I first reached out to Diablo in 2020. I was solar-curious, but I determined at the time that it wasn't what I needed. This year (2024) I decided that my electric bill was just too much, I was going to get solar eventually, and the longer I put it off the more it would cost me overall. I liked that they didn't harass me. Once some folks get your number they just wont stop calling. Diablo didn't bug me back in 2020 and they were not really trying the hard sale this time either. I called them, had a brief discussion about what I was looking for, and scheduled a visit. I didn't know much about solar installations, so I spoke with a friend who was familiar with these things. He told me what to look out for in terms of equipment. After I got the quote, the folks at Diablo were very helpful answering questions along these lines. Again just providing information, not trying to sell me. Diablo handled everything and scheduled a time to do the install. Overall it took about 3 days. Two days for most of the hardware and then a day about a week later to deal with the mess in my breaker box from some previous work done by another company. Then they handled everything with PG&E and about a month later everything was cleared on PG&Es end. This delay was due to PG&E processing paperwork. Overall it's working well. Update: The services senior leader called to discuss the issues. He was very polite and professional. He also shared the depth of the challenges with the company that manufactured our panels. We agreed to fix the system by excluding the impacted panels. I offered to pay the one hour of labor that would he have been expected (as I simply wanted to system to work and felt this was fair). They arrived promptly and made the fix. Since then the system has been working fine. I suggested some changes to their customer service model as all of these issues could have been easily avoided. I still highly recommend Diablo Solar! I found a roof leak on Christmas Eve, of course. Called Mike the VP of Diablo the day after Christmas and had a crew of 5 here 30 minutes ahead of scheduled arrival this morning! Anton went into the attic and found the leak within 15 minutes where I said it would be. Thankfully it was an easy fix they missed a joist installing the panel mounts and didn't use enough sealer to make it water tight originally. They fixed it within an hour. We were able to have the panels removed in the slower wintertime and reinstalled during late spring. AVOID Diablo Solar! A once-good company was sold to its employees years ago and now is resorting to scam tactics to get me, a customer since 1992, to pay for repairs not even performed, on a date that was before I even I had the problem! After many letters and efforts to stop the fake billings, I went to report this on Better Business Bureau and I saw another review from 2023 with the same issue I've been having. Basically I tried to schedule a repair and was given a date and time. But then I got a voicemail telling me it would have to be the following day in a 4 hour window from 8-12 noon. I left a voicemail and sent an email telling them I had to have the worker here in time for him to work with me and be gone well before I had an event at my house. I waited 6 hours for the worker who arrived more than 2 hours after the last minute was able to meet with him and show him the issues. I told him I would have to reschedule and he left without doing any work--didn't even take a ladder off his truck! A few days later I managed to figure out what was causing the problem and fixed it myself. A few weeks later the bills started arriving. Emails had no effect so I wrote the General Manager. This Manager told me the "misunderstanding" was the service date was actually several weeks BEFORE I even had the problem and called them! I told him this in an email and asked him to stop the billings. He didn't and nothing has been changed about the bills except escalating interest and late charges. I wonder if they are just trying to lay the groundwork for a mechanic's lien against the title of my house or to be able to sell my "debt" to a collection agency. There can be no honest excuse for this behavior and I will not pay this bill even if I have to take them to small claims court to stop the harassment and accumulating charges. Do yourself a favor: avoid using Diablo Solar. They are no longer a good or honest company. read more

I recently returned to Diablo Solar for swimming pool water solar panels. Darnell from Diablo came out and found I needed a couple of new panels which I anticipated as my system is aging. I had a swimming pool service replace other panels to my dissatisfaction which involved call backs for leaks. Darnell set up the replacement. This business has the experts to fix the problem and will also maintain a record of the warranty on the panels if any panel they install fails. I have a variable speed pool pump and Darnell made recommendations on pump speeds that will work with the panels while factoring in if you have a single or two story home. Frankly, now days it's rare to find experienced experts with deep knowledge in their particular industry. I highly recommend Diablo Solar. read more

