It saddens me that customer service is not at the forefront of this location of DiBruno Bros! This location is near my office in Center City, and I have had digital gift cards many years and when I attempt it to use at this location..the least effort is made to assist me in using the gift card! This visit I shared that the Ardmore location successfully assisted me in this process and I was turned away for the 2nd time - I was hopeful that the level of customer service would have improved but I was disappointed again! I enjoy all the offerings that DiBrunos offers (that is why they get the additional star) , but I will not return to this location again! read more

I got the Parma perfection, which I hoped would be a warm sandwich, but it was still good nonetheless! Not surprised to hear that this outlet of this Philadelphia tradition is closing. Stopped in here a few weeks ago. Some cheeses that were pre-wrapped were found to be moldy when we got home. Since this was an impulse trip after a local doctor's appointment I did not have a shopping bag with me. I got a lot of attitude and BS when I asked for a bag. If someone is spending $100+ dollars, the response to a request for a bag is not, "I don't get paid a commission for that." That is not the answer I would get at the Italian market location. In any case, perhaps when the focus on a couple of locations, service will return to the old normal. read more

In the 30+ years I've lived Philly, I think I've only written off a business once before. Today, sadly, DiBruno Brothers became the second. I don't know if it's the acquisition by ShopRite/Wakefern/Brown's or just a lack of employee/manager training, but customer service has gone steeply downhill. The philosophy of the cynical business plan: pay up for the $13 sandwich, that was falling apart upon presention. "Do you want that warmed up?" indicating the item has been pre-made. This is the best possible version of a cheese shop and pret a manger. You want cheese? They have ALL THE CHEESE. If you need it, they probably have it. They've got good breakfast sandwiches, great lunch options, and take-home options for dinner. It's not cheap, but it's certainly delicious. There are specials on weekdays, so you can get a take-home dinner option for a great price. There's a bottle shop too for all your boozy needs. There are wine tastings. Very pleased with my experience at DiBruno Brothers. I needed a meat and cheese platter for a party and after a surprisingly unsuccessful trip to the Reading Terminal Market (see my review!) I checked a search of Yelp and was happy to see how close DB was. I took a short walk and met Asa. He was a huge help. We just had to discuss an approximate price, if any guests had allergies, and was was liked, if anything in particular. I set a window of time to pick it up the next day. The next day I got my two-tray order; one with crackers and bread, and one with a well-set selection of cheese and meat. Then, disaster. While Asa handed it to me, the bag dropped and the food jumbled a lot in the container. I said it wasn't a problem and I'd just put everything back in place, but Asa said it was. He ended up giving a 10% discount and offered for next time to bring it personally wherever I needed the food. He was genuinely concerned to make sure things were right. The store has so much to offer with a bottle shop, sandwich shop, cheese shop, coffee, and more. All staff were very helpful. The cheese and meats were a big hit at the party, with all of the "fan favorites" that Asa picked out along with the candies cashews were quickly eaten. We loved DiBruno's, considering it one of the best parts of life in Bella Vista, but are thinking we need to shift more of our gourmet shopping to Claudio's and RTM. We were unable to find a lot of the specialty items this year that we purchase around the holidays, including local boutique products, local bread, new novelty items, etc. In general, their staff at multiple locations seem less knowledgeable about the products' origins and much less excited about showing off their quality. Previously, employees selling cheese at DiBruno's seemed like interns wanting a cheese monger's career or a life in the Philly restaurant scene. We stopped by 9th St on a slow Monday this fall with some out-of-town guests to buy cheese for appetizers that night and for the first time in my life none of us were offered samples and I had to actively work hard to solicit suggestions while we were considering which to buy. First world problems clearly, but other long-term customers know what a dramatic shift in service this represents. We also got pushback at Rittenhouse for the first time when asked about using a separate/clean slicer (our daughter has a nut allergy and mortadella, etc, can be a cross-contaminant). After several months of random incidents hinting at less knowledgeable service, less selection, less availability, and less quality, we finally realized they have new corporate ownership. If you have come to the internet scratching your head that something seems off at one of Philly's favorite institutions, you are not alone. We know all good things come to an end (toasting you, Capogiro!), but we really thought DiBruno's would be here until Ralph's and Dante and Luigi's turned off the lights. read more

This was my first time in one of their shops and I totally see why people love it here. So many shelves and cases of goodies. I was really happy to find a jar of Sweety Drops. The cheese guy gave me and a pair of other ladies a variety of samples before we made our decisions. All in all very pleased with my visit. read more

