The Candy Emporium seems to have more commercial and old-fashioned candies than the other place. They also seem to get nasty with the licorice here, and in particular, black licorice. OK! I won't let you know my opinion about black licorice, those murdered-out pieces of vile rubber, because I don't want to yuck your yum. But if you are a black licorice fan, this is your place. They have bulk chocolates by the pound here (minimum 1/8 pound), plus lots of packaged candies -- everything from Starbursts to Laffy Taffy to Razzles and Necco Wafers. The price points range from 10 cents to much higher, so you can bring a kid here with some pocket change, and they'll be able to get a little treat.

The hard ice cream is all homemade. I've mostly gotten the cyclones and sundaes with soft serve, but the scoops in my banana split were good. In addition to regular soft serve, they also have Dream DeLite, which is a low glycemic index (diabetic-friendly) yogurt/whey-based soft serve. I like to get this since even the small sizes are pretty big, and the DD feels like a lighter option. By itself, I find the flavor is slightly off from regular vanilla ice cream, but the texture is good, and when it's mixed with different flavors and toppings, I can't really tell the difference. Almost all of the specialty sundaes and cyclones I've tried have hit the spot. My favourites have been the classic banana split sundae, and the mud pie and German chocolate cyclones. The only thing I did not like was the mint Oreo cyclone - the mint flavor was too concentrated and kind of tasted like mint toothpaste (I usually like mint ice cream). The cyclones sometimes aren't blended all the way to the bottom of the cup, but this isn't a big deal. The employees seem to be high school/university students. They're usually friendly and have their operations organized. There are a few other Jiffy Treets locally that I haven't visited, but based on what the other ones put online, this one doesn't have some of the seasonal ice cream flavors or vegan soft serve that some of the other locations advertise.

Candy Dish has chocolates galore: old-fashioned chocolates like mint meltaways and haystacks, peanut butter cups (giant ones the size of an adult hand and regular-sized ones), Buckeyes, bonbons, chocolate-covered caramels, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-covered almonds ... you get the idea. Lots of chocolate! I had a hard time choosing what to get, but I ended up getting a milk chocolate salted caramel and a turtle, which is a chocolate-covered caramel with pecans in it. The taffy section of Candy Dish is off the candy chain. If I had my children with me, they would have headed straight for the taffy bins, because they love that sticky-sweet confection. The Candy Dish carries a wide assortment of chocolates, fudge and, well, candy! I wanted to try a few different options, and the attendant behind the counter was very helpful. I came away with a little something for everyone: chocolate fudge, caramel turtles and a giant chocolate-dipped marshmallow for my youngest. I also picked up a yummy little square of dark chocolate sea salt caramel to share with a friend. The Candy Dish is a cute little spot in the heart of Nashville.
