We have used Rick Diaz's company on a few projects over the years. For small projects such as installing gutters on a garage, patching drywall, painting a room, etc I would recommend them. We hired him for a larger project last fall though and it was mishandled every step of the way. We hired them to tear down an existing deck, build a mudroom, and build exterior stairs leading up to the mudroom. He wanted the project so he quoted us competitively, which I appreciated until the project started. It felt he cut corners in order to make up for his underbidding. He told us multiple times that he underbid the project. We were told the project would take 3 weeks (we were told this by a few contractors when we were quoting the project). All in all, it took him from Nov to March - 5 months!! We had given him architectural drawings that noted what supplies were needed to build the exterior steps and landing. He bought the wrong supplies but continued with construction anyway. The Village of Brookfield failed the inspection because he used the wrong thickness of wood so he had to tear everything down and rebuild it. For the exterior stairs and landing, they used nails instead of screws and the nails rusted over the winter. They reused some supplies from our deck they tore down, so the pieces of wood had old nail holes in them. Again, he cut corners everywhere he could to save himself some money which just left us with poor looking construction. We ended up spending HOURS fighting with Rick to use new materials. He eventually agreed but we had to pay for the materials. In the end the room didn't have the proper electrical needs wired into it, so we're unable to install a floorboard space heater (which his team recommended for heating the space). We are temporarily using a space heater (which is not safe with my little ones crawling around). We will need to pay another electrician to rewire the room and install the floorboard space heater. Then we will also need to pay another contractor to patch those walls and paint them again. From soup to nuts, this was a terrible experience. For anything larger than a small project, I would strongly recommend you find a different contractor. read more

When you live like we do in a house that is approaching 100 years old, you realize that you are likely to run into some unexpected "surprises" when undertaking renovation projects. With some of the contractors on our previous projects, these "surprises" resulted in significant delays and/or increased cost. As a result, we searched more diligently for a contractor for our bathroom renovation. Based on the extremely favorable recommendations we received regarding Diaz Renovations, we selected them as our contractor and could not be happier with our choice. When we did run into "surprises", Rick Diaz quickly gave us well thought out options to choose from before proceeding. These options did NOT result in any significant delays or cost increases. More importantly, they did not detract in any way from the wonderful quality of the finished project. Rick also gave us many suggestions that greatly improved our original ideas for the project. We were pleased by how hard and enthusiastically everyone on his crew worked, and also by the quality of their work and that of the sub-contractors he used. Somehow, they also managed to keep our house clean while they worked. Our finished bathroom far exceeds our most optimistic hopes. Rick Diaz of Diaz Renovations is an absolute pleasure to work with from the first meeting after which he sent me a quote in a timely manner, to the follow-up on the completed job. Rick and his team installed a Pergo floor and 2 split flights of stairs in my home. I originally had carpet and hardwood in the space; he suggested I keep the hardwood and have it refinished to compliment the new flooring. He outsourced the refinishing and they too did a great job. I purchased the flooring and he supplied the rest of the materials. We had an issue with some of the stairs needing repair before they were covered and he addressed this with me immediately. For example, we requested a custom backsplash with glass and granite tile.
