I want to express my frustration regarding my recent experience at your bank. I've never had a bank interrogate me or my family over a large cash withdrawal. Instead of assisting us, the bank manager dug into our personal details, asking for copies of estimates and requiring the store to confirm everything via email. Then, I had the unpleasant experience of dealing with a loss prevention employee named Sharon or Shannon. She outright dismissed our documents and implied that she didn't believe the company's correspondence. I overheard her tell her colleague that if we didn't want a cashier's check, we could leave. I recorded the entire interaction, and it's clear that her behavior was unprofessional and discriminatory. Your staff has no problem accommodating customers of other backgrounds, but when it came to us, the treatment was appalling. Sharon or Shannon was rude, tried to talk over me, and suggested my tone was inappropriate when I was simply asking legitimate questions about the bank's policies. Her go-to line was, "You can leave," whenever I raised concerns about her attitude. When I requested to speak with a supervisor, she refused, demonstrating a clear abuse of power. It's evident that her actions stemmed from prejudice, and I won't tolerate that. This isn't just a personal grievance; it's a serious issue that reaches far beyond my encounter. I will be escalating this matter to higher management and stakeholders because your establishment should not endorse such behavior. Sharon or Shannon, you may want to prepare for the fallout--your actions have consequences, and they will not go unnoticed. Unrecognized charge on my DFCU m/c Card. Disputed it online a wk ago, got contacted today. While trying to speak with same Agent, I was told "No way I can get your call to her" response; refused helping me. Then contacted DFCU local. Response from DFCU: It's a third party that runs this not Us, WE (DFCU) only introduce You to Them, collect a Commission, then YOU (C.U. Member) must 'Fend for Yourself'. I've been a member for 30+ years and have notice the steady decline in the quality of service and attention to the customer. Rudeness level is high, security is low. I received a letter with personal information in it and the flap was open. I called the Livonia brand and Dearborn offices and the attitude was very flippant. The people that sit in the offices give you their card, but do not return calls. The DFCU cash-back program was cut in half for 2024, but no notices were sent out to the customers informing them of this change. If someone asked me if I would recommend DFCU I would tell them to definitely look around for other alternatives. I know I am. On a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest I would rate them 1. Customer service is horrible now. Literally 15 security questions to find out if my new atm card is being sent. Their rates are always beat by competitors. Was going to get a car loan last fall, the underwriter was so rude, after two days of dealing with nonsense, I called Vibe and had a loan in 20 mins. I've been a mended of DFCU since it was Dearborn Federal Credit Union. Things went massively downhill after they became DFCU- when they tried to become a bank and members shot that down. Now despite not being a bank in name, the certainly act like one. There are ridiculous fees for everything, if you are running low on funds, if there is an error causing fees to be charged that shouldn't have- good luck getting that reversed! I've had places acce tally double charge me for something causing my account to go negative, they corrected it and the Dibble charge was removed, so I never was actually negative, but DFCU refused to refund the overdraft fees they charged. Also had fraudulent charges on my account that by law should have been reverse, but even after jumping through all the hoops with dfcu, filming out paperwork multiple times, yakking to multiple people in the phone, they refused to reverse the charges (ie force the business making fraudulent charges to pay back what they charged to me). I've been in search of a new credit union because this one is total shit. read more

Horrible banking practices for people on a budget. Lots of hidden fees. Charges for overdraft on account that still had funds in it. Slow funds transfer from account to account. Difficult, argumentative and unfriendly agents. Unclear and shady systems that present the user with one set of information and the bank agents another. Uncoordinated online and branch banking that will draw out multiple mortgage payment for the same month. No serious investigation of possible system glitches or issues. Blame the member. I have been a customer of DFCU since 1996. Just noticed recently that they charge me $12 a month for 'no account activity fee'. Asked them to reverse all the recent no account activity fees.... $48 worth... They would not. So I closed my account in 2021. read more

I would not recommend DFCU. They charge you $32.00 NSF fee's for stuff that has not even hit your account that you can see on your end. Then when you call the customer service line they get snotty with you. The lady told my husband "Sir I can tell you just don't want to pay the NSF fee's" No, not when we did nothing wrong and nothing in our online account shows that we deserved these fee's. I've been a member 10+ years or should I say 10+ years too long! The other reviewers some up what has happened to DFCU. It was a really great credit union prior to becoming DFCU. Unfortunately now it's really just a bank with lipstick on it to make it look like a credit union. The branch I deal with in Garden City is fine. The staff are pleasant other than always pushing people to loan more money....probably because savings rates are terrible. The fees are just like a bank. The dividends they talk about really only get large or benefit people when you have lots of loans with them. The main customer service is a TERRIBLE. I think they received their training at cable company customer service organizations. The people on the main telephone line are rude, ill informed, and don't help at all. They don't really care that you are a member. They treat you like you are just a number. Very impersonal which is really too bad because prior to changing their name to DFCU they were great. If you want to be treated like a bank number or a credit card holder this is the place for you. If you want a more personal experience seek out another credit union. There are tons out there so you don't have to have DFCU's bank experience. read more

