First time visit today but I look forward to returning! We saw the clothing swap and thought it would be a fun girls day out. The restaurant is rustic and so cool. The food was delicious! They serve vegetarian and vegan food. Flavor bombs throughout all of the shared plates we ordered. It's hard to pick a favorite between the peach salad, falafel, pizza and corn. Lots of free parking and they have a very cool event schedule. They have an amazing outdoor space that is perfect on a nice day. Lots of room for kids to play and they even had a ping pong table! Something to note is that I didn't realize this was not part of the New Hope/Lambertville part of town. It was about 20 minutes further out towards Point Pleasant where many go tubing! The restaurant, bar and outdoor are accessible to all, but if you have a problem with stairs, that is the only way to get to the upstairs space. I do have one suggestion. There were no vegan/vegetarian protein sources. Seitan, tofu and soya would be great additions and helpful to those looking for a higher protein option like me. When first arrived in Bucks County, Dharma Bums was under different ownership and was a hotspot for the "Dump the Pump" movement to deny Delaware River water for cooling the nuclear power plant named, Limerick. Abby Hoffman of Yippie fame was an organizer, frequently hanging out here and speaking his form of political enlightenment. That was then. Now, little has changed in the early 18th Century riverside village far north of New Hope and Lumberville that feels like Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. The bar is still in the basement. The backyard is still a peaceful glade for sipping cocktails or beer and listening to guitar or banjo chords and softly harmonic voices. Their website calls those days, "a simpler time," but I disagree. In fact, those days were complicated times as the community attempted to decide the future of Bucks and the ageless value of the natural flow of water. Demonstrations up and down the pristine Delaware were loud and at times destructive. Even back to Revolutionary times, the local patriots challenged the powers that be by word and deed, while others were loyal to the crown and spied on the rest or thieved horses to sell to the British. No. Those were the "times that tried men's souls." Hardly, simple. Nonetheless, the current incarnation of this tavern does possess the spiritual focus of Jack Kerouac, the author of Dharma Bums, On the Road and other highly influential books in my life. For that, I am grateful. My visit last weekend had me wondering why I hadn't been back in decades. The soulfulness mixed so well with local history, and but for the narrow paved roads and power lines, it could just as easily have been 1776 as 2026. The perfect place to celebrate and reflect on the 250th Anniversary of this inspirational country. Last night, the cocktails were well stirred and shaken. My Tamarind Margarita (without salt) was crisp with a pleasant tart kick. The Elote Corn Bite delicious and satisfying. The companionship of a dear friend, heartwarming. The live soundtrack from the local musicians, very well strung and sung. This may well become the best experience of 2026. Everything about this place has my heart. From the ambiance, to the service, to the unbelievable good, to the heartstrings they pull because I missed Blue Sage. I've been like 5 times in the last couple of months. I want to try everything! So let me list what I've had. Korean inspired street corn? 10/10 Vodka Gochujang pizza? Outstanding! (order an extra side of sauce bc you'll love it so much you'll want it anyway) Brussels Batata is also incredible. I've also had their Brussels caesar salad, their chili, their Korean cauliflower bowl and their Thai fries (good but not my favorite) I can't get enough of this place. We went with a party of 5 and ordered whatever the waitress mentioned was good. Everything was amazing and the portions are fairly large for the size. With drinks everything came out to be around ~$35 per person and left stuffed. They had a live band playing upstairs from 8-11 when we went and we could hear the bass downstairs. We were going to go upstairs to check it out but it was $15 pp but after spending so much on food and having such a great time downstairs we opted out of the music. Been meaning to get here and finally had the chance last night while one of my favorite local bands, Friends of Jerry, AKA John Johnsonson and the John Johonsonson band, made their debut at Dharma Bums. I hadn't been to New Hope in years but was immediately reminded of what a cute town it is. Beautiful architecture and scenery in this area, and DB is no exception. The entrance is like a hobbit hole, and like hobbit holes it leads to a welcoming and homey interior with wonder food and drinks on hand. I arrived a bit after 8 on a Friday night and business was bustling downstairs while I could hear the band playing upstairs. The rustic atmosphere is beautiful and compliments the building which is at least 100 years old. The upstairs was a treat with half the area dedicated to the stage/band and