Some brickwork is cracked around suspended arches and cornerstone decorative pieces (e.g. above garage doors) but obviously has been for decades. I specifically called Cornerstone because I wanted a serious contractor who does actual poured footings, not that stacked cylinder mess that could actually crack your foundation worse as they use your house for the jack leverage. Dave was on time, courteous and (given that our appointment was in the middle of the Viral Apocalypse) understanding that I was working from home instead of 'off' for the day of our appointment. We spoke for a bit, he outlined everything well and asked pertinent questions about my reasons for calling, then got down to work inspecting...and recommended no work be done at this time. I offered to pay a service charge but he said that wasn't necessary. We did follow up on the phone briefly (I was busy when he was finished) and I am strongly considering coming back to them for some drainage improvements here and there as precautionary measures. Those cracks stabilized and did not get worse ever since. I recently obtained a quote from another foundation company, and they wanted to charge me almost $10,000. Rusty, part-owner of Ace Foundation Repair, came out and inspected my house and said I do not need foundation repair. Those cracks were just cosmetic changes as a result of some soil movement. He recommended that I put in a drip irrigation system to keep the soil around the foundation moist to minimize the soil movement. He just saved me almost $10,000! Rusty also patiently answered a bunch of my questions which made me feel that his assessment and recommendation were accurate. Be aware of less than honest foundation companies out there that try to upsell their services.