I've always absolutely loved the food here but throughout the pandemic it's one of the few places I feel good about buying lunch from. Someone opens the door for you, they have sanitizer on either side. Everyone tries to be helpful without getting in your space. They are taking it very seriously and serving the community by staying open. I hope everyone takes time to appreciate the people who are still going to work everyday. In the past, I have gotten some amazing prepared and pre-packaged items at this location. Today, however, I did not have a good experience. I went in to order a breakfast sandwich. It was not crowded at all. I waited 10-15 minutes for it to be prepared while the worker was talking to another employee. Then, a different employee handed me my sandwich, reading back what I had ordered. I left, drove away, and then later found I was given someone else's order. Having already left, I did not go back, but after as long as I waited for the wrong food, I'm not sure I would have wanted to wait again anyway. These things happen, but it was disappointing, especially given the wait and that I don't eat meat and got a sandwich with bacon on it. Lesson learned: Make sure you are not in a time crunch, and check your food before you leave. read more

If you are familiar with the Italian market then the reputation of Dibruno Brothers is already entrenched in your mind. The cheese and meat mongers know their stuff and they welcome you to try their wares. I like that you can sample and pick your favorites accordingly. This is a great spot for lunch or coffee and since I live nearby I'm here often. I would have given 5 stars but I found there to be inconsistencies in quality between the cafe and the rest of the departments. The original in south Philly was always fabulous and the flagship store on Chestnut is as good as Zabar's in NY, I'm lucky to live near the 9th street store which, though smaller, still offers a nice selection of cheeses and other wonderful gourmet items. I used to love this place but it has really gone down hill. The last time I was there, the person behind the counter did not change their gloves between 3 customers that I witnessed. They touched a million surfaces in between, including pulling up their pants, and then touched a big piece of cheese that they wrapped and put in the cheese case. Living near the Italian Market I've been to the original location on 9th St. and always felt it was a little small, so I'm glad to see they have put themselves in a space with more room and more options. Whereas I don't think the one on 9th street has pre-made food, this one does. It's great for a grab and go meal, somewhere to stop to bring something home for dinner, and of course meats and cheeses. The staff have always been super friendly and knowledgeable and I love the location. Also, they have wine and beer! This is a great place to stop if you're heading to a party and need to pick up some beer and an appetizer, if you want to sit down and grab some lunch, to stop by after work and pick up some dinner, or just to go and read a book and have a beer. The prepared food I got today (tortellini salad and arancini) were very good. All tasted fresh and flavorful. and the young woman that helped me was very nice and helpful when I asked about ingredients I also got a linzer tart and rainbow cookies and unfortunately they both could have been a lot better. There wasn't enough jam in the linzer tart especially since the cookie part was very thick. The jam also seemed dried up and not very fresh. The rainbow cookies had a good flavor but it was so so dry which was really disappointing especially since these things aren't cheap. The cheese mongers here really know their stuff! I came here after having a sampler of their cheeses at a local event and they absolutely blew me away. No matter what you're into, they will have something for your tastes. I love soft cheeses and their taleggio is absolutely phenomenal. I could eat that on some warm sourdough every day for the rest of my life, it's that good. Their gorgonzola dolce is also a star. I didn't have a chance to pick up any of their meats but I had to leave something for the next time I'm in the area. read more

I am very depressed at the direction that Di Bruno Bros. has been going over the past several months, especially since entering into a partnership agreement with Jeff Brown of Shop Rite. The unique items that used to define Di Brunos are slowly disappearing and being replaced by supermarket staples. Gone is the fresh squeezed OJ, replaced by Natalie's OJ which can be found in any supermarket at a much reduced price. That was my Di Brunos staple and while it may have not been a hugely profitable item, I would wind up buying many other items that were during the multiple times per week I shopped there. Gone is the sandwich bar, replaced by run of the mill products. The friendly face of the maestro sandwich maker that made buying a pleasure, gone, never to be seen again. The wonderful spicey shrimp and garlic shrimp...gone. The many soup varieties....gone. Where is the house baked ham and roast beef? Di Bruno Bros. are now headed toward food mediocrity and from what I can tell, are losing customers. Greed has its cost and that cost is resulting in a product that continues to decline. The brothers need to check in with their customers and even employees who are lamenting their direction. Take notice before you just become just another failed entity that used to be unique and fantastic. read more