the back end had a few chairs and space to relax. The stage area had the plaster and lathe removed and left the beams exposed, beautifully advertising g the age of the building. The other half had been finished/painted and has a more modern look to it. The sound was great and there was plenty of room to spread out on the dance floor. At set break I went downstairs to try some of the food which I've heard great things about. Although they had a great beer selection, I had an hour drive ahead of me and wasn't drinking so went with my staple, a cherry coke. Allison, working the bar last night, was happy to oblige, and let me know the kitchen was open till 10. They feature an all vegetarian menu which has a lot of good options. I went with the Thai Jam Grilled Cheese and side salad. As the crowd moved downstairs between sets several people were eying up my grilled cheese, it was phenomenal! Sadly it looked so good it was gone before I got a pic. My first visit was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to get back for another show, great service, food, atmosphere, and live music! read more

And it just happens to be home to an incredible spot, Dharma Bums Bar, recently named one of USA Today's Top Restaurants of the Year! Housed in a historic building, this vegetarian restaurant features an adorable dog friendly courtyard where we were warmly welcomed by Kate, our server. She gave us fantastic recommendations, brought Brie a water bowl, and was such a joy to chat with. The food is amazing, made with fresh ingredients and we especially loved the Brussels Caesar, Falafel Naan, and the unforgettable butterscotch budino for dessert. Many dishes can also be made vegan or gluten-free upon request. The drool-worthy menu pairs perfectly with a great selection of hand-crafted cocktails, local draft beers, and wine. The courtyard itself is cozy and inviting, framed by a beautiful stone building and fully enclosed with a fence. Between the fire pit, ping pong tables, and relaxed seating areas, it is the perfect spot to unwind in a peaceful setting. I love Dharma Bums. The rustic, hippy interior was unexpected, but charming. We enjoyed our popcorn cauliflower and Bravas Tacos. Delicious with huge portions. The main reason I'm writing this review is a dish that I think about so much. I will go here again and again for a salad. The Brussels Caesar was/is so amazing. Completely not what I'd think a "Caesar" anything would be. So crunchy and spicy. Do not miss out on this dish. You'll become annoyingly preoccupied with having SALAD. No regrets. A really cool spot past NewHope on the Delaware. Folks of a certain age may recall tubbing from this area back in the day.... We came to see a friend perform at a singer/songwriter event but already knew about the ambiance and food and drink here. The food is vegetarian, not something I would seek out but I have been known to eat a veggie or 2. We tried a few things, I didn't love the tacos. Of the sweet potato or the cauliflower one, the cauli was better. But it had too much sauce and a crappy tortilla. I almost wonder if the tortilla was moldy? I think if the veggie had been served over veg fried rice this could be a good dish, on a soggy tortilla, it failed. Better received were the Thai street fries. The tap list was ok, but we had a few cocktails instead, overall very nice. But as I began, we were here for an event. The 4 hour program set is back $10 each. We knew we'd enjoy seeing our friend perform, but had no knowledge of the other acts. To our surprise, we liked them all! The upstairs' performance space is intimate but also fairly spacious with tables casually arranged near the stage. Sound was good and the place evoked a good mood for all involved. Staff was friendly but perhaps another bartender is needed when it gets busier. I hope to come back to see other live music here, will probably eat elsewhere though. read more

Great food and music! I had the good fortune to have dinner at Dharma Bums recently, and was very impressed with the quality, service, and cost. I chose the Marina Tacos and have to say it was among the best meals I have had in recent years. I must admit that as a non-vegetarian I was a bit skeptical; but I was more than satisfied. The sauce on the tacos combined with the blue cheese was the perfect combination of flavors. You will not go wrong here. After dinner I stayed for the music and was treated to an outstanding show from Steal Your Face, a band that plays there several times as a year. A lot of last-minute decisions were made on Saturday afternoon, and this was one of them. I stopped by Dharma Bums with an old chum for lunch prior to a wild winery visit a few minutes' drive away. I grew up probably 25 minutes or so from this area in Hunterdon County, and I have quite a few young pup memories of driving past the wild, large antique store just up the road on the way to visit Peddlers Village or the sheep in Lahaska. Despite not being entirely sure where this was located, the signage made it pretty easy to spot, and I was able to secure parking right off the street with minimal drama. It WAS