I've been a long time member with DFCU, however the incident today just did it for me! About a month ago my credit card was credited $1400+ for a airline ticket that I cancelled. I called the 800# on the bank of the card wanting a check cut and mailed out. However Mr Phillipines told me that I would have to go into a branch to personally put that request in. (I've never encountered this process with any credit card that I hold!) So I stroll in there put my name on the list to speak to customer rep, big mistake, she proceeded to tell be in order for the bank to issue a credit in any form, I need to pay penalty fees! What?! Oh no get me someone else....the next one, I can't get a credit unless I purchase items on the cc to use the credit! Are you kidding? Of course they want to keep the money within their banks but really. Can't get any better than this....WRONG! The 3rd person told me it needs to sit in my cc account in case the airlines want it back!? This is where I made the mistake, asking to talk to someone who knows everything and sure enough I finally got the right intelligent person. Guess I should of asked for her from the beginning. (just a note, one of the unintelligent person was the actual manager). Some people need to be retrained or just FIRED! So I know many out there like to support our local credit union, but after this nonsense I'm sticking with the real big banks! read more

I've been a member of DFCU for 4 years now. My credit is pretty good and I have a few credit cards with other companies. I applied for a car loan with Ford Credit and got 0% interest and then a few months later I applied for a refi on my other vehicle through DFCR and received a call. The person on the phone said "You have bad credit so we can't approve you" word for word. Then recently I applied for a credit card with a $500 limit. Once again, they denied me. I went online and got a credit card for $1000 in about two minutes. I've belonged to other credit unions and they actually help their members. I believe they're snobs and only deal with people with A credit. I'm currently looking for a new bank. I feel looked down on. read more

Been a member for 10yrs.. I am done with this bank. I have now been restricted to make payments on my line of credit. I am physically walking into the branch every month to make my payment (ahead of my due date) and being told I am unable to. I have to call a member service rep during normal banking hours! If the bank is open doesn't that count as normal banking hours, and I have cash on hand to give. Thanks to this debacle my loan is past due and shows on my credit score. I had fraudulent activity on my bank account. I've filed a police report, even though I already knew who was the culprit. DFCU is telling me that since I know who committed this fraud, it's up to me to get the funds back. They're not obligated under MasterCard guaranteed protection to return the money to me. This amount is almost 1900.00. A couple of years ago, I had the same thing happen while I had accounts at a bank, and they didn't hesitate to return the funds. A few weeks later - Still arguing with DFCU. After I was basically told that the Mastercard guarantee protection has a loophole in it, where if you know the person who defrauded you, you're not protected at all, it's your problem to collect the funds, I was told that the only way they will even consider extending this guaranteed protection to me, is if I press charges against the one who did it. I have no problem doing this, but I really feel for the Corporal with the Dearborn Police Department, who already has a desk piled high with cases he has to investigate. Now he has to re open this case and do the investigation,even though we already know who did it, and there's no way to collect the money. It's taking him away from investigating more urgent crimes, but DFCU apparently doesn't care about wasting the time or our police force. "Hi Chase? Yeah, I'd like to open an account. I work for the dispute department for other credit unions and all of them fight for their members who has been involved in situations where companies take money and don't give the merchandise. Do not... I repeat DO NOT use Dearborn Federal Credit Union for your auto loans. They are complete idiots and argued with me on the phone about something THEY dropped the ball on. They also told me that they spoke with my husband this morning and that he said he got it taken care of even though that's complete bullshit. When I told them they knew the payments were supposed to come from MY account bc we physically went into their corporate office to set everything up, they argued with me and told me I'm wrong and that my husband already said he was paying it. When I spoke with this woman, she kept telling me that I was wrong and refused to let me speak with another person. My husband had to call back and tell them to speak with ME... which is ridiculous. When I called back and spoke with a new lady she told me the money is supposed to be coming out of my husband's account, which is NOT TRUE AND she didn't even know I was talking about the fusion instead of the flex. These people are complete idiots and incapable of handling any business. Now I need to go onto their office tomorrow before I go on vacation and I can tell you they do not want me going in there. This payment is 25 days late because of their errors and she had the nerve to tell me it's not on my credit report yet, so it's ok. Been a DFCU member for many many years (as well as all my family members and extended family who I have referred over the years)...not real happy with DFCU. I have a major issue with DFCU which prevents me from recommending them at the current time: DFCU's customer service and technology is not keeping up with their rate of growth. I feel DFCU has changed their focus to opening new locations and customer acquisition rather than customer service. The reason I chose DFCU in the first place was fewer fees as compared to major banks, more personal service, group discounts on AAA, etc. Unfortunately, DFCU (about the time they changed their name to DFCU) started sacrificing customer service for growth. The biggest example of this is DFCU's continued backward approach to technology such as online banking. While almost every other institution is up with technology, DFCU lags behind customer needs. While I understand DFCU is a CU and not a major bank, there is not excuse for the remedial nature of their online technology and how they run it. While DFCU seems to improve systems to keep up every couple years it is often way after everyone else has already moved on to newer more helpful technology. An example of my latest issue is: DFCU forces you to choose between paper statements (and charges you $1 per statement) or "EDocs (online statements)...which itself is not bad per se...I am willing to pay the $1 per month for the paper (as much as I think they should not be charging anything) but I get it, they save $ by online statements so they want to move you online statements. I get it...but that is not how I work....if I get an email notification that my statement is ready, I may never see it...I get a million emails a month. Since it is something so important, I would rather get a paper notice in the form of a statement in the mail so I can see it , hold it and use it when I work on finances. I also do not want to spend the time and $ to print out my own statement. But this is not the worst issue ( I can understand the desire to move people to digital - I am very tech savvy and love using technology) but due to the fact I am not on eDocs, if I have misplaced a statement, I have to pay $5 for them to send me a past statement (great customer service DFCU). And worse, if you decide to enroll in eDocs to print out your own past statements (it obviously dis-enrolls you in paper statements) you cannot switch back to paper documents without calling their Customer Service Call center (which wastes time for them and me). So I think DFCU likes to think of themselves as the alternative to all the big banks and wants more an more business... they have forgotten customer service, how customers work (not every customer fits into their IT guys idea of how they should work). and have gotten away from their mission to serve the members they have - not the ones they are trying to get. DFCU wants it both ways, they want to appear large but their technology is small time. Give us the option to see statements online DFCU without having to give up paper statements (which we are paying for anyway!!!).... No other financial institution I have dealt with prevents you from seeing your online statements JUST so they can FORCE you to go digital. How about letting the customer have access to the info as they like it DFCU not how YOU like them to have it!!! read more

