Bad experience getting an estimate from this business. Too expensive, outrageously asking $15/sqft for a simple maple floor refinish. Rude at the end of the interaction. Din't feel like someone I'd trust my kitchen with. We're adding to our review as Diaz has responded to our comments. At the end of our interview we asked you if you could email us your "quote". We do that with everyone who comes to our house with the purpose of doing a quote. You had barely scribbled some numbers on your notebook and didn't even offer us a copy. But instead, when asked if you could email us a quote, you rudely responded that the quote was what you had said and you were not going to send us any emails (!). This is the worst customer service we can think of. Red flag #1. Furthermore, let's be earnest: you weren't completely honest with us when you said that our floor was wavy and it would take extra hours to work on it. We know our floor, Diaz, we walk barefoot everyday on it, and we know it's not wavy. Red flag #2. On the phone, your words were "it will cost $1500, but more probably around $1800". Once you came to our house your quote turned out to be $2500, plus $1000 for the baseshoes(!) That's like $3500 for 230sqft worth of hardwood floor and, katchink, definitely red flag #3. We refinished our hardwood floor with someone else, thankfully with professionals who know how to treat well and respect their customers. The floor is EXCELLENT now. read more

I did my shopping before finally selecting Diaz Floors. They gave us recommendations for colors, fixed damaged areas, moved out the fridge, put 4 coats on, and even painted my existing baseboards. The job was not an easy one and we ran into a couple of issues along the way but Miguel and the team did everything they could to make our floors look great. The finished product turned out amazing. Our learnings: in addition to understanding how long the job would take, understand what you will and won't have access to during that time, which days will be very loud for sanding, and that the smell of varnish is really bad so anyone with a sensitivity should plan to not be home. read more

Miguel is lovely to work with, and his team finished my floors earlier than planned, and they look beautiful. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the wrong finish being put on the floors. I had Miguel and his team remove carpets in the bedrooms and install hardwood floors to match the rest of the house. Miguel promised he could get the floors to look very similar in color (by adding a tint), and also match the extra glossy finish. He did neither of these, started putting furniture away and finishing the job. I had to stop them and call attention to the mismatched color and finish. I do believe it was partially a misunderstanding on their part, so they offered to put another coat of finish on, but it would require 1-2 more days. I declined because I did not want to extend the project (I had been sleeping in the house with all the fumes and I was very much looking forward to that ending). So I settled for the color and finish they did. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful floors! Just not the color and finish I asked for. read more

Incredible floor installation and refinishing company. They do not miss any detail. Their team moved everything out of our house and covered it. They went right to work on the floors and created 10 different stain and top coat options on the sanded floor in taped off boxes for us to choose from...what an awesome asset for a homeowner. The first thing they did was to move the oven and refer out, completely finish that area and then move both of them back. They were here for an entire week, sanding, sealing, sanding and then applying the final 2 top coat layers. When it came time to move everything back into the house they put felt pads on the bottom of everything so the floor would not get scratched. Their crew was with us the entire time and did everything...extremely skilled. In our opinion, Miguel did not do a good refinishing job & Miguel was not professional, like other reviewers have stated. We used Miguel to REFINISH oak hardwood floors in 2012. We had many neighbors came over who stated that the job looked bad & that poly was all over/ not cleaned off many non-floor areas. Neighbors also stated that the floors under the range & refrigerator were obviously not done. Teens/ Young Adults about 18-21 yrs old came to do the refinishing job. Poly was on the baseboards, cabinet toe kicks, brand new white cabinet doors and some of the room & closet doors. Miguel texted, stating when his crew would be done & that the key would be returned the last day of work to our neighbor or his son. Miguel didn't return the key on the agreed day. After the job was complete, Miguel invited a neighbor's contractor into our home without our knowledge or permission. We called Miguel about all the mess & undone flooring under the appliances. As other reviewers have stated, Miguel was cussing up a storm. Miguel claimed he was not responsible for moving anything & he was not responsible for cleaning any of the mess they left including the poly on baseboards, etc. When we asked Miguel if he invited anyone inside our house to view his crew's work, Miguel admitted that he did invite the neighbor's contractor inside our house after the job was finished, since that contractor was a colleague of Miguel's. My nanny & neighbors (5people), heard the entire call on speaker phone to act as witnesses. We ended up filing a police report/ incident in 2012 alleging various things. In the end, we got new locks for the house & we settled with Miguel by not paying Miguel the remaining balance. This review is not false. I would have to call SJ police to see if they have the report still available. My neighbors bore witness and were contacted by SJ Police department. If Yelp removes this review then I will see about getting the SJ Police Report. read more

Diaz did a fantastic job on my hardwood floors. Our house is 90 years old and I know for sure that the floors had not been refinished in at least 45 years (if ever). My first thought was to just cover with engineered wood but Diaz assured me that the original wood could be refurbished. This company was not the cheapest or the most expensive; in fact, almost right in the middle of other companies. The floors were stained which helped blend in previous old damage. They applied three different stain samples on the floor for me to chose from and talked me through the pros and con of each stain. Diaz also finished off with 4 coats of Bona oil base semi-gloss polyurethane. Diaz were easy to work with because they also had to coordinate with my painter - good team work. read more

Diaz Floors came to my house to see my floors. I was impressed by their promptness and knowledge about hardwood floors. They explained every detail of the process and I was impressed! I was told I would receive a bid by the end of the week. When I didn't receive the bid, I followed up the following week with a text to ask when I would get the bid. I received no response. Three weeks after their initial visit to my home, I was called and I told that there had been a mixup and my paperwork had been misplaced. Within a few hours the bid was emailed to me. They followed up with a telephone call asking that I respond to them ASAP. Needless to say, I was disappointed and hesitant that there may be further miscommunication and I didn't want to take any chances. I must say, they were so nice and polite when they came to my house. However, as a result of the delay I chose another company that had a higher bid but were immediately responsive to my needs. read more

Two weeks later, my husband called him because we had not received the proposal. Miguel said he was busy but would get to it though committed to a project date start. No proposal was ever sent. Today, Miguel called stating he was ready to begin the the project tomorrow (mind you, he never sent the written proposal). My husband told him that nothing was scheduled as he had never bothered to send the proposal. Miguel began cussing. Using the F word plenty of times and further stating "I could sue you for this!" In between his F bombs. Miguel lacks professionalism and business ethics!
