Jerk Chicken Cheesesteak & Salmon Cheesesteak with a side of fries.
    Keani W.

10/10! My salmon cheesesteak was amazing. It came with a sweet chili sauce on the side that added the perfect little kick. The portion was so generous that I had to save half for later--and it was just as good the next day. I visited on a Saturday night, so the wait was pretty long. To their credit, they let us know upfront that there was only one server working that night. We weren't in a rush so the long wait didn't bother us. I did take away a star for having one server available though. The takeout line never seemed to end, which tells me this is a very popular spot. The dining area is small, but there are a few outdoor tables available. This was my first visit, so I'll be sure to try again to see if the wait is a normal thing. One thing to note: gratuity is automatically added to all checks.

Still a delicious cheesesteak and my go to when I'm in Philly. Atmosphere is urban, but civilized. It would be great if the location was bigger with more seating. I will return and highly recommend this establishment.

Cheesesteak & fries were great! Service was good. Restroom needed some attention. Requesting an additional tip on 18% gratuity included with a 3% credit card surcharge & taxes ($22.18) was ridiculous. Bring cash.

Taste Cheesesteak Bar has become a favorite spot for a salmon cheesesteak fix! First, parking is very difficult to find, but with patience, it is possible lol. Once you walk in, it's a no-frills, smaller spot. I like their logo! It always appears clean. You're greeted with the option to use the take-out screen to place your order, or one of the friendly employees will ask if you want to sit at the bar or at the high-top chairs, which we chose. On our most recent visit, we went for our favorite, their salmon cheesesteak. It's so HUGE that we share it and order separate fries. Even half of the cheesesteak is still a big portion that we didn't even finish. It's flavorful and cooked perfectly! Ugh! I can't wait to have it again! They have happy hour, and I got a drink that came with lights that change colors, which was cool. Our server, I believe her name was Mylisha, was great and attentive!

If I could give this place a -1 I would. Waited over an hour for my food. They kept saying it was on its way out. After waiting forever the waitress eventually tells us she doesn't know what happened to our ticket and they can't serve us unless we pay again. When I asked for a refund they explained that the actual payment didn't go through. Fast forward two days later I check my Amex app and there's a $90 charge. Left hungry and robbed of $90 after waiting for an hour and a half.

The salmon cheesesteak was better than I expected. It was very filling and definitely needed a knife and fork or two big hands to eat. The flavor was fantastic and the sweet chili sauce that came with it made it even better. I will return to try the oxtail cheesesteak. Note: Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 4-8pm.

Our friends have been raving about this place for a few years now. We tried to visit twice but both times it was really crowded and parking was tough. Our timing this time around was perfect. We had family visiting from out of town and stopped in for lunch. It wasn't crowded, the bartender was friendly. Everything was neat and clean. The ambiance was laid back. I think their cheesesteaks all come with onions, peppers and copper sharp. I was intrigued by the salmon cheesesteak, but ended up going with chicken in a seeded roll and added mushrooms. It was delicious. The chicken was seasoned really well which is rare. Most places barely add salt & pepper. We also ordered the jerk chicken and a regular beef and couldn't resist sharing cheese fries. Everyone loved their food. They also have a happy hour and I had a margarita- which was tasty. We'll definitely be returning!

I've been here twice and I've been satisfied twice. The staff is cool, great spot to be for sporting events. They have high top tables and seating as well as bar seating. The food is full of flavor and it is definitely a spot I will go back too. The cheesesteak is stuffed and flavorful, meats seasoned well and they add good amount of cheese, I'd still say get extra. My favorite thing from here is the jerk chicken fries. Heat, flavor, and the amount you get, you'll have a good nap afterwards.

No healthy options but what can you expect from a cheesesteak bar? LOL We enjoyed the chicken cheesesteak, and jerk salmon steak which were huge portions. The cheese fries were enjoyed also. I really liked that the food and drinks are made in front of you which keeps people honest and clean. Service was great and I would definitely return on a cheat day!

Omg! I have almost no words. Came to Philly for a da trip and this restaurant was recommended to us on the train. It is a fairly small restaurant, with a bar. Not too many tables, but they do also have a kiosk where you can order food to go if you don't plan on sitting inside. They do also offer outdoor seating. The owner/or manager, not 100% sure, is very nice and was super attentive and helpful. I usually don't like cheesesteaks, however, this one was AMAZING! It was the perfect amount of chicken and peppers. I did ask for minimal cheese and it was just enough. This is the first time I've had a cheesesteak and wanted another. I can't wait to return!

    Philly no cheese

I got a beef Philly with no cheese, onions and peppers. Flavor was there, a little too much oil/grease, a little on the pricey side. But still very good

First off, I would give this a 7 out of 5 stars if you would allow me. Now: Let's Get Busy! To my fabulous waitress Naomi: Thanks for the EXCELLENT and professional service! I told you I would give a shout out. You deserve it! Food: I personally had the Jerk Chicken Cheesesteak and I will never, ever share mine, even though it is huge! Mine, ALL mine! Spicy, tantalizing, insatiable to your palate. ( For transparency, I am allergic to onions, so mine came without ) The combination of all their ingredients will take you an erogenous zone of taste! My son had the regular Beef Cheesesteak and rated it 5 stars also: Juicy, tender meat with awesome flavor! People of all walks of life, aliens, and creatures of the sea, you have to go to TASTE. Their cheesesteaks will stop you from hitting those tourist traps and feeling "Mediocrerized". My only thing is I would love the lighting to be a slight bit warmer (my preference, no big deal), but the ambiance is nice. Trendy bar, nice tables. Don't hesitate to visit this place in downtown Philly, right near the Sonesta Hotel and City Hall. I am proud to support this Black owned business that caters to all walks of life. I saw all walks of life there in my visit.