I have been a customer of Desert Financial Credit Union (DFCU) in Phoenix for many years, since before the name was changed from Desert Schools Financial Credit Union. I have always found the service to be more than adequate and the employees friendly and professional. Recently, however I moved to the far northwest side of the Valley and changed my branch to the one at Arrowhead Mall (17445 N 79th Ave).The employees I have encountered here are a cut above. Member Advocate Christoper Davis truly knows the meaning of the word Advocate. He has represented me calmly but tenaciously with several problems I have encountered in my business dealings. Manager Lindsay Martin has always been helpful, professional and empathetic. Smart with a heart. This is and will be my credit union from now on. I highly recommend it to one and all. Terrible service. Went to close a joint account with my mom who passed away. Received nothing but stall tactics in closing the account, including made to wait over a half hour for $0.41. I can't prove it but I am relatively certain this wait was no accident. I would have left but the associate had my driver license. I would caution everyone to avoid this Credit Union. read more

I would not recommend this bank due the the lack of professionalism. They do not appreciate their members. I recently closed my joint account due to the lack of personal respect that I was shown by one of the bank reprensentatives. DFCU needs to invest in training for their employees and basic systems and process knowledge. Now that I have opened an account at BoA I see the difference in technology and I also have more branch location options. Apparently asking how to sign up to get your statements electronically is a huge inconvenience. And if you are not understanding their instructions on how to do so, they will get frustrated and raise their voice at you. They are paid to help members that call in. Instead, Dina treated my call as if I was interrupting her day. They hire bullies. I would have never spoken to a member that way when I worked there. I deposited cash in an ATM to cover a fee that was coming out of this account. I don't normally use DFCU as I have chase and BOA. I wanted to keep this account because my mother started it for me about 17 years ago. Unfortunately, they charged me an insufficient funds fee because it took them 3 days to clear cash deposit. When I spoke to representative and her manager, they refused to reverse the fee although it showed the date and time of deposit. I spoke all the way up to Vice President of company, Ana Carney, and they did NOT reverse the fee. Instead, they continued to talk about how their laws haven't changed, etc. They run their credit union like the 1980's. Any time I deposit cash in an ATM with Chase and BOA, it's available same day. It's really not about the fee, it's about principle to a long time member. Stick with banks. I knew there was a reason I rarely used account. Shame on their entire staff. Report all these problems to BBB. There should never be a reason to feel like a victim at any institution. read more

