The dentist told me that I needed to have a tooth extracted and told me what the insurance would pay. I told her there would be no extractions done. Receptionist gave me a date and time for next appointment and I marked my calendar. I then get a call my appointment needed to be changed as the doctor was on vacation and I told her that I was scheduled a week later and all she wanted to do is argue with me that I was wrong. Went to my new date appointment and the girl doing my X-rays said I was there for an extraction and a crown and I told her no. I was there for a routine six month exam. Was not told that I would not have Dr. Sohi - the dentist that came in said she was filling in and if that was okay. Kind of late to ask me that. She continued to check my teeth and then cleaned them while giving me a shower at the same time. I mentioned to the girl that did the X-rays about the appointment mix up and she went on to say that I called in January to change the date which I never did. She wanted to schedule my next appointment and I told her no that is fine. I feel that this office just wants to keep selling you services that you do not need or want. I will continue looking for a new dentist just as I did six months ago.

It had already been diagnosed by a dermatologist as a benign cyst.This was explained to the staff prior to setting the appt. We were told and I quote "this is routine and we will get you right in." My family member shows up and never even meets the doctor. The office staff are demanding panoramic X-rays of the jaw and teeth. Keep in mind the visit was for a cyst removal on the inside of a lower lip. They said until we did the x-rays, the doctor wouldn't even see them. Then the nurse or dental assistant explained that this would be very expensive... I should mention we told them we would be cash patients because of no dental insurance. All she kept reiterating was how expensive this would be. I doubt this doctor even remembers the hippocratic oath. My relative was sitting there in discomfort, expecting to get the cyst removed only to find out that if they did not get the panoramic x-rays on parts are their mouth that had nothing to do with their medical issues they would not be seen. Typically the doctor comes in assess the situation then orders the modality of care appropriate for the situation correct? This place is run by a shakedown artist and no one should send their family to this place ever. I wonder if this place is mobbed up they seem to have the extortion part down real well.

Well, I'm not having a good fall. I need a bunch of dental work done, as I'd neglected my teeth…read moresince the start of the pandemic. I saw Dr Nyguen in the office on 11/01 & they told me that they were going to send in a prior authorization request to my insurance that day. Three weeks later, I had not heard anything from the office. I called them on 11/20 but they said that they had not heard anything yet & that the insurance "could take a month, especially near the holidays." I called them again on the 27th, & Jacqueline gave me the same answer, again. I spoke to her next on 12/5 & they were "still waiting for approval." I told her I was going to call Aetna to check & see why this was taking so long. She told me that was a good idea and it might help. I wondered why SHE hadn't already been calling them. As soon as I completed the call with Jacqueline, I called Aetna. I'd really been hoping to maximize my insurance benefit by getting part of this work done on this year's insurance & doing the rest of the work in January using the 2024 insurance. Well, to my surprise, the insurance lady said that they had received a request from Altamesa Dental on 11/20. Remarkably, this was the same day that I'd called the dental office initially and was when I was first put off. Did the office neglect to send in the request on 11/01 and then, after I'd called on 11/20, that's when they finally sent it in? Or, was it really just a massive coincidence that the insurance got the request on 11/20, the same day I had called the office? I don't know. I believe that the offices usually fax or email these requests, so the insurance usually gets the request in 1-2 days. I do know that it only took Aetna 3-4 business days to grant the approval to do 90% of the proposed work--AND THAT WAS DURING THANKSGIVING WEEK! The insurance lady told me that they'd approved all but one procedure but that was fine because that procedure could be done in January. I don't know if Altamesa Dental dropped the ball by not actually submitting the authorization on 11/01 or, maybe, they sent the request through the mail (!) and it got lost. Even if I were to give them the benefit of the doubt, the office still should have followed up on it AT LEAST ONCE between 11/01 & 12/05. I guess they needed someone else to do their work for them. While I was speaking with the Aetna lady, she put me on hold & called the dental office to verbally inform them of the approval. But now, after "someone" had been jerking my chain for 5 weeks, the office can't give me an appointment to finally even START this work for another week-on 12/12. The office will be closed from 12/20/23 through 1/2/24. Obviously, this does not leave enough time to do a crown, the molds, or to get a referral so I could go see an endodontist for a root canal. So, due to 6 weeks of delays, there will be no maximizing of my insurance benefits this year. This delay cost me the $1000 that the insurance WOULD have paid toward my dental care in 2023. I have been going to this dental office since the 1990's. During this period, the practice was run by two other dentists. This was my first time to see this dentist, Dr Brian Nyguen, since he'd taken over the practice. He was very nice & my wife likes him as her dentist. I have no problem with him or with the exam nor with the proposed work that we'd discussed. However, this cluster is going to cost me a lot more than it had to. And, due to this unnecessary delay..........I won't be able to do the 2nd part of this treatment until the 2025 insurance starts. I wonder if Dr Nyguen even knows that his staff does not follow up on "prior authorizations". This single incident has cost the practice thousands of dollars of income. I know I needed a lot of work done but that sounded extreme. Got a 2nd opinion and the Dr looked at me like I was crazy when suggested all the Hue said needed to be done. She advised I only needed two crowns. Also, my tooth didn't need to be pulled. "I want to do everything possible to save your teeth and I'm sure you don't need a root canal. She gave me two crowns only! Don't come here!!!! He'll try to do as much work as possible to code as much as possible on your insurance!! He doesn't care about how pain he'll dish out!

The manager called me the day before my appointment to inform me that they had incorrectly added my number to their appointment reminder system and they would still be charging me a cancellation fee even though I only wanted to reschedule my appointment, not cancel it.
