My wife and I purchased a new 19 panel solar system and Tesla Powerwall in mid 2025. The install was completed in October 2025. The crew and all of the people at United solar Electric were very responsive and professional. I would, and will do business with them again, (adding an additional battery). PG&E was a problem. PG&E was very slow with providing PTO (permission To Operate). We did not receive PTO until end of May 2026, over 6 months from the date when system was operational. PG&E will need to upgrade transformer (December ???) before we can send greater that 2000 watts back to the system. Right now, we have conditional permission to operate, limiting output to PG&E to 2.2 KW. My wife and I had a very concerning experience with United Solar Electric regarding their business ethics and refund policies. We were interested in solar for our 1940s home and provided a deposit in good faith. However, after further inspection of our roof and the overall project viability, we decided not to move forward. When we requested our deposit back--before any equipment was ordered or installation began--the company initially refused, claiming it was 'passed' the point of a refund. It was a high-pressure situation where we felt they were trying to lock us into a contract we weren't comfortable with. While we did eventually receive our deposit back after pushing the issue, the initial refusal to return funds for work not performed was a major red flag. Homeowners should be very careful with the fine print here. If you are looking for a company that values transparency and customer comfort over just 'closing the deal,' I would suggest looking elsewhere. We're glad we didn't get stuck with them and are instead putting that money into improvements that actually fit our home. read more

We installed rooftop solar panels about six months ago, and so far, everything has been going well. The installation team did a great job, and despite a few issues during the process, we are overall very happy with the quality of the system and the installation. The system is generating an excellent amount of electricity, and they used the best panels available on the market at the best price. Our only complaint is that they did not inform us in the original contract that the ducts would be routed around the house instead of in the attic. As a result, we had to pay an additional amount for this change and sign a new contract. I didn't see any visible damage to my house. The installation team installed the equipment as I had instructed. For example: (1) they kept the electric conduits away from the skylights to avoid future skylight maintenance that could damage the solar system if they were too close, (2) they installed the batteries on two wall studs instead of one for stronger support, and (3) they made the conduits more aesthetically pleasing by using more straight lines with minimal steps. Areas of Improvement: The battery outer shell cases had multiple scratches along the edges and on the front side. They were probably laid on the concrete ground and dragged or kicked while the main batteries were installed or during inspection. While the product is outside the house and I won't notice the cosmetic blemishes, I still wish that they could look impeccable, especially considering the cost. read more

We had a few twists and turns on our project. We live in the hills so daylight was limited by trees. Our plan to install on our hillside was derailed by a landslide but this was compensated for by the loss of two big trees. And finally, our roof needed to be replaced. I have mixed review. I have signed a contract for x Kw , however the system is setup for x-1.5 KW , the way the system is designed is based on amount of solar the system can generate based on availability of sun and not by the actual capacity of the system. I am not sure if TESLA does that same, if i order for 5KW the system delivered should include panels which will generate 5Kw in total at peak. In my case i never saw total capacity generating at anytime of the day. Not sure if the total solar industry is the same or i missed some thing on this. I did not have any problem for execution of the project with this team. It is done pretty smooth. They sell Enphase battery, i can tell from my experience. We had a more complicated install versus just a simple solar. We also had backup batteries, an EV charger and a subpanel upgrade. Most of the products are made by SolarEdge. United Solar did it all for us and the end result is amazing. The system has not given any problems and the install is very clean and neat. I got few other quotes and United Solar was able to match the best quote I got with top of the line products. I had a really good experience working with them, following are the highlights. From start to finish this company delivered. I started my search and shopped around with over 12+ solar companies. I received over 5 proposals, My hesitation with this company was the lack of reviews versus some of the others. I took a gamble because their price was significantly cheaper than the other companies I spoke to. My salesperson was Ben and he was on point with all the communication, making sure I chose the right inverter, panels, and not hiding anything. He was very upfront and professional. I threw all the questions and concerns at him and he answered them all. The entire process takes a couple of months. About a month from when you sign the contract to having solar on your