The Pizzas are very reasonably prices. I did not found them outstanding though considering being in Naples. I liked the sides they had such as the potato balls. This place is bigger than it looks like from the outside. It got an entire second floor.

I went to this place with one thing in mind: frittatine di pasta. I waited in the line on the street at the window. It moved fast enough. I just pointed at what I wanted because I don't speak good Italian, handed the man my coins and was on my way. It is an enclosed dough around a meat sauce, peas, smoked cheese and bucatini. It was one of the most memorable things I ate in Italy. I will never go near Naples and not get one!

The pizza was great! We got the Buffalo margherita and the margherita pizza. Both had wonderful flavor! The service wasn't the best, but it was a quick stop at a counter. Best takeout pizza we have had for sure!

Pizzeria Di Matteo is a historic Neapolitan pizzeria that opened in Naples, Italy in 1936. It was founded by Salvatore Di Matteo. When they first opened, the pizzeria was only a countertop, a wooden oven and a window on the street where customers could lean in and ask for their pizzas. At that time, pizza was still considered a street food that was meant to be eaten on the go. Often called "booklet pizza", it would be folded in four to be held while walking. Today, the pizzeria has two floors and can accommodate over 150 seated diners. In addition to being a pizzeria, the eatery also operates as a 'friggitoria'. This means that they also sell fried foods such as arancini, fried eggplant, and pizza fritta (fried pizza filled with ricotta). These are considered cheap street foods that are intended to be eaten on the go. In 1994, U.S. President Bill Clinton was in Naples for the G7 Summit. Clinton (a huge fan of good pizza) stopped in at Pizzeria Di Matteo with his entourage of secret servicemen. The President happily gobbled down his delicious pizza. The head pizzaiolo at the time was Ernesto Cacialli, who later opened his own pizzeria down the street: 'Pizzeria dal Presidente'. Today Di Matteo is run by Raffaele Marigliano. The head chef and pizzaiolo is Salvatore's grandson, also named Salvatore Di Matteo. My wife and I visited Pizzeria Di Matteo on our honeymoon in July 2018. After looking over the menu, we both decided to order the same thing: a Margherita with Eggplant. It was heavenly! The crust had the perfect amount of chew, the sauce was so savory, and the cheese just melted in your mouth. This pizza was truly the work of a great artisan and definitely good enough for a President!

Worst meal in Naples. The crocche were cold and tasteless......and who liked cold, fried, mashed potato? Uh, no one The pizzas were likewise bland. The mushrooms were canned. The crust was plain The bottle of wine we ordered was straight out of the fridge.......uh, no. Not sure why this place has all the hype. We didn't experience it

So happy my partner and I stumbled upon this spot for our (self-guided) pizza tour. We sat upstairs near the window overlooking the bustling street. We each ordered a pizza to split as well as the fritto misto (which was an appetizer sampler of fried foods like arancini and zucchini). Overall the pizzas were delicious and the crust was some of the best I've ever had. While there are so many pizza spots in our Napoli bucket list, we may just have to go back here. Oh and it was super reasonably priced (most if not all pizzas were less than 10 euros).

Conveniently located in the old neighborhood of Napoli. I wouldn't say it's the best pizza in Napoli but it's definitely in the top five. Staff nice and food comes out fast. So if you're in a hurry to get some thing quick while sightseeing this is a great option. There are a ton of gross tourist traps in this area and I'm very thankful that we found this place.

Pizza at its worst!!! Sad that an institution like this puts out food of this quality!! No disrespect to anyone, but they are not making authentic Neapolitan pizza but pizza for tourists. Before even thinking of goon into this establishment& see if any locals are even going near it. The only locals are the people working there & laughing every time they drop food in front of guests. There is no ambiance it's all about pump & dump! When in Naples skip Di Matteo & you will have done yourself a favour! Much better pizza in North America.

After eating this pizza and returning to US, I can never look at pizza the same again. We went to Napoli especially just to go visit this place! We took a 2 hour ferry from Positano, but it was well worth it! Probably the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life! The place is a hole in the wall, but makes the best pizza that I had on our stay in Italy. I'll post a picture. I wish you could taste it.

The legendary must try Margarita pizza

Came here in the "morning" (around 10am) based on the suggestion of our AirBNB host and I will never see pizza the same ever again. We got here and got the Margarita to go, and tried some of the fried "Arancino" rice ball with meat and the fried "Frittatina". The fried balls didn't look too appetizing initially but the wife wanted to try them so we got them. Surprisedly they were really good, crispy and the outside, and the Frattatina was filled with potatoes and cheese. Overall really good, but not mind blowing. When I took the first bit of the folded Margarita pizza (my first time seeing a folded pizza, and had to take a second to find the best bite, but I think the trick is to just go for it) I had to stay myself from my complete and utter blown mind. The crust/the dough was so thin and crispy and with the char balanced out the sweetness of the tomato sauce, but the sauce itself was simply magical. I wouldn't think twice if you told me they have merlin or something locked out back just blessing the sauce. The tomatoiness completely engulfs your taste buds and balanced with the crust, really defined a pizza life changing moment.

I am not sure why this place does not have a five-star rating. Being my first time in Naples, I had no idea what I was doing. However, I knew that I had to find some exceptional pizza. Naturally, being in Naples- the pizza will be much better than the rest of the world, by default. But why stop there? I ran into some local Neopolitans that were showing me portions of the city and they chose here. From the outside, you might think it's a fast food joint that has no sit-down options. That's not the case, there's seating upstairs. The place was incredibly busy, so we took a reservation time and walked back in 30-40 minutes. Do this- take the time to get a pastry, have a beer or a tea, breathe a little. We came back and we were seated. The place was packed- there's obviously a reason why tons of locals are here. We each ordered a Peroni Nastro Azzurro (beer). They ordered different variations of the classic. I ordered a margherita pizza. It was the best pizza that I've had thus far in my life. Also, I say this as a proud pizza snob haha. Give this place a chance, you'll possibly also have the best pizza of your life. Also, Bill Clinton randomly has also eaten here? As the locals say "Teng famm!".

    Ortolana

Visited: Spring 2019 Ordered: -Pistacchiosa -Ortolana -Fritto Misto Piccolo Thoughts: The pizzas were delicious and this was definitely the best meal we had in Naples. The pistacchiosa was a white based meat pizza with provola, mortadella and pictacchio. The ortolana was a red based vegetarian pizza with mozzarella, mushrooms, eggplants, spinach and peppers. The fritto misto piccolo was an assortment of deep fried balls.

Fantastic. Delicioso. And Bill Clinton ate here. Searching all of Napoli for the best pizza lead us to Di Matteo. Outside, the restaurant looks like a fast food joint for food to go only. Do not be alarmed, the restaurant is upstairs and one must walk through the bottom floor kitchen to reach it. Once you're out of breath on the third floor, start your order with a Nastro Azzurre to cool you down. It's light Italian beer. Then peruse your menu for your pizza choices. My companion and I chose two pizzas and shared. One was a Tarantina with anchovies and olives, whereas the other had buffala mozzarella and tomato. I recommend choosing the buffala mozzarella as it is different from that around the world. It is made from the milk of water buffalo in the south of Italy. Believe me, you can tast the difference. The waiters will be quick to take your order, then sit and enjoy your beer or wine while you wait. Both pizzas were piping hot and light to eat. I can definitely recommend Di Matteo's for a fine dining experience. ¡Provecho!