Please note that the DFCU bill pay service has the right to choose which method to use to pay your bills!!! They can (AND WILL) switch back and forth between payment types (electronic transfer or paper check) without notice to you!!! I had set my rent payment up as an auto pay in 2014. DFCU has been mailing paper checks to my apartment complex every single month without fail. These checks are not deducted from my account until cashed by the recipient. Because I have a 10% late penalty if my rent is late, I wanted to be sure that it was received early. So my checks were set up to be mailed on the 23rd of the prior month, with assurance from my apartment complex that they would not be cashed until the day the rent is due (the first of the month). Typically they were cashed on the following 4th. Everything was going along just fine until my January 1, 2016 rent payment, which was scheduled to be mailed on 12/23/15 via paper check. I was expecting this check to be cashed on the following Jan. 4th as usual. To my extreme dismay, the check was cashed on 12/23/15 wiping out my checking account and leaving me a balance of $0.00 two days before Christmas. Yep, I still had shopping to do. When I called the DFCU bill pay service, they explained to me (by citing the Terms and Conditions SEVERAL times like the script reading, knuckle draggers they are) that for this particular payment, THEY decided to issue a "corporate check" instead of the paper check that they have been issuing every month for two years. This meant that they pulled the money out of my account on THE DAY THE PAYMENT WAS ISSUED (12/23/15), rather than the day the recipient cashed the check which should have been 1/1/16. PER THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS, DFCU BILL PAY IS ALLOWED TO ISSUE YOUR PAYMENT BY ANY METHOD THEY SO CHOOSE WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR PRIOR NOTICE TO YOU!!! AND THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS ABOUT THE ADVERSE AFFECT IT MAY HAVE ON YOU. TRUST ME. From the Bill Pay Website: How does DFCU OnLine Bill Payment Service work? Provide some info about the company or person you want to pay, and then tell us how much and when you want the payment made. We send your payment electronically when possible. If the person or company can't accept electronic payments, we print a check and mail it for you. From the Bill Pay Terms and Conditions: PAYMENT METHODS The Service reserves the right to select the method in which to remit funds on your behalf to your Biller. These payment methods may include, but may not be limited to, an electronic payment, an electronic to check payment, or a laser draft payment (funds remitted to the Biller are deducted from your Payment Account when the laser draft is presented to your financial institution for payment). read more

I have several accounts for my grandchildren, in which their ssn were used to set up the accounts and I am just the custodian. I live and receive all the mail at the same address, including the kids accounts. On three of them the mail was sent back to the CU as undeliverable. So I go into the CU to get this fixed, of course the three accounts get charged 5.00 each for a bad address. They fix it, restore the money all ok. Then it happens again and again. I tell the CU to put a note in the account so it won't happen, they can't do that. If the post office sends it back, then they assume it information is incorrect, but the other accounts are good. I am waiting for it to happen again and once the money is restored, I will be moving the kids accounts to another bank. Other than this issue, the CU has treated me really good. read more

Be careful with the premium overdraft fees. They would penalized you even if your money is on hold over the weekend until Monday you may have enough to cover the transaction which cause your account to overdraft anyway with overdraft fees. They went up on their overdraft fee which is $32 per transaction. They told me I need to get my check register and keep up with my money better. I've been a long time member with DFCU as well and I do not like to be penalized for money that I already have in my account. I never experienced something like this with previous banks. Normally, they will wait until everything is recorded Monday and then if you overdraft your account they will charge you the overdraft fee but this is not the case. read more

For the past few months issues in my life has caused financial problems.As a result, several overdraft charges were applied to my Dfcu financial account within the past few months.Being a member Dfcu financial for over 23 years, as well as paying off my car loan on time (with no late payments) 2 years ago, I felt I could reach out to Dfcu financial in my time of need. I asked if they would waive some of the fees they've repeatedly placed on my account, several in error, amounting to approx. $450. I was mercilessly declined by 3 different levels of management. They refused to listen or acknowledge my concerns and immediately became abrupt and course. Including the assistant of the Ceo, Theresa Fox, she vehemently refused to waive any overdraft fee, and became very abrasive, authoritative, and condescending. She was disrespectful, very inconsiderate, and relentless. I've asked to speak to the Ceo Mark Shobe, but was denied repeatedly. I have sent letters to Mr. Shobe, but have never received a reply. Over the last few years I have noticed how badly they treat and talk to members. I used to like being a member years ago.