We had lunch here before getting on the road to head back to DC. It's a very small cheesesteak spot with a modern twist. I liked that they had several TVs with various games showing, full bar, and a kiosk for ordering to go items. We chose to dine in, but were disappointed to learn that they could not accommodate four people at any table, except the one near the door they created by pushing two tables together. Larger tables were outside, but I'm not a fan of alfresco dining unless it's near something scenic. For a tiny spot, the food was well done. The cheesesteaks were flavorful, and no condiments were needed. We weren't a fan of being served our drinks in plastic cups, but it's more of a dive spot. Customer service was good, the music was nice, and we ultimately had a good time. I would definitely return for a cheesesteak when I'm back in Philly. I just don't suggest this spot for large groups.

We ordered two Philly cheesesteak and one chicken cheesesteak. We were asked if we wanted "fried onions" and well it the same as grilled onions and not like an onion ring, just FYI. The chicken did not have much flavor but adding the peppers they give you it adds some and my mom enjoyed it. The cheesesteak was good too but also the steak was a bit flavorless. The sandwich is big and you need to ask to be cut in half, they just give it to you whole. It gets busy and they only accept cash. They do have an ATM machine on site if needed. Parking is on the street and not bathroom that I saw. This would be a place I come back but I'll bring some salt and pepper with me.

John's Roast Pork is legendary in Philly - it's been around for decades - 96 years to be exact! I'd been there once before many years ago (couldn't remember anything about it) and thought it was time for a revisit. I got the large Roast Pork sandwich - you can see from the attached picture the 'preferred toppings' (Dad's Way) are: Mustard Raw onions Hot seeded pepper American cheese I had only the Mild Provolone cheese on mine - no mustard, raw onions or seeded pepper. I would have had cooked (caramelized) onions - but they had only raw...and American cheese was not a choice for me (I was raised on it). The pork is supposed to be 'slow roasted (7 hours) pork shoulder (pork butt)' - and it may very well be, but it reminds me of the meat that's carved off the large vertical rotisseries for gyros. It doesn't look that appealing - it's like a large sub sandwich. The pork was soft, tender and seasoned well - the roll was very good - John's had been getting its bread from Carangi Bakery. However, the bakery closed due to a fire so I'm not sure where the bread is from, unless it reopened. I finally satisfied my curiosity about John's and went to see what the sandwich was like. While it probably ranks as one of the better 'pork/steak' sandwiches in Philly, I just couldn't get excited about it.

I was in…read moreChester for a football game, but made some time to stop by both of the city's famous Cheesesteak stands. The Original Pat's King of Steaks is located in South Philly, specifically in the Passyunk Square neighborhood. It sits at the intersection of East Passyunk, South 9th, and Wharton. The building has many different signs and lights that will let you know that you are in the correct place. Since this is in the city, parking can be somewhat tricky. There are times I have had to circle around, or get whomever I was with to drop me off and have them come back. However, sometimes I have secured street parking not too far away. This will just depend on the time of day, and really the luck of the draw, if you are able to easily locate parking. This is an outdoor stand, meaning there is no inside to enter. You will order at the counter, and food is packaged to-go. However, there are some tables surrounding the building that you can dine at. They are all under the roof overhang, so you will be somewhat protected from the elements. On this day, it was not terribly busy. I really did not have to wait in any kind of line before being able to place my order. This was around 4:00 on a Saturday in September. First, I took some time to look over the menu posted near the sidewalk. There is also a helpful guide on "how to order a steak," for those that are unfamiliar. When it was my first time here, I actually found the humorous display very helpful. I placed my order for two classic Cheesesteak Wit, made with Cheez Whiz. When ordering, you specify if you want Wit (with onion) or Wit-Out (no onion). Given that I was wanting to try the most authentic sandwich I could, I opted for the onions and the traditional Cheez Whiz. My sandwiches only took a minute or so to be ready. As stated, it was not busy, and they are able to whip up these sandwiches rather quickly. I ended up taking my sandwiches to-go, and having them for meals the next few days. They reheat well, and have good flavor. I like having the onions on it for an added texture. Pricing is not terrible. Pat's is more expensive than Geno's by $2 for the same sandwich. My total was $36 after tax for the two sandwiches, making them $18 each. You definitely are paying for the experience and the novelty that is coming to this famous corner of Philadelphia. But, this price is not out of the ballpark of other places in the area. The sandwich is a decent size, and you can definitely get two meals out of it if you are eating it by yourself. So, all that considering, it is a fair value for what you pay. It seemed like most menu items were $20 or under. FYI, they take both cash and card. The staff are quick and efficient. However, it will not be the most friendly or pleasant experience, especially if you do not know how to order. I am not saying that the experience was poor by any means, but be aware that this is not Disney World and they will not be overly kind to you at the order window. Being from Pittsburgh, I had never had a true Philadelphia Cheesesteak sandwich until a few years ago when I visited for the first time. Since that trip, I typically make it a point to stop and get a few sandwiches to take back home with me. I enjoy coming to Pat's for the atmosphere, and the true taste of Philadelphia. I recommend giving it a try at least once, just to say you have had it. Plus, the sandwiches are pretty tasty, too. I will definitely be back here on future trips to South Philly.