a little more difficult to find the entrance, which was on the side toward the very back of the building (a ye olde stone one, for the record). Our first attempt to get inside (which admittedly just involved staring quizzically at a door that didn't look like it got a ton of use from the public) was unsuccessful, but there were instructions there to use a different, "barrel" door. Upon discovery, the barrel door was exactly what it sounds like - a giant barrel-like structure that had star decorations hanging from the interior that reminded me of Spencer Gifts. Once inside, my chum noted that this space used to be a dive bar, which sounded about right. Dive bars around here are either in dilapidated shacks or restored colonial buildings, and I was pleased to be in the latter. Although the mac and cheese bites looked intriguing, I ended up getting the Grilled Cheese entree with fries. The Grilled Cheese was prepped with naan bread and tomato chutney; it was better than I thought it would be, with a fun flavor profile for the palate. The chutney gave it some sweetness and spice that separated this from the standard menu option you'd get anywhere else. The fries were a mistake, at least in terms of my personal palate preference - I'm a crispy fry adherent and these were pretty squishy on the whole. They also definitely needed ketchup for flavoring purposes. I'm sure there are plenty of customers who enjoy these, but they weren't my jam. As much as I enjoy my spot at the top of the food chain, I didn't mind putting that to the side for a meal here (an unapologetically vegetarian establishment). There were a few other options on the menu I'd have zero issue sampling as well, and the service was perfectly fine. As an added bonus for the literary nerds out there, you can munch on your food in the presence of a portrait of Jack Kerouac. I prefer the thirst trap known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, but different strokes for different folks. read more

Drive up from Philadelphia after visiting a museum. It's hard to find Vegetarian Vegan restaurants in the first place - but we had two choices in the area and chose Dharma Bums. We were very pleasantly surprised by the amazing food. We shared two appetizers: the cauliflower and guacamole and then shared the mushroom pot pie entree. All were beautiful flavorful creative dishes that had I not gotten so full I would've ordered more. A very cozy place in a beautiful spot just a 10 minute or so scenic drive north of the center of New Hope. I wish I lived closer because I could see myself being a regular. Met the owner who was super friendly - this place is also a music venue with weekly events and an artist space with creative workshops. Definitely take the trip! read more

We stopped here after a hike with the Lambertville/New Hope Women's Group and had a wonderful time! It was a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't too crowded. We only came for lunch, but I would love to come by for an open mic night or sewing circle as advertised by flyers posted around the restaurant. Maybe some time soon! The food was wonderful. I'm not vegetarian, but some people in our group were. They raved about their lunches, which included a vegetarian pot pie, cauliflower tacos, and a mushroom cheese"steak." Even though I'm not really a veggie gal, I was able to find multiple things that looked great. I got the grilled cheese and their special pig chai hot cider (proceeds go to the placement of pigs in farms). I could not get enough of either part. The tomato chutney really made the grilled cheese special. The prices are high, but the food is quality. Everyone wolfed down their food before we could even take pictures! We took a tour of the space before we ate. The downstairs bar area is super cool and divey. The entrance is made to look like a barrel with floating candles-- very Harry Potter. The upstairs is a lot more mid-century modern, and it's where the bands play. There's even a small backyard space where they host yoga sometimes! Parking may be an issue, as there's only a small lot in the front. I would advise carpooling. 10/30 EDIT: The owner just informed me they have additional parking at the rear of the building! Service was great and one of our party were friends with the bartender and server. I would love for this place to get more foot traffic, but I'm a little worried our special spot will be discovered! Amazing spot! We came here to watch our friends band play (The Green Dream) and had such a great time. We spent a good amount of time in the courtyard with our kids (2.5 and 4.5). They had such a great time playing ping pong/bocce and running around with one of the bar owners kid. The nibbles were so good. We ordered the street fries, onion rings, and Mac and cheese balls. Everything was delicious and would 100% order again, but the Mac and cheese balls in the curry chutney was mouth watering!!! The place is decorated in such a special way. The entrance was so whimsical with the floating candles. Service was amazing, would visit again just for that. Our kids loved the pumpkin buckets filled with candy. 