No frills deli with excellent cheesesteaks. Reasonable prices and very tasty, although the portions are not as big as some other places in town. Don't skip the fries, they tasted very fresh and just the right amount of crisp!

You walk in and you're probably thinking, "There's no way this place has any good cheesesteaks." After all, cheesesteaks can be a hit or miss. Maybe the bread is too chewy or hard. Maybe the steak is dry or scarce. But, I was wrong. Once I got my order, I went downstairs and some guy plugged his phone into the speakers and started playing music. It's dimly lit with neon signs everywhere and there are lunch tables spread out in this basement. It reminded me of a grown up middle school lunch period except for the random guy blasting trap in the corner. Interestingly enough, it made me think, this is definitely why I love Philly. So now that the vibes are immaculate, you open up your roll and the cheesesteak is smothered with wiz and the beef is plentiful. There was not a single bite of dry steak. The cheese and steak melted together like how it was meant to be. But the bread... the bread was soft yet durable enough to hold everything together. The bread didn't break and it didn't fill your mouth to the point all you were eating was bread. The steak and cheese hit your taste buds first, followed by the soft and spongy texture if the bread. Each bite was truly a blessing. I'm not cheesesteak connoisseur but damn, that was a good cheesesteak.

Don't let the bodega front fool you- believe the hype! Now, I'm a "new yawker"- I don't know the first thing about what makes a cheesesteak great. But this spot definitely falls into that category for me! We stopped by late at night, looking for a cheesesteak before we headed home to NYC. While talking to a bartender about food in the area- he told us we had to try the cheesesteak here. A local was giving it a glowing review- so we had to stop by! After getting our respective sandwiches (him steak, me chicken) we headed downstairs to what is certainly a unique seating area. Cafeteria tables, fun lights, and a sign that says to please not dance on the tables. It was definitely a vibe- and I was feelin' it! The cheesesteaks were perfection and everything we had hoped for. I'd definitely stop by if I was in the neighborhood again!

8.1/10. LOOK NO FURTHER WHEN looking for a spot to consume some AMAZING cheesesteaks. Welcoming vibe when entering. The cheese pull was AMAZING. SEASONING SPECTACULAR. As an over or under connoisseur UNDER 5.5. MADE TO ORDER. AMAZING. Price could be better $15.17 for a mushroom cheesesteak. Onions are included but could use some more. Was looking for to a place to eat when going to ice skate and found this place. If I were to rate this place in terms of driving, I would drive 20 minutes every 3 months for this place.

I was torn between three and four stars. Service was fast, and friendly Roll was fresh. Portion size was ample. The onions had no flavor. I cook with onions all the time-They were just very bland. I could see them, and there were plenty of them, but they had no flavor. Very odd-it makes me wonder if the onions were steamed or boiled. We also ordered these with "wiz"- (good old cheez wiz) but it really didn't taste like cheez wiz-the flavor was different and it grossed me out a little. They put a ton of it in the cheesesteak-but the flavor was off to me. I've had more flavorful cheesesteaks. Last time we came to Philly we went to Sonny's. It was tasty, but they skimped on the wiz. I'll definitely try a different place next time I'm in Philadelphia.

The ambiance is amazing it is clean they have nice signs / decorations. The service impeccable because I am traveling in a big group of around 70 people and this restaurant has such a good system. The food is amazing the fries are on top the cheese stake it pretty good to. I definitely recommend this to everyone who is in the area

I decided to try someplace new for national cheesesteak day, which led me to Philly's Gourmet Steaks. I ordered a standard cheesesteak with onions, American cheese, and ketchup. The woman making the cheesesteak made it perfectly. Chopped juicy steak, just the right amount of onions, plenty of melted American cheese, and the right amount of ketchup. It was messy and delicious! Unfortunately, the roll holding it all together was not top quality, preventing it from being a 5 star steak shop. But it's really close to home and I will put it in my rotation.

The perfect late night spot for food and drinks. I was visiting Philly so it felt cool to have a cheesesteak while patrons DJ'd the downstairs sound system via Bluetooth. Not to mention the cheesesteak and chicken philly were great.

Mushroom cheesesteak had the desired oil drip factor. Warm bread, thin crust, generous steak, onion and mushroom. Choice of cheeses.

I visited for lunch during Restaurant Week, which I enjoyed because of its close proximity to the corporate hub in Center City where I work and for its solid menu. I was seated quickly at a high-top for my noon reservation. The restaurant is much larger inside than it looks, split in half with the left providing an upscale bar aesthetic while the right presents a quieter, modern lounge feel. (It seemed like service staff was directing those with previously-booked OpenTable RSVPs to the lounge side.) Service was great, as my waitress continuously checked in during my meal even as more customers arrived throughout the lunch period. I appreciated being offered to add fries on my burger order, as Village Whiskey didn't have it automatically added on the RW menu. The only drawback was she forgot to ask how I wanted my burger cooked, but it came out medium rare which is the way I eat it regardless. I trust that's how they default, which is a good sign. The Food Breakdown: Deviled Eggs (4/5) - Classic, solid, and a good starter. I honestly selected it since the other appetizer options didn't really appeal to me, but nothing spectacular or negative about it. Four comes with each order. All-American Burger (5/5) - Fantastic. I'm not a pickle enjoyer, but the acidity just blended into each juicy bite. The jam had a slight kick, and you can taste the fattiness within the double Wagyu smash patties. High-quality all around and a solid portion size. Duck Fat Fries (4/5) - They were well-seasoned, and each order comes with a small side of ketchup. Granted I didn't ask, but I almost wish they offered a spicy mayo instead because it would complement the crunchiness better. Overall, the food quality and taste were superb. My only caveat was the price, knowing that $35 after tax and gratuity for lunch (without an additional drink) is costly. I wouldn't be able to come everyday, but it certainly has my vote for sharing with others the destination that has an immaculate burger.

The wait staff informed me that there was NO ROOM for us in the EMPTY seating area, so we were seated next door in the bar area. If you can tell me why there was no room in an empty restaurant for a party who arrived ON TIME, please someone let me know. At any rate the bar area was fun and lively but a bit narrow to navigate. Since it was happy hour, we ordered all of the $6 Snacks and some $8 snack items. OOOK, here we go: Hot chicken slider( you only get 1 folks) very good and had the right amount of toppings 5/5 Pulled pork slider: Very flavorful, juicy, and tender: 5/5 Caesar salad: 5/5 Deviled eggs. Good, but too salty Fried pickles: Good, but too salty Chicken & Andouille Gumbo: This was excellent. The braised chicken thighs were seasoned well and very tender. The pickled red onions really elevated this dish. 5/5 The grilled salmon had a great char and crunch. It was not dry nor over cooked. 5/5 The burger was delicious just as a burger should be and the famous duck fat fries were very crunchy. 5/5 for both Happy hour is really the time to go, but make sure they honor your reservation. Til we eat again....

On a whim, I called Butcher Bar and told them I know it's last minute on a Saturday night, but could they accommodate 9 people. They told me if we were there in 30 minutes they could make it work, so we rushed over. We sat at the bar for drinks as they cleaned up a table. They overheard us talking about how The Trough would be nice (feeds 8 for $300, but was more than enough for us 9), and said if we wanted that they could get it started as the table was prepared. We said yes, and were sat a few minutes later with drinks in hand. Jenna (Gema? She had grape earrings) was a fantastic server and just so kind and attentive. She kept the drinks flowing and The Trough arrived sooner than I expected and was everything I wanted for dinner and more. I can't thank Butcher Bar enough for saving the night for my 40th and just providing a fantastic experience. We'll be back, and we promise to give more notice next time! :)
