I took it to Factory Muffler on Central Park in Skokie. They got it to pass and don't charge you if they don't. They asked what work had been done I showed them the receipt with only a charge for labor. They said I'd been taken for a ride, not literally. $300.00 later and they took it thru the testing process for me and presented me with the pass certification.

Once the inspection was complete, they told me what was up: any signs of rust, scratches, dings, brake pad conditions, test drive results, etc. They also emailed me a report with pictures. To schedule the appointment, I had to email them with the car VIN and dealership info. They emailed back with car history and market value reports. I actually emailed them 3 separate times, because I couldn't decide on what car to buy. Every time, they responded back within 3 business days. On the day of the appointment, I just had to call at least one hour in advance to confirm the appointment. I'm very relieved to know that the car I'm going to purchase is in very good condition. I have used Riverside Garage for a few things and they have always been fair and honest with me. Most recently I thought I needed new brake pads on my Rav-4, so I dropped it off for the guys to check out. They easily could have told me I needed new pads and sold them to me, I wouldn't know the difference, as I am not a "car person". They told me I still have a ways to go before I need new pads. I really appreciate their honesty. Then they found a nail that had been in my back tire and removed it and plugged it for a very reasonable price! I'm so happy she did! Amber, Jeremy and Bob went out of their way to make sure my oil change was done quickly while I waited. Amber checked the air in all of my tires and Jeremy did the change.. He also ran some diagnostics on my 2014 Nissan Versa Note. He gave me a written proposal explaining everything in detail. Luckily, I don't need anything major at this moment. However, I do need a new serpentine belt soon which I never would have known without their help. There was absolutely no pressure to have any repairs done immediately except an air filter which I knew I needed. I will have the work done as I can afford it. I'm honestly surprised by how good of a rating this shop has…read more I took my car in to get it looked at for some suspension noise. When I came back the next day, all the owner wanted to sell me on was needing my brakes done, and he insisted that my brakes were the only noise. I took the car home, and tested this out, just pressing down on the body to see if I could hear the noise, and I did, so I took the car back. This time he said he wouldn't let one of his techs drive the car because my plates were expired - even though I've never had a shop decline work for this before, I figured that was fair, I could drive the car while his tech listened for what I was hearing. He instead pivoted to wanting to charge me $600 to clear my check engine codes. Not FIX the check engine issue - just clear the codes. Of course, he pretended like he was just going to do some magic trick to get my car passing emissions, but it was very clear he was just talking about resetting the codes. In the middle of this conversation, I also saw him directly try to steal from a customer. There was a customer who came in to return a part. It was clear that there was a phone conversation had ahead of time, and an agreed upon price, and there was definitely some tension between these two, as well - seemed like the customer wasn't exactly happy with the owner. The owner counted out the cash to return to the customer, and then started arguing with the customer for a bit, while discretely folding the cash and putting it in his pocket. While the owner was being nice the entire time, he did try ending the conversation, until the customer had to directly ask for his money again, while the owner basically went "oh silly me, I put it in my pocket and forgot!" Long story short, everyone else seems to have had a great experience here, but I basically had 3 super scammy experiences within one visit.
