings. The older part of this hotel is wonderfully maintained - preservation is obviously very important. I loved the bar. I loved the smell. I loved the dark wood, the history, the entire feeling of the bar. Beautifully maintained and while it was a small space, it didn't seem crowded. We would definitely come back again. While we had read plenty about the hauntings in the hotel, never once did we feel that vibe, but it was a very busy Saturday night with lots of people.

The Menger used to be an old hospital and has been re-conditioned to become a very nice hotel with absolutely beautiful Victorian style lobby. This place is really, really unique. It is beautiful and ornate in its style and fun to be in. The wing we stayed in was indeed an older one with a large step up into the bathroom with was unique. The room was clean and pleasant with a nice view of the courtyard. There are some great stories of the Menger being haunted and while we didn't see any ghosts, I can see how this could be possible being an old hospital. The hallway to our room was big and a bit eerie with the big mirror at the end of the hallway. We enjoyed our stay, the bed was comfortable but the three negative things through me a bit. The checking in and checking out was very difficult and the staff was not as friendly as I would have expected and the valet service to pick up your car was absolutely dreadful. 30 minutes to get your car? No, I don't think so. Over all, our stay was very nice and there were no other issues but the customer service was very poor which dominated my rating. The Menger is near a lot of activities like the Alamo and the Waterwalk which made thing extremely convenient. I do recommend looking into the history of the Menger Hotel and then trying them out.

We got to meet alot of friendly people at the open house. Offering their wedding services, photographers, cakes, hair and makeup, DJ's, plus more. La Fontana Springs, sits on about 10 acres, there is a chapel in the front. Two wedding ceremony areas in the back. And a reception hall in between. The hall has a bridal suite and a groom room. A full bar, and a kitchen. They had plenty of food to sample for the open house. There is also an outdoor patio area to enjoy as well. The staff are super friendly and always helpful. It was so nice and stress free having a venue that was all inclusive because they did all the work and I didn't have to worry about much! The cake was delicious and the DJ was amazing!! We had sooo much fun at our wedding! The DJ played great music that kept everyone on the floor. As guests were leaving most of them told us how beautiful everything came out and that this was the most fun wedding they've ever attended! My only little complaint would be only having one bartender because the bar line was long most of the night but our guests still had a great time. Our day was still perfect! Amit was so easy to contact and plan with and our day of coordinator ran everything smoothly. We definitely recommend La Fontana Springs for any of your events!

The hotel grounds and our room were clean and well-maintained, and by the end of the trip, we were already talking about coming back. We only stayed three nights, but all of us wished we could have stayed longer. There is so much to do that it's difficult to fit everything into a short visit. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, with plenty of space to explore and enjoy the outdoors. Our family especially enjoyed the playground, visiting the animals, riding the bicycles, and spending time at the pool. The nightly s'mores were a huge hit and created some great family memories. There are also extensive walking areas and a variety of activities available, including skeet and trap shooting, which add to the resort's unique appeal. The biggest disappointment of our stay was the food. While it was perfectly acceptable, it felt more comparable to chain restaurants like Applebee's or Chili's than to what you might expect at a luxury resort. Unfortunately, the prices were significantly higher. Given the resort's remote location, dining alternatives require leaving the property, which means many guests end up paying the premium prices out of convenience. On the other hand, the hotel bar was excellent. The craft cocktails were well-made, and the local craft beer selection was impressive. The drinks were expensive, but the quality justified the price more than the restaurant food did. Overall, this is a beautiful resort with excellent amenities, friendly staff, and countless activities for families. It is also one of the most expensive resorts in Texas, so it's worth budgeting accordingly. Despite our concerns about the food pricing, we absolutely loved our stay and hope to return again someday.

There was a large wedding during our stay; but it wasn't even a bother the grounds are so large. The breakfast buffet was lovely, such a great selection. My 6 yo was in heaven with the fresh fruit! Dinner, not as thrilling. We went to Mavericks. The staff were ok, not nearly as engaging as breakfast. The food while really good was really overpriced. Being that far out of town they can really gauge you. Because unless you plan to leave, you'll pay it. We loved our stay and hope to come back again!