This is one of those "if only I could give zero stars" reviews... I bought a house with pool solar in 2018. For the first couple years, we used Diablo for their fall shutdown and spring turn-up service. Occasionally, we'd use them for repairs on the solar. I had no problems. One day, about three years ago, we needed some roof repairs done and I called Diablo to coordinate the solar. They didn't return the call. I called back. They didn't return the call. I called numerous times, and they just...refused to call back. I paid my bills on time, I never was harsh with their installers, I never complained. They just ghosted me for no reason at all. I stopped getting the emails for the fall/spring service. I ended up using a gutter guy to do the fall/spring service since you pretty much just need to go up and unscrew one pipe. I ended up having the solar removed when I had my roof replaced. I knew they wouldn't call me back to re-install it, so I had another idea. I was interested in PV solar. Maybe if there's $30-$40k in it for Diablo, they'll call me back. Sure enough, a guy named Mike called me. He sent another guy called Mike out. I asked Mike #2 what to do with the rails for the solar and he said he would get back to me. It took several calls and emails from him to even get a response. Notice a pattern? Anyhow, I got him all my data from PG&E, as requested, and guess what... Mike never called me back with a quote. Not a good sign when $30k doesn't even earn you a call back. Here's the deal. I would not use them at this point because I know that, even if they miraculously deliver me a quote out of the blue, I cannot trust them to be reliable AT ALL. If I install PV, or pool solar, with these guys, the pattern would indicate, if I ever have a problem or need a repair, they just won't come out. I'm not trusting them with my business. It's your call if you want to, but I won't. My pool company pointed me to one of Diablo's competitors. They were incredibly responsive, sent a guy out the next day, and seemed to genuinely want my business. They told me they're picking up a lot of Diablo customers these days for exactly the problem I described. For my part, I'm glad to be done with them, and glad to send my $30k for PV solar to someone who wants it. read more

Diablo Solar did such a great job replacing one of our rooftop solar panels. We were out of the country and had to deal with a leaking panel before we left and then no solar pool heat until the panel was replaced. The technician at Diablo Solar did the work in time for family to enjoy our pool while we were away. He did the repair, checked the system, and turned the system on to start the solar heating. In particular, Paige communicated rapidly and often with us about the progress of the work and kept us informed throughout. She was exceptionally helpful in reassuring us while we were away. We are in the midst of addressing the poor quality FAFCO panels Diablo used. Hoping to update to 5 stars when all is said and done. Bryan reached out directly and acknowledges that as the installer and vendor, he bares some responsibility for the failure of his previous preferred panel manufacturer, FAFCO. In that spirit, he offered all affected customers for which he installed FAFCO panels a 50% discount on replacements to the new manufacturer. While this means we as customers run into unexpected expense during the now voided manufacturer warranty period, he has no other recourse and expecting him to swap out for free would mean going out of business for him - which isn't fair. The fault light was fixed but another communication LED was blank. Making about 8+ calls to see if this was normal I've never received a call back to answer my question as of this date. The crew showed up late, tracked mud everywhere, and left wires hanging out. And the panels? They look like they were installed by a toddler with a glue stick. Had to have our roof replaced, so solar panel had to be removed (roofers don't do this). Diablo Solar gave us reasonable estimate and was willing to help us coordinate timing with the roof replacement. They took all the panels and associated hardware off the roof, labeling/numbering the pieces to facilitate re-installation. We keep them informed as the roof work progressed and came back shortly after it was completed. They leaned the panels against our fence so my husband could power wash them while they re-installed the hardware/frames. It was a big job to put it all back, but Josh and Dominica worked diligently and got us back up and running in 1-1/2 days. Would definitely call Diablo Solar again. read more