100% recommend. We will be back. Visited last night for the first time. I can't say that I would recommend to everyone. The atmosphere was super casual ... think antiques warehouse with a little 50-year old dust in the corners. Also, the "basement" got very loud with two larger groups. One of us was cold the entire visit with an air conditioner blowing on our table. Service was excellent and friendly. Drinks were delicious and creative. The peach burrata was excellent. The Mission Tacos and Tomato Sandwich were ok. Portions were a good size and prices fair. Some people will love DB, some won't. The decor in the upstairs concert area has a fun mid century vibe and the downstairs and outdoor areas have a nice relaxing atmosphere. Great to have this classic Point Pleasant - Delaware River Valley stone building venue re-opened! Have been a couple of times, and met some great new neighbors, as well as reconnected with good old friends. Growing up here we always called it AJ's, so easy transition to DB's. Kept some of best of AJ's, and made nice improvements, eg beer & drink selections, clean draught taps, great outdoor courtyard space with picnic tables, outdoor ping pong table, 1st floor vintage space, some healthy and really tasty (yes, vegan) appetizers, etc. Let alone a great band on both visits. The reggae band up on 1st floor made me feel like back down in Jamaica... yaa--mann. The other band down in basement bar played some early Grateful Dead sounds. My family and I came for lunch today - my second visit, their first-and the food was sublime! The chef is creative, talented and formerly worked at Blue Sage Vegetarian Grille - my favorite restaurant for years. We ordered the delicious baba ghanoush as an appetizer. I loved my K-pop cauliflower tacos; they melted in my mouth! Others ordered the falafel on naan and said the naan could have been a bit lighter and the grilled cheese was tasty. We shared the butterscotch budino for dessert and enjoyed every rich bite. The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance- Jack Kerouac and Grateful Dead photos and posters and what sounded like Dead bootleg albums playing made me happy. The only reason this is a 4 rather than a 5 star rating is because it was cold in the restaurant on both of my visits. read more

I been coming since Applejacks a bit after the Abbie Hoffman days. New place has a cool "Prairie Home Companion" crowd on a Wednesday. I support the effort. Beer selection is cool and the drink specials are interesting. They're getting some very good bands. Blonde haired bartendress was very nice, competent, and flexible when we moved outside. I appreciate the vibe you're trying to create but instead of 100% vegetarian (they were all excellent) can we go maybe 80/20? Like 1 burger choice and 1 wings option? The bar tender (blonde woman)was rude and chose to clean down the bar instead of making drinks we had been waiting 20 minutes for. Our server was an incredibly rude and vapid young person who forgot that being a server means service. She ignored us and seemed annoyed when we asked for things. Overall, it felt like this was the project of some trust fund fake hippy who had money to spend and wanted to create some hipster hangout that no hipster would ever hangout at because of the pretentiousness. As a vegetarian, you're going to be hard pressed to not thoroughly enjoy the savory foods at this gem of a restaurant/tavern. As a stater, my wife & I tried the Crispy Seitan "Wings." What a wonderful surprise: perfectly prepared & a delicious teriyaki sauce. My wife ordered their Seitan Cheese"steak" & I went with a matzah ball soup. Every item was delicious, hot and served in a timely fashion. We finished-off our dining with the Wonton Cannoli. They also serve a variety of craft & bottled beers. Our waiter/bar-keeper (Nick) was a pure pleasure. He provided great insights regarding the menu. Oh, and as an aside, the setting of Dharma Bums is warming and inviting. By the way, if you're not a vegetarian, you are still going to enjoy this place. Food this well prepared, in this type of setting, with this type of service is becoming difficult to find. I used to come here often, lol back when it was The Local, so was happy to learn it was reopening again as another bar and now a venue as well! Everything was great and the upstairs for live music was especially awesome. The owner was amazing too - after overhearing us wanting to leave and being unable to because of Ubers cancelling and no reception for a cab, he offered to drive us home to Doylestown and he did just that. Consistently good drinks and excellent food at very reasonable prices with portions enough to take home. The tofu katsu bowl and grilled cheese are personal favorites. The live music is always great, with smaller acoustic acts playing in the bar downstairs and a larger performance room upstairs. In addition, Dharma Bums offers more than just bar music. Workshops, open mic nights, movie nights, and drum circles to name a few of the offerings. Also, very nice staff in a cool space along the river close to nearby High Rocks. read more