roof. There is another month until PG&E starts allowing you to add credits to your bills. The installers were fine, a little sloppy at times - dropped rails on a plastic planter which broke, left behind wire shrouds but they were friendly and speedy. It took one day to install my entire 10-panel system and the inspector from the county approved it the same day. As for the office staff - Mariya & Kayla I was super impressed by how often and thorough their communication was with me throughout the process. I must have received close to a dozen e-mails with updates on PG&E and installation. My parents may be getting solar soon and I told them to go with the same company if they do. What now? I am producing around 20 KWH per day-ish... it has only been about a month so no significant savings yet. Unfortunately, proposals from solar companies are delivered more like a presentation, and they do not itemize "all" that is included in the price. For example, they may say how many panels there are, how many optimizers or microinverters there are, or batteries if you discussed that (equipment). They do not provide info on what is included from an installation standpoint or mention things that may be needed once the site is evaluated. They'll know you need a sub-panel or a new main service panel, but they'll make you sign a contract and pay a deposit which is typically non-refundable and then tell you after the fact all the additional items that are needed. I mentioned this to them on a follow-up call, and I made sure to say, that I am not saying this is something that your company specifically does deliberately but it feels like people are lured in with a pretty good price, and are not given all the details, they sign a contract, engineers come out and bam... sorry Mr. Jones because of all the things you need your system will now cost you $40k instead of $30k. He told me that I must understand that this is all construction-related and things happen when you view a site. I said well, then why not come on-site to view the home first instead of making people sign contracts and take a deposit that locks them in? I was then educated on the cost of rolling trucks blah blah blah. For some context, I have been involved in custom home integration for over 30 years, and between conducting them myself and managing people, have been a part of/overseen thousands of free consultations that "cost me/my company money". Some resulted in 0 sales, some resulted in a few hundred dollars, and some resulted in $150,000 custom theaters. I guess the point is, you need to know your audience before you make comments like that. It is per post basically, so the cost changes with different size systems. I have attached the updated proposals to reflect the cost for both the 20 panel and the 18 panel system. I apologize as I know this is exactly what you were talking about when we spoke yesterday. Please understand that this is construction and these things happen. Glad we caught it now before we wasted any more time. I also did talk to my boss about the main panel and unfortunately it does look like it is maxed out and will need to be upgraded. We would replace it with a like for like main panel. It would still be a 125amp main, but it is a solar ready main and will have a larger bus bar to support the amperage we need to feed it to support this size solar system. No relocation is needed because it is the same size panel. If we gave you a 200amp main panel, it would need to be relocated and would cost even more. I wish I could know UnitedSolar earlier... I've installed my 1st solar system with another company first, at the end of last year. But I was a little unhappy with their customer service and reached out to United Solar from one of my neighbors. Ben Vanni, who's the administrator, provided me timely response and detailed answers all the time, even if I'm not their customer yet. When I was trying to install a 2nd system with them, they did run investigation and shade report and recommend not to rush for another system, but monitor the future usage and production first. So they are in this solar business not to make money, but more educate and help people. We originally went with West Coast Solar back in 2015, but had since added an electric vehicle and were getting hit with decent sized PG&E overages every year. Our experience with WCS was almost entirely positive. However, we were referred by a friend there and they had to contact the company multiple times to get their referral bonus. We had the same experience when we referred two different friends to them. I'm always bothered when companies are quick to respond to incoming money, but less so with outgoing. We decided to upgrade our array, but had to also get a larger inverter. We went back to the WCS, but were quoted a really high price to add to the system. We decided to call around and found United Solar Electric. They not only came in much cheaper, but they had some awesome ideas about inverters with car chargers and non-battery backup plans for blackouts. The installation was quick and thorough, and each representative from sales to administrative to installers have been courteous and thorough. Additionally, I've been contacted by them at least three times since the install to verify that I am still pleased with the system. I interviewed at least 15 different bay area companies and I am glad that i chose United Solar to do my solar project. I found Ben to be honest and professional.