We have been customers of Diablo Solar for at least 17 years. They installed our original pool heating solar system and we have had them for startup and shutdown each year. They have been very fair and accommodating to all of our needs. For example, we had our system taken down and re-installed when re-roofed. I would like to give some constructive feedback for Diablo Solar. Last year, I worked with Diablo to fix leaking panels of my pool heating system, and overall experience had been unfortunately quite negative and painful. I first contacted them in month of May for the issue of panel leaks. They scheduled an appointment for service and repair in June. In the June appointment, the rep said panels would need to be replaced, and they asked me to schedule another appointment. After several voicemails and email follow-ups, they offered 2nd appointment for repairs in July. Now, in the July appointment, the rep told me that they came with wrong sized panels and will not be able to install new panels. They removed the broken panels for no charge, I appreciate that, although again asked me to call the office to schedule a new appointment. So again, after several voice mails amd email follow-up, they offered 3rd appointment in October. I was trying to get my panels fixed since mid-May and have good pool time with my family in summer. Although Diablo could not get it fixed in span of 5-6 months till October. The most difficult part is scheduling. When I call the office, it always goes to voice mail, and you need to follow up with several voice mails and emails before you get someone's attention to look at your case. It takes on average 2 weeks for someone to return to you and then another month and a half to schedule the actual job, on average 2 months in total. Technicians who come to work on jobs are nice, and they respond to my queries patiently. Although they don't do scheduling on the spot, as I mentioned, calling the office to schedule an appointment is superslow, and the actual appointment wait is also very long. In East Bay, there is literally no other company that would do service or repair work on the pool system installed by Diablo. Therefore, I would truly appreciate it if Diablo could start taking service and repair projects with more empathy for customers and improve overall turnaround time for the completion of the project. I would give Diablo Solar zero stars if I could. The people who work at Diablo Solar are all very nice, but the systems they install have appalling quality. I don't think I have words to describe how terrible overall system quality truly is. Our system is less than 3 years old. There were certain assumptions when we installed the system for it to break even. It is now clear we will never reach them due to months of lost production (system down). We were told that Diablo Solar would monitor our system and alert us if system was not functioning as intended -- well, that is not true. When the system is down, not producing as intended, Diablo Solar does not notify us. We have to monitor this complex, poor quality system ourselves, which results in lost production. In the first year of our system, one of the inverters stopped working. Unlike advertised to us, Diablo Solar did NOT notify us. We eventual noticed production was down massively for several months (via the app), contacted Diablo Solar to fix it. It took another several months for them to fix it, and they even tried to charge us a few thousand dollars for this, but eventually didn't because the broken part was still under warranty. Now during year 3 of the system, it's not working again. It's going to take months for Diablo Solar to fix it and thousands of $$. Over 3 years of operation our system was down at least 3 times. And that's during the first 3 years when all the components are still new. What will happen in the year 5 or 7? At this rate, we will never break even on this system. We were sold a load of bs. We have been had by Diablo Solar. Our system is terrible value. It's almost as if the whole system was engineered to generate service fees, that are exuberant! The problems we encountered took hours to fix, each costing several thousand dollars. If you are looking for a solar system for your home, please look ANYWHERE else but here. read more

We signed a contract with Diablo Solar and paid a $1,000. deposit, as requested. Diablo Solar then notified us that they were unable to fulfill completion by the contacted dates. We notified them that since they were unable to maintain the contract as specified, we were requesting our $1,000 deposit be returned to us. It has been well over 2 months now and they have not returned our deposit. They do not maintain their word and definitely their contract. They are not to be trusted. He said he would provide an estimate in a few days but a week later still nothing and I called Diablo Solar 7 times in 5 days only to be told the technician hadn't given the office an estimate, that they would contact the technician, and transferred me to various people's voice mail. The clerks I spoke to on the phone were drab and lacked any interest in our request for service and less than accommodating. I still have not received ANY call back from anyone. This review is for their solar pool heater install and services. I have been using Diablo for years. They do my annual startup/shut down for my pool. When I installed rooftop solar power, I used them to move my solar pool heater panels. They also do the annual wash of my power panels. I worked with Lance for the reinstall. He was excellent. Very knowledgeable and responsive. A true pro. The service crews are friendly, polite, know what they're doing. Very good at letting me know if there are any maintenance items when they come do the annual visits. If there is anything that comes up Katie in scheduling is great about getting back to me and getting me scheduled. Overall, beyond happy with every aspect of Diablo. It's nice to know they have me covered! Takes a lot of worry out of maintaining my system. And did I mention everyone I've dealt with are exceptionally nice and easy to work with? read more

We have Diablo Solar Services with our pool. Everything went well with set up, but now, a part stopped working and we needed it fixed (under warranty). We've gotten dodged for 8 months now. We've emailed, left messages, called again and again to get the run around. Great for set up, super poor and poor accountability when it's on them to provide follow up services under warranty when you've already paid your dues and they can't get more money out of you. Sad. I did eventually receive a response suggesting I try eBay or a (apparently defunct) solar distributor in Arizona and ended up paying the $238 bill just so that the phone calls, texts, and emails would stop. It was not a satisfactory experience and I can not recommend Diablo Solar. read more
