Hairdresser would not listen to a word I said. I would tell her not to do something to my hair and she'd agree just to do it anyways. I was ridiculed the entire time for my hair texture as if wavy hair is too difficult to work with and the woman continuously tried to force me to straighten it. I was looking forward to getting my hair done all week just for it to be nothing like what I asked for and a complete waste of money. Do better. read more

Heads up: This review is primarily for May, a hairstylist at Diablo Salon. Cut, color, treatments -- May can do it all. I've been seeing May for over six years now, the kind of commitment that tells you that this woman knows exactly what she's doing. May is a perfectionist. When she does something -- whether it's giving me low-lights for the illusion of volume, or blow-drying and straightening my hair -- she does it with great care and attention. I can always be sure that what I ask for is EXACTLY what I'll get. The best part about May is that she will NEVER give you any sort of service she doesn't think is necessary. So you can never expect that she'll try to push a deep conditioner if it's not actually needed. Her consultations are brilliant. In discussing your hair wants, she will absolutely take into account the bigger picture, a trait many stylists lack. For example, if you ask her for a new color style, she'll weigh in on whether or not she thinks it will complement your face, your current style, etc. She's absolutely amazing and I look forward to many, many more years of working with May! read more

This place is terrific! Nicely decorated salon with a comfy waiting area. Each station has a personal wooden locker to hang your coat, purse, and whatever else you bring with you. Moved to Walnut Creek recently. Went to this salon for a haircut, the choice was pure instinct. Kim was very professional and did a great job. No one every explained my haircut to me, she did, which was kind of helpful. Next time I go else where I know what to ask for. But I don't think I'm going anywhere else as long as Kim is there. EDIT: they take walk-ins too, but it doesn't hurt to call ahead. This place is great for guys' haircuts too. I've been coming here to see Winny for about 5 months now and my roommate comes here too. I always get a great haircut, and you can't beat the $15 price. I'm picky about my hair. I keep it pretty short and it can be hard to find someone who can blend the sides well and keep them straight. Usually it's hard to find this kind of quality at this price. The place is a little hidden (it's behind the Trader Joe's), but that's probably also why I almost never have to wait for a haircut. read more

All the good reviews are from 2016 and before. No wonder... My sister-in-law and my mom came here today and had a horrible experience with Kim. Here's what happened: My sister in law came in for a haircut, little did she know that a haircut meant ONLY a haircut, so be prepared to walk outside with poorly dried hair and a wet neck/shoulders. This was my sister-in-law's experience: - She asked for layers all around and got NO layers whatsoever. - Kim only cut the ends and the length of hair was not what my sis-in-law wanted. Kim did not cut enough hair. - My sis-in-law's hair looked worse than what she came to the salon with. - Kim kept TAKING PHOTOS of my sis-in-law's hair every so often and asking, "Looks good? Looks good?" That's so annoying and such a distraction from her job. There's a mirror in front of the client, don't take photos. Is the salon going to post these photos on Instagram/Yelp later? I don't know, but really annoying and a disturbance if you ask me. - Kim did not attempt to properly dry the hair with a blowdryer. She just sat her at those automatic hairdryers. The hair was so wet that my sis-in-law's neck was getting super wet. After my mom requested that she properly dry my sis-in-law's hair, Kim said she can't because she has another client. It wasn't until my mom told Kim that my sis-in-law is pregnant and shouldn't leave the salon with poorly dried hair and a wet neck that Kim asked another stylist to dry the hair properly. - The damage was already done by that automatic hairdryer and her hair looked bad. So unprofessional. I run a business myself and this is very poor customer service. Even if you do offer ONLY a haircut and no proper blowdrying, at least make it clear to the customer. Plus, let's not forget that she did not even cut the hair properly; she didn't add any layers. read more

I've been coming here for several years now. I first met the crew when they worked at a "chain" hair cut place and followed them here when one of them opened her own business. I'm a guy so I generally get a basic hair cut, shampoo and maybe some gel. For me that's a full service hair cut. The price is reasonable / comparable, the place is clean and well kept. The staff are awesome. You can probably check out their services on the website but they cut men and women's hair here and seem to offer services that any salon would. Sometimes I set an appointment and other times I wander in with a cup if coffee and wait for a hair cut. Either way, I walk out with a great hair cut. read more

Wow Wow Wow. I absolutely love my hair now. I Read the good reviews, and called to make an appointment. The girls asked me to come in the same day. So i did and it was wonderful. I got an all over color to cover up horribly over grown hi-lites and I haircut I had gotten at another salon. The girls did a fabulous job, what a great team. I went there for my first time on Tuesday as the women who usually cut my hair worked at Supercuts in the Encina shopping center. I got a hair cut along with highlights for only $75 which I was told by friends was an great deal. I love my new look as do my friends. I will definitely go back. There's plenty of parking spots. The decor inside is very well done and there's a flat screen tv that you can watch while either waiting or getting your hair done. read more

I was hesitant to go to a new stylist, but went based off other yelp reviews, and this place being local, and inexpensive. I saw Winnie, she has about 10 years professional experience, and owns this salon for a couple years now. She did a great job on cleaning up my pixie haircut, and did just as I asked. I liked that she assessed my hair, the direction of my hair growth, my texture, etc, before picking up the scissors. I have recommended my boyfriend and girlfriends to check her out. The salon is very clean, and modern, tucked away behind the Round Table PIzza area, in the Oak Grove Trader Joe's shopping center, easy to miss. Worst hair cut in years. Rhonda appeared to listen attentively and then pretty much ignored everything I said. I asked her to leave the back long but she chopped everything to shoulder length. A friend noticed a chunk of hair that appeared not to be clipped to the same length as the rest of my bangs. She was going to cut it until she looked closely and realized it was a chunk that should have been left long that Rhonda had cut to a medium length, realized her error, and just left without saying anything. I first came here on a recommendation from a friend. I have only positive things to say about it. The space is well-kept and clean. The two ladies who run the place are kind and personable. I've dropped in twice for a haircut so far with no appointment and had no wait either time. A dude's haircut costs $15. I'd say that's on the cheaper side of reasonable. The only point of caution is that Diablo Salon is a little difficult to locate. It's tucked into the back corner of the shopping center. Go to Round Table Pizza, turn your back to Treat Blvd, and head forward on the right side of Round Table. Diablo Salon will be in the last row of businesses on your right. read more

Winnie is great! I moved to Walnut Creek 7 months ago from San Diego. Essentially I had to find a new stylist. I am loyal to my SD stylist but going to SD every two weeks two get my hair trimmed my husband was not fond of, lol! My husband found this salon on Yelp of course!